Traditional old pub, with slate floors, cosy log fire, and traditional food with a twist. Also has 2 lovely beer gardens, one has children's playground and fantastic views and is well placed in beautiful area. Bar is dog friendly and whole place has nice atmosphere.

How do I opine about the Steak and Ale pie? - except I was waiting for months to try it after seeing it whilst popping into the pub for a sneaky half on a hike break earlier this summer. My girlfriend just took me there for my birthday today. That pie nearly brought tears to my eyes - it’s incredible. The flavour of that filling is sensational. I have never tasted a pie like it. Thank you! I’d have paid double for that level of quality. As an eating experience it’s right up there with some of the finest restaurants I’ve been privileged in which to dine. I also tasted my girlfriend’s Moroccan lamb dish - equally as impressive to be honest.

Pretty poor. By about 8:30 we were the only ones left and made pretty clear we needed to go. Wanted desserts but refused, no one offered them to us or told us we needed to order before they closed. Place was cold, fire barely going. Food we had was bang average for the price. Overall disappointing customer service. Would have stayed and had another round of drinks and dessert but these guys clearly don’t need the custom or money and happy to close up by 9pm.

Came here for a meal with a group of friends on a Sunday evening. Best to reserve a table in advance as it gets very busy. Watch you head when moving about pub as it has a very low ceiling. Tables needed a better clean. Ordered the beef pie with chips and peas. The pie was freshly made and piping hot inside. It's a shame they did not use good cuts of beef though (hence only 4 stars) as I got a huge piece of pure gristle. Yuk. Ordered the sticky toffee pudding for desert. It came with a vanilla ice cream scoop. Nice large portion that I could hardly finish.

Really disappointing for a vegan. No starter option, and it took a lot of back and forth with staff to finally learn that I could have the veggie burger if it was grilled instead of fried…which was pretty awful sadly. Very surprised to see such poor effort on the menu in this day and age. Have been disappointed each time I’ve been, nothing changes, won’t return again.

Place was beautifully decorated and was busy too. We managed to get a place in the restaurant due to the lovely staff that were very accommodating. We visited a few years ago and it was a nice experience, so we thought we should visit again when we were in the area recently. The pub is nicely decorated, the food was very nice but the staff attitude was a little bit disappointing. They chose to chat behind the reception and to discuss personal matters when customers in the pub could clearly hear the whole story instead of maybe pay more attention to customers themselves in case they would like to order another drink.

Visited here in the week and had the Burger which was outstanding, so we decided to have a Sunday lunch here also. Quaint pub with lovely stone walls and a great place to have a pint and food. The Sunday lunch arrived and I can best describe the food as disappointing. Although the food was extremely tasty and the beef was mouth watering, I can best describe it as slightly less than warm. Also there was very little gravy to accompany the dinner, so we ordered an extra serving of gravy. There was four of us and the amount of gravy would not fill an egg cup, and at £3.00 a serving, I thought this extremely excessive. Two deserts and agin it was slightly less than warm. Overall extremely disappointing when we had an earlier meal in the week which was delicious. A generous 3 stars when we would have given it as 2.5, which the four of us all agreed upon.

A lovely Sunday lunch and dessert by 2 amazing chefs, who I worked with a long time ago, so I knew that the quality would be amazing. We both had the beef - cooked medium-rare, which came with the perfect amount of veggies and a lovely Yorkshire pudding. For dessert we had the bread and butter pudding and the Penderyn whisky parfait- Both were delicious. The building itself is a lovely old building, so unfortunately difficult to access from the car park to every level if you can't manage steps, but there's a door at the front of the building directly into the bar. There's a beautifully kept outdoor area to sit and for the kids to play, with beautiful views north over the estuary. 2 courses was £22 (Aug 2024), but it was a special occasion, so it was a treat, but we felt that it wasn't much more than we'd pay elsewhere, and everything was of a higher quality. All staff were friendly and attentive, too. Thanks :)

When we visited during our family holiday, we were expecting a nice meal whilst the children played on the park area. Annoyingly despite being barely 5pm many of the guests were drunk and arguing. Despite this, other areas of our visit were not brilliant. The food was basic pub choices of something and chips but overly priced with the average dish being £16. There was very little variety for the children's menu.

The views are stunning of the North Gower salt marshes and across the estuary. The beer selection was excellent with 3 hand pulled Ales. A lovely 'real' local pub with a restaurant serving excellent food. We ate in the restautant as we could book a table for our party of 8. The bar area also serves food but tables are on a first come basis. We've tried to eat in the bar several times before but have never been lucky to get a free table. The bar area is cosy with low beams. The restaurant traditional and functional, with diners also able to choose from the bar menu and bar specials. Whilst not cheap all the food we ordered was excellent and plentiful. My 48 hour slow cooked Ox Cheeks simply melted in the mouth. There was a continuous buzz permeating throughout the bar and made for a great atmosphere. A gem of a pub and come the warmer months the outdoor garden and play area will be great for our grandchildren. We'll be back :-)

Everyone was really friendly and lovely and the setting was also so beautiful! The woman who brought us the food was really positive and happy. We were sadly really disappointed with the food today though. The lamb roast dinner was like a microwave meal with mint sauce that somehow didn’t taste of mint (or even vinegar!). The meat, potatoes or other veg didn’t seem fresh and the mint sauce seemed to be water and blanched pieces of mint. All in all it was a bit sad that potentially really amazing local produce wasn’t cooked better. I’m not sure if there was a different kitchen team to normal but the food looked nothing like the pictures which was a shame because the people and setting were so amazing! We hoped leaving this message might be helpful as it’s such a nice place but we were so disappointed.

Only downside is location as quite far..from anywhere.. UPDATE 28.2.24 Had dinner along with wife and a visitor from Vienna. On time for the reservation at 7.15pm. Three courses and being tactfully (pointedly?) ushered out by 8.45pm No chance to sit and chat over a coffee and brandy after a nice dinner as "the coffee machine has been turned off". Shocking! We departed finding the chairs already on tables in the empty bar... If you say you are open til 10pm on a Wednesday...🤔 Sorry Britannia but you have let yourselves down badly.

We waited till gone 4pm before we sat our table which the room was freezing cold and no fires on. The lady came to take our order and it was as if she didn't want us to be there like as if we was a inconvenience. We ordered our food when it did come it was luke warm and hardly anything on our plates 1 slice of meat and 1 very small gravy boat to share between 6 people . The veg could of done with an extra 10 minutes to cook too. I have visited 'The Brit' twice recently to give them another try at regaining our custom after they lost it ten years ago. That's how long it's taken us to want to try this place again. We'd heard good reports about the food so we thought at last we should return. Rather than write a journal, suffice to say it is not acceptable to be told by an apparently disinterested barman that our prebooked table wasn't ready because "we have been very busy all day" and then proceed to give tables and take orders for food from people who had walked in without booking. Neither is it acceptable to tell us when we enquired about the progress of our table being made ready that they didn't have a booking in our name even though we had already been told our table wasn't yet ready. We eventually ordered our food an hour after we had booked our table. The food was good but could have been warmer. We might have been cheered up while waiting by the wood burning stove except that on one of the coldest and wettest November days so far, it wasn't lit! So, not a great experience and one we won't be repeating any time soon. Might even be another ten years!
