Lovely lunch at a great price. Had lunch yesterday at Bryn Williams restaurant at Somerset House. Lunch was very nice and really well presented. The soup starter & chicken main we’re good, and the carrot cake dessert superb. Reason for only 4 stars was the steep price for the soda bread, which was 3 small slices with butter. Would definitely recommend a visit, great service and lovely view of the Thames.

Once a year I go to London with a group of girlfriends for a stunning lunch and a bit of a shop. Sadly this year we were let down by lunch. There is a distinct lack of communication between the waiting staff, bar staff and kitchen at this restaurant. Service was slow and disconnected with items not arriving in the correct sequence or not at all. My pre lunch cocktail never turned up, 10 minutes after my friends drinks arrived I was advised there was no grapefruit for my grapefruit mimosa, so reordered and waited, with my drink turning up with the starter. The delicious soda bread turned up and it should have done, but the side of nuts was tardy. My starter of sea trout was the blandest starter I think I’ve ever had! The garnish which should have given it a bit of a kick was so minimal you could barely tell it was there. My main was a generous duck leg, cooked well but let down by the thrice cooked potato (I think maybe only twice cooked!) and soggy beans. Dessert was fine. Then I made the mistake of ordering tea. The teas and coffees for my friends arrived, again my drink did not. Again, 10 minutes later an apology, they had run out of tea pots and I was presented with a random mug (not matching all the other tableware used throughout the meal) with some hot water and a teabag floating in it! I really was very happy to leave by that point!!

Restaurant, one third full. Left standing at the entrance while the maitre D figured out coupons presumably Groupon presented by other diners. Seated and offered water, waited for that. Almost 25 minutes later my order was taken which included a latte, after 15 minutes I had to ask one of the waitresses to bring it and she told me it was coming, it arrived after my food was presented 10 mins later. The food portions were bitesize and palatable but nothing spectacular considering the price. I work in the hospitality industry and got the distinct impression the staff here were playing at providing service. The management at Somerset House would do well to consider terminating this lease and extending the HEJ footprint, much better food, service, ambience and good value for money. It was full when I happened by with no seats available hence my eating here. I won’t be dining here again. I noticed confusion with other tables despite there being just 4. There are far too many options in this city to waste your money here despite the beauty of the building. Not enough to entice me back in sadly.

It was ok. The food was ok. The service was ok. But I dont think it was worth the money they charge. I wouldn't go back.

This was my third visit with friends to this lovely restaurant. Once again we opted for the Bookatable Star Deal - 3 courses and a glass of prosecco for £29, which is a real bargain! The staff are delightful - warm, attentive and helpful and the food is delicious. Very very good.

Disappointing. Dinner here was part of my Christmas gift for my wife. Not very busy for a Saturday evening, which I found confusing given the location. Arrived a bit early so had a drink in the bar first. Nearly £20 for a G&T (Sipsmith, admittedly, which is a premium product) and a Campari soda which I thought a bit steep. No orange slice available for my Campari, and no attempt to walk all the way to the kitchen for one. Strange decor and furnishing throughout, seemingly a bit confused and aiming for kind of early '70s retro, with burnt orange and browns featuring. Not v busy, as remarked, one staff person v pleasant and together most of the rest a bit vague and confused - communications seemed unclear.Table space cramped, odd given the large internal spaces. Food and wine ordered, wine came, and was just going to be poured without the customary tasting opportunity until I made it clear that this was wanted which made that particular waitron a bit sulky thereafter. Good octopus starter enjoyed by us both although portions a bit doll sized. Mrs. I. had risotto which was well executed and presented, I opted for cod fillet with curried mussels. Sides of exemplary thrice cooked chips (more like pommes Pont Neuf), and lack lustre green beans with crushed hazelnuts. Nuts were practically powder and brought nothing to the dish. Mussels were small and beautifully sweet, possibly Welsh ?. Delicately curried which worked well. The fillet of cod looked a bit overdone on the outside, but was undercooked on the inside- the tranche had been cut too thickly. The pleasant waitron agreed without demur that the fish was not cooked through and offered to replace. That was appreciated, but of course meant that Mrs. I. finished before the replacement arrived and threw us out of synch. The cod came and I checked through - a bit better, but still translucent in places. It took ages to attract anyone's attention, they were "busy" in a quiet restaurant fiddling with the till and chatting to each other. Fish removed again, and a different waitron returned arguing that kitchen had used probe to check fish temperature. I said that may have been the case but it was still undercooked. I suggested just finish the 2nd fish off under the salamander and was told this not possible as it had already been binned. A 3rd attempt was offered but I declined. They compromised with a slightly larger portion of the octopus starter as a replacement, which was satisfying but a bit tedious to have the same starter and main. Sides were not charged as a gesture, and some more of the fab fries had been supplied. Mrs. I.had cheese, ok, but nowt special, I had carrot cake, which, annoyingly had a dollop of cream on it. This had not been mentioned on the menu but should have been as I do not eat dairy. Disappointing, overall, and strange that a venue lauded as a fish specialist cannot do a basic adequately. I'm sad about this one, as had wanted to enjoy modern British cuisine. The set up seems unsure what it is trying to be, at best I would call it an OK gastropub style in grand surroundings.

Went for a friend’s 60th birthday brunch before a show. Food was really tasty and well presented. We had fish cake which had really crispy coating, corn beef hash and the crumpet with haddock Welsh rarebit. Deserts were amazing creme brûlée and mango cheesecake. Also coffee was really hot. Would certainly come again.

The views from the restaurant are good, decor is dated, the staff are quite friendly and efficient. Food wise the meal was just ok and to be honest wasn’t as good as we both thought it would be. I personally wouldn’t go back there as I wasn’t well afterwards which may have just been a coincidence.

Nice room, refined atmosphere, friendly staff & service plus a great value set lunch, the first we've seen to include a cocktail! We ate a truffled chickpea soup (lacking a true truffle hit, rather too thick but still good) & an excellent octopus/potato salad to start, then lamb (perfectly cooked) & cabbage steak which was redeemed by a mushroom pilaff & chestnuts. The perfect place to have a leisurely lunch after some culture.

Had lunch here (using a Travelzoo voucher, as was everyone else in the place that day!) High was excellent value, although the food wasn’t as spectacular as I had hoped. The mushroom scotch egg for starter was delicious, but the bed of leek it was served on were soggy and chewy. Likewise the octopus - it looked stunning but the octopus was very chewy. My butternut risotto was delicious (but the ‘crisps’ on top weren’t ...) and, while the chicken dish was delicious, it desperately needed a green veg with it. At £4.50 extra we did without. Both the cheese and the Bara Brith were good; we didn’t try the carrot cake so can’t comment. The staff were all absolutely lovely - friendly, helpful, attentive - and the venue itself is interesting, but I’m not sure I’d rush back. I just felt the food could do with being lifted up a notch ... sorry Bryn!!

We went because of the celebrity chef name and their sustainability credentials: no single use plastics and sustainably sourced organic produce. Turns out that is all true and the food is delicious and very reasonably priced. I had the slow cooked 24/7 menu which was delicious. Chick pea soup, sounds weird but was lovely and some deciduous Welsh lamb. Wine list is limited but all goo and well priced.

Went to tea at the Ritz and was not impressed. The scones were not good and not really scones. Ch and F&M offer better tea experience. Table setting and chairs were very cramped. Service was just ok.
