My wife and I had dinner here on a Saturday night after seeing great reviews on Google. We were certainly not disappointed! The resteraunt is small and the ambience is great, while the staff treat you so well and engage personally. We had a seat at the bar where you could watch food being prepared over the open fire. The attention to detail was facinating. The food was fabolous and not just the stake. My wife had Monkfish, perfectly cooked while the venison was excellent. I would highly reccomend the cuttlefish in pesto which was a real eye opener. All in all a really enjoyable evening and this place is an underrated gem in Norwich. Thank you to the staff for making us welcome.

Approached our meal here with some hesitance ( don’t know why). However was absolutely blown away with the entire meal. Genuinely one of the best places I have eaten in Norwich. Food - 5 Stunning food. To be clear I am a meat lover and this place delivered on all fronts. Steak and Pork chop were arguably the best quality I’ve had in the city. Sides were delicious as were starters. Service - 5 Brilliant service from the whole team. Welcoming, conscientious, knowledgeable and attentive. All staff had a good vibe, and glass was never empty. Ambience - 5 Really nice atmosphere. May have helped it was a Good Friday and the sun was out. But for friends dining out it is a really good location.

Another brilliant dinner with friends at Brix and Bones. Delicious & interesting food and absolutely fabulous service! I’ve never known such an establishment to employ such staff who are so knowledgeable & passionate about the food they are serving. If you are a foodie you must visit Brix and Bones. There are a lot of restaurants in Norwich but in our opinion, there are only about 10 which are really decent & this one of them - and interestingly, all of these are local independents - thank you!

Really tasty food served by an exceptional waitress. The restaurant is quite small and has a nice atmosphere. The tables for two are quite high with high chairs - not uncomfortable but a booth seat would of been a better option. Seeing the cooking going on in the restaurant is really good - seeing all the finishing touches being put on the dishes. Not the quickest food to come out but worth the wait, as was really tasty and well cooked. Interesting menu and well worth a visit.

This was to be a special meal to celebrate. We had seen good reviews and knew it would be expensive but if the quality was there then it seemed like it would be worth it. We got there as it opened in the evening and received a warm welcome. The service was very good throughout. For most of our meal we were the only people in the place. We had starters and these were excellent. Lovely flavours. Well cooked. Really good oysters and mussels and hake. Then it went down hill. There was nothing special about the meat except for the price. The cabbage side was lovely. The meat and the mustard mash lacked seasoning and flavour and were nearly cold because they had been put on cold plates. The steak had been sliced which also helped lose heat. We had a bottle of wine. At £60 it was one of the cheapest bottles available. It was decent wine, but not worth the money. The desserts were also disappointing. Again, they lacked flavour. The bill was a genuine shock. At £280 for 2 it was about £100 more than expected based on eating out in similar places. I guess it was partly our fault. We should have inspected the prices more closely. But the prices are not always prominent and can be hard to find. If you deduct the compulsory service charge then half the bill was the wine and the steak. Overall it was a very expensive and disappointing experience. Which is a shame because the place has atmosphere even when empty. The style of cooking suggests the food should be lovely and hot, coming off sizzling embers, but this did not happen for us.

Fantastic food, great atmosphere and fabulous service! A repeat visit for us and still fabulous. Wonderful wine recommendation from the owner which we really enjoyed. Perfect food. Serious food heaven - the joy of the mix of pickles with the charcuterie, the crunch loaf and the moules as a starter was exceptional. We had a rump medium rare for main- beautifully cooked and served and the sides make the whole meal exceptional. My favourite place to eat in Norwich. A real treat Thank you!

Insane good! Wife and I swung by this evening and had a brilliant time. Completely absorbing atmosphere, convivial hospitality and amazing food!! We chose a seat each at the bar/pass and we got a window into the theatre of food, fire and cocktails here. We got some fantastic insights into the passion for UK produce from George and gang. Every plate was banging and the whole steak choice from the boards, detailing provenance then Watching your cut being crossed off was pretty cool too. Get yourselves down there. Real hidden gem 👊💥

Style over substance! Not sure about eating with four fridges displaying the meat! The explains of the steaks was vague and each member of staff conflicted the others! Plates were cold, so when the meat and sides came it went cold very quickly! Steak not seasoned. Cabbage side served cold? Confusing??? Too many flavours in the sides to go with the steaks and no advice on what would compliment the meat. Over priced for very average food

5 Star loveliness Walk into this stylish, cosy hotspot to be charmed by the decor and fabulous team. I love good food/wine (and all of it) but my family doesn't eat red meat, we were blown away. Steak cooked to perfection and I only eat blue. Now an oyster convert I still feel I wouldn't go elsewhere for them. The sides are both soul food with the artichokes and inspiring with other vegetables. The hake was crazy good, the plaice both plentiful and moreish. Fab wine from Norfolk too. What I loved was the mix of couples, singles and families. A diamond in Norwich's rich restaurant smorgasbord. Go or you'll miss out.

The booking process is frustrating that if they have space you still have to book on the app and the site isn’t completely formatted kindly for mobiles, but we did it anyway. The restaurant is beautiful, the staff look the part. £7 for sprouts on side is steep when everyone is getting rid of them just after Xmas. The prime rib we chose was £12/100g and the smallest weight was 580g, which is enough for two but if you don’t want the same thing, this was the smallest quantity you could buy. Cocktails were lovely, I especially liked their version of an espresso martini. Little disappointed that the tables either side of us got two complementary Norfolk Crust loaves to take home with their bill, alas we did not, not sure why, but perhaps be more discreet handing out freebies if it’s not for everyone. I’d go back again but at circa £100/head probably more a special night out, I’m still a big fan of Prime’s steak even more so since they moved out of the upstairs of the Edith Cavelle.

VIBES We came in on a Friday and sat at the bar (we did have a reservation, so I'm not sure if they take walk-ins, but you definitely could try). I'd recommend sitting at any of the four to six seats on the left side of the bar to get a view of the chefs working in the kitchen. But anywhere along the bar looked great. The tables behind us looked fine and I think some of them have views out the second floor windows. But overall the place was dimly lit, but not so dim you can't see. And it had a cozy, intimate feel to it. Great for romantic nights out or dinner for four. They can accommodate bigger tables, I'm sure, but it seems best suited for 2 to 4 tops. STAFF Our main server (whose name I've forgotten - SORRY - but I'm fairly certain she said she was from Colchester area which is where my wife has family) -- anyway, she was great. Very friendly and willing to answer any questions we had about anything. She also made my Old Fashioned which was delicious and then walked me through the wine as I was trying to find something that would pair with dinner. We also had several other servers and/or chefs deliver food or pass by that we chatted with who were also friendly and available to answer anything with enthusiasm and knowledge But, everyone we had contact with was fantastic. FOOD (but not the beef, yet) & WINE For one of our starters we had the Black Battered Hake with Mushy Pea Emulsion, and Vinegar Chips from their current 12/2023 menu. The hake was outstanding with a nice, vinegary crunch from the chips. Not an overwhelming size but not so small that you felt you were being underserved. We also had a beet marinated salmon special, which had dollops of a savory, but mild white sauce which of course I cannot recall for our starters. The salmon was extremely tender but not mushy. And you only had a hint of the beet flavor and more of the beet color in the salmon. (I don't even like beets). For her main, my wife had the Pork Chop, Brix Tonkatsu, Katsobushi which came with a small of cup of sauce that is reminiscent of a savory BBQ sauce with the lightest touch of heat on it. We asked to take an extra potion of sauce home. And two people could share the chop, to be honest. It was a very generous portion. And I just nibbled a piece of the leftovers yesterday (48 hours lafter) and it was still so tender. We also had a side dish of brussel sprouts with a n'djua bread crumb topping and there was another element that I have forgotten (sorry, I'm the worst). But it was also a very nice portion but not overwhelming. And also delicious. Big surprise. They have a small but well curated "by the glass" wine collection as well as a number of bottles available. And you can taste anything that is open to help guide your selection. Obviously, most by the bottle options won't be available for tasting unless one happens to be open. THE BEEF There are two large blackboards hanging over the bar. Each had a separate cow with info on where it was sourced. The various cuts were listed -- ribeye, filet, rump, picanha, sirloin, etc -- and each had the price per 100g and the weights of each cut available. And once you ordered your cut they crossed it off the board (quite mysteriously if you're not paying attention). Apparently, they butcher the animal (that day?) and then weigh and list the cuts and that's what's on offer for the day. But it's literally one cut, so once you order it's gone for the day, so if you want the widest selection, I would get their early versus late. I had the picanha (260g) which was plenty for me. I had read other reviews (and then experienced) that said the beef may sometimes come to you a little lighter than you ordered. For example, I asked for medium rare but it was more rare than medium rare. So I would either have that conversation with your server or order one level up. i.e. order medium if you want medium rare, for example. I chose to eat it as presented and it was still excellent. Fantastic flavor with a beautiful sear on it. I know a few people have complained about the meat coming pre-sliced from the kitchen but I prefer that they slice it. A good chef (like these folks) will cut it properly against the grain to ensure that it's tender and not chewy. If you don't know what you're doing and cut your beef incorrectly you can sabotage your own meal. But the beef is the superstar of the restaurant and there's a reason why. TL;DR Will absolutely be going back the next time we're through. Highly recommend.

A really disappointing experience. After hearing so many good reviews, we decided to give this place a try for my partners birthday meal, however we left feeling totally ripped off. We shared a selection of starters including the muscles which were served In a bowl on a plate of pebbles - why? No empty dish was given for the shells or anything to clean your hands with as muscles are usually served. The Mutton tacos where the highlight but incredibly small. My partner ordered a 570g ribeye for a price of £57. Unfortunately when it arrived half the plate was fat some parts of which had not been cooked fully and it was served already sliced. This price was just for the steak, nothing to accompany it unless you paid extra for sides and sauces. We also ordered the seabass which was served whole with the head still on and a sauce on top of the skin, so unfortunately the sauce was completely lost as I had to pull all the skin off to get to the fish itself. The sides were very under whelming for £6 each - 4 carrots, still hard! We had no alcohol and my partner ordered a diet coke - £3 and served in a small tall glass with so much ice. I watched the barmaid pour it from a can and then put the rest behind the bar. My partner raised the issue about the steak to the waiter when our plates were cleared. He was seen to talk to the chef, but then nothing was done. We decided against desserts as we were already disappointed and thank goodness as our bill was £156 and a service charge had been added, bit of a joke really. The whole experience was really disappointing and I couldn't help but feel the place was very pretencious which made me feel uncomfortable.

Went in for a meal for 6 last Friday. The place looks really nice, seeing all the dry aged meat as you arrive really get you hungry. Once seated the server came over and gave us an excellent introduction to the menus which was was the building blocks on the journey we were about to embark on. Even before seeing any food we had felt like we had made a good choice. We all ordered something different from the 50 day and 120 day aged steaks menus with some sides to ensure we were demonstrating a good balance of nutrition. All the beef was ordered rare and absolutely beautifully cooked. Each cut had its own flavour. An absolute flavour experience. Even the veg we had on the side had soaked up flavour notes from the coals. After eating, the chef even came to check all was good. Fantastic food with the service to match.. Will definately be coming back.

We’ve been here a few times now, the setting, ambience and food are amazing. It would be a 5 star review if it wasn’t for a couple of the staff members. One female is frosty, and comes across as condescending when explaining the “standard patter” of how to order, even though when asked we now say we’ve been before. And a guy makes you feel very rushed towards end of meal. He goes to great lengths to remind you you have to leave at regular intervals, which is a shame when you’re spending that kind of money you should feel pressured into hurrying up. Can’t knock the food though, and most of the staff are lovely, especially the chef that brings out the donut.

You must try this restaurant! We stumbled across this place on a date night after we had been for drinks in the bar found above it (Gonzos Tea Room). Having no idea what we were getting ourselves into we asked if they had a table for 2. To which they replied yes, at the chefs table. These seats were amazing to say the least. To be able to see the team working together in the open plan kitchen was a real treat. All the staff members were super friendly and made it their mission to make sure you fully understood the menu. The bar staff made amazing cocktails and were keen to impress with the variety on offer. Hearing your food order get shouted out around the kitchen gives you goosebumps, as then you are able to watch the team slowly piece your order together like a work of art. If this was all they had to offer it would've been 10/10. But the team still went above and beyond. Upon completing the order the chef personally walked the food to us to present and describe the processes and ingredients behind each and everything on the plate. This really made you appreciate what you were being served. We went for the Japanese bread and oysters to start. Along with the 540g ribeye steak and sides to share as the main. All cooked and prepared to absolute perfection. Not a bad word to say about this place, and my only regret is that I should have ordered more. We will definitely be back.

What an amazing night, amazing food and service. In Norwich from Glasgow for a long weekend. Decided to book as the concept of the restaurant was really interesting. We arrived and were welcomed by a lovely young French girl. We were shown to a counter table directly in front of the kitchen. That is when the meal turned into an experience. Ian talked us through the menu and gave us the best recommendations ever. We had the loaf and treacle, don't be fooled, I don't like treacle but this is next level, my wife Marion would have been happy to eat this all night. We also had the flat bread. Both starters were amazing. Then the mains, sirloin, Pork chop, carrots and mash. Sound homely and it is if you can cook homely to Michelin star level. There was nothing that could have been any better. To round everything off we finished with nettle sorbet. How the hell you can get nettles to taste this good is beyond me. All of this and watching the two young chefs cook and have banter and just really look as if they were enjoying themselves made our night. Ian thanks for looking after us and tell Lorna we will send the tablet next week.

An innovative menu and the use of local produce was commendable. The chefs were friendly and on hand to explain the dishes, which was a warming touch. This was in contrast to the frosty front of house lady. The lack of table seating in preference of bar counter stools was not ideal. The dining experience overall was ok. The flavour of dishes set against the listed ingredients did not always match expectation. The mutton was tough to the point of being inedible. I have no regrets dining here, though at the price level set, I would probably opt elsewhere next time.

We had the Chefs complimentary table where we could observe the cooking process. Outstanding experience and as its on the first floor although it's a little harder to find it's certainly worth it. The bar staff a massively knowledgeable and have a wide array of drinks to help you to enjoy. And the food was flawless and presented by the Chef himself.

Wonderful evening! When you find a place where everyone is truly devoted to their craft, it never disappoints. That’s what we found at Brix and Bones. From the start of our experience at Gonzo’s Tea Room (downstairs), to the end of our amazing dining experience at Brix and Bones, the staff were second to none, and the food and drinks were some for the memory books. Pictured here, and all incredible: The Bloody Mary oysters, cabbage with lardo, mackerel (which I don’t like and it was still delicious), monkfish bites with crab Mayo, beautifully cooked ribeye, and mutton tacos. OMG can’t wait to find an excuse to go again!

Took my husband here for his 30th last night. It Was incredible from start to finish! Sat at the bar area and got to watch the kitchen which was fascinating. The food was just so carefully created and all explained when it came over. Well worth the 2.5 hour drive! Also the bar staff were so friendly, and gave a great bar recommendation for after! We will be back soon!

Extremely disappointed & angry. Booked an evening with friends through Brix & Bones website, one of our party decided to look at the menu only to find out that they’re now closed on the day we had booked, good job we didn’t just turn up for our booking. NO phone call, NO email, NO nothing from Brix & Bones. I phoned them for confirmation, to be told, yes they are closed, out of courtesy, someone should have contacted me. Can’t fill out any of the options, as I didn’t eat in, didn’t have dinner & didn’t spend anything.

Brix & Bones isn't cheap, however, it's worth every penny. Outstanding food, atmosphere and service. We had starters, awesome steaks, dessert and couple bottles of wine so our bill was quite hefty, but would go again and again for that food and experience. Recommended to everyone but call to book because it's not a big place.

Such a delight to be in a vibrant restaurant in Norwich. That doesn't close at 21:00 like most of this fine city🥴. It reminded us of Montreal restaurants, small, close warm contact with clients, real commitment to treating food differently. And then we found out that the owner is a fellow Canadian from Whistler. Great stuff thanks

Wow we are here last night and it was one of the best meals I have ever eat. Such a lovely restaurant setting and staff were brilliant. The cocktails were well made and balanced. We had the oysters, curry partridge and the smoked mutton pitta. Both were ridiculously tasty. I think you could order anything from the menu and it be delicious. For desert the doughnut was the stand out option. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place to anyone. Thank you for an amazing meal and we will be back :)

Honestly, I cannot remember the last time I enjoyed a meal that much. We had a recommendation from the waiter for our starter and a steak for our main. It was obvious how invested the waiter and the chef alike were invested in the food they were serving. Decadent, unique, delicious. Chuffed with the bill as well.

BnB was a delightful experience, clearly run by a close crew of food lovers with passion for their craft. The flavour combinations were outstanding. I went all fish, just picking out the brill starter, the combination of the various components was much stronger as a whole than the parts. Watching the team work also added to the experience. I was really pleased to see head chef coaching the team. I’ve been enjoying trying out many of Norwich’s fantastic restaurants as I visit for work, whilst isn’t the best for pure veges, they do stand out in a very high standard across the city. Hats off

I came from out of town with my wife and had heard amazing things about head chef George Wood and Brix and Bones. Everything we had heard was true and then some. The restaurant was buzzing when we got there and we were promptly seated. The entire staff was warm and welcoming. We decided to start off with an assortment of pickles and charcuterie and were impressed when we were told that everything was made in house. We further learned that all the meat and other ingredients were locally sourced, and that Chef Wood actually takes his team to forage for many of the items we would be eating that night. We were thoroughly impressed with the presentment of the food and the flavors. Our server paired a glass of wine for each entree and she couldn’t have been more spot on. For dinner, my wife ordered the plaice and I ordered the 81 day dry aged picanha. I’m not joking when I say I’ve never tasted a steak like this. It was buttery and nutty, and just melted in my mouth. The plaice was enormous and was prepared to perfection. The sides were equally as delicious and I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t have a bite of food remaining on my plate at the end of the meal. To finish things off, as though I hadn’t indulged myself enough, my wife and I split their homemade bone marrow infused donut, and it was out of this world good. This was by far the best meal I had on my vacation (including stops in so called world famous restaurants in Paris and London). The prices were more than fair, and the entire experience would have been worth treble what we paid. If you’re in Norwich and are lucky enough to book a table here, do yourself a favor and go, you won’t be disappointed. Thanks to Chef Wood and his team, they gave us an unforgettable experience.

Fantastic restaurant, as soon as we walked in we could feel a really nice ambience. It’s quite a small space but doesn’t feel cramped and there is plenty of space on the tables. Really like that you can also sit at the bar and watch the kitchen. The staff were very attentive and friendly but the best thing about the place is the food which was superb. The corn on the cob was excellent and the steaks were melt in the mouth. The only slight negative was that by the time we arrived at 8pm, a lot of the cuts had already gone so our choice was a little limited. However the quality of the meat is so good that whichever cut you have you won’t be disappointed

I visited Brix and Bones for the first time this week. It is a great recent addition to the Norwich restaurant scene. The food is top quality. Everything tastes fresh, with a great balance of flavours. Portions are generous and my rare Sirloin steak was perfectly cooked. My Almond sponge dessert was textbook in its lightness and elegance. May I also say a word about the wine list. It is very well chosen and has a range of really interesting wines. It is a refreshing change to see a list that had not been written for the restaurant by one of the major wholesalers. Instead the management has thought carefully about its choices. Our Lambrusco by the glass was a perfect example of why this wine can be so good. Well balanced with ripe fruit and tannins. Similarly, the Spanish Syrah was unusual but original. It went perfectly with the steak. The staff were first class. I will certainly return again to this very well run restaurant and wish it all the success it so richly deserves.

Visited with my partner on July 30th! We'd just been to Pride and were asked all about it by the staff member who greeted us which showed attention to detail and made us feel very welcomed and safe in the establishment. All the food was amazing, the staff were lovely, and my partner described it as better than Hawksmoor which definitely pleased the staff! (I've not been but I trust their opinion!) The non alcoholic cocktails were also quite different to the usual same old offerings which was incredibly refreshing! Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Book an early time slot to not miss out on the meats. This restaurant is one of the better steak places in Norfolk. If you don’t like trying new flavours and things then don’t go, but if you do this is the perfect spot, in need of a Michigan star in my opinion, just needs a bigger space.
