One of the best cafes I've been to in a while. Lively wee cozy cafe with a brilliant shop attached! Food was delicious and super filling, 10/10 recommend the croissant with ham and cheese, the salad is the best I've ever had, seasoning was delish. Only negative was that the menu asked for you to look at the blackboard for some options of drink, however they weren't written up anywhere I could see. Also very animal friendly which I think is amazing!

In response to the owner's response to my wife's justified review: 1. No, we didn't miss the big box that mentions dietary requirements, it is the first thing we look for when visiting any restaurant, obviously. 2. Your gluten free bread option is 'Genius' which contains egg. I saw this on the worktop behind you on the day and this was the reason I could not choose any 'gluten free' sandwich options. 3. Asking for vegan implies dairy free. 4. You stated 'we have two gluten free soups'. 5. We asked what the 'special stack' for the day was, and your response was 'there is no special stack'. The 'special stack' is in a big unmissable box on the menu. Your apathetic response to the review confirms your attitude we experienced on the day.

I had been looking forward to a trip to the Cafe after following them on Facebook for a while. We travelled from Fife on our way to Aberdeen via the cafe. My husband has gluten and dairy intolerances and there was nothing marked on the menu as gluten free. When he went to ask they said 'yes we have gluten free bread'. He then asked if the mayo was vegan and they man serving us sighed and went to check. He said the soup was gluten free so my husband said he would have the vegetable soup, he then told him it had barley in it so actually it wasn't gluten free. My husband ended up having nothing. The man was rude. I was so disappointed after looking forward to coming for a long time.

Very unclean staff... and not very nice! The table was dirty... filthy really. One of the waitresses was walking around petting customers' dogs, and so I watched her. Just to see how unsanitary things were. Sure enough, she ended up filling orders and taking sandwiches out of the display case with her unwashed, dog dander contaminated hands. BEWARE! This place is filthy! Where is the Ministry of Health inspectors?

The value for money at Bridge House Cafe was good. We had a nice meal and drinks there. The service was nice and helpful. Next to the café there is a nice shop that you can visit through the café. The food was served fairly quickly. Conclusion: Bridge House Cafe offers a good dining experience with friendly and helpful service. The presence of an adjacent shop adds extra charm. The value for money and fast service make it well worth a visit.

The service was very disappointing but not as disappointing as the food which was tasteless, it isn't that hard to make these basic sandwiches, the bacon was tough and tasted like it had been cooking for days, but they make it an artform. What disappoints the most is the cleanliness which really wasn't good, dirty cups, tops of the cans covered it shows they don't care.

I have to say, this was disappointing. I ordered the ‘special’ which was a BLT flatbread. The bacon used was what I would describe as thick ‘cooking bacon’ and was very fatty and almost gammon-y tasting, which was not pleasant. One of the easiest ways to judge a cafe or restaurant is on how they cook their bacon - here it was certainly a let down. The tomatoes again, were too thick and had clearly been left lying for a while as they were exceedingly watery and the plate was wet from their juice! This made the flatbread all wet which was not a pleasant texture at all. The soggy bread was oozing and dripping liquid every time I picked it up, which was really not appetising. There were two little lettuce leafs on there as well, which I don’t think particularly meets the lettuce quota. Overall, I just don’t think this sandwich works - BLT is all about crispiness - crisp bacon, crisp fresh lettuce and tomatoes. By serving it hot and as a pressed panini, it just made the whole thing soggy and well, not crispy. The amount of salad was overkill and came dressed with a pungent dressing, which is always going to lead to some people not enjoying it - a waste. As my friend who ordered the same said, ‘the crisps were nice’. I think that’s about sums up the mediocre experience. Along with this, I had the berry smoothie, which was nice, although a little thinner than I had been expecting for a ‘smoothie’, rather than a juice. It could have perhaps done with being sieved too, as by the time I got to the bottom, it was like drinking grit due to the volume of seeds that had settled at the bottom. There was a distinct vinegary smell about the place too. I’m not entirely sure where this was emanating from. Overall, a disappointing visit. Hopefully this feedback can be of some use to the owners, however.

Terrible service from a very rude young girl, with a Terrible attitude, that got our order wrong, which wasn't a massive deal but when told that one of the drinks was wrong she just said "fine"and stormed off to change it. Food so bad I couldn’t eat any of it. Ordered the cream of mushroom soup, which was the soup of the day. NOT GOOD FOR TOURISTS. There’s an older woman at the front desk who runs the restaurant and is so awful! We came in at 4 pm (and they close at 5). The older woman said they were only doing take out to us because it was close to closing time. The moment we started speaking to each other to order take out she said “actually we are closed. Go on”. And basically PUSHED us out of the restaurant. How extremely rude and disrespectful. I have never experienced such awful service. It is quite obvious we do not live in the area so that is my only explanation for her discriminatory behavior, unless she is a racist. Considering how horrible she was, I would not recommend dining here to anyone. We went to The Balmoral Bar, and the service was a hundred times better.

Very Poor Quality Cooked Breakfasts. Probably the worst vegetarian breakfast ever. One egg overcooked. One egg undercooked. Sausage resembled Fray Bentos . Beans of the cheapest kind as was the tomato ketchup. Cafe empty. More staff than customers. Staff used thus as an excuse to talk loudly to each other with no consideration for their clients. I was absolutely astonished by the rudeness of the male staff member working today and to be honest it totally ruined our experience. I didn't realise the food on the menu was pre-made so asked for a baguette with 3 ingredients not realising it would be a problem. When the young girl at the til advised me that they didn't have what I asked for, I asked if it was possible to have it made it and she said no which is fine. I then asked what did they have available for vegetarians thinking that because they were pre-made they might not have everything available as it was getting later on in the day. She asked the gentleman making the food what was available for vegetarians and he walked away while mumbling something under his breath, went through the back, and then shouted through ITS ALL ON THE MENU in a disgruntled way. I was so taken aback. Talk about good customer service during the festive period wow. The poor girl at the til had to then apologise for his behaviour after seeing how I had not taken kindly to his rudeness. The food is fine. Nothing special. Very limited menu and very overpriced for what it is. Had my Dad not been extremely hungry I would have walked out after being spoken to like that. I am all for supporting local small business but there's absolutely no way I would return. The customer service was lacking throughout. Watching the female server interact with other customers she also appeared irked by the existence of people in the cafe. Perhaps if you don't like the general public your business shouldn't be based on providing a service to them!

In summary, the worst breakfast I've ever ordered! Overpriced, stingy and luke warm. One egg, one tattie scone, one sausage, one slice of toast and half a raw tomato for ten quid (the photo tells the entire sad story). We both left still feeling hungry, which is the opposite of what you'd have hoped from a cooked breakfast - we ended up stopping at the Bothy in Braemar afterwards as we were still hungry (wish we'd went here for breakfast instead and can highly recommend here as an alternative to Bridge House!!). No beans or mushrooms, and excluding the toast that you'd expect as standard with any breakfast, there were only three and a half items on the plate! A pack of six tattie scones is 90p, box of six eggs £1.50, four pack of veggie lorne sausage is £2.25, six pack of tomatoes 85p and a loaf of bread £1.60 from the supermarket - so one egg, one tattie scone, one sausage, one slice of toast and half a tomato adds up to about £1.22. I know we're in an cost of living crisis but who is suffering from this the most? Certainly not the Bridge House Cafe, and definitely the customer. To top it off, it was luke warm. My friend also had one of their fancy hot chocolates - watery and tasteless. Ultimately, this place is all style and no substance. I, however, cannot fault the waiting staff who were the only saving grace as they were all lovely and this is clearly a management issue (if management say otherwise then it only highlights that management are the issue). You have to order at the till and so we had already paid by the time our food arrived, which is very sneaky of management as I would not have paid for this if I hadn't already! The staff were lovely and we didn't want to further ruin our experience by having to have an uncomfortable conversation with them about the management's decision to offer up such stingy portions for their breakfasts. I actually left feeling ashamed, knowing that so many tourists pass through Ballater and this pathetic breakfast is the impression visitors will have of a "full" veggie Scottish breakfast. Needless to say, we won't be back.

Ballater is a lovely small town to stroll around; all the usual upmarket gift stores, bookstores which offer something to read on holiday, and plenty of different games and puzzles should you be staying here and find the weather gets a bit wet and grey! And in the summer, you might come here for the Highland Games. If you are in town and looking for a place to eat during the day, Bridge House cafe has a lot to recommend it. Coffee and cake or sandwiches with either soup or salad, there is a range of options in every category. They were happy to prepare a gluten free sandwich for our daughter. We also appreciated the friendly and efficient service, and the pleasant indoor eating space with a bit of character, and an attached gift store (of course) which you walk through to get to the toilets. The big glass shopfront windows let in plenty of light and enable you to watch the world pass by.

Subjective? Perhaps but we were not alone in our experience today. My daughter met the mother of a family of six - eating by the window - in the Ladies who, bemoaning the cleanliness of the bathrooms, shared our thoughts on both the food and service. We did follow the lunchtime rush, admittedly, but there were no baked potatoes and little choice of vegetarian paninis. However, it was the attitude of the older woman which irked. My son is gluten-free and, eventually, it was agreed that they would make him up a panini/toastie. Happy to wait - but not that long - two paninis were brought (£9.95 each) on plates filled with non-descript crisps and the most basic of salads. The gluten-free one? Whoops! They made a mistake - after 15 minutes - and would make one up! Five minutes later, the same plate of cheap crisps and salad arrived with a tiny toasted sandwich - the END of the loaf? Filling? Apologies for pieces of chicken and bacon! To serve up THAT at a cost of £8! Aware of our feelings, it was clear that our table was avoided ... In summary? A bad day? Perhaps but the cost of mediocre food and service is prohibitive. Remember, we were not alone in our experience.

Visited 15th July.. utter disappointment Service was terrible, the person who served us didn’t put the order in, nothing was coming.. I asked her and blankly was told I never ordered anything, she asked to see my receipt, I showed on my banking app I paid £20 to be told she never served us despite being the only people in the cafe to have come in. Eventually the manager comes over, we explain. He apologies gets the order. However I had protest when he explains a Turkey panini will be 10.95.. not value for money at all, he did refunds for the difference of a normal panini but even at 7:95 it was expensive. I had an empire biscuit it was too soft and crumbled to bits and was too sweet. We were not greeted even with a hello when we arrived. The server looked bored, wasn’t listening clearly and didn’t even bother to order and proceeded to deny serving us to our faces. We did not enjoy the experience at all and should have gone to the one further up but we gave this one a go. Understand mistakes are made but to deny serving and argue I didn’t order and ask for my receipt I can only hope it’s a one of and not a regular occurrence.

Absolutely awful! £50 for baguettes and soup for 4. Extremely over priced. It’s actually cheaper to eat at balmoral castle!

We came to the bridge house for lunch. Both had Panini’s and coffee. Very good coffee. The cafe is fig friendly and the staff friendly. I made a mistake and put salt in my coffee , even though I offered to pay for another cup the owner wouldn’t hear of it and sent over a replacement. Thank you for your kindness

Stopped for a light lunch and a latte. The coffee was great, the flat bread sandwich was delicious, it came with a fresh salad and tortilla chips, very generous serving, it actually can feed 2 people, staff very friendly. The shop is not really on the main square so people can miss it, this cafe is definitely worth visiting, no loud music etc, table arranged within good distance. The sandwich was very fresh and so was the salad, unlike some places where you get a pinch of some withered salad. Keep up the good food and service Bridge House Cafe and may you long prosper. The food was worth the money.

Very disappointing! Must be a change of owners! They must be new to catering! We have visited here before, and have always been happy with the food and service. Today however it was like a very bad comedy show. We ordered soups, cappuccinos and water. The coffees come immediately and had to be drunk before going cold. 15 minutes later I went up to ask about the soups and was told they were sending items out in order. 2/3 minutes later the soups appeared. Bland, almost flavourless with cold stodgy pieces of baguette. We won’t make the mistake of visiting this place again!!

Great place for lunch, soups, panini's, salad bowls etc. You can take your dog which is great for me as a dog owner. There is a gallery and art shop, it has some great local/Scottish art and crafts for sale. Coffee is good and they have a good selection of sweet treats

Second time back and somewhat frosty reception from the staff. Having been for vegan cakes before, weren't any available when we visited. Ordered a oat mocha (great!) and oat cappuccino but the cappuccino was tiny - more like london flat white size, if that. Might try a different cafe in Ballater next time

Rooms not very large but comfortable and equipped with everything you need. Good (Scottish) breakfast. We didn't try the restaurant. Stonehaven is a pearl, the hotel is a stone's throw from the beach and the path that leads to Dunnottar Castle, from which you can enjoy views that are nothing short of marvelous.

We stayed here on our way through the region. The hotel is very clean and comfortable. And has lots of parking. Absolutely recommend. There is also a neat castle you can walk to not far away (Dunnideer) and some standing stones.
