Bow Wharf Cafe in South Somerset

Usually visit here often as it’s a really nice place to eat, but sadly the service was poor, the food was really not good & cold , presented very badly & there was a vinegar type dressing under the burger, looked like the plate hadn’t been washed, I was going to complain while I was there but I had my autistic son with me & it would have distressed him. Not sure if it’s under new ownership or a new chef, really disappointed .

Absolute beautiful place. Amazing staff, so friendly and helpful. Food has top ingredients and tastes total phenomenal. I was informed could give more than 5☆.

I've eaten here many times and at times couldn't get a table it's been that popular. So I know how good the eating and atmosphere is there. However, todays experience wasn't great, we chose to sit outside and service didn't seem to happen with us having to go back inside to place orders. When our food arrived the baps were really average and the sausages were very poor. I'm hoping this is a blip I will be back but the food does need to improve. On a positive the coffe was good!

We received food poisoning from the sausage roll. We also had to chase the person to pay. Update. The owner has now replied in a dismissive and frankly idiotic manner, showing zero concern for our well-being — as though food poisoning isn’t a possibility at their establishment. The lack of accountability and basic food hygiene awareness is alarming. Thank you for addressing my concerns — though my original review was, in hindsight, far too generous. I’ve now updated it to reflect a more accurate experience. Avoid this place. The coffee was subpar, too. I'd suggest some serious re-training, but sadly, the owner appears beyond help. Well done. 👏🙂

A really lovely find, busy for a Friday morning (Easter weekend) but no trouble getting a table. Didn't look at the breakfast menu as we only wanted cake (but the food that was being served looked really good). Good service and happy staff. Reasonable prices, we paid £26 for 4 x cakes, 2 coffees and a cold can. The scones with clotted cream were absolutely amazing!!! Muffin and brownie were also tasty.

Looks nice, but food is decidedly underwhelming, we had a sausage and egg bap and pancakes. Sausages were cheap and tepid and the bread was nothing special. The pancakes were pre-made and probably bought in and warmed up. To be fair The food service was quick, because it was Pre cooked. But at the expense of quality in our opinion. Our tea and coffee also didn’t come until we had nearly finished our food which was not ideal… for the price not impressed I’m afraid.

Second visit in 8 months passing through the area. Wasn't disappointed with the food this time either. Had the burger which was huge, and very nicely cooked. Will be stopping here again if nearby.

Can't say enough good things about this place, the food is fantastic (stunning salads! Not just limp lettuce and a few tomato slices like most places). Always had friendly service and consistent quality. It can get really busy, and sometimes you do have to wait to be seated, but it's always worth it.

Lunch with family. It was crowded possibly because of half term and staff seemed to be doing their best. Crowded not only with people but with dogs. We are not in favour of dogs in restaurants and these were not only many but in the way and some were barking. Food not up to the standard I expect there. Couscous salad was dry. We won't be returning in a hurry.

I agree, it's terribly unorganised and quite unfriendly... we were left at the entrance for more than 10min without anyone really trying to engage with us... indeed we had no booking but midweek, mid November...at least, they could have been polite and address the situation by giving us some consideration and a reliable waiting time... we eventually left....

A warm retreat on a cold day. Great lunch menu choices and good coffee. Relaxed atmosphere with plenty of room around the table. Plenty of free parking on the road more or less opposite a d disabled parking right outside. Dog friendly

Pleasant Cafe in a historic riverside building. Food selection was varied, quality was good. No parking (except disabled) adjacent, but plenty available a short walk away.

Nicely presented however on both occasions we attempted to get coffee/food we had to leave before ordering - Unbelievably slow service given relatively small number of tables!

Really good breakfast options. We have been for lunch which was ok. Good space/atmosphere. Gets very busy at peak times book if possible. Disabled parking outside the main entrance.

This is an absolutely lovely cafe that welcomes dogs warmly. The staff are super, the atmosphere great and the food amazing. I had the quiche of the day; goats cheese and beetroot, served with a delicious fresh selection of kitchen salads. My friend had the cheese and bacon burger with fries and coleslaw which he said was also excellent. I highly recommend this cafe for both breakfast and lunch, either inside in the spacious dining room or outside by the river on the terrace.

I'd seen this restaurant many times and always wanted to try it so today I took two friends there for lunch. What a disappointment! We all had quiches and salads. As soon as the plate was put in front of me my heart sank. It just looked horrible. The plate was crowded with a selection of mushy looking cooked salads and I simply cannot believe they were freshly prepared. And the quiche was just not very nice, though I did manage to eat most of it- but only through hunger. I managed a few mouthfuls of the limp lettuce which was the freshest thing on the plate but avoided the couscous which my friend told me was hard and uncooked. Honestly, it was a hot day and I just wanted a delicious quiche and a simple fresh salad with cucumber, tomato and normal fresh ingredients. What I got a miss mash of school dinner type slop, beans, pasta and over cooked stuff and it was not fresh. And while I'm at it, I don’t like sharing a restaurant with barking dogs. The staff were perfectly nice and did ask if everything was OK - they obviously saw we hadn't eaten much - and I didn’t complain at the time cos I did want to make a fuss with my friends. It was only when we got outside that I realized that none of us had enjoyed the lunch and agreed it was pretty grim. So it wasn't just me. Why can't restaurants now focus more on freshness, taste and simplicity instead of cramming our plates full of poor quality food. I shall not be going there again a hurry.

We had a quick lunch stop on our way back from holiday. The food was top notch, friendly and welcoming staff giving excellent service all round. Highly recommended.

Salad? just a bunch of lettuce leaves, no tomatoes or cucumber or spring onions or radishes. Not much effort there.

A lovely place to get something go eat or just a drink. Nice decor, plenty of seating. It was very busy when we rocked up without booking, but we only had to wait a few minutes for a table. The waiting staff were on point. The food was really good with generous portions. Plenty of vegetarian options as well as some gluten free.

Delicious food and the staff are always very friendly and helpful. Very helpful with my unusual allergy. The atmosphere is lovely but it gets very busy quickly and sometimes this can make the room very loud especially with barking dogs but it's lovely to have somewhere where dogs are welcome

First time visiting this place, staff and service spot on, and the full English I had was the best, I do a lot of motorcycle ride outs, and it always means a breakfast stop, so I have sampled a few 😋 definitely will be recommending this place and return soon. Good job guys 🤗🤗

Lovely place to have lunch! Dog friendly which is super. Food was absolutely amazing and all freshly prepared. I have found a place that does a very nice caramel iced coffee. Would highly recommend booking as on a beautiful sunny day does get quite busy.

First time for a year or so. I'm sorry to say the quality of food was not that good. The ploughmens was well below par. I had a sausage panini which had really thin slices in so could hardly taste the sausage. And they got my order wrong so my husband had nearly finished his meal before mine arrived. Very disappointed as we used to love this place.

Easy-going informal atmosphere. Really friendly. Nice outside area by the river with nooks out of the wind.

Thoroughly enjoyed lunch on Mother’s Day. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food. Really good food portions, and a large variety of homemade cakes. The waitress and kitchen staff were very knowledgeable with allergies and were very accommodating to adjust their menu so my nephew could enjoy his lunch. Disable / Baby changing facilities available, large enough to have the pushchair in and space to move around. Looking forward to my next visit already.

Great dog friendly place, they even had a small dog menu! Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Would recommend arriving early if you want to have lunch or make reservations beforehand. We arrived at 11.30am on a Monday and managed to get one of the last free tables. When we left the whole place was full and people were waiting outside in a queue.

Good food, nice house salads. Easy place to eat. Parking is in the public car park down the road.

just driving around and wanted a stop for coffee and a snack till we went back home, we noticed 'the kitchen 'after we had passed it we said that looks interesting. so turned backI am disabled so have to find accessible places, so my wife parked up the car to do a reccy and found although busy there was a table and it was very accessible for my wheelchair. as we arrived at the table we were given menu's a few minutes another very pleasant waitress came up to us asking for our order for drinks and food. we were so impressed with the restaurant.and the staff. there was a delay in bringing the food and drinks to our table and we had to remind the staff we are still waiting, she was most apologetic and retrieved our order and put it through as urgent the order arrived within a few minutes and was cooked to perfection with more apologies, we were both asked after a couple of minutes whether our food was up to expectations, which it was.this is one of very few reviews I have done but all in all I cannot review highly enough and we will certainly visit the area again if only to visit the Kitchen at the Wharf. This is my go-to when meeting clients in Somerset. The food is always excellent, a wonderful, warm atmosphere whatever the time of year and the service is always good.

Visited on a very busy Sunday morning. Our server let us know there was a wait as they had recently seated a group of 10....Makes such a difference when you know 😀 Excellent veggie breakfast.

A relaxed open space with flexi dining tables and chairs and similar on Riverside 'courtyard '. Buzzy but not frenzy with bar/ coffee-bar. Fixed and specials menu, veggie options, great chef's salads. Could do with more service staff and more comfy chairs.

This place rocks in every way, I'm not even gonna start, super dope. However it's a flippin travesty it isn't open on the evenings, it has all the hallmarks of a destination restaurant for all the right reasons. It would easily be the best in South Somerset. And would be the twinkle in Langport's eye.

Thank you for the most memorable special Birthday Christmas afternoon tea. The afternoon tea was amazing, all selections, gluten free, vegetarian and normal. Delicious, plentiful and well presented. Staff were great and service was faultless. Would highly recommend and the special Birthday Cake simple excelled what was a very brilliant afternoon.

Very inaccessible, even on a motorcycle! Lots of space outside for us to stop, but they wouldn't let us use it. Much more welcoming at The Bridge on the other side of the river.

From the minute we walked in the door we were greeted by super staff, lovely food and atmosphere. I was worried about my vegan option having a bit of chilli in it as I am not a lover of heat in food and it was no problem for chef when asked by the waitress to give me a small sample to make sure it was not to hot for me and it wasn't! Our waitress that eve was brilliant, so attentive and making sure we were all ok without disturbing us too much which is a fine line to achieve and the actual meal was superb! My family and I would not hesitate to go back again and will do in the future, a great experience, thank you!

Had a cream tea, although they don't do it as package, you have to buy the drink, scones and cream and jam separately, which is a bit odd. Also no food menus, so you have to strain your neck hope your eye sight is good enough to see the board. However the food is delicious, the fruit scones were massive and very tasty and generous size teapot for two. Very busy so I guess popular with the locals in Langport. We only come across the cafe because we researched where to go for a good cream tea. Also available is outdoor seating by the river and dog friendly.

Overly large portions made it unnecessarily expensive, although the food was very good. Service was good and staff were helpful and just attentive enough. Lovely atmosphere, eventhough it was quite a large place.

Got sat at a table where you can’t fit your legs underneath because our table was needed 30 minutes later

A very relaxed atmosphere pervades thanks to incredibly friendly and hard working staff. Our meal was exceptional. The grilled cheese sandwich was heavy from the weight of the cheese and that made it perfect for dunking in the flavoursome roasted tomato and basil soup. A great place to hang out, especially if you love dogs (allowed inside and out).

Had lunch with an old friend followed by a river trip - perfect

20 minute wait for weak watery coffee (worse than Costa, and that's saying something) mid morning Monday. Generous portion of delicious Brownie. Very nice indoor and outdoor seating, it might be me but it feels too corporate and expensive and doesn't hit all the high notes you would expect from the overall ambience.
