Came from the west midlands for holiday. And I must say the fish and chips was fresh and curry sauce was excellent..100% recommend this chip shop.

Fish and chips are a rare treat for me now due to health reasons but a treat in a while is something to look forward to , The fish and chips from here have done me a favour , they were so disappointing I won’t be wanting them again in a long time . Thin scrappy chips , Greasy crunchy batter covering thin squashy fish .

Chips wasn't that crispy, fish wasn't very white but overall a nice tasting meal along with good prices

Used this place twice while on holiday at Dawlish Sands. Nice little friendly chippie shop. Good food at reasonable prices. Gets very busy which shows how popular it is.

Busy fish and chips shop but the food was good. There are gluten free options too which was nice to see. Gets pretty busy, but worth the wait for a traditional meal.

We had Cod and Chips with mushy peas on the 26th August and it was all beautiful. Large chips between us was plenty and the Cod was beautifully cooked, certainly the best at the Warren.

The portion sizes were small and then I had to throw half of the chips away because of how black they were. They were cooked to order so I’m unsure how and why the food tasted so old and greasy? Wouldn’t return. Deans place a little further on is much better and fresh big portions

We visited for fish and chips and battered sausage on a sunny evening. Perfectly cooked and came in a nice paper bag so we could keep the beach tidy after we had eaten. Throughly delicious

Really tasty fish and chip supper. We had plaice and haddock which were beautifully crispy and tasted just as they should. Congratulations.

Have been here a few times, as we visit Dawlish Warren every year. Always excellent, but I have to say the jumbo battered sausage, chips and curry sauce, we got about 6pm on Saturday, was the best ever. Thank you.

We visit Dawlish Warren every year, and always visit the Chip Thief, and it is always good. We went on Saturday night, about 6pm,and got three lots of jumbo battered sausage,chips and curry sauce. Have to say it was the best ever, so thank you very much.

This is the best fish & chip shop in Dawlish warren the fish are huge and the chip was delicious definitely worth a visit 10/10

Super friendly staff, great food.

I have been to this take out a few times love the last couple of years. The service has always been brilliant and the food excellent. Cooked to order and not a problem on the waiting time. The people who run it are totally honest, great service.

Paid £24 for 2 large cod along with 1 portion of chips and 1 small tub of mushy peas the fish was perfect, but was sadly let down by the chips which were very poor quality, although the portion size was large enough the chips themselves were very small lots of burnt bits and not very hot, overall only 6 out of ten, will not be returning.

Great fish and chips and great prices, worth the wait when they are busy.

Genuinely might be the best fish and chips I’ve had.

Food was lovely but ordered large & regular fish & they were both same size. Also ordered chips separately &, they put them both with fish which meant as my husband doesn't like fish he couldn't eat them.

Excellent place! I organised a school trip to Dawlish Warren. We ordered over 60 portions for the children in advance. The place was very accommodating and had everything ready for us when we arrived. They even helped to carry the food over into the Green for the children. Good food, friendly staff. I would definitely recommend it.

First time tonight getting food from the chip their myself and husband were very impressed. Batter is thin and light chips spot on and curry sauce amazing. Both chaps very polite and welcoming.

Ordered regular chips with a jumbo sausage and curry sauce chips were nice however portion size very very small couldn’t feed a 2 year old regular chips and you can see half of the bottom of the box ; knew it would be a small portion when the person serving shakes the box

The chip thief is one of my family’s favourite local restaurants / takeaways - the food is always delicious and the staff are very friendly. It’s also easily accessible and there is some free parking spots right outside so there’s no excuse not to stop for some chips 😁 It gets very busy and popular in summertime and although it closes for a short period period in winter , we always look forward to going again when it reopens - a fantastic local chip shop 🍟

Website says open every day. Went there on a Monday only to find its closed. Sign on window says only open Wednesday- Saturday. Again website says 4:30 opening but again not open till 5. Seems to be open whenever they want to.

Best chip shop around here, worth the drive from Dawlish.

We were staying in Dawlish warren so went here to get our evening fish and chips. Service was a bit slow, but the fish and chips were amazing. Would not hesitate in returning if we were in the area again. Highly recommended

On holiday looking for some fish and chips, tried this establishment and it was fantastic, food great and fish top quality

£3.50 for what they call a large portion of chips is a joke. Barely enough to feed a small child ive had to go back out and get another bag elsewhere to feed 2 of us. Disgusting portion sizes.

First time here, tried all in Dawlish, this is tastier, will definitely come here again

Came here around 25 to 9 and got chips and a large sausage. Piping hot and absolutely delicious. The server(A young blonde lad) asked if I wanted salt and vinegar and put some in before closing and shaking the box (which is a must to distribute the salt and vinegar). Walked down to the sea wall where I sat and ate, still hot, non soggy chips, I would definetly visit again.

Really, really nice chips.. but to wait 20mins is beyond the joke, come on its not difficult to serve. 1 star for service

Best chippy in the area by some way, and also far cheaper than those closer to the holiday sites.

We had beautiful cod from here last year, but alas, this year I have paid for two large cod, that were literally 50% batter. Now I am not stupid, I know there is a cost of living squeeze (which is why I understand the small price increase from last year, but just look at the photo). Not a happy bunny and won't be returning, overpriced and definitely overhyped.

Always quite busy, you place your order and wait outside for your number to be called, doesn't take long. Rated by my son as the best chips and jumbo sausage in dawlish warren

Food always good, gets busy and long wait times if you go at peak times in summer. 4-4.30PM seems best for quietest early times to avoid longer queues, quietens down later. Best chippy in Dawlish Warren.

Not the worst fish and chips but far from the best. Really couldn't understand the 20 minute wait. There were 25+ people who had queued and paid and just waiting to collect food but they seemed to be frying one order at a time !

Turned up at 6.55pm on a Tuesday night. Waited 20 mins for a large chips costing £3.50. They have never been a large chip. I would say a small chips at best, in a box. Walking back to the campsite we decided that there would never be enough. So called into Warren chippy and ordered regular chips which we got straight away for £2.60 and got double the amount. Also what I would call proper chip shop chips. The chip thief certainly lives by its name. Won’t be going back. The few chips we got weren’t great either!

First of two fantastic blokes giving great service. The chippy looked like it was short staffed much like most places at the moment advertising for staff. We order a large order and everything was great aside I felt the fish wasn’t the best I’ve have. By far not the worst fish so please don’t be put off overall a great chippy

Food was good, fish was excellent and very tasty. Chips are good, probably have some of your own salt and vinegar ready as they don't use much vinegar. You pay for sauce

Great batter on fish! Really tasty

Massive portions and nice modern facilities. However, the chips were scraps of chips. The end bits. The longest we found was 2cm. All of the chip bits had black marks or eyes. It was as though they used all the bits that would normally/should be thrown away. The fish was huge, but again, the batter was chewy, thick and very dark. When the batter was removed the fish was very dry as though it had been under ights for too long. Very disappointed! Won't be going back!

Edible but not good. More batter than fish and not flaky like cod used to be from here (everytime we came to welcome Family we use it) . Small amount of chips for a large portion as well. Spent £40 and unfortunately won't be spending it here again. Nice staff tho!

Went to Devon for a weekend break. The Chip Thief did not disappoint. It was amazing, even the children loved it. I didn't think any Chip shop could beat Dad's Lane in Birmingham, but the Chip Thief is definitely a place to eat. I ate there on more than two occasions. The fish is yummy 😋, and the children's meals are value for money! Thank you for your customer service and amazing food.

Ordered a standard size portion of chips with jumbo battered sausage and that's what I got! Good size portion of chips for the money, nicely cooked and not soaking with oil but not dry, either. The service was excellent; friendly and polite. Hygiene and tidiness was good, too. I would definitely recommend 👌

Firstly I should have known better. Went in last night about 20 mins before they closed, told me immediately that they weren't cooking anymore food and I could only have what was precooked. I had 2 Pies with chips and a curry sauce. The pies cost £4.25 each, the pastry wasn't edible, hard as a rock. Chips were cold and overcooked. Got the one star for the curry sauce, terrible value for money, there is better in the Warren, never again....avoid!!!!
