I was quite disappointed with the level of customer service during my recent visit. Upon arrival, I waited at what appeared to be the designated seating area, but despite several staff members walking past, there was no acknowledgment. After a few minutes, I politely asked a passing waitress whether we were in the correct place or if the venue was self-seating. Her response was blunt and dismissive, simply stating, “Yes, just wait there,” without any courtesy. After waiting a further five minutes without any engagement from staff, we were eventually approached by a gentleman. Unfortunately, his manner was also quite rude. When we asked if there might be a table available for six—acknowledging we hadn’t made a reservation—his response was, “Probably not, it’s busy when it’s sunny,” delivered in a tone that felt unnecessarily dismissive. While we understand that warm weather can bring in more customers, it has been consistently sunny for several months now, so this didn’t feel like a valid reason for the abrupt attitude—especially as the venue appeared relatively quiet at the time. Ultimately, we chose to leave and take our business elsewhere, as the initial experience left us feeling unwelcome. It’s disappointing, as a little warmth and professionalism would have gone a long way. I hope the staff receive guidance on providing better customer service in the future.

Arrived for our Sunday Roast Fondue and eventually were shown to our seats. There were 7 of us, went for part of my granddaughters birthday treat. One of our tables was so unsteady rocking about when you touched it. Anyway we ordered drinks then we ordered our Sunday Roast fondue, asked for beef to be medium. We then waited for an hour for the food to arrive, when it did we were so disappointed. Beef was way overcooked like a piece of leather and everything was cold. We brought this to the attention of the waitress who said sorry about that but that was it. My daughter got up from the table and went to speak to the manager who then came over and apologised, she did deal with it very well and said our drinks would be free and would take 20% off the bill, but to be honest the meal was spoilt. We then had a fire pit booked after the meal for a treat for our granddaughters with smores and drinks We then waited another 20 minutes waiting for the smores and drinks to arrive. Nothing. That was the last straw, asked for a refund for the booking. Another manager came over and was very nice but the day was already spoilt. Honestly I wouldn’t go back

Restaurant a stone's throw from the university in the very particular Ashton lane. The place is very nice especially outside and the atmosphere is pleasant. Brel Glasgow's Sunday Fondue is an absolute treat! Forget your typical Sunday roast – this is a fun, interactive, and incredibly tasty experience. Imagine a giant Yorkshire pudding overflowing with tender fillet steak and all the classic trimmings, but the real magic is the gravy fondue for dipping! Each bite is a burst of comforting, savory goodness. The atmosphere at Brel is cozy and inviting, especially on a Sunday, making it the perfect spot to relax and indulge. It's a unique twist on a beloved classic and definitely a must-try if you're in Glasgow on a Sunday!

We had lunch here today for Mother’s Day, and the service was terrible. The staff was inattentive, and it felt like we were bothering them just by being there. I ordered a medium steak, waited about 45 minutes, and it came out rare. When I asked for it to be cooked properly, it took another 10min, no steak knife was given, no check back if we wanted anything else. We also wanted to order more drinks, but getting the server’s attention was nearly impossible. Yet, a service charge added to the bill - what for? After seeing other reviews, I’m not surprised. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Brel is always a top choice when visiting the west end. Popped in on sat for some a quick bite and a few drinks, it's often busy in here but there is a good atmosphere. The menu selection is quite varied and the mussels are famous here, this time i opened for the truffle aoli poutine, parmesan and black pepper with extra buttermilk chicken although for the additional cost for the chicken and the amount that came I'm not sure I'd bother in future - still lovely though! I have also marked 1 star off for service as it took us a bit of trying to get someone's attention to get our bill because it was a bit noisy and we couldn't seem to catch anyone near our table but no huge issue.

I intended to post this a long while ago but time ran away with me. Despite that the service that day has remained in my mind so I wanted to share. I met a friend who was going through a tough time for a catch up. We sat outside and it was pretty empty, but despite it being quiet the staff were all busy and super attentive. We were served by Anthony who brought us food and it was amazing. After Antony finished their shift, we went to the bar to order some more drinks, and the new bar tender knew exactly, who we were, what table were sat and what we were drinking, saying they would bring it over. I believe their name was Rosie. We hardly had to say a thing. That handover of information between staff just made our experience feel so smooth and we felt so looked after and special. I just wanted to give these two members of staff a wee shout out for their seamless customer service :) I hope I got their names right. But we had a lovely experience. Thank you Brel team.

Although a lovely place I was quite disappointed with the fire pit service.Upon arrival we received a marshmallow each for the s’more (there was only 2 of us) and when asked if we can have more(and of course pay) we were told the kitchen has closed.Unfortunately there is no mention on the website or in the email confirming that the kitchen closes at a specific time. This was an hour booking so just having one s’more each wasn’t quite enough. On top of that, approximately 20 minutes after I was told I couldn’t have more, the table right next to me received a box of s’mores. These seemed to be pre-made possibly in the kitchen which again-I was told was closed. For reference my booking was at 21:45.It is a shame because the place is beautiful and an amazing atmosphere however I wouldn’t have booked at that time have I known the kitchen closes and that would’ve saved the disappointment.

I recently visited Brel restaurant in Glasgow, and while the food and atmosphere were enjoyable, the service left something to be desired. The servers could definitely be friendlier. There was a noticeable lack of warmth and attentiveness, which took away from the overall experience. Good service can really elevate a meal, but in this case, it felt a bit cold and indifferent. It would make such a difference if the staff were more welcoming and approachable. A little more friendliness would go a long way in making the dining experience much better!

Food is amazing. Had the Sunday roast fondu (You have to book for this specifically on the website) only criticism on food would be that the Yorkshire pudding was slightly burnt on the edges. Besides this the meat was cooked perfectly and was an excellent cut of steak! Potatoes were fluffy with a crispy outside and great rosemary and sea salt favours. Service was below par if I’m honest. Took a while to get food ordered and once we finished we weren’t seen to or asked if we’d like any extras. By the time we’d got the attention of a waitress the kitchen was closed, this was at 21:30 yet the last booking is at 21:00 - 22:45?? Also took them 30 minutes to get our bill. They automatically add a 10% service charge to your bill too. Would absolutely recommend this place for food but expect slow service and definitely book earlier than 20:00.

As big fans of Wallace and Gromit this was quite the punch in the gut! After the fondue disappointment we were told to pick another meal in the next few minutes as the kitchen was closing in 5 minutes. Understandably fed up, we ended up leaving and finding food elsewhere 😔🫕❌ The seating area was nice and cosy with a pleasant ambiance but the inside smelt like feet - possibly the smell of the fondue which we missed out on? 🧀😓

What a Major disappointment that was. First visit was OKish, got sat outside no drink service ( have to go to the bar alone ) ordered two chicken and waffles and the food was lukewarm , soggy AND smelly chicken with a stale waffle. Turn up a second time, as the place looks kind of cosy, they tell us they don't have enough staff to serve us food. Third time's the charm with us turning up and the whole place smelling like foul urine, we wait to get seated outside , just in case it was the bar that smelled so , but no, something has gone really wrong at the shop to smell like that, we could not even order so we had a formal look at the menu and left ( 12/10/2024) . That third time will be our last time and would suggest viewers to avoid until the management picks up the slack. The area is full of great alternatives to visit.

We went last night (6 of us) and our food for what we got was overpriced and really not worth it. The only thing vaguely worth the money was the mac and cheese. A hugely overpriced sharing plate for £29 (mainly consisting of onion rings with four dry ribs, a couple of chicken skewers, two dry bits of soda bread and a small ramekin of mac and cheese), a semi decent risotto, ribs for £24 which my son said were good but for the price there were not enough of them, a poutine for £13 on a really small plate and three desserts. We had one round of drinks (three soft, a pint and a half of beer and one alcohol free Guinness) and two coffees (hilariously £4.20 for an espresso) and the bill with the ‘optional’ service charge came to just over £170. They added two cocktails to the bill so just as well I checked before paying also. Price was after they were removed. I don’t think we will be returning any time soon! Service staff were nice and friendly though.

Went for lunch for a birthday. Staff were efficient and friendly. Food is extremely overpriced, £13.25 for 3 prawns?! £15 for a veggie chicken burger with less than a handful of fries just all thrown onto a tiny sideplate. Fish tacos for £11 with the teeniest bit of fish and salad leaves also just thrown onto a plate with some small dry wraps. The food in this place has gone way downhill - maybe since being taken over they don't care about quality which is a shame as this place used to be really lovely. Rather than this place I'd go to Paesano, The Parlour, Ramen Dayo, Ka Pao, Naked Soup, The Gardner.

Really disappointing tacos 🌮. They forgot to heat the tortilla. And the Risoto seemed like paste. The only more or less good thing is the Clams

They have a card only policy no cash. My pet hate. Nice location and lovely beer garden but I'll not be back here while they won't take cash

Been going for a long time but decided to book a table for my 30th birthday. I was running late so I tried to call to ask to hold the table for longer but was answered by the answering machine and no chance to speak to the staff. I arrived 30 minutes late, which I apologised for and was 100% my fault, only to be told they gave the table away and that's the way the booking system works. Never booking a table again

A curious place. International food. If you are looking for something typical of Scotland, this is not the place, but everything you order is delicious.

Tripped over this place by accident. Will definitely be back. Not much to see from outside but go in you won't be disappointed.

There is a reason this place has been around for a long time. Always great service & the food & drinks are always top quality. Our server dealt with a severe allergy in our group really well & made my friend feel safe & looked after. Top marks.

Used to really like it here but its gone down hill. The female bar tender yesterday was horrific, it felt as if she was doing us a favour by serving us, that was after she finally put her phone dkwn to acknowledge our very existance. I won't bother to burden the establishment with my custom again.
