The food we ordered wasn’t what was on the menu, one poached instead of two, portobello mushrooms were small sliced salty we think from a tin never portobello mushrooms. Baggle was so hard I couldn’t eat it, i had to remove the filling and eat it on it’s own. The service was very slow. Definately wouldn’t return or recommend this Brasserie.

My friend and I pre booked afternoon tea in the brassiere. Our table was beautifully set and awaiting our arrival . We were handed a menu and asked to make our selection of sandwich fillings and bread. (Gluten free included) . The staff were friendly and very attentive and the place was fairly busy for a Tuesday afternoon. Wow! We were not disappointed. The afternoon tea was beautifully presented . Full selection of very freshly made sandwiches, chocolate brownie, lemon drizzle, shortbread topped with fresh fruit and to top it off huge fruit scones with lashings of chant illy cream. Tea or coffee was also topped up by the lovely Paula. The Maitlandfield house hotel has been around for a long time but under this new ownership... things are looking good . A fantastic relaxing afternoon was had.

We visited Maitlandfield House Hotel to have a meal as a family, an annual tradition after Christmas. We checked the menu before booking and as there are 3 vegetarians in the family we had to be assured that there was a reasonable choice of food for them. When we arrived there was a nice welcoming fire blazing in the hall which we enjoyed before going through to the restaurant. We were surprised to find that there was only one couple dining there , which seemed a bit odd for a Saturday evening. When we received the menu we found that there was not a great deal of choice, especially for the vegetarians. The waiter did ask what we would like, but it seemed that it was a choice of burgers or macaroni cheese. Two of the group had steak, but there was no sauce. The fish and chips were nice and the chips were crisp and not greasy. There was a very poor choice of wine.and when the waiter brought the bottle it had been opened before checking that it was the correct one.The puddings were quite ordinary but the cheese board was good. The waiter was very nice and very helpful, but as an overall experience it was disappointing, especially it was an expensive meal for what we had

When we turned up for lunch we stood and waited for someone to confirm our booking. We waited. Two ladies got up to cancel their order because they had waited over 30 minutes for soup and sandwiches. Still we waited. The two ladies complained to the manager (He was having his lunch in the restaurant – but not waiting) he condescendingly waved off their protests. We cancelled.Another couple on their way out said that this would be their last visit. The poor young waiter was doing his best running the whole front of house by himself (and for all we know, cooking the food!) but this kind of service from a hotel brassiere just isn’t good enough. Perhaps the manager could have taken a more hands-on role given the situation, like stop eating lunch and start serving!

We booked this restaurant for Sunday lunch -family celebration, trying to escape from the busy festival atmosphere in Edinburgh for a change. The food was delicious, nice traditional dishes, game, locally sourced ingredients... everybody enjoyed it, specially the desserts. The restaurant has big windows overlooking the front garden of the hotel, very nice surroundings. The service was correct, but not very friendly. The place was practically empty and there was no background music, so the atmosphere was not great but despite all we really liked this place.

Visited for a special family meal on the 18th December. The restaurant was very quite which was a shame as the food was so good, the place deserves to be packed. The food was beautifully presented, well cooked and delicious. The duck was especially good! If I had to be really picky the one fault which is a bug bear of mine was that not all our starters came out at the same time and there was quite a delay BUT it was handled very well and we were offered a complimentary drink as an apology. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgable about the wines etc on offer and the Whiskies that the bar stocked and made our evening even more pleasant with his great manner and service. We will most definitely be back!!!

Three hungry golfers in Haddington. We had dinner here and were not disappointed. I had a generous helping of mussels: delicious. And the main course of sea bream was very tasty. But what really impressed was the polite, professional service. When we ordered a bottle of wine (good wine list) the waiter returned to apologise that our choice was not available. He offered, instead, more expensive wines at the same price as the one we had chosen. Nice touch.

The food was absolutely lovely and so were the staff, but they forgot my daughter's starter, and were very distracted by a big party in at the same time as us which meant that it took almost 2 hours for our meal to be served. We had ordered ice cream for our daughter's pudding but eventually we had to cancel because it was past her bed time and we had to go home. Although the staff were really apologetic and took off the cost of our drinks from our meal the length of time to serve 2 courses was a bit much. Having said that the food, when it did appear, was amazing. One of the best burgers I have ever eaten.

We ate there on a voucher which meant steaks were on the list of available dishes and they were good, although served with Macdonalds type skinny chips.. I had fish and chips which was OK. Sweets, my companions had, were fine but I made the mistake of ordering a cheese board. One small piece of brie, a small melting blue cheese which had seen better days and a sliver of cheddar with four biscuits didn't hit the spot. The waitress was foreign and struggled with the drinks order, alleging beer was lager and that "Heavy" wasn't a term for dark beer! She did have "Best" she said which was, of course Belhaven lol She was pleasant enough though as was the chap who offered us coffee in the lounge. Not many customers there for a Saturday night and no atmosphere. All in all a pleasant place in nice surroundings but nothing to write home about.

I attended this restaurant in August with a group of friends 3 of which had children with them. No problem with the service, although some of the steakas ordered were sent back due to not being cooked correctly, but we did receive an apology. Nice setting and staff were accomodating. The food was not good at all. I ordered soup which had 3 lumps of carrot, a lump of potato and stock. It was horrid, and when I left it due to it being inedible I was not asked why or if there was anything wrong. The food my friends had was not good either, cold and not cooked properly. This restaurant is trying way too hard and it has lost the basic principles of good food and local produce. Very dissapointing, and the menu is grossly overpriced and not good selection for the amount they charge.

This is a hotel trying to be a gastro-pub. The portions were mean and the food overpriced. My wife had the seafood linguine which had hardly any seafood in it. My 'steak' burger was similar to the hamburgers you get from transport cafes, the bun was a 10 pence job form tesco and the salad was meagre. About a £1.50 of ingredients for almost £11.00. And the chips came served in a stylish mug type contianer to hide the fact there were only a handful. The desert was advertised on the 'specials board at once price and for £2.00 more on the menu. Needless to say the bill arrived with the menu price. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and light. The staff were ok. We won't be going back, it felt like a rip-off and the quality is poor even for pub food.

We had a delightful lunch at East Coast Musselburgh today, choosing from their set menu. The restaurant is clean, contemporary, and tastefully decorated, which created a welcoming atmosphere. We both started with the mussels in a spicy tomato sauce that also served as a flavorful broth. The sauce had the perfect balance of heat and richness, complementing the fresh mussels. For mains, I opted for the Spaghetti Harbour, which was generously portioned and packed with clams and mussels. The seafood was cooked perfectly, and the dish was hearty yet refined. My wife had the King Prawn Calamari, which was served with a light, perfectly cooked batter, accompanied by crispy skinny fries, a fresh salad, and tartare sauce. She loved the combination of flavors and textures. We washed everything down with a refreshing Leith draught beer, which rounded off our meal perfectly. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and we felt well taken care of throughout our visit. The facilities were well-maintained, including spotless toilets, which is always a good sign. Overall, the meal was excellent value for money, and we left feeling satisfied and eager to return. I highly recommend East Coast for anyone looking for fresh seafood and a great dining experience in Musselburgh.

Literally just got up and walked out after reading the menu prices. We were here last summer for lunch, had one of the best bowls of Cullen skink soup to date, came back specifically for that today as in the area, only to find that for one bowl of soup as a starter was £9.95 or for a large bowl of the same is now priced at £15.95! FOR A BOWL OF SOUP! I know it’s a tourist hotspot, but take off your Dick Turpin masks No 12!!
