You don't wait long to eat here and the service is always great another plus is its spotless .

Very average place, quite expensive and not really a diner experience .The route diners were much better. Decor just looks grubby and horrible rather than kitsch or retro.

Stopped here by accident once on the way to McDonald's next door, what a happy mistake! Absolutely gorgeous food, amazing staff, don't have a bad word to say about the place an incredibly good price aswell. Can't recommend this place enough. Been back couple times since.

While you've been in Exeter and heading either to Plymouth or north on the M5 then a Brightside is well worth the visit. Great food choice and standard, today they seemed a little slammed due to a low staff count but they did a great job. Food arrived hot and tasted great. Will we go again, indeed.

We had a lovely breakfast here, the berry & mascarpone pancakes were the best I’ve ever had; although very rich and filling. My husband had steak & eggs & it didn’t disappoint. They were very busy on the bank holiday Saturday. We were told about the 30 minute wait and we were happy to wait. They needed more staff as the poor waitresses struggled to keep on top of everything but were trying their best. Lots of tables needed clearing & food was waiting at the service hatch. We didn’t mind waiting as we were in no rush and enjoyed the food. The staff were polite and helpful.

My family and I absolutely love this place!! We have visited this location 3 times in a month as we were driving past, the staff are amazing and so friendly, and the food is above and beyond! My new favourite cheeseburger 🤣🙏 We loved it so much we even bought some merch, some really cool T-shirts 😁

A great diner, good food, friendly staff and always clean, better than most roadside dining experiences.

This place looks great but we arrived and waited ages to be shown to a table. When we finally got shown to a table no one came back to take our order. When another table asked if they needed to sit somewhere else to be served we decided to give up and leave. There were plenty of staff around just no one seemed to be taking orders. Its a shame because the menu looked good.

I have been here a few times and it has alway been “average “. The last time thought it was pretty bad…. Food was cold and one mushroom cost £2.15! Over priced and not worth it.

Dropped in for breakfast for pancakes for a change. Great atmosphere and service. Helpful that it also opens early too. The rest of the menu looks good & judging by how others tucked in I’m guessing that they enjoyed their cooked breakfast as much as I enjoyed my pancakes. Will be back and will bring friends!

Great to see such a lot of big improvements since we visited last year. Best gluten free selection I've seen. Food very tasty and lots of options. Would definitely recommend the gluten free chunky chips! Staff very nice and helpful when needed and they made it very bright! Will be visiting again soon!

As a regular route 5,30, and 38, I was a little dismayed when I saw that they were changing to brightside, but I was willing to give it a go... this is where it gets disappointing. I had pancakes and bacon with maple syrup. I thought I got a kids' menu portion 3 rashers of streaky bacon and 3 pancakes with a small milk jug of mapel syrup... I think this was close to £10.. and to be fair if it was any good it would have been on, but it's was nothing to write home about.. my wife enjoyed her burger and my son had pancakes off the kids menu and got 3 pancakes with strawberries and blueberries I think and his was half the price of mine... I'm disappointed that the route franchise has gone as and brightside ( not so bright ) has taken over....

The food was not great; the salads were old and not in the best condition for eating. The service was not bad, apart from the fact that they forgot to serve all the food that had been ordered in the empty restaurant. This would be understandable during rush hour when the restaurant is full, not when only a few tables had people sitting at the time. It might be that we were the unlucky ones, but from a restaurant with not that cheap prices you would expect more.

Not happy at all we’re greeted by rude staff nothing I wanted was available and got the feeling we were very much unwelcome will not be returning again and the staff laughed as we left!! Great Father’s Day meal cheers!! Didn’t even eat

Renovated to replicate a 1950-69's diner - with great success. Very atmospheric. Thankfully, the menu was more up to date. Can recommend the all day breakfast!

Just wanted to write about my experience in here yesterday late morning 06/06 having breakfast here with my partner and toddler to overhear a customer shouting in the what I assume was the managers face (quite literally) about apparently being done for ‘fraud’ which was absolute nonsense for a small mistake and this it was disgusting how he treated her. Just wanted to say how well she handled it and what an absolute idiot the customer was speaking to a woman/anyone in that manner! Ps lovely food and customer service was great will definitely return :)

Brightside diner haldon hill is our favourite place to eat. Love the decor, the food is always perfect, the vibe, the staff are all lovely and welcoming! We were blown away by Dan, the Manager’s random act of kindness on our anniversary….thank you Dan! 🙏🏽 He, along with all the staff also dealt so well with an awkward and loud customer. Highly recommend this Diner!!

A great place for a food-stop. Good set of choices, with a menu that varies through the day. Service was a little patchy though. I was given a dessert menu after my main-course, but nobody came to see if I wanted anything.

After the first visit that was awful I was contacted and we were given a voucher to try again, unfortunately again it was equally awful, we ordered a pepperoni pizza and an all day breakfast, the pizza was barely cooked and you could pour the oil of it one bite and that was done with, poor effort when a pizza can’t be cooked properly, the breakfast was ok in parts, bacon was ok and the mushroom was ok, overall bland tho and accompanied by budget beans nothing to praise, the sausage was rock hard where it had been I’m guessing sat in a warmer for a couple days, the voucher wouldn’t work and after half an hour of messing about and having to register it online that made no difference as I’d already pointed out to the staff they found a way around it, the staff were good up until that point but a lack of training for issues was clear. Won’t be stopping again

Brilliant place, they've got the whole American diner down 100%. Service was very prompt and polite, fantastic menu including some interesting twists on classics. We had two brightside eggs with Hollandaise and salmon, I've paid a lot more for this and got a lot less in the past, faultless. Highly recommended independent eatery.

This is the worst servis I have ever had,the food took so long to come I walked out,staff looked a mess, other people looked the way I felt waiting for there food one couple had the wrong order,it was a complete f--kup

For a roadside cafe, it's very good. Really good vegetarian and vegan options.

Visited today for the first time. Fantastic place and tasty food, we’ll be back! A great selection of gluten free food, I was actually really spoilt for choice. So pleased that I wasn’t just stuck with the usual choice of jacket potato or gammon and chips (yawn). Fabulously different with the brown and orange diner decor, parquet flooring and avocado sinks and toilets, totally loved it, it was like stepping back in time. The staff were lovely, just the right amount of friendly, and the service was speedy. The whole place had character and the food was awesome, and reasonably priced too! A memorable cafe / diner, when so many are not. Would highly recommend.

Doesn’t look much from outside and the general services’ area could do with being tidied up but don’t be fooled, this is a cute little place - quite the Diner-style - with a nice selection of pizza, burgers, more traditional dishes, nice drinks menu and thick shakes. We stopped on the off-chance on a random Wednesday night and it was ticking over nicely with a few customers. Plenty of parking available when we arrived. Friendly staff, quick order and good music played which made for a nice atmosphere. Dog friendly too by all accounts!

We recently broke down on our way to Devon and honestly this place was a life saver. The people were so accommodating and made us feel welcome. We had a couple of hours here waiting for a recovery company with a young baby and a dog. The staff, especially the manager, couldn't do enough for us. We had the day from hell but being able to get here made it more barable. The food was good and a reasonable price. Thank you!! 😊

Lovely food but slow service from young staff clearly untrained in how to deal with customers spoilt the experience. Our "Thank you" addressed to several servers standing at the till as we were leaving was met with blank stares, no response.

Brilliant stop for journey to Cornwall. Breakfast was really good, had kids toys/books/colouring. Atmosphere was nice. Healthy breakfast options and a free babychino for our toddler. Added bonus of a super fast charger for EV lovers. Will definitely be stopping on the way back!

Food could have been a little hotter, but plenty of it for the money, service ok plenty clean, plenty of seating and parking.

Thought would try here as I enjoyed it very much as an American diner beforehand I was excited to try the champion breakfast it explained 2 sausages 2 eggs roasted potatoes! And was keen but to my shock it came out in a bowl looking like someone had chewed it up for me I had no need for a knife The food was amazing but in a bowl chopped up and £13.95 I was heart broken and left still hungry

We were driving by and decided to stop for breakfast The decor and atmosphere was great and so original! Food was absolutely delicious and the menu had so many options that we struggled choosing 1 Service was very efficient and friendly! Will definitely recommend and hope there will be one opening closer to us, In Gloucestershire one day!

What a great place, like going back in time, in a good way, decor is amazing with fab attention to detail, even the toilets, yes can’t believe I got excited about the avocado suites. food and service is great

Infinitely better than the previous Route Establishment

I was going to give this place a solid four stars, because, you know, it isn't the Ritz or anything..... then I viewed it from the angle that it is a main road-side eatery, and one's expectations are different. And I can't fault it, so 5 stars it is for the roadside diner. Interior decor is spectacularly different, with a really nice 50s feel. Very clean, very welcoming. Very friendly service, food is very good and fairly priced by any standards. We will definitely be coming back.

Food was overpriced compared to what we got. Tables where way too squized one to each other in the middle rows. Menu is very poor, there is not much what you can choose in there. Me and my family where very disappointed. We expected more from American style dinner.

On a busy Mother's Day the staff coped perfectly with the rush and with our allergy needs. The whole concept is 1970 themed with comfortable booth's to sit in and soft warm lighting. A soft pink ceiling set off with enclosed coving uplighting. Then in the toilets, blast from the past! Avocado Green sanitary ware with a modern twist. Must not forget the food. A surprising interesting menu something for everyone, especially for me with egg and dairy allergy, that most restaurants are very poor at. The food was beautifully presented and was very tasty. The young children at our table had large paper colouring mats, along with a pack of crayons. They both enjoyed their meals and icecream sundaes. The waiting staff enjoyed dressing in their vintage clothing, a really fun experience 😀

Just like an 80s diner experience! Great friendly service. 5* quality food: Ice cream Sundaes were lush. Bacon was very salty which was delicious. Presentation was lovely. Accepts dogs. Ample parking. Clean toilets.

Very disappointed had to take my coffee back 3 times as it was cold, was not impressed at all loved the Rout 34/Rout 66 shame they closed Atmosphere not the same .

Extortionate prices for measly meals. Food was very bland and lovely and cold. Was also delighted to find a couple of hairs too.

Bit slow when it wasn't that busy, the waiter took our desert order and left our used plates on the table. Food was as expected from a roadside diner.

A very nice Diner, brings back the feels of the old days of places like little chef. The food is delicious, the ham egg and chips was very nice. Staff have always been friendly when I've visited and if you're after a food break on your journey it's an ideal place to visit.

What a great place to stop and have a bite to eat. Such an improvement on the old place. Food was excellent, service excellent and it is lovely place to sit and watch the world go by or, as I did, grab a bite to eat and do some work between meetings. Highly recommended.

Loved this restaurant. Great for a breakfast on the way to Exeter. Staff were friendly and as my partner is gluten intolerant and didn’t want toast they figured out a way to make it cheaper by doing add ons to my breakfast. Great coffee too. Reminiscent of the old ‘happy eater’ that used to be just over the road 😋

Dust on the lamps above the table, no one came to ask was everything OK with the meal and once I asked for the bill, the first words were ' would you like to leave a tip' . I will be going back again because the food is excellent 👌
