Bowen's Fish & Chip Shop in Pembrokeshire

The chippy is called Môr Ffein, which google translates to “so fine”. These were much more than the common usage of ‘fine’, these were old school vintage levels of the word ‘fine’, these were the best chips I can remember having ever. They’re like a chip / french fry hybrid with all the best qualities of both. They were even able to accommodate the gluten free, coeliac of the group with a choice of beef or vegan chilli on a jacket potato. Lovely staff, very happy visit.

Please note that Bowen's is now Môr Ffein. It's always a good sign when the locals are queuing out of the door at a chippy! We ordered takeaway fish & chips here on the last night of our holiday, and it was incredibly good. Freshly cooked fish, crispy batter & chips and piquant homemade tartare sauce - totally delicious and the portions were just right - not too large or small. The staff were very friendly too. Will definitely be back. (If you want to dine al fresco, we recommend Poppit Sands beach, just a few minutes up the road - parking is free in summer after 7pm)

Very good local fish and chip takeaway. Large portions and well cooked. An easy dinner whilst staying in local self catering accommodation.

Ate twice here whilst on holiday at poppit sands. Beautiful food, had a selection of fish, sausage, pies, faggots, curry sauce and chips over the two visits and all of a very high quality. Fish especially was beautiful. Light batter and cold itself as white as snow. Reasonable prices too. Go and visit!

Checked this out while staying in St Dogmeals over half term. Proper hand cut chips and an interesting menu. Lovely warm staff and would definitely recommend.

The best chippy we’ve had! This is now called Mor Ffein (looks like it’s recently been re-done up) and it is excellent. Chips are perfectly cooked, sausage was fresh and curry sauce was the best I’ve ever had! My partner loved the fish and mushy peas too. The lemon cheesecake was delicious, so light and tasty. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. The ladies working were great too.

We come here to have fish and chips and I have got to say it was the nicest fish and chips we’ve had. The batter is crispy and thin. All presented in boxes to keep warm We had to have another visit on the Friday to try out the pies. They was delicious full of good portions of meat. Very reasonable prices. Absolutely recommend if you like crisp chips and light batter. Curry sauce lovely. Mushy peas very good. Clean and friendly service. Diolch yn fawr iawn Great value. Will return. Parking can be found at public car park opposite. A lovely village lucky to have such a good chip shop.

We were advised that this shop had some of the best food in the area and we were not disappointed in the food at all. The fish was cooked just right and the batter was excellent and the chips were the best. none of it was greasy at all and it came in a box with grease proof paper. Everythin was freshly cooked which meant we had a bit of a wait as a large order appeared to be made up taking all the available ones that were cooked. Still we were in no rush and perhaps they tasted all the better for being fresh. The staff were helpful and friendly. It must be good because whilst we were there quite a queue of locals built up abot 6.30 ish.

We called in to get fish and chips to eat by the estuary earlier this week. It was absolutely stunning, batter was light and crispy - fish was beautifully cooked - chips were proper chip shop chips but not greasy at all. Curry sauce was also great. Can’t fault it, staff were friendly and efficient, the place was spotless and food was superb. Diolch!

A proper fish and chips shop, nice friendly service, freshly fried, took our take down to Poppit Sands to eat...stayed in Cardigan for 12 days and came back a 2nd time it was that good.

Sat in with my wife, son and newborn. I had large chips and wow that was a lot of chips. So incredibly moreish though. Fantastic food, fantastic service. Very popular with the locals which is always a good sign. Would definitely go back again!!!

Oven chips, excessively oily fish, watery curry sauce and a terrible sausage! Didn’t even have haddock, only hake...! Expensive food and tiny portions. Don’t bother going here, it’s not worth the money. It’s an offence to call this a chippy!

Came yesterday to get food for lunch- great portions, hot fresh food and the owners were friendly and lovely to us, if more places had customer service like this it would be fantastic. Have been here before and would highly recommend. We will be back

Waste of money! Tiny portion, chips that taste like oven chips and a very limited menu. I've had a lot of fish and chips over the years, and by far this is the worst place I've ever eaten at. Avoid like the plague folks.

Although there is only a small menu the food was cooked fresh and the cod and chips was brilliant. The staff were really helpful in regards giving advice of other local places to eat , drink and visit.

I was famished and fancied some chips, not been here before.I asked for a portion of chips, £2.30 she said, I paid her. She got out the tiniest tray I've ever seen. She put one and half scoops into the tray so I asked for more, her reply was you want more, buy more. There was only one price for chips, £2.30 I was flabbergasted and I still asked for more, she walked off and proceeded to speak in Welsh to her husband I presume which I thought was very rude. Me being me I apologised to the bloke though I wish I hadn't now as I ate all 27 chips within 1.5 minutes. Looking at their photos on here with chips on the scales,,, someone was lucky to get that many !!!They absolutely took advantage ...My photo here is the tray which held the 27 chips, small teelight candle next to it.

Always excellent fish and chips. Not sure how they cook the batter, but love it. Always receive a very warm welcome as s00n as you walk through the door.

What a fantastic little place. Superb, melt in the mouth fish and chips served in a spotlessly clean establishment. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be going back.

Lovely little chippy in st Dogmaels, we visited twice on our hols. The staff were very friendly and food very nice. They sell Bara brith which I thought was a bit random for a chippy but we bought some to take back home and very nice it was too. Would highly recommend this chippy and they have little cafe area and a car park across the road.

We just felt like fish and chips for a change. We called int Mr Bowen's and had possibly the best F & C that we've had in years.

We called in on a Thursday at 6pm. Order was 9 Cod and Chips with Mushy peas. It's a traditional chippy so very basic range but its good. The Cod was superb, nice and chunky. You can park for 30 mins free in the Car Park opposite while you place your order and collect. There's also a small seating area if you fancy a night out and it's licensed!

Thought it was pricey for what we got. Fish and batter were OK but chips were overpriced and very greasy. Mushy peas were ok as well but they don’t serve gravy. Not particularly impressed, compared with fish and chips we’ve had around the country especially in the northeast.

Plenty of chips, but it was far too greasy to enjoy. The little sachets of salt and vinegar wrapped in the meal were a good idea but were so greasy we abandoned them. Good value at £43 for 5 meals.

I purchased 4 take away fish and chips at the price of £25.10. The portion sizes were terrible but most alarming was the vast amount of grease. Got the chips home and they all went straight into the bin so we had to cross the river into Cardigan to buy the same again... pretty much a £50 take away for fish and chips... AVOID AT ALL COSTS! If I could give it 0 stars, I would. Horrific

£26.40 paid for my family’s dinner of cod and chips x 3 plus drinks, curry sauce and mushy peas. I wouldn’t begrudge this price had the quantity and quality been reasonable. The fish and portion of chips were half the size normally expected from your usual British chippy and the fish inside appeared to be two thin pieces on top of one another and battered. This left it so dry in places it would give Gandhis flip flop a run for its money. As a former chef I’m also not convinced it was cod as the texture was different and was likely frozen as it didn’t flake as fresh cod does. The chips tasted ok but were an unusual size more like an oven chip which left them a bit greasy. This was all wrapped together with a sachet of salt and vinegar which, after the journey home, were soaked in grease so you struggled to get into them. The guilty pleasure of the accompaniment of curry sauce was also a bit random, it was so runny it looked like it was drawn straight for the river Nile! I think it had hot water added to it to heat it up! This is not even mentioning the fact that they don’t do battered sausages... sausages yes, but obviously battering them is a step too far.

Not great chips were only warm curry sauce was very thin won’t be driving to the nearest chippy from we’re we are working again

After a walk along the coastal path from Tresaith, we popped here after a quick pint in the Ship Inn. Oh my, I am so pleased we did! The fish and chips here are fabulous and the curry sauce delights the senses. We have had fish and chips the length and breadth of the country and this is up there with the ones we had in Whitby. On our last night, we decided to visit again and took them back to Tresaith beach where we sat and watched the sun go down. Hubby had the squid and he dutifully informed me that it was cooked to perfection. Word of warning, go early Friday evening as it was packed as we were leaving.

Bought two lots of Fish and Chips on Saturday Lunchtime. All freshly cooked, good fresh products. Nice friendly owners, such a delightful change from the faceless chain style Fish & Chip shops.

We arrived at our cottage after a very slow 7 hour drive and just needed some sustenance and what better treat than the chippie, we asked for the best local one and Bowen’s always came up so we trotted off for good old fashioned holiday food lol.

The fish and chips was good, and it has tables to eat in. I had cod and chips and my friend had haddock, and neither of us had any complaints about the food.

We had take away fish ,chips, peas from here a couple of nights ,We both really enjoyed our food I had fish no batter which was really good and the peas were tasty .you could also sit in here to eat not a big area but very clean . Very friendly and welcoming gentleman and lady serving and spoke both Welsh and English . We will visit here again when next on holiday .

We live in the centre of Bristol where you can get fish and chips from a Michelin starred restaurant and they aren't as good as Bowen's! Great tender chunks or fish and perfect chips. They get busy sometimes but it's worth the wait.

A bit dissapointed with this plaice ! As wed been recommended to it, chips seemed frozen style ,fish was quite small ,pies microwaved and ive had much much a better quality and amount for a cheaper price elsewhere,although the owners were very nice !

Most expensive and the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. Very bland food, microwaved sides from the microwave behind the tills,not would I would expect when paying those prices. It’s not hard to make things fresh. Take the short trip to New Quay instead of going here.

A well run and respected chip shop which provides good quality food. Not the cheapest chip shop but you are served decent food from a very clean and well maintained establishment with friendly and efficient service. Would recommemd.

Pie and chips for 2 for just under £10 ! Chips were ok but small portion and the pie was small. Tasted ok and staff were nice and friendly, back home for cheaper than that it would have been a large portion of chips and a large pie.

Went in for a take away order whilst on holiday. Good food & had a nice chat with the people there. Really nice. Great to hear Welsh being spoken - the only time after a a week in Wales ! Only change I’d make would be an option for large portions of chips. Apart from that it’s bang on.

Always a welcome and food freshly cooked to perfection. A small restaurant is a great place to eat but may need to reserve a table at busy times. Fish and chips come with sachets of salt and vinegar to put on yourself. Well worth a visit.
