So having been turned out of the Old Farmhouse because they were ‘full’ (😂) even if 3/4 of the tables were clearly empty we made our way to The Buck Inn in Sadberge. It’s a small local pub but nicely decorated with a warm welcome. It serves home cooked food nicely cooked. A gem of a place!

It was our 10 year wedding Anniversary and my husband Booked our table , we got their half hour early and it was no problem as only 2 Diners in all ready, my husband ordered the parmo which he adored the fresh chicken , plenty of thick cheese chunky chips salad and coleslaw. I ordered the Homemade Lasagna came with thick chunky chips salad coleslaw, no option of Garlic Bread, Unfortunately the Lasagna sickly with what looked like triple cheese ontop, I liked the salad and chips, My husband ate the lasagna after his parmo meal. No option of dessert - we paid and left, my husband wanted to give it 5 starts - Lucky Buck Inn.

The food came out n was average at best , my double Angus with cheese was overcooked and dripping with cheese fat ! The chips tasted like they were cooked in old fat !! Dont even get me started on my wife's chicken goujons!! The Coors lager was excellent

Booked a table today as my husband loves the wraps that are regularly promoted on your page. Arrived, ordered drinks, tried to order wraps from the menu to be told they have to be pre-ordered.. no one made us aware of this on booking nor is it stated anywhere on the Facebook posts or on the menu.. I complained to a member of staff and explained I wouldn't have booked a table had we known this, she said we should have been told and they should make people aware, I explained we weren't going to be drinking the drinks as we weren't staying and she said she'd go away and sort it, by "sort it" she meant send someone else back to take payment for the drinks that were still on the table! Absolutely disgraceful, you promote these wraps regularly, why don't you make people aware it's pre order?! We've been many times before and never had to pre-order, you should make customers aware of this

Had a meal in the restaurant here and it was great. Yes the pub lacked a little atmosphere as we had the restaurant to ourselves and all the locals were in the bar watching footie but I didn’t care as I was too excited to have a proper “teeside parmo” . I Had a “sexy donner” parmo off of the menu from here and it was absolutely phenomenal. In the words of the waiter who served us “you’ll be in a food coma after this” dayum weren’t you right! Honestly the parmesans here are amazing and massive portions too! You won’t be disappointed. The chips are also home-made and delicious. Service was quick, friendly and efficient. I will recommend to others.

Making the best out of a tricky outside dining only experience! Extremely impressed with staff competence and people skills. There was one young lad who was a little peculiar but there was two other taller guys an a lovely girl helping us and the service from everyone of them was fantastic, never let us get an empty glass! Food was also amazing quality, best Parmo in the area, good serving size. More halloumi fries in a portion wouldn't be a miss mind! Overall extremely happy with the experience in this establishment and fully intend to attend again.

We've been to the buck in a couple of times , the vegetables were raw and rock hard on the Sunday lunch also we went for s family meal and one of the party was vegan , the chef couldn't even make him a salad so had to spend the full service watching the rest of the diners eat " Patmos" without anything to eat and the Patmos themselves tasted like they were from a cheap take away when the pubs chuck out and you grab something on the way home, greasy and average and we won't be going back

The best meal I've had in a long time. My family had the lasagne and chips, kids parmo, chicken gougons and parmo. I had the parmo and it was the best I've ever had, chips were very nice, the lasagne was really nice and there was no lack of food. I tell you what though, there was some wacky versions of parmo, including the bolognese parmo. The menu had something for everyone. Can't wait to go back.

First time visit today and may return, good selection of burgers and parmos available. I opted for the hunters burger and it was tasty if a tad dry, could have done with a little more cheese and bbq sauce. My main criticism is the way it arrived, on what I'd call a narrow cheese board/spanking paddle lol I had to take caution when eating otherwise I would have been eating it off the table and the small board meant I couldn't tip my chips out of their basket to salt them. Please just use a plate! Ps please buy some wd40 or a new hinge for the squeaky kitchen door it's annoying

We had been to choose our next car and on heading back home I decided to follow signs I had seen on the way down to the Lexus dealership so on return we called in to Sadberge, never been into the village before, passed many times before but I, we will be back we drove into the village from the A66 and passed the Buck inn, turned at the junction and parked at the rear, we arrived at 2:50 with a sign outside that stated 12:00 to 3:00 for lunch it was quite busy but we were seated in one of the window seats, a rainy day with misted windows, but a nice atmosphere, I ordered the meals and drinks and had a bit of good banter with a couple of the locals, three dinners and drinks £34.95 great value, after a short wait the waitress arrived with our meals and the fluffiest eyelashes possible lol, a very nice girl, the plate was full, my wife and I had the Beef and my mother in law had chicken, as we were late in the serving I did not expect much, but how wrong could I be, the veg was plentiful and cooked nicely, carrots, broccoli, cabbage, peas, swede, real potato mash, stuffing ball and proper yorkies and the meat was succulent, the beef still pink, and the chicken, my mother in law actually asked to take it with her, never known her to do that in 30 years the chef owner came to ask how it all was and is obviously a very capable chef, when we came to leave the chef had put the pork cracking on the bar, so we had to get a sample as we passed, it was really good, we dine at some very high end restaurants, my wife has experience of cooking for fine dining and royalty, even I cook an excellent Sunday lunch so to compare, it has to be at least as good as mine, this was that all day long even though we live 40 miles away we will return when I pick up my new car we will be back

Went there a few months ago, called ahead to book a table, once there, we were made to wait at the bar for 18 mins, then they finally clear us a table, and waited long for our food too. Our starters came later than others who arrived after us. My partners starter was apparently forgotten. Then another long wait for our mains. Which was honestly below par, lukewarm and bland as hell. The waitress didn't bother to comment on our still full plates as it was collected. We avoided ordering more to try and avoid waiting But alas, they kept us waiting at least 15 minutes to pay the Bill, even after asking two staff members. But after leaving my partner informed me of the horrid state the toilets were in. Won't be going back. I recommend everyone to avoid this place like the plague tho.

Popped in for evening Tea, had a beer & a half then ordered Scampi & Chips twice & a portion of onion rings, on 1st impression the bar man was miserable but hey we all have bad days , there was about two tables with people on in the restaurant and two in the bar, so not at all busy. Anyway I asked if I can put the food on a tab he nodded, we sat in the bar area enjoying our drinks, after about half hr he came over and threw down the cutlery and I ordered another 2 drinks , no conversation from him, another half hour passed so I asked would our food be long and his reply was we been really busy but can you pay now, odd request before even seeing the food on the table so paid the 25 quid, after another 20 mins I asked again and he said 10 mins but after over an hour and half my Friend went to the bar and polietly said we must leave as it's been too long and he said if you give us 20 mins we will plate it up. My friend said no thank you just give us our money back, he said your not getting it all back and threw our money on the bar, extremely Rude manners and really poor customer service. Well this place has changed a lot since last time we were in years a go . It is now modern and the décor is welcoming, it was clean and busy. The menu was small compared to other pubs but to be fair there was enough on it and had a variety of meals to pick from to suit all I would say. I had the lasagne and I am so glad I did well presented with the salad and garlic bread, it was delicious. Had chips as an extra and they were also very nice and tasty. Price wise it was average as far as bar meals go but worth every penny. I had read other reviews to see what others thought which swayed me to try it, some said the staff were always smiling if I am honest I didn't find it overly welcoming and never saw them smile which is a shame. We waited an hour for our food which was really off putting. Gave us plenty of time to chat and people watch though, I did notice that meals ordered from the same tables were not all coming out together, some had a significant gap in between. I have also been to the George in Stockton a few times and meals were staggered the same for some reason? Pretty unusual for a bar meal as when you go out you all go out to eat together? Wasn't just a nip in the kitchen to get another sometimes was a fair few minutes. They were busy but an hour after ordering is a little too long to wait I think, my friend said he would never go back for that reason. I will try it again see what it is like for waiting time if it takes an hour again I probably won't go back either. Might just be that they had a busy night it was a week night so wasn't expecting it to be so packed. Credit where credit is due though the food was spot on, can't fault it!

We returned for our group summer get together and it's obviously changed hands since we were last here. Despite our doubts on seeing the menu, what we ordered was very nice. I would like to have seen some vegetables served with the meals, and a choice of fish other than fish finger wraps and fish and chips. Shepherds pie served with chips wasn't my idea of a balanced meal no matter how nice it was. There was a little hiccup with our order but this was overcome very quickly with lots of apologies and a complimentary drink - anyone can make a mistake and it's how it's dealt with that's important. The staff were very friendly and we received good service for our large group (14 of us). If you're looking for pub grub then this is your place, just not a sophisticated menu.

HelloFirst let me tell you that so far I have completed 4 reviews on tripadvisor so I don’t consider myself as some food critic or restaurant review master. However I am a fully qualified and trained Chef, I have also worked in the service industry for many years. I have recently (at the age of 51) moved into a new career as a caregiver to people in their own homes. The idea is to help people stay independent and engaged within the community. I am thoroughly enjoying the role, by gaining a better understanding of the challenges our clients face every day.On Wednesday 14/09 evening I had the pleasure of taking one of my clients out for a meal, with all good intentions of going to a Pub in the Stockton area (one we had been to before and he felt comfortable in they serve a “good pint”), however my client told me he knew of a good Italian not far away that he used to go to and could we go there. Why not? I thought. Well at first I was quite confident, as the client had managed to direct me to a Chinese takeaway he wanted to go the week before, all be it that it had closed down many years ago, he told me the restaurant was in a row of shops at the top of the road we were on, so I drove on. No shops, no restaurant, we come to the end of the road. At the junction the client tells me we go left and the restaurant is just round the corner. 5,6 or maybe 7 miles later we come to small village by which time the client has forgotten about the Italian and is now wondering why he is not having his “good pint” and some bar food. There are 3 bars in the village all serving food. My client does not like the look of the first one, we move on. When we get to the second one he is happy it has a car park close to the door. We park, and make our way to the bar. We are greeted by a young girl who is very pleasant and happy to give my client a taster of their cask ales. My client is over the moon with one and orders a pint. We look through the menu a few times before my client decides to treat himself to a sirloin steak (10 oz of tender steak with all the trimmings and a strong stilton cheese sauce), he was in heaven. We take a seat in the window and chat, there is a couple next to us that have just finished their meal and are preparing to leave, when the landlord comes over to clear their table and starts to talk to them. As they leave he turns his attention to us. Asking where we are from and before we have the chance to answer he realises I have an Irish accent and launches into how he always wanted a pub in Ireland and some story about how much money he had and how the bar staff in Ireland are so much better than any from England… I manage to get in that my client is enjoying the real ale, and that if the food is as good we will be back. He assures me that the food is first class and that he oversees all that goes in and out of the kitchen, at that he gets called away. We sit for another 30 minutes or so and I can see my client is getting a little impatient, so I go up to the bar and speak with the bar man (boy) who informs me that the kitchen is very busy and ours is one of five orders they are currently dealing with, but he would go and see how long our food would be. I order some more drinks and the bar man comes back to tell me that our food is being plated as we speak. Happy days.I return to the table with fresh drinks and good news. 15 minutes later our food comes to the table (I by the way had ordered fresh chicken goujons with sweet chilli sauce). My client’s plate, I was glad to see, was huge, stacked with fresh onion rings, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, chips and salad (I knew he would not eat it all but, the fact he thought he was getting value for money was worth it) After a few minutes I asked him how the steak was, he replied he had not got to it yet. I asked if it was OK to move some of his food for him so he could get to the steak, he agreed and I did. At this point my heart sank what I revealed what could probably be best described as a hoof, about 3” thick and about the size of my fist. I looked on politely as my client tried to cut into this lump of meat, at that the young bar man came over to check if we were OK. I asked if they had a sharper steak knife we could have, he said he would go and look but was not hopeful (you would have though I just asked him to clean out the toilets) He did come back some time later with a wooden handle steak knife (the old one you use to scrap off burnt on food from your hob top, which he probably had to spend the last 10 minutes cleaning) which he assured me was much sharper. I have no doubt the knife was sharper, however I don’t think a samurai sword or a chainsaw would have made a difference at this stage. My client made the best of it, bless him. By the way my chicken was indeed fresh, fresh straight out of the freezer, deep fried, dry and tasteless. At this point the young girl that had served us drinks was wiping down tables in the bar. She asked if everything was ok. I could no longer keep quiet, and went on to explain that the sirloin we ordered had somehow transformed into some unknown life form that refused to be cut or eaten. She said she would talk to the landlord (remember he checks all the food in and out of the kitchen so I was happy we would have an answer) 10 minutes later the landlord was nowhere to been seen (I feared the worst. The landlord had been eaten by the rest of the alien meat as he checked the plates leaving the kitchen and was now in a heap at the kitchen door trying to warn the rest of the staff and customers). I thought it best to let my wife know that I may be late home, also to let her know where I was for the search party “ground zero of the apocalypse”. On my return I discovered the steak had disappeared off the plate, my first reaction was to check that my client was ok, had he been attacked in my absence? had he been bitten?! What happened to your steak?, “they took it away “who (thinking National Security) “the owner”, it seems he came over while I was outside and stabbed the beast with a knife and removed it from my client’s plate. I waited for the results of the investigation, what I got was the young bar man telling me that it seems there was some confusion over the steak we ordered ( quickly I thought back, did I say please can we have the indestructible, uneatable lump of alien meat , no. No, I can clearly remember 10oz Sirloin medium please) the young man went on to say that the owner was willing to offer “some” compensation (it was too late the alien meat had got to him too) at this point I told him I would pay for the drinks but refused to pay for the so called food. He would have to talk to his leader (so it begins). The landlord did reappear at the end of the bar, as far from us as possible while still being in the same building, making small talk with some locals (all the while being controlled from the meat master in the kitchen). The young bar man came back and quickly removed all evidence from the table without asking if we had finished. Well it was time for the fight back to begin. I got up and made my way towards the landlord, who was in the middle of the same story he told me earlier and although I could see the confusion as the controller from the kitchen telling him to retreat, he was trapped as I explained that I would not pay for any of the food and that good staff come from good bosses that lead by example and a few other choice words. Everyone scattered. The locals, it seems all had food waiting for them, and the landlord had been called back to the kitchen (no doubt to be reassigned) . I asked the bar staff to prepare our bill, this of course sent them into a complete meltdown. To give them time to add up the four drinks, I went to the loo. On returning I found the bar completely empty apart from my client, with our bill sitting on the end of the bar, I checked it and it was just for our drinks, I paid. I helped my client get ready, and as we left I was letting him know where the steps where, the bar staff reappeared with another women behind the bar. We said goodbye and thank you as we made our way out. I was holding the door for my client as I heard the woman say “that’s the TYPE that will go home and slate us on Facebook”. My client had cleared the door and was stood in the corridor I asked if he was ok “oh yes” good. I went back into the bar….. Now up to this point you will have noticed I have not mention any names or places that because as previously mention I have worked in this trade for a long time, and I know how easy it is to have a Bad Day but give me a break THAT TYPE!!!.So as I re-entered the bar of THE BUCK INN in SADBERGE, DARLINGTON I approached the bar to tell the staff that up to that point I had no intention of passing comment on the Facebook or anywhere else about that evening’s events and had been happy to let it go (Frozen Reference) however now I would make it my purpose for living to make sure that anyone who will listen, will hear the story. Anyone that can read will have the opportunity to review what happened, and that I will never set foot in the place again. I may have let my imagination get the best of me in places but the underlying story is true. The food was outrageously bad and the service was worse.Paul.

Booked a table for two for 6-30, when we arrived we were shown to our table, given a menue and ordered a drink. We ordered of early bird menue, I had lasagne, instead of garlic bread , I asked for a few chips, my partner had the steak pie, there was quite a few people who ordered before us, roughly about 10,we thought we might have to wait as we had heard of people waiting a long time but all in all we didn't wait that long. The food was pipping hot, just one complaint some of my chips weren't cooked enough, I didn't complain as there was only a few that were under done. The staff were very attentive, couldn't fault them. It cost us under £20 for 2 cokes and 2 pints of John Smith's and 2 meals, bargain if I say so. We will be back.

We went in with a groupon that we had bought a few weeks back. we reserved the table the week before and when we got there they seemed reluctant that we had booked. looking around it was not busy so we could of sat anywhere. the young man on the bar had a bad attitude and was more interested in what he was filling his own face with rather than serving us. we finally got sorted and sat and sat we did for 55 minutes and still no sign of the food! fish and chips should not taken that long and in a pub that was so quiet that hay was practically rolling round the bar! never again will we be back in this establishment.

Being married to a guy from Middlesbrough, any parmo related offers are rather tempting; hence the Groupon Deal of 2 parmos for £10.50 was too good to miss! The Buck is a nice enough pub, being small and friendly too. There was a choice of 2 red wines, both Californian; I chose a large glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, and very good it was too.We decided on a starter to share, which was the garlic mushrooms. They were OK, but the breadcrumb coating was a bit soggy, and didn't really need the balsamic vinegar plate drizzle. We wouldn't choose them again. Then for the star event..the parmo. It was freshly cooked, with a good tasty side salad and a big portion of lovely fat chips. The parmo expert (my husband!) thought the parmo was excellent, and I must admit to having to agree with him. Would we visit The Buck Inn again for food? With the Groupon Deal it is definitely excellent value for money, hence the 4 stars. If we had paid more, it would be mean to only give 3 stars (TripAdvisor should have another rating for good between average and very good) as overall we thought The Buck was better than average, even if we had paid more!

Don't go, I will never go again, over an hour from ordering to get food, and it wasn't busy, food- I left most of mine, was obviously frozen and defrosted, not cooked fresh, gf did however like hers, but she not as fussy as me. Couple on table next to me waited longer than I did to get there food.

Having visited previously and always enjoyed the food we were very disappointed with the service...again. Waited 45 minutes for our meal to be told it's busy! Why drag people in on the early bird to fill the place then let them down by having to wait such a long time? Sort your kitchen out...this time we won't be back

I very rarely write bad reviews and having read all the other reviews on this pub this review might be ignored but please take note. I visited the Buck a month ago with a group of 6 friends, we all had the 2 meals for £12 and all really enjoyed our meals, based on this we arranged to go back again and met up there this evening. The experience this time was totally different. We waited over an hour for our food then all but 2 meals came out, the rest of us had almost finished our meals when the waiter came out and said sorry but the chef had forgotten the last two steak pies and would have to start again and it would be another 10 minutes. There was no sincere apology off anyone, another two tables also complained that they too had waited over an hour for their food. We weren't asked if we wanted more drinks at any point in the evening. The food was ok not as nice as last time. We decided not to leave a tip and our 4 pence change was slammed down on the table with a smirk from the young waiter. At this point I asked if a manager was present, the waiter pointed out the landlady and I asked if he would ask her to come over. I heard her say to him 'What now!' when I challenged her on this she denied saying it. She claimed to have been unaware that there had been any problems that night other than a slight delay on food. She had been walking around the pub all night and surely would have noticed how long people had been waiting. I understand places have bad nights and staff shortages etc but I would have at least expected her to come over and say sorry for the wait and give an explanation. She really couldn't have cared less and seemed quite put out that we had bothered her. It is such a shame because it is a lovely pub just need to sort out the landlady's attitude. We won't be going back.

Called into The Buck after an afternoon out, having never been before. The restaurant was already quite busy (6pm) and we were asked if a table in the bar would be acceptable as we hadn't booked. The early bird menu was shown and our selection was made 2 mains for £11:95. Everything was very clean, friendly and inviting. My partner chose the Thai Curry which was delicious and I had the lasagne which also was extremely tasty and piping hot to the very last bite. If this menu and standard is a sample of their restaurant menu( which was in the process of being completely re vamped ) we will definitely return.

What a lovely place, its our second visit but first time was a long time ago, food was fantastic, both my Mrs and I had the large Parmo it was great, my Mrs could not eat all of her meal which is unlike her, the food was great ,the service was lovely and the staff and the owner were very helpful, we had a group on deal but they do a tea time special with 2 for £11.99 possibly more sensible if you are not a big eater, overall I would definitely recommend The Buck Inn and we will return.

We decided to give the Buck a try as I pass it every day but have never ventured in.The pub is nicely decorated and split into a bar area and a dining areaThere was only one other couple in the dining area so there was not a great deal of atmosphereWe were given the lunchtime menu that had about 10 choices for the very good price of 2 for £12. The food was very good for the price and was washed down with a pint od cask ale and a large white wineThe total cost for the lunch was just over £20 and was excellent valueI would definitely go back and would recommend that you give it a try

I called in with my mother for fish and chips. Neither of us had been previously. There was ample parking in a private car park at rear of the pub. We had pre booked and the night before the manager had called us to inform us that there card machine was not working and was due to be replaced the following Tuesday. We were grateful for this as we were prepared and brought cash. New ish decor but pub was clean and tidy but we were also the only lunch time customers. The food was delicious and all home made. Drinks were cheek and of a high quality. Felt they could have paid more attention to our needs as we were the only customers but would defiantly return for food.

Took my wife and little boy out for tea as a surprise. When we arrived it wasn't to busy and we were sent through to the dinning room were all I can describe the waiter who looked about 12 sent us back through to the pub, we ordered our drinks and meals and our starters arrived and were quite nice, then we had to wait about 1/2 hour for our mains. When they arrived both looked very well done (they were both parmos) mine was ok but my wife's had no bacheml sauce under the cheese and was under cooked so she complained, all she got was I'll tell the chef no offer to replace her meal. as it was under cooked my wife didn't eat it so she want to ask for the manger and he wasn't very helpful my wife had to suggest he did something like take something off the bill we won't be going back

My husbank had black pudding and bacon for starter and parmo for main, both portions were large even for him, but well cooked and presented, the service was excellent too, highly recommend

Food and staff are second to non. Practically family now Im in there that much. Unfortunately for me. Fantastic old school cooking as well as healthy and special options. The savouries are famous and so they should be, sometimes get a savoury with my meal. Your not from Darlo unless you’ve had a savoury in your life. The girls/lads all bully me and only reason I keep going back. Ultimate breakfast or the Roast dinner with extra fried roasties are the one. Simon needs to pull his socks up when Im in though. Thats my only fault is our Simon, he knows what I mean! ;-) thanks for always looking after me. Also opens at 8:30 which is good for someone up as early as I am and needs feeding properly!
