Brasserie at Ellenborough Park in Tewkesbury

Brasserie style restaurant. Selection of small plate dishes along with ciabattas and mains. Small plates were appealing; salmon skewers, calamari, prawn dishes and a varied selection of ciabattas.

What a beautiful place, so full of character. Couldn't fault the food or the service, both were first class.

Came recently for my Christmas present that I must use. An indulgent spa package which included a set menu & glass of fizz. I chose the fish and a desert. All was very tasty and service impeccable. My spa treatment was lovely and I went home feeling relaxed and indulged !!

I'd give it a zero if I could. A visit with friends for lunch. The food was atrocious. My chicken club sandwich came as a toastie despite it not being advertised as such. As well as being inedible it was also cold. £20 wasted. My friend's meal (a fish one) was also dreadful. £24 wasted.

Positives first. The hotel and grounds are stunning. But…… what has happened to the standards of food and service. I made a lunch reservation for two friends and myself as a special treat which we had been looking forward to for some time. On arrival, I would have expected to be shown to the table, but instead we were handed menus and pointed in the direction of a table at the end. This was laid up for 4 people so I had to check with the waiter this was the correct table. If I book for three then I expect the table to be laid for three and not have to start moving furniture and table settings. We ordered drinks and our food. Drinks arrived and some water. At no point during our meal did the waiter offer to pour the water or drinks for us. The food arrived after an extremely long wait and was a complete let down. My fish and chips were almost indelible. Chips OK but the batter on the fish was rock hard and almost impossible to cut into. There was very little fish inside the batter. I have no idea what went wrong with the mushy peas – they were anaemic and a very strange texture. £24 was a ridiculous price for something which wasn’t tasty or enjoyable. My friend had the chicken club sandwich which arrived with cold toasted bread. The sandwich was not advertised as toasted and she had great difficulty biting into the tough texture. Something else I noticed was the odd choice of crockery. The mains were served on modern plates but the side plates were floral china. Incidentally the mis-matched side plates were not used, so no idea why they were there. Bottom line is that the lunch we had been looking forward to was overpriced and a massive disappointment . Not what we expected from a 5 star hotel. The kitchen needs a shake up and waiting staff need more training. Management need to ensure standards live up to the high prices.

Varied menu to select from including traditional roasts through to sandwiches. Jay looked after us (as usual) delivering a very high standard of service. Special mention for their cauliflower cheese!

Ate recently for a friends belated birthday that couldn’t be celebrated in lockdown. Nice menu. Varied choices. Starter I had humus and pita bread. Tasty. Main I had chicken Caesar salad. Soooo much chicken and about 20 anchovies lots of lettuce & a few croutons. Very filling. Service was attentive but rather a long wait in between courses.

Although you can stay at this hotel, we’re locally based and so went to Ellenborough Park on Sunday for lunch. I cannot comment on the rooms here, but the setting and building are beautiful. Sadly the food was not. We ate in the Horse Box, my husband has coeliac disease and we repeatedly checked and were told that they could cater for this. When we received our food he checked again that it was safe. The waiters were really helpful and went back to the kitchen to check. However, it transpired that the kitchen hadn’t listened (or understood?) about his coeliac and his chips had been cooked in contaminated oil, so had to be taken away. He was offered some boiled potatoes instead as they ‘didn’t want to turn the other fryer on’. These turned up halfway through our meal. The rest of the food (salads which consisted of half an iceberg lettuce and a few bits of tomato and feta for £16) were lacklustre and flavourless. When we got back home he had further symptoms of a coeliac attack - clearly the chips were not the only thing that kitchen had missed. His lunch cost £28 - for the one course. We wrote to them to advise and their general manager apologised and asked if we’d go back so they could prove to us that they knew what they were doing. We will not be as we now do not trust that my Hubby can eat there safely, and to be honest you’d get better food for less money at Cote Brassiere, where they’re coeliac U.K. accredited.

I don’t think I’ve ever been to a restaurant with so many staff that didn’t know what to do with themselves. Waited for ever to order drinks and asked specifically to have our gins in highball glasses not the goblet type and after 15 minutes I could see goblets being filled at the bar - the girl who took the order didn’t pour the drinks or serve them 3 separate people to do one job. The whole night was the same. Normal peas please she wrote it down but along cane crushed peas. No one came to do the “is everything ok with your meal” glasses and bottles piled up. Staff were bumping into each other spilling our port. People came in after us ate and left, we were so messed about. Food was average - burgers not difficult but as a 5* Hotel I’d expect excellent not average. Sort your staff out and redo your menu to be a little more creative.

We had hoped the fine dining restaurant would be available but apparently the chef left before lockdown and hasn't been replaced, so this is the only dining option. As it was a warm evening we opted to eat outside on the lawn (couldn't have a "carriage" as they are for four, or a hefty minimum spend), lovely, though the wind was a bit nippy whistling round the buildings. I ordered a glass of sauvignan blanc and wast shocked that it was served in a PLASTIC glass - which I queried, it's in case glass breaks and a dog hurts its feet! (though customers with jugs of tap water, on the lawn tables, had glass jugs and glasses). It did make me wonder who the paying customer was but, credit to David, the Duty manager, he swiftly brought me a real glass. The food was delicious, particularly the fish main course, and we moved indoors for part of the meal as it was becoming chilly outside. This was all arranged without fuss. Overall a good experience, apart from the glass hiccup!

Ellenborough Park is simply stunning and set in a truly beautiful setting. It's worth going there just to admire the the buildings and the view. Add sunshine and wine and it's near perfect. Lunching there was an extremely pleasant affair. Plus the staff were very friendly and the food, adequate. But it was fine to be out and alive for the first time since lockdown.

Recently had afternoon tea with with my auntie top quality ingredients on par with best London hotels friendly service very reasonable cost what more could you want

The food for both our lunch and dinner was delicious and very well presented. They catered well for our fussy little one who just likes plain pasta or nuggets!!! The staff were excellent.

Lana, thank you for being very attentive to my dietary requirements at The Horse Box. The ambience was perfect for my getaway and the time you spent to walk me through the menu was just very kind. I was also very grateful to the Chef who tweaked my dishes so that there was no gluten nor diary inside. The food was amazing. My husband and I were lucky enough to receive the gift of dinner or lunch at this wonderful venue as last year’s Christmas present from our daughters. We were not disappointed! We have been before but it is very special and saved for occasions. Our gift was very generous and we prefer to eat in the day so we chose the Horse Box and had a delicious glass of champagne each. At £13 I would usually decline but it was an exceptional glass and I savoured every sip. I chose the calamari and Mayo, which was delicious, followed by the rump steak and skinny fries, cooked to perfection. My husband also had the steak but started with the ham hock terrine, which he enjoyed. The wine was superb, a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc called Pulpo - very smooth. I have to say, the staff are charming, polite and attentive without being over the top. The place itself has the most exquisite position, surrounded by beautiful scenery and as we emerged the red winter sun was setting in front of us - quite breathtaking. My only suggestion would be to have some lighter and healthier offerings for lunch. I don’t eat sandwiches and like lots of different vegetables. That said, it was a treat this time and I have no regrets about my choices!

We booked a 3 night stay away at Ellenborough Park. It is beautifully situated with some lovely walks from the grounds. Do ask at reception for the leaflet. The room was spacious and had a lovely bathroom. At this time there are no extras such as cotton wool pads to remove make up etc but the body lotion, shampoo, conditioner and shower gels were gorgeous. If requested, reception could furnish you with a leaflet on the history of the building and pointed out the musket holes in the wooden front door supposedly made by Oliver Cromwell. Breakfast was great and portions were generous. Dinner was a bit hit and miss. The Horsebox is the only restaurant open currently. Do request to be in the main dining area as the overflow area is cold to sit in and in atmosphere also. The food was all really good but on occasions was cold. All the staff were friendly, helpful and often amusing. I would return for another stay.

Great food! A really good roast, lovely wine and dessert. Great service too. We were just surprised that there was only one roast option left when we arrived at 2pm. But otherwise great.

Buena comida, buen ambiente, pudo acomodarnos para bebidas sin alcohol en lugar del champán incluido. (Podría ser bueno ofrecer vino y cerveza sin alcohol como alternativa. Excelente servicio, la camarera vino con un chocolate especial ya que mi esposa mencionó que era mi cumpleaños.

Buen restaurante, personal atento, buena comida, pero debido a Covid, ¡el hotel tiene un menú limitado que es un poco demasiado limitado! Me alojé en el hotel por dos noches y comimos allí en ambos. Disfrutamos de la comida en ambas ocasiones, pero si hubiéramos estado allí más tiempo, no estoy seguro de que hubiéramos encontrado algo más que nos interesara en el menú.Tal vez la adición de un "especial diario" que cambiaba a diario podría haberlo solucionado.

La comida, el servicio y el ambiente fueron excelentes. Sin embargo, había pedido una copa de vino porque mi esposa no bebe y una botella sería demasiado.Pedí una copa de rosa de la casa y me obsequiaron una copa de Sancere de 250 ml a un costo de 17. ! No soy un experto, pero no clasificaría a Sancere como vino de la casa y no me preguntaron el tamaño requerido.Después de la comida me quejé en recepción y redujeron la factura en 4. 50, tenga cuidado al pedir bebidas para recibir el tamaño que desea, ya que se someten a la cantidad mayor.

Muy caro para "comida de bar".Nuestra comida salió rápido, un poco demasiado rápido entre platos. Teníamos Chateaubriand como nuestro plato principal, tan delicioso como sabio, teníamos un hongo plano empanizado entre nosotros, un puñado de tomates cherry, un puñado de berros y un tazón de patatas fritas entre nosotros, ¡no mucho para 70!El personal siempre fue educado y servicial pero lamentablemente escasez de personal. A medida que el bar se llenaba, parecían estar abrumados por las demandas.

Tuvimos una experiencia realmente encantadora, era nuestro primer aniversario de bodas, después de haber tenido nuestra recepción allí hace un año. Nos hicieron sentir muy bienvenidos y nuestra comida fue excelente, muy eficiente y amable, y después del café nos obsequiaron con un pequeño regalo de caprichos de dulce de azúcar, un gesto encantador. . Lo recomendamos encarecidamente y esperamos poder disfrutar de muchas más visitas en el futuro.

Expensive basic pub food. Service good. Menu limited with no specials of the day. Not as expected in a 5* hotel/restaurant. Disappointed.

Nos alojamos en el Ellenborough por 2 noches y comimos en el Horse Box ambas noches, la comida era maravillosa. Buenas raciones, sabrosas y bien servidas. El personal fue excelente, especialmente David, que hizo todo lo posible para ver que nosotros y nuestros amigos pasamos una buena noche.

We had an enjoyable meal at The Horse Box last night. It was very relaxed with good service and the food was flavourful. We took our dogs and they were welcomed, so overall a good experience

You need to change the menu every day. The least you should offer is dish of the day. Also your prices don’t match your quality. Rest of Ellenborough works well but food is disappointing.

Cuando visitamos con las restricciones de Covid aún vigentes, entendimos que el menú estaría restringido. Sin embargo, la elección de los platos principales no fue muy inspirada. Además, la calidad era variable: las patatas fritas variaban de terrible a muy buena en diferentes comidas. El pescado rebozado del almuerzo era excelente, pero la hamburguesa de la cena era espantosa. Seguro que si vas a poner una hamburguesa en la carta de un hotel de lujo, con un precio de lujo, al menos deberías poder hacerlo bien. Se sirvió solo con patatas fritas, sin ningún otro acompañamiento. Los postres eran buenos. En general, no tiene una buena relación calidad-precio. En el lado positivo, el servicio fue excelente, amable y eficiente, enhorabuena a todo el personal.

El personal era excelente y no podía hacer más. Sin embargo, la comida era terrible. Reservamos en el hotel y se incluyeron 3 noches en el Horse Box. La segunda noche la comida no era comestible y la tercera noche salimos. Nada de delicadeza, pescado y patatas fritas empapados y un poco de risotto.

The food and service was exceptional, very friendly and polite. Superb and highly recommended. All tables sanitised thoroughly between guests.

La experiencia gastronómica más terrible. No puedo comprender cómo ese lugar puede permanecer abierto. Mira las fotos que te he proporcionado. Son los dos platos principales que teníamos de un menú de 25 almuerzos. Esos son (no podrás adivinar) una ensalada César (sí lo es, o dicen que lo es) y un risotto (te prometo que no vomitamos en el plato que es lo que nos sirvieron). Eso fue asqueroso. Todo el menú era horrible. Entonces supe que el chef debe haber sido alguien que trabajó allí durante años y nadie se atrevió a desafiarlo. Le pregunté al camarero y bingo que tenía razón. Trabajé con un chef hace años en Londres que se hacía llamar maestro de cocina porque tenía 25 años de experiencia. No quería aprender y no podía cocinar la comida más básica. Martin, ¿estás trabajando ahí? ¿Cuánto tiempo se tarda en aprender a preparar una ensalada César o un risotto? Pocos minutos leer una receta de cocina parece demasiado trabajo para este lugar. Se me escapa que alguien pueda hacer una crítica positiva de este horrible lugar.

Gracias Ellenborough Park Hotel por hacer que nuestro par de días fuera perfecto. Desde el momento en que llegamos, el personal no pudo hacer más por nosotros. Entorno encantador, servicio fantástico y la comida es simplemente deliciosa. Tuvimos la oferta de 2 platos para el almuerzo y, como persona sin gluten / lácteos, encontré muchas opciones y fueron muy serviciales con mi solicitud de cambio.Los paseos son encantadores.Lugar perfecto para celebrar los 50 años de mi marido.

El restaurante está ubicado en el hotel Elenborough Park, una hermosa propiedad antigua en un hermoso entorno en el borde de los Cotswolds con vista al hipódromo de Cheltenham. Aunque no se podía ver la hermosa vista desde el interior de Horsebox, era silenciosamente eficiente y cómodo. Great Venue but the food was lacking imagination and £20 for a burger that was over cooked and chips prepared by Brake Brothers is not up to 5 star standards

The government's plans to help restaurants etc, by having 50% up to £10 discount, doesn't always help the consumer. Disappointingly few choices of each course. When you produce the choices pre pandemic, we may return.

Go here fairly often but this was a disappointing visit. Stale bread for my sandwich, could hardly see / taste the beef, nine pounds for two lime and sodas (which they took off the bill begrudgingly) and a manager that blamed her staff for our experience rather than a shoddy post lockdown operational set up. Was a favorite now not so sure we’ll go back in a hurry.

Beautiful hotel, meal very disappointing, completely understand the current situation is very challenging but food wasn’t good. Staff are all lovely and very hardworking.

We enjoyed an excellent 3 course meal which we could not fault. Good size portions and all cooked perfectly (steak and delicious sea bream with a very tasty ratatouille) service was prompt and attentive. We will certainly be returning.

Cocktail menu was small and lacking, my other half ordered a espresso martini, I watched it be made and the staff discuss that they had run out of kahlua and to use dissaronno instead. What the bar staff should have said is they can’t make that cocktail, you can’t make a express martini that way!I asked if I could have a French martini and the bar attendant had not heard of this and didn’t know how to make, she googled a recipe and make me one, but maybe the staff should have more training in different cocktails, your menu says the bar staff love a challenge?! And French martini isn’t really a challenge.Our meal was due to use celebrating a wedding anniversary and unfortunalty we were told we would be sitting outside of the restaurant area, in what was a corridor/ walkway for people coming in and out of the building. We weren’t happy to sit here, it was bright and there was a large loud family and we were looking for a more relaxed evening. We told the member of staff we were celebrating and still he said, the family will be gone soon. Eventually we managed to get a seat inside the Brasserie. Overall the food was nice, but the service was quite slow.I’ve given 3 blobs, because I can’t give 1/2 blobs and would give 3.5

Food was lovely although seems a little overpriced. Service from our waiter was good however when we first arrived earlier in the day we waited at the bar and weren’t even acknowledged by 2 staff working behind the bar or the person taking bookings/showing to the table for at least 10 minutes.We then watched this happen to several other people too. We ate lunch here whilst staying at Ellenborough Park. I mentioned when booking the room that my wife is vegan and was recommended to book meals in advance so they could accommodate this, however when we arrived for lunch they seemed unaware of this. The chef was able to make the vegetarian dish vegan however I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the restaurant in a 5 star hotel to be more prepared than this for dietary requirements when they have indicated that with advance notice they can accommodate them.Service was very slow - half an hour between being shown to our table and having a drinks order taken.The food was OK, average pub food. The menu was very limited although I understand this may be a temporary measure due to Covid.We had a dinner reservation during our stay here as well but after the lunch chose to cancel it and find somewhere in Cheltenham instead.

Overnight stay and dined at the Horsebox. If honest, despite the Quality of food being ok the options were restrictive and over priced.

We attended for Sunday lunch but the range of food on the plate was a little disappointing (carrots and Brocolli as the only vegetables on offer). The beef was nice enough but a little rare for our tastes and accompanied by a large amount of fat. Yorkshire pudding was nice, potato’s were a little pale but tasty enough.The atmosphere was a little odd in the Boat house as it felt very much like being sat in the bar. There was only one other table sat to lunch and they had a loud dog with them, which was a bit of a surprise indoors.Unfortunately, despite the lack of diners service was not at all prompt. There were long waits between courses and we had to chase staff for drink orders as well as the final bill.There are better and cheaper places for Sunday Lunch near to Cheltenham.

A glorious setting but a disappointing meal. Very small portions, even the main course of the three course lunch was served in a small bowl. The Caesar salad was mediocre; a large amount of lettuce, no bacon, very little dressing and the fish didn't taste like anchovies.The starter consisted of very small thin strips of whitebait with a dollop of sauce. The best part of the meal was the selection of ice cream and sorbet for dessert.The service wasn't brilliant; we had to wait half-an-hour for dessert, but it was very busy that day. Not good value at £74.I hope very much that the Ellenborough can regain its reputation for excellent cuisine.

We had booked at the hotel for a two night stay. Unfortunately the menu did not alter during our stay which limited our choice to one vegetarian choice and two other mains. For a hotel that is meant to offer fine dining, even with COVID-19 taken into account More effort should have been made to offer a slightly broader menu. The food was good, but for the prices being charged it should have been an awful lot better!

First of all on arrival the waitress tried to make us sit in the lobby area. Throughout our stay we had not seen anyone sat there, we said we would like to sit in the restaurant and would wait for a table which we did. Service very slow, starters finally arrived and we asked for some bread which took 15 mins. Steaks arrived both cold and sent back. Expensive rubbish poor quality food which lets a beautiful hotel down.

it was okay, nothing special for a 5 star hotel. Guys from the local BMW in for lunch for the first day of Cheltenham racing seemed be getting more attention then anyone else. Spa was very good though - lovely staff !

Very tasty fish & chips, a good wine selection and very helpful staff. The lamb hotpot was tasty but felt overpriced in a casual dining atmosphere. Would recommend if you're at the hotel and need a quick bite but not worth a special journey as I think there are likely much better casual dining options in nearby Cheltenham but I guess we paid for the convenience as hotel guests!

Lovely food and atmosphere. Lucky enough to spend two nights at the hotel and there wasn’t a need to head anywhere else for food. Staff were lovely too. Very attentive.

Had dinner with excellent service and good quality meals. The wine is seriously overpriced and merits an immediate review. We will return as the food and ambience are very appealing. A moderate Pinot Grigio at £30 is not value for money.

Having experienced an excellent dinner here on a previous occasion We were looking forward to lunch. We were shown in to the dining room at the appointed time: 1p.m. eventually had to ask if we may have a wine list and had to ask later if the wine waiter was about and was there any chance of us being served desert. Coffee was served just before 4p.m.!! I would describe our group as a number of senior business people, ladies and gentlemen. This is supposed to be a 'TipTop' establishment. Our previous visit was 'Top' This time we did not want to leave a 'Tip'

My granddaughter and I spent a day in the spa followed by lunch. The food and service couldn’t have been better. I’d just say the menus should be replaced they were a bit tired.

We booked for Christmas Lunch which was a first for us. We arrived for the Champagne and Canapés Reception at 2.00 only to find there were no canapés left but the champagne was nice. We were shown to our table for 2.30 and waited for the pre-ordered Lunch, we waited about an hour for the starter to arrive. The food was very nice, we then had about about a 90 minutes for the main course. We were told there was a problem in the kitchen which was being resolved. When the food arrived it was very nice. We then had a short wait for our sweets. We were given complimentary drinks, but everyone in our area was complaining. Our siting was booked for 2.30 and we eventually left about 6.15, which had spoiled the rest of our day. The waiting staff were very embarrassed and did try to placate everyone. It was obvious they did not have enough staff for the number of guests . I can certainly say we will not be going out for Christmas Lunch again.

My friend and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner here while staying overnight at Ellenborough Park. The food and wine were superb, as were our pre-dinner cocktails which we enjoyed by the fire, and the service was first-class, nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend!

Perfect atmosphere to spend with your loved ones. The meal was delicious, staff was very friendly and professional.

Enjoyed dining here on the first night of our stay. Pleasant room although a little too dimly lit in my opinion, made it difficult to read the menu. Food was delicious, I had fish pie and hubby had a steak which he said was one of the best he had ever had and waiter suggested a lovely gin which I thoroughly enjoyed.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious, particulary the Wild Boar burger. Nice cosy atmosphere.

I loved the atmosphere and my celeriac soup was just super joined with the glass of prosecco! I ordered the wild boar burger with chips....and it was okay, but I think a slice of lettuce, or garnish would have been welcome. The boar patty was okay but a bit odd. And I'm all for out of the ordinary, but this really did not taste that good....with a ketchup based relish inside, it seemed. I think a hardy beef patty with a better bun would get you rave feedback, esp if you added with a small salad flourish! The spa day was excellent, honestly this lunch was very enjoyable, I just think that burger could be another positive experience with these small and maybe no more costly ingredients to add another star to my rating and other's feedback!

Excellent food but service very slow and more staff needed. Explanation and apologies was because they were very busy but surely with advanced bookings and two days before Christmas they knew what to expect.

Exceptional! The best meal we’ve had in England. We ordered the braised beef cheek, it melted in our mouths, simply amazing. And one fish pie, which was the best my sister, who is a brilliant cook, ever tasted. Wine list ok but very pricey.

La camarera no fue muy amable, pero el camarero sí. Una pena porque la comida era deliciosa. Me dijeron que la 1:30 pm era el primer espacio disponible, sin embargo, al llegar había gente comiendo y mesas disponibles. Se programó una gran reserva hasta la 1 de la tarde, así que podría haberme sentado antes. Tenía mucha hambre, porque cuando llegué a las 9:30 am inicialmente, pregunté si podía tener una e. sol. café y pastelería, pero la única opción era el desayuno para 20, no un excelente pretratamiento. Me ofrecieron una caja de refrigerios (caja de caballos) pero el spa no sabía lo que buscaba, vengan a las 2 pm cuando conseguí mi comida, tenía mucha hambre. El paté era muy duro y las tostadas de Melba no eran atractivas, pero el abadejo y las patatas fritas deliciosas. Así experiencia mixta en general.

Loved our dinner - we had £40 per person to spend as it was part of our room rate. We had a sharing fish platter, chicken salad, fish and a cheese board.....and lovely wine too. Very impressed that you had Napoleon Brandy for sale too!

Good warm and comfortable environment, attentive wait staff, good food and overall enjoyable experience.

Dinner for our stay at Ellenborough Park was in the 'casual' Horsebox restaurant. Not a huge choice on the menu, but the food was really lovely and plenty of it. Had the Celeriac, apple and blue cheese soup which was delicious and then good 'pub grub' main meals which were nicely presented, beautifully cooked and well served by the lovely restaurant staff.

The building is lovely and the gardens are stunning. I have a feeling the guests of the hotel treat “The Horse Box” as their living room and as such some can be loud and overbearing. We asked to be moved because one set right next to us had no idea of personal space and were so loud. The food was mediocre and very overpriced in my opinion. Prawn cocktail nothing special £10, £30 for a very small steak, a few frozen chips (triple cooked I do not believe) and one shelled out mushroom with black garlic in with one small ring of tomato on the top of it and a handful of watercress. The steak was cooked well but was tepid by the time it got to the table. The chips were by contrast nuclear hot. Chocolate fondant £10 ok, £9 for the cheapest large glass of wine. The service (which you are paying 12.5% if discretionary, should NOT appear on the bill, but does!) was ok if you think it’s acceptable to sit in front of dirty plates for over 20 minutes and listen to them talk to another guest for 10 minutes while you’re waiting for them to get your condiments. The music was bizarre for the venue, even if in the background. There was a VERY overpowering air fresher smell which you could taste through your food it was that strong. The room is VERY dark so bring a torch if you want to see the menu! £59 lighter frankly I expected better. Overall not special enough for me to return. If you think the more expensive restaurant is better it looked like the dinners were at a tasting funeral!

Food was fine, reasonable choice for the type of venue. Service was all over the place, not professional, cutlery had to be requested twice, order from next table delivered to us in error. Noise from a party frequenting the bar was unbearable, until they departed, so layout is problematic - staff did nothing depsite complaints

This is a lovely venue - the kids enjoyed playing in the garden and the bar itself is very nice and traditional. Food was good but service was just appalling. We were there with 2 young kids who were struggling with time everything took (we were 2.5 hours for lunch). We waited 45 minutes for our main course dishes to be taken from the table (and I asked twice at the bar for these to be taken away). The place was not even busy. It's a shame really as it should be much better.

Food was outstanding but we were a table of 10, had to pre order food which they still managed to get wrong.

Wow what a lovely venue in superb grounds. That’s where it ends!!! Service was so slow and atrocious. Waited 15 mins for Barman, ordered drinks waiter offered to bring drinks to outside table, waited 40 mins by which time we had to go bar to collect drinks. Ordered lunch but food was very average and very expensive. We then ordered another round of drinks waited another 40mins then decided to cancel them which took 15 mins. Absolutely appalling service

Limited menu and I had fish pie which was very small and had chunks of carrots and very little fish ☹️

The menu is reasonable — not extensive, but decent enough, and I had whitebait to start and a wild boar burger and chips for main. The food was very nice, so no complaints in that respect. The issue for me is value for money.

Owing to other issues within the hotel, we ended up having to put our dinner back to 9pm, so we were eating substantially later than planned. At that time the Horse Box is a pleasant environment with lots of mostly attentive staff, though occasionally they were distracted, so coffee had to be ordered a second time. The main courses (fish and burger) were okay, but neither the chips nor the French fries were crispy, instead they were a bit soggy and undercooked, but by 9-30pm we couldn't be bothered to send them back and have to start again. The sticky toffee pudding was tasty and substantial. And the second espresso was much better than the first, which was actually a weak Americano served in an espresso cup! We also enjoyed the chocolates and 'Happy Anniversary' plate which came with the second, and proper, espresso.

Food was in general good quality, service was good but they need more staff here as they struggled keeping up with the demand and clearing tables. Bearing in mind this was a wens night I wouldn't want to be there at the weekend.

We had diner there Saturday night and were fairly disappointed. Menu was an average pub menu if at all and service was very slow and struggling Well below expectations and what a hotel aspiring to this status should deliver.

I had dinner here with my wife when staying here on a babymoon break. We had great service, drinks and food. In particular the braised beef cheek was incredible!

Yesterday I had two very average small cappuccinos which cost over £10. I exclaimed at the price - unbelievable! As a local I won't be returning in a hurry.

Very welcoming and helpful staff. Good food choices and delicious food. Great interior, the fresh flowers on the tables were being changed whilst we were there!

Lovely light airy room in gorgeous hotel and wonderful setting. Menu choices were limited ... only - burgers, steak, fish pie, fish& chips, risotto, beef cheek - plus tuna nicoise and chicken caesar salad - fish and chips was good... tuna nicoise was rather boring and flavourless though it did use fresh seared tuna... burger a big disappointment - it was wild boar and very solid in texture and took 30 minutes to arrive (presumably they were catching the wild boar)... meal for 3 with starters and drinks was almost £100 so very overpriced for the choice and quality

We had a delicious lunch. The staff were very welcoming and attentive and the menu varied and interesting. We all chose different mains and thoroughly enjoyed our lunch.

We had lunch here on arrival. My husband had the sausage sandwich I had chicken with the avocado very tasty,generous portions. Our evening meal here was lovely,great atmosphere, and very friendly staff. Presentation of food very good!

Very good food in nice surroundings. Did not like the dreadful archaic piped music, really spoilt the atmosphere. Service a little slow and it appeared one waitress was on her own on our lunchtime visit. Food was delicious and good value so lots to like.

We ate at the horse box on Monday evening. We had purchased a summer promotion even which gave a £40 allowance per room for food. All meals had extremely inflated prices (fish & chips £18/ steak - £30). We all ordered a starter which came out quickly and were of a good standard. The only issue with this was a smoked salmon starter costing £12 came out with the 2 smallest pieces of salmon imaginable for the price. However they were tasty and well presented. We then waited around 45 minutiae for our main courses to appear. This was very boring and seem unreasonable as the restaurant was only half full. We then waited about 25 mins for our plates to be cleared. 3 of 4 of us ordered puddings. Again we waited around 25 mins for these to appear. When they did arrive only 2 were bought out and after 5 mins we had to ask for the 3rd. This was discounted from the bill without our prompting. Overall, we sat at our table for a 3 course meal at 7:30pm. We did not leave the restaurant only just having finished our meal and 9:55. Nearly 2 and a half hours just to eat dinner. Unfortunately we would not recommend this restaurant based on our experience.

The Horse Box is an informal restaurant within Ellenborough Park. Been a keen cook my self I would suggest the limited menu ensures the standards of the food are high. Very high. We enjoyed a starter of soup and whitebait and a main of Lamb and Chicken salad. ON the second evening my partner had soup, and I had heritage tomatoes with mozzarella. For main I had a steak and my partner a burger/ The food is excellent, complemented by a professional waiting service.

We had lunch and dinner here to celebrate my birthday. Only 5 other diners at lunch but no staff to be seen so we sat down at a table after finding a menu. Nobody came to take our order after nearly 15 minutes so we thought perhaps we had to order at the bar where a member of staff had finally appeared but, no, we were told someone would come to take our order at the table which they eventually did.

La ubicación era como siempre perfecta y el servicio bastante bueno, pero la comida no estaba a la altura. El vino no llegó y el pan estaba duro. El risotto estaba empapado. La ensalada de pollo estaba delicioso. Lamento no haber planteado esto en ese momento, ya que era una celebración de cumpleaños y no queríamos arruinar la atmósfera. La camarera amablemente trajo un plato encantador de dulces para el cumpleaños.

Este restaurante se llama a sí mismo un pub, pero nos pareció muy relajante y tenía una mesa encantadora con sillas cómodas. Disfrutamos de nuestras comidas. Buen servicio. Cuando se nos preguntó si queríamos postres, solicitamos un poco de descanso, no nos pidieron de nuevo y en su lugar nos trajeron la factura, ¡esa es mi única queja!
