Brierley Hop House in Dudley

Food arrived cold. Three drinks arrived incorrectly. Useless staff. Overpriced and not worth it. Would not visit again.

Came here with a few of the lads and had a blast . Customer service was was on point and service was quick and consistent thanks to Ellie on the bar that night.

Came in here for food and drinks the bar staff were very welcoming especially the lady called chloe very professional and polite can't fault anything very nice food and very good service

Had a lovely meal here recently, the food was delicious. Staff are lovely, we had a chat with Ellie who recommended one of the meals we purchased. We will be returning for another meal soon.

Awful food. Day old Hunters Chicken which must have been reheated. Dry and hard. Soggy batter on fish. Batter on tinned mushrooms like bullets Old brown lettuce as garnish !!!!! Terrible experience No appropriate adult on duty just 3 kids laughing and giggling behind bar. Paid no attention to us at all Realise now why we were the only patrons ….. makes sense Pity we had to pay upfront 1 March Since making this post and leaving numerous messages ….. Tanya has made not effort Disappointed

This was our third time to Brierley Hill Hophouse in the last few weeks. Each time the staff have been polite, helpful and welcoming to me and my family. Really enjoyed the pool and darts available on site and a few beers 👍

Aaron being our server, was absolutely fantastic, treated my dog like royalty, so so friendly food was fantastic and drinks served so quickly! Highly recommend!

Friendly staff and food is well cooked and nice, although it does take a while to come even on a quiet day. The have a pool table and a dart board, which we fancied a go at (darts), unfortunately on the two days in a row we came around lunch time, the same two lads were playing for a very long time and hardly buying anything. They seem to have just utilised the pub to just play darts with little to no spending. Leaving proper paying customer who fancy a go unable too as they are glued to it. Fair play to the lads playing, but, the staff should maybe be more aware of people taking over the board for hours and hardly buying anything apart from one drink and small chips when they first entered. Hopefully, next time we visit it won't be taken over.

Popped in here as I was staying locally for work and was really impressed, good pint and the chicken tikka masala was really tasty, compliments to the chef who I think was called Michelle. Great meal and will definitely return!

Enjoyed the saturday night dj and went back day after for some food which was really nice as left my coat there, was served by harry who was such a well mannered and polite kid and kept my jacket safe for me

There's just something special about this place — it feels like a great local spot that truly captures the essence of the community. I have to give a shoutout to Harry, who was behind the bar during my visit. He was an absolute gem! His friendly demeanor and extensive knowledge about the drinks made the experience even more enjoyable. Harry took the time to recommend a few of his favorites based on what I like, and he was spot on. It's clear he genuinely enjoys what he does and cares about making sure everyone has a great time. If you’re looking for a welcoming atmosphere and fantastic service, the Brierley Hop House, especially with Harry at the helm, is the place to be!

Amazing place to have a few pints and the food is great, Harry, the barman, is a friendly guy and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great night on Saturday.

Popped into Brierley Hop House for a meal and was seriously impressed. The food was spot on—full of flavour and cooked to perfection. You can tell Chef Michelle puts real heart into it. Great atmosphere, lovely staff—will definitely be back!

Me and my husband just had our wedding reception here in there function room just upstairs. It was absolutely amazing and the staff made sure everything went smoothly and helped us where ever they could. Big thank you to Tanya and the team and a big shout out to Aaron who regularly checked if we needed anything and Michelle for putting together such a beautiful buffet for us. Can't recommend these guys enough they were awesome!

Opened late. Smashed glass all over the floor outside the front door. Ice was dirty … !! Cleaner/owner/chef/god knows, walking round in pyjamas. Walked in and walked out, won’t be back.

Rip off drinks. . We had for drinks the other night and they charged £1-60 for a splash of coke in a expensive vodka shocking,fell totally ripped off and want be returning to be ripped off again.

I don’t know where to start! These guys are amazing! I had a suprise party in for my partners 30th this evening and from the get go Tanya was amazing! Offering to help where she could nothing was too much for her! She really went above and beyond and was so lovely and down to earth!! Honestly I can’t sing your praises enough Tanya Lucas Thank you for all of the help you gave me throughout the day and evening! What an amazing venue and team you have!! will definitely be back 10000% and reccomending you to all family and friends ❤️ thank you so much for making our night so special I appreciate it so much ❤️ xx

Nice pub, Great atmosphere and excellent location

Great place with really friendly staff and service. The food was glorious...Best veggie burger I've had by far, Elle did a great job.

Went in on Sunday (we had booked).only a few people in there eating we still had to wait almost an hour and half for our food. No interaction or explanation by the staff! Won’t be visiting again which is a shame as it used to be quite good.

Came with family who were visiting the area for a few days. Popped in for a drink and then decided to have some food that evening as we had seen the meals brought down for the table next to us and they looked lovely. We were not disappointed - we had a variety of food from the menu, including starters and a dessert, but my brother was most impressed with the veggie burger as he sometimes struggles with vegetarian pub food. Lovely service from very pleasant staff - would definitely recommend

The hop house is a great friendly environment I would definitely like to come to again! The food was outstanding and the lady who brought it down ( Ellie) was very polite pronounced the food to the whole table so we could hear which food had came down, asked us if she could get anything else for us and came back and did a check back 5 minutes after all the food has came down. I will definitely be returning here with family and friends!

We arrived at 14.25pm, and the staff were only just putting the menus out & proceeded to say they were starting late today. There were only 3 people sitting, which were all staff. My son went to the bar and ordered our drinks & asked if food would be long. The staff member said, "It will come when it's ready "! 2 of the drinks smelt & tasted funny, so I took them back to the bar. The member of staff, oh, I've been off a week, so I'm not sure why! What I presume was a member of staff in the sitting area shouted across "which pump did you use, you need to use the one at the end of the bar." At this, I asked for our money back and left. Couldn't trust the food to be edible.

Went there yesterday for food and it was good pub grub and stayed on for the disco amazing DJ was a lovely evening

Update: visited July 2021. Good pub grub, Hunter's chicken was bostin. order at bar style of service. Quick service from friendly welcoming staff. Nice beer. Was busy when I visited. A very lively bar with a vast selection of lagers, Cider and cask ales. Was very busy when I visited. Didn't eat on this occasion, however the menu has a good selection of budget friendly meals.

Really disappointed with today's visit. Staff we're pretty miserable. We waited over an hour for food, there were only 2 other tables in altogether so you'd expect a quicker food service. When the food came it was under-cooked and we couldn't eat it. Safe to say, sadly, we will not be returning 😞

We have just got home from my daughters hen party we went to Brierley hill hop there were 15 of us to start with as we had hen and hen together for food which was lovely the serving staff were friendly we spent over £300 then once had food we split up, we went to the till to get cocktails asked if they could substitute Vodka for something else as I am allergic to Vodka as all the cocktails had Vodka in except 1 which I didn’t like , they said no but then said they could do it if I paid for something else to go in I was a bit disappointed as most pubs would change , I then walked away and one our group was paying for drinks and they started laughing at me and saying oh she’s allergic to Vodka and taking the Micky out of me I was very upset that is no way to treat customers disgusting, 1 of the bridesmaids then went up to have a word with the manager but they weren’t in she had a word with bar manager who said they couldn’t change because of policy and stocktake and that we had to pay to substitute so I didn’t have a cocktail , then we went on to buy to normal pitchers of cocktails that the manager said were 13.50 each but charged us £29.80 for 2 pitchers, absolutely disgusting service and spoilt our night . We actually packed up our bridal party all the decorations and left and went to Wetherspoons they were completely different and so friendly and accommodating. Mrs Bradley

Booked a specific table for a birthday. They promised that they would fulfill the order. But when we arrived, they gave us a random table and we had to leave this place, the service was a tragedy.

There were approx 3 tables already occupied when we arrived so we were surprised to hear there would be a 1 hour wait for food but we accepted this and placed order (although unfortunately no steaks) After 90 minutes I queried where our food was and was told "it's being prepared now". A lady who I believe to be the manager said that they had only been there 4 days, didn't have a chef and said all she had been doing that evening was apologising. Not very professional really. We then waited a further 30 minutes for our food, then another 5 minutes for cutlery to eat it with. The guy who brought the food apologised for the delay. Bearing in mind we were waiting for 2 hours for our food at no point were we kept up to date, the only time we were given an update was when I asked. There was no real apology given apart from the guy who delivered the food. All in all a very disappointing evening. I attended with 2 colleagues and we are from Plymouth so not used to Marstons in our area. After last night's experience it has definitely deterred me from trying any more. Disappointing is probably the best I can offer as a description of our evening

Went here for our dinner 4 of us it was terrible. Not a sole in there service was rubbish expensive cold in there furniture very wobbly staff very thin only two on.told we would have to wait 30min for our food as the cook has to unload the delivery first. Keep away if I was you

This place has had its day unfortunately. The food is just really poor quality and the portion sizes are tiny.. It was always such a lovely place. The tills don't work. Don't bother going for the "kids eat for £1" because despite their own website advertising it, they don't offer it when you get there. The lady serving was nice, but won't return due to the poor quality food.

The website boasted of a deal to get kids meals for £1 with an adult meal so I signed up for the voucher for my 2 young children and booked to attend today. The terms and conditions on the voucher email stated that it was valid from 1st July to the 30th August Monday - Friday (with absolutely no mention of excluding bank Holidays). When I tried to use it firstly I was told no we don't have voucher codes then with persistents they looked and found it on the till, but it didn't take the money off so I went back to be rudly told that it excludes bank holidays and shown the terms and conditions of a completely different deal. If it does exclude bank holidays then that's false advertising. If it doesn't then your staff should be aware of what deals are being advertised.

"This tap is off, this tap is off, we have no steak, no mixed grill, and no fish." Great, glad we paid for parking which is now not refundable because we can't order anything! 😂 EDIT: In regards to the reply below... yes, it may have been out of the owner's control... but there was still no food regardless.

Planning to visit this establishment as it is a couple of miles from my home.....so of course I know the area very well.... I always look at the reviews before I visit... to ascertain vibes of an establishment.... A sound investment before a visit....but I was always make up my own mind.... If you are good....your review will be good.... Anything else.... TBC.... 😁

Had a blinder at The hop house. The food was proper tasty – every dish was bang on and cooked a treat. Loads of options on the menu, so there’s somethin’ for everyone. Spot on for a chat with your mates. The staff were dead friendly and made sure we was sorted. Ellie and the land lady were friendly smiley and made us feel at home If you’re after great nosh and a laid-back vibe, give the hop house a butcher's. We'll be back for sure, no two ways about it!

Their website boasts 'cask ales' but of the four hand pumps only one was working - 'Wainrights' , how unimaginative. Very disappointed with the beers so didn't hang around.

Perhaps slightly generous giving it 3, maybe 2 would be better. A bit disappointed personally. Staff were polite enough when speaking to them face to face , and the food was good quality especially the steak. However when I asked for mustard with the condiments, I was told they only had American. This is a rookie mistake as you always have English mustard with steak. Me and my partner also came in early Saturday afternoon where only a handful of customers were in, yet at no point did either of the staff make an effort to ask anyone for feedback, ask how the food was, saying thanks for coming when we left, and seemed generally apathetic in interacting with their customers, almost as if they weren’t particularly bothered. I hadn’t been for a while, but I’m usually welcomed by a friendly middle-aged lady rather than the two relatively younger bar staff who were on. I don’t know if she was on holiday or if the place has changed hands, and like I said the food was delicious and I will come again when in the area, but this is not a place in a position to moan about the cost of living crisis or being taken over by AI robots unless there is improvement

I’m unsure who the owner is or who lives in the building however they leave a dog stuck in the courtyard for several hours a day which continuously barks, this can be heard throughout the day and you seem to have no thought for your dog or anyone else in the area.

Very disappointed I booked a table for 7 people it was for my 50th birthday. I live in Bristol so travel for 1hr half to get there . I couldn't believe it when the lift for coming down the stairs was blocked with chairs Then we finally seat down to be told there was no mixed grill no fish no chips one rump steak. By this time I didn't know weather to laugh or cry . The young girl was helpful I will say that .

Lovely place, nice meal, nice friendly staff, I recommend this place. When you pay parking outside it is reimbursed at bar.

The atmosphere here is lovely and lovely surroundings being on the canal. We were made aware when asking if we could order food that there would be a 30 minute wait time, which was absolutely fine with us and it was nice and very professional to be told this beforehand. Whilst you do have to pay for parking this is discounted off your food bill which is also good, there is also plenty of signs to say you need to pay for parking which is good so theres no misunderstanding. The food when it arrived was absolutely delicious, well cooked and great temperature. Overall a wonderful experience and I will be returning and telling others recommending the hop house. Thank you for a great experience.

I have been here a few times with friends on a Saturday night and always have a good time, the atmosphere is always spot on the staff are always great for a laugh and us girls always feel safe, this week I attended a family party upstairs - never been upstairs before it was great. The room is beautiful and nice to see Jack up there. I had no idea how great the room was, I knew it was there but really had no idea how great it was another plus for the Hop House and thanks to Jack I had another great night. The girls and I are back at the end of the month for Danny P see you soon Hop House

Don’t believe everything you read! Having read three reviews on here about a party I attended I felt I had to comment on my own experience. The young man behind the bar did a fantastic job which was to his credit. Some of the attendees treated him appallingly. Bar staff are not there to be shouted at just because they can’t serve 10 people at once or they don’t have the drink you require. I witnessed, on more than one occasion, him being spoken to in a rude and sometimes aggressive manner and he did not on those occasions swear at that customer so I find it hard to believe he would speak to someone in that way without provocation. Well done to the management in standing up for their employee

i am absolutely appalled and disgusted at a party I went to at the hop house on Saturday night it was my neices engagement party and the bar man (jack) was disgusting his language was terrible, I had my 15 year old step daughter with me and I do not appreciate him using the language he did in front of her, he had a attitude when we first walked in the party, I asked for a water i was told i had to go down stairs for that so i had a tonic water, i asked for a glass and i was told i couldnt have a glass the straws were on the bar but he did not say this nicely at all. At the end of the night at 11.45 the same lad came over to us to hurry up and f*****g drink our drinks, i was so shocked with what he said and how he was and I do not appreciate the language in front of my step daughter. I think he needs a new job maybe not in a bar if that is how he is going to speak to customers. As we were leaving the party I heard him shouting at Mitch who is marrying my neice telling him to get the F**k out the pub, we left the pub....... I'm aware there was a heated exchange after speaking to my sister yesterday between jack and Mitch but I heard Jack shouting and swearing as I said earlier I think he needs a new job not in a bar !!!!!!!! I will never come into the pub again if that is how the bar staff are with customers and i advise any one else not to......

Went to engagement party an the bar mans attitude was discusting .my hubbys beer smelt vile and tasted nasty so he told the young bar man and he said very cocky well no1 else as complained ,he never smelt the glass or appologised ,he was also rude to other guests throughtout the night and at the end of it he told the engagement couple &family to get the f**k out when all the were doin was cleaning up after the party and trying 2 leave room tidy,the manager wasnt much better with her attitude either and later find out this was his mom .never again will i go back there .

We attended an engagement party on Saturday night…..we were at the bar ordering our first drink, when another party member approached the bar (who we didn’t know), he asked the bartender what time food would be served, his reply was ‘it’s not my f******g party, how do I know!’ I was completely gobsmacked by the comment but thought that the two may have known one another!?! Turns out, they didn’t! I was also witness to the bartender shouting… it’s 12 o’clock, can you all get the f**k out, throwing his arms in the air! Again, I was totally shocked because people were indeed tidying up after the party! Donna, If this was your Son, I strongly suggest you speak to him regarding his obnoxious attitude as this behaviour will only generate terrible publicity for you in the future. I don’t frequent this pub anyway but will certainly be telling friends and family about my experience here, felt so sorry for the newly engaged couple and their family who had to endure this experience.

Had my husband's 40th in their function room upstairs. Donna and the team were great! Thanks to Mathew the DJ too! We all had a brilliant night. Highly recommended using the Hop House for all kinds of celebrations!

I have been using the hop house regularly at weekends for over twelve months now and always find a good friendly service however busy they are with good food and easy parking great in the summer with an outside area over looking the waterfront

Great location, parking. And general all round service here. Come here several times a year for fishing events in the area and the manager Donna and the staff always go out there way, whether it's breakfast, making sure we register parking, and now we always come in after for some food before a long drive home, over the last 4 years we've been 12 times and always been a pleasure.
