Bull Inn in Braintree

I am visually impaired and a friend and I visited the Bull for lunch on Thursday. I was overwellmed by the consideration and help given to me by Ben. On top of which the food and service could not be bettered.

We visited the Bull for a meal the service was excellent Ben & Imogen where polite and nothing was too much trouble

Kiarah was a very good waitress. She was efficient and happy to talk to the adults and children. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was lovely and we will definitely be coming back.

I recently visited The Bull, and it was an incredible experience! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a warm, inviting atmosphere that instantly made me feel at home. The decor has a charming blend of vintage and modern touches, creating a cozy yet vibrant vibe. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, ensuring that my drink was always full and my food came out promptly. Speaking of food, the menu offers a fantastic variety of options. I tried the artisan burgers and they were absolutely delicious—perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. The locally sourced ingredients really made a difference! Ben, Claire, Elisha, Kiarah were all amazing, and should be really proud of the environment they have built in the pub. The drink selection is impressive, featuring a wide range of craft beers and unique cocktails. I particularly enjoyed their signature brew, which paired perfectly with my meal. The live music added an extra layer of enjoyment to the evening, creating a lively yet relaxed atmosphere. It was the perfect spot to unwind with friends after a long week. Overall, The Bull exceeded my expectations in every way. I can’t wait to return for another wonderful evening filled with great food, drinks, and company! Highly recommend!

We stayed here overnight with a group of friends on our way to Cambourne. We were late checking in but that was no problem. Helped quickly so we could have a nice beer in the beautiful bar. The rooms were typically English, very nice. The breakfast was good. Checked out through the friendly Claire at reception, thanks for the stay!

We were thrilled upon arrival to hear that Ellie has passed her test! Such a polite young lady, always has a smile for us and other members of the public. Always goes out of her way to greet us and make us feel welcome!

Had a great lunch today, and it was made extra special due to the excellent customer service I received by bar staff, Kwai. Will definitely come again.

Most disappointed !. Bad start when we saw abbot and IPA as their hand pulls . Well at least they had a level head on tap ! . Sadly things went down hill when trying to order food !. I fancied the pulled pork burger !. Young lads took our order ,only to have to come back and tell me they had no burgers !. Ok !, I'll take the hunters chicken . Only for her to come back and tell me they had no BBQ sauce !. Now I didn't fancy the roast with seasonal veg as I don't particularly like veg . So after struggling to find something on the menu (limited). I settled on a pie with chips .This still came with something green veg wise !. Now the pie was quite big !, but to me it didn't warrant £12. Don't think I'll be returning anytime soon personally !.

500 Yr old pub so rooms reflect this. Room cramped and stuffy. Breakfast poor, but has own parking in town centre.

Nice pub in good location. Husband had the Steak and ale pie, which was much bigger than he expected and very tasty.

Had to wait quite a while to be served as there was only 2 people working the bar. Decided to order some food, of which nearly half wasn't available. Was then told 10 minutes later there would be an hour wait until it was ready. Possibly a one off but not keen to return to see.

The inflated Prices for the rooms do not reflect the standard of them, chipped and peeling paint on doors and woodwork. Dated carpets and furniture. Overall very Tired. TV has minimal channels, not full freeview. Staff nice enough just not professional.

Just popped in for a quick pint before going to a local restaurant. Not enough time to really judge but quite pleasant though.

Was going to write a lovey review for the food and service. That was until we tried to use the disabled facilities. This green king pub restaurant and hotel have no facilities for disabled people and it is against the law since 2010 not to provide these facilities. DISGRACEFUL !!!!!

Easy to find, parking , clean premises. Great atmosphere with lovely staff and brilliant music. Family friendly and able to watch footy too. Didn't eat but the foods very popular. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

lovely pub, warm and cosy, food was fantastic. I didn't stay, so I can't comment. Require more staff because we waited nearly fifteen minutes at an empty bar to be served.

From start to finish nothing was to much trouble for Claire and her team especially the young lady Alicia foo was great the room was warm and clean and we enjoyed every minute of the time spent there and we have rebooked for next year so thankyou for a great stay

Just spent a great weekend at this pub /hotel when we arrived we had a warm welcome from Claire and her staff especially the young lady alicianothing was to much trouble clean warm room great breakfast and the restaurants food was brilliant I would recommend if your looking to stay in halstead I would highly recommend the bull in halstead

We had a lovely meal at The Bull, the food was excellent and the service was faultless. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating. They were all so friendly and welcoming. Thank you Claire and team for a lovely evening. We will be back next year for sure

Great pub, awesome atmosphere, a few locals however hogging the small bar. The barmaid could do with a shot of enthusiasm, she seemed a bit dreary and an effort. Food was very tasty, but £3.50 for a plate of chips. The waitress asked if there was anything else she could get us, I said the rest of the chips. Met with a gruff response. Sign of the times I guess.

Been to The Bull many times and have rarely never had any issues until my recent visit last week, I'm not sure if the staff have changed recently but found them less motivated and quite rude but will return again. I have stayed twice in the rooms and found them to be great rooms and would stay again.

Didn't stay in a room. Just stopped for food and drink. Pleasant staff and nice food. Had the chicken and ham pie with mash and brockley. Pleasant meal well priced.

Solid pub with a nice quiet atmosphere (on a saturday evening). Service was good. Beer selection was ok. I didn't book/ use the 'Rooms' available at the back of the pub, which the carpark backs on to.

Tried to order off of the lunch deal, the bull pub had run out of all the ciders listed so tried to charge us full price, to serve it separately. Surely take it off of the menu, or greene king shouldn't advertise it if they can't provide it.

Just had 2 roast beef dinners Sunday lunch probably the worst I've ever had can see why they take your money first would not eat there again if they paid me very very disappointed

Excellent value for money, very nice Roast Turkey on Sunday, after a visit to the snowdrops at Hedingham Castle. Lovely staff. My only negative comment would be that I phoned earlier in the day, asking if I needed to book a table for between 2 and 2.30pm, and was told that it wasn't necessary. Then, when we arrived they originally said they didn't have any spare tables, but then found one, luckily, otherwise, I would have been very annoyed.

Worst hotel ever been in, headboard was disgusting, sheets and pillows were dirty. There was also bed bugs and have been bitten. Also, got about 30 minutes of sleep as the fan was so loud and high pitched,. Would not recommend at all, do not go here

We had a meal and drinks. I think the staff may have been new as there service was slow. Though they were polite and doing there best. Our table was not cleared away after we had eaten and we left 30 mins later. The food was nice and arrived on hot plates. We did have a toddler with us but the food was served to adults first, with at least a 2 minute gap. The child's food arrived last, on a hot plate so we had to request for a cold plate. They need to know when children are eating, they are served first.

We have stayed in most of the Green King inns in the south east and i have to say that this wasnt the best experience. Starting with the room, we dont expect much just a bed and a shower will do, but we would like them to be clean. The bathroom was dirty, and the room was a bit like a storage cupboard. The ironging board just leaning against the wall as there was no wardrobe of anything. We did get a coat hanger on a hook on the wall. But once we asked for things to be sorted they did. But the breakfast we had to ask for spoons, water, milk just what you would expect. My husband ended up stirring his coffee with the handle of his knife as he got fed up with waiting. All in all not a top experience, but dont get me wrong we arent looking for The Ritz, just a little bit of extra from the staff. If the coffee is empty take a look at the tea too and then fill them both up to save customers asking for everything.

Went for a family meal just after Christmas. Overall the food was nice and reasonably priced. The only thing we noticed was that there was not enough staff manning the restaurant, they were having to double up while serving at the bar, so service was a little slow. Not that this bothered us much but to some it might.

Impossible to get hold of. They don't answer the phone or call back when message is left. Never reply to emails or Facebook messages.

The seiner meal is tiny. The gap between courses was long, over half an hour. Meal was good it was because of the service I'm giving it a 2* on this visit.
