Browns in City of London, Westminster

Anna was so kind and held our table while I went to look for my mum, who was lost. We enjoyed a lovely relaxing pre-show dinner with wine.

I have never written a review but this is prompted by a mixture of anger and discust. The restaurant was booked on 16th January for lunch on 3rd February as part of celebrating my birthday. A booking CONFIRMATION was received. By pure luck we checked the website and discovered today (25th) that it is closed. No one was available on the phone. After calling another branch we were informed that it is closed for refurbishment for a YEAR. I am disgusted at the way we have been treated. The booking should never have been taken and we should have been notified of the closure. By sheer fluke we are able to chain plans at last minute. This attitude shows no regard for patrons.

Came here with my mother and other half for my birthday, we didn’t have a reservation but were sat quickly. A lovely young man by the name of Panay took care of us with quick drink recommendations while walking us through the menu, food and drink were amazing. He even took the time to bring me a free desert and a candle, couldnt recommended this place more 🫶🏻

A very nice restaurant with nice food. The waitress named Angela definitely helped us choose the food. We took a chicken schnitzel, pork belly, fish and chips. And some desert that Angela recommended us. A very nice waitress, kind with smile. Thank to Angela for the beautiful meal that we had 🙂

I love Brown's! Spent a lovely afternoon to celebrate my birthday. The waitress Anna, was perfect - friendly, excellent service. Anna found out it was my birthday and organised a special dessert complete with candle and made by Maria. Thank you!

Popped in with my partner for lunch on our way through London - I had the chicken schnitzel, she had the ribeye with peppercorn sauce. Food was very tasty and arrived promptly, and our waitress was very attentive and friendly. Can recommend!

The place looked nice and calm when we went but soon got busier. But our waiter Jai looked after us well and kept checking on us. The food was great and hot. Our guests were really happy with the food. Thank you, hope to see you again and try some desserts as well.

This is the second visit to this restaurant and both times we had the very reasonable set menu . Food was very nice and service good and friendly . Absolutely awful! Table of 9 for a work meal. After 15 minutes of waiting i had to find someone to take drinks orders. After another 33 minutes of waiting still no drinks so had to find someone. 40 mins in I still didnt have my drink. The manager was absolutely useless. Kept shrugging her shoulders at me saying that 33 minutes to wait for a drink is ok. Food arrived quickly and 7/9 meals were really good. Food was also hot. the other 2. 1 ordered rare steak and it came well done and the other had a hair in the risotto. When we spoke to the manager she said no one in her kitchen had hair that long, yet our male waiter had really long hair. It certainly wasn't ours! Generally awful and would never go back. The toilets have holes in the walls with tissue stuffed in them. Disgusting place. Avoid.

Popped in for coffee and something to eat while catching up with a friend. It wasn't particularly busy, but it took ages for the coffee to reach us (coffee was OK but really nothing special). Ordered a smoked salmon omelette, but what arrived was nothing like an omelette really. Quite tasteless, heaven only knows what it was cooked in and rubbery. Would not recommend this place.

Pre theatre lunch here and my first time at Browns. 5 of us enjoyed a superb lunch from the fixed price menu. We were greeted warmly, shown to a round table (perfect for groups) overlooking the precinct. Great choices on the menu and cocktails reasonably priced as was the wine. Our food arrived promptly with us all having starters. The main courses were all served hot and presented beautifully. I had the Duck starter and the very generous chicken and leek pie with mash. As a regular theatre goer, Browns is now on my list of worth a return.

Given hot water in teapots when asked for another round of tea at afternoon tea. Then we were told we would need to pay for each round of tea if we wanted it. Not seated for 40 minutes (arrived 5 minutes early for table) Seated ourselves after being directed upstairs but with nobody there to guide us. Told we would have to wait again for our afternoon tea due to a large party finishing their dessert. We were essentially invited to leave when we suggested perhaps that our booking should not have been taken if they couldn’t cope with the large event. Afternoon tea was fine but nothing special - much better at the Ivy. Were given pots of hot water when asked for another round of tea. Staff did not come near us again. We had to go up and pay the bill at the bar so we could leave.

Fabulous service. Best I have experienced for ages. JAY looked after us and he was wonderful. He should be hired out to other restaurants to show them how it's done! Food ok. Wine list good and not crazily priced. My booking had gone wrong and it must have been my fault as I did not receive an email. So there was no record of my booking. Guy at front desk very good - even though very busy he found us a table. Will definitely return when in the area.

I came into London to go and see Wicked at the London Apollo Victoria theatre. Just round the corner from the plaza that browns is located in. I chose to book a pre-show lunch in advanced here based on its proximity to the theatre and shining reviews in the past. It did not disappoint, it was actually one of the highlights of our day. Downstairs you have the bar area; it’s very nice, warm very welcoming. Ideal if you turn up a little early and want Pre-drinks. Then we were taken upstairs to the restaurant area. Shown to a good table with a good view of the restaurant and the window provided a good aerial view across the plaza outside. We ordered Prosecco to start with, because what theatre trip would be complete without a cheeky glass. Which we later followed up with a nice fruity rose wine. And I ordered the pork belly with crackeling. My friend ordered the ribs. It was all very delicious. Cooked to perfection. Ended up clearing and cleaning our own plates. 😋 and for dessert my friend ordered the crème brûlée. Beautiful. I however was curious for everything on the menu so I ordered the Brown’s desert trio which I think was a very good call. It gave me three smaller portions of their three best desserts including the crème brûlée. But my personal favourite was the chocolate brownie as any self confessed chocoholic would agree. We left browns feeling well fed and nourished. And ready for a “wicked” evening. Definitely recommend Browns if you’re in the area. I might be back myself soon. 😊

Tonight Alessandro was very kind and really helpful advising my friend who suffers from allergies. We ordered burgers and fish and chips, it was all very tasty and the service was really good.
