Borgotaro in Dundee City

Had a lovely meal here last night. The food was really good and the staff were very helpful and happy. Will be back again soon.

They give you a complimentary little antipasto and a liqueur at the end which is a nice touch but the food is terrible. I started with arancini which were a bit dry and strangely they were served with a Thai dipping sauce, the type you can buy in a bottle at any supermarket. I chose the Veal Polpette as a main expecting lovely, luscious meatballs but they were so tough I could hardly cut them never mind chew them so I sent them back. I ordered Spaghetti Bolognese instead but it was so overdone with dried herbs I gave up on it. One of my party went for the Ragu di Cervo ( braised venison ) with tagliatelle but it was really strong of cinnamon and became quite sickly. The pizza bases were quite ' cardboardy ' in consistency and the toppings poor and not fresh tasting. We didn't bother with dessert. The staff were pleasant and helpful in the circumstances. Borgotaro is situated in a hotel which also serves bar meals, I suspect all the food is made by the same people.

Listen up..this place is a 'kid on' Italian restaurant and only the name suggests it is.The food is way below par and the prices are too expensive. Like most patrons, Iv'e been once but wont be back. The decor is the only positive thing about the restaurant

The service was fab and the restaurant itself very cosy. Unfortunately, though, we won’t be going back there due solely to the food. I had minestrone soup followed by lasagne and side salad. I am not a fussy eater but the minestrone soup was a disappointment and the lasagne didn’t resemble or taste anything like lasagne and lasagne is what I generally get in every Italian restaurant I visit .My husband had the mussels followed by venison tagliatelle. He thought the mussels were very good , but the tagliatelle was disappointing . Pity, as we were so looking forward to it . (We were the only ones in the restaurant from when we arrived at 7.30pm until we left ,but apparently a party of people had just left when we arrived .)

Had a wonderful meal at Borgotaro with our family. Lovely atmosphere, excellent service and food was delicious. I would definitely recommend the restaurant.

Thought we would give it a go after so many recommendations and what a fantastic place to have a lovely meal. Was late in booking this for a Friday but the girl I spoke to did her very best to get us in, and we were willing to wait as they did get us in, Thank you. Food/drinks was really good and prices very fair. My steak was lovely cooked to my liking too which is rare to get it so close, thank you chef!! Meal was made even better by the lovely service of the girls that were looking after us. Lovely setting and busy evening for them, well done.Thank you for a very lovely evening, will be booking again and letting others know to come here. I come here often and it is always an amazing experience, I had the Rigatoni Trastevere which is lovely and my partner the spicy Rigatoni Con Sugo. Staff always very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend!!

My friend and I booked a table here for dinner. We had mussels and garlic mushrooms to start, pasta for both our mains. The food was average, every course really oily actually. The balsamic used in the restaurant is disappointing. Cheap and watery. The breads could be much better, I love focaccia but it was only offered as a pizza version. We were given two very small slices before our starters came, which were very oily also. Offering finger bowls with mussels would be helpful to your customers. The dessert options are lacking. My favourite Italian dessert being tiramisu, wasn’t even on the menu. The restaurant inside is nice enough, but would be even nicer if you didn’t have to look into a club/bar which the restaurant is joined onto. Very evident that the owner and the chef aren’t Italian.

I went to Borgotaro last night with my Wife and a couple of friends. We hadn't been before and were looking forward to a nice Italian meal. My goodness, it was awful. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our table. We ordered drinks and looked at the pretty standard Italian menu. To start, I had Minestrone. It was weird. It tasted like it had come out of a tin, and it had bits of meat in it. I've never had meat in a Minestrone before and I'm pretty sure that it isn't supposed to be there. The rest of our party had Gamberoni, Funghi al Forno and Calamari and they said that their starters were nice. I ordered the Veal Milanese for main course, as did my friend Steve. When it came, it was pale, the crumb coating was greasy and missing in places, and the veal was tough. We both sent our meals back, explaining what was wrong. We also had to send back the side of Spinach we'd ordered as it had gone cold. The Waitress was very apologetic and came back to advise that she had given our feedback to the Chef, and that new dishes were being prepared. The Girls got on with their mains, which were Rigatoni with Italian Sausage, and Risotto with Gorgonzola. Feedback on the Pasta was good, but my Wife said that her Risotto tasted nice, but was dry, and she thought that it had been reheated before serving. Our replacement Veal dishes arrived and, if anything, they were worse than the originals. They looked to me as if they had been deep fried but, however they were prepared, they had been left to long in oil that was not hot enough so, again, they were greasy and tough. When we complained for a second time, the Waitress said that she would ask her Manager to come and speak with us. He completely refused to accept that anything was wrong and stated that he had tried our first dishes and thought they were fine. I told him that we disagreed, and I again explained what was wrong. He simply would not accept what we were saying and said that the only problem was that we should have been given a steak knife. Ridiculous. We decided to give up at this point, so my Italian meal ended up consisting of a bowl of bad Minestrone. When the bill came, the Veal dishes had been removed, but the sides of Spinach had been charged. Steve went to address this and, whilst I was not party to the conversation, he said that the Owner was again argumentative and refused to accept that anything was wrong. We left shortly after that, leaving cash to cover the bill. We had just got outside when one of the waiting staff came out to tell us that we have not paid our full bill, and were £10 short. I am pretty sure that we left the correct money, but we couldn't be certain, so we paid the £10. All in all, a pretty bad experience, made worse by the arrogance of the Owner. We'll certainly never go here again, and I wouldn't advise anyone else to go either.

great food. great atmosphere. great service. everything was just what I hoped for for me and my friends. will go back for sure.

6 of us went there for a birthday dinner and ALL ot US where "VERY HAPPY " presentation, taste where WELL ABOVE EXPECTATIONS. and the head chef was supposed to be not on that night. all I can say is that he trained his 2nd in charge very well. the only fly in the ointment we all agreed on was that the w/wine was not chilled at all and that a wine cooler should have been provided when serving the wine.

Got a late booking for 20:30 and had to wait for table which wasn't ready in pretty awful bar. We got our starters and wine ok, but after waiting nearly 45 minutes for our mains arriving we thought has enough was enough and bailed out. Settled up for our starters and wine. Really shocking customer service. Offered another booking with discount - politely declined - we've go elsewhere. Food that we had was pretty good - and so had others has ordered looked good. Hopefully a one off?

I had intended to go to Bellini but it was closed so I booked here instead. I had mussels to start & followed by veal scaloppini, washed down with red wine. I finished with coffee with complimentary liqueur. All in all excellent food good service, reasonable price. I was glad Bellini was shut & will certainly go back.

Stopped by here because we wanted italian, and we had a great meal and got great service. The pasta we ordered wa excellent on taste amd good portions

I have been 3 times recently and it has been excellent every time. The linguini marinara was amazing and the tagliatelle with venison was really good too.

The food was very, very tasty but 2 of us ordered vegan dish which was described as containing artichoke hearts and olives. There were neither. It was very good. Vegan chocolate mousse on menu...but none available. It would have been 4 stars but unable to have affogato as the coffee machine was broken. The serving staff were excellent; quick, polite, smiling and helpful.

Went here with 5 friends to celebrate the end of our course we'd been studying together since January. Lovely meal, delicious all round - Anrancini, Rigatoni with spicy sausage, then Afogato. Accompanied by a very nice bottle of reasonably priced Italian wine, coffee, and a Limoncello digestif. Staff were very attentive and helpful. Recommended, I would go back and take my Italian partner with me next time!

We ate here whilst on a 2-day break to Dundee and would have no hesitation in going back as this was one of the BEST meals out I have experienced in a long time! Staff were welcoming and the restaurant was clean/well presented. There is a wide variety of food choices, something for everyone. The food was all freshly prepared and tasted wonderful 10/10! Good sized portions, all at a reasonable price. The desserts did not disappoint either; Banoffee Pie was heavenly! There was a delay between ordering the food and getting it, we waited almost an hour but we put this down to it being very busy. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant and will definitely go back again.

The place was packed on a Thursday night but luckily we had reservations. We started with a couple of appetizers including Brushetta and some beers which tided us over until our dinners of pizza and calzone arrived, both of which were very tasty.

La mayoría de la comida estaba bien, pero mi marido y yo conseguimos nuestro plato favorito de pasta Carbonara. Decepcionantemente la salsa en la mía se partió. Mi marido estaba un poco mejor con aproximadamente la mitad de la salsa. Ok, pero parte de ella también se dividió, así que fue un espagueti con huevo revuelto para los dos. No creo que el chef realmente entienda carbonara. Si hace demasiado calor el huevo se va a cocinar. Algunos restaurantes no habrían servido eso. Pero el restaurante siempre está ocupado, así que deben estar haciendo algo bien.

¡Viaje rápido de chicos! El proceso de registro fue rápido y fácil, nos alojamos en la habitación 44 del piso 32, que estaba limpia, ordenada y con clase. La habitación tenía todo lo que necesitábamos. Hicimos el juego habitual y la bebida. Nos tomamos unas copas en el bar y en Gypsy Bar, excelentes lugares para escuchar música. Las bebidas eran fuertes y la cena en el Old Home Stead fue de primera categoría. Asegúrate de pedir un piso más alto.

We arrived for our table at 7.45pm on a quiet Tuesday, We were on holiday so thought we would go when it was not too busy. We were shown to our table, before we even had our coats off we were asked if we wanted the wine menu, we said yes in a moment. The waiter brought it over and asked if we were ready to order, i said no as we had not looked at the menu yet, he asked 3 times before we had even looked at the wine menu, we had only been there around 5 minutes. Eventually we ordered, the starters which were good as were the mains. We were quickly asked if we wanted a dessert, i asked if we could wait as we have just finished and asked if the restaurant was still open, the reply was, no it is closed we are waiting on dessert orders ! at 9pm !! we were also told it was the latest place open in the Ferry !, We ordered dessert , we were asked if we would like limoncello or sambuka, we were not told this was part of the menu, i asked if it was and was told yes, but had we not have known might have said no , We felt we were hurried out, no offers of coffees or drinks, We ordered £75 worth of food and drink and were out in an hour and a half ! I was looking forward to an evening out not a quick meal. I feel disappointed, but have to say the food was very good, we must have visited on an off night and feel we spent a lot for an hour and a half night out . Not sure if we would return /

Visited this restaurant again on a very quiet Tuesday evening having sat down at a table at Wetherspoons and leaving due to dirty tables, uninspiring menu and lack of customer service there. What a refreshing change to have top end service and food, although as a quiet Tuesday not so busy in the restaurant. Both meals were superb and of the highest quality and would again recommend everyone to visit and sample the best Italian Food in Broughty Ferry if not all of Tayside.

Visited for the first time last night. Shared seafood pizza and pasta with my friend and they were both delicious. Thank you. We WILL be back

Visited here with partner, I had the chicken funghi with potatoes, the sauce is beautiful and tasty, my partner had the pasta carbonara which she thought was a bit sludgy and she didn’t enjoy it, lovely restaurant all the same.

Muy buena comida Pedimos pizza y 2 platos de pasta, papas fritas y una pequeña ensalada César. Todo estaba muy sabroso. Tuve la pasta de jabalí, pero me dijeron que no quedaba jabalí, por lo que sería reemplazado por venado. Quién sabe si en realidad era venado, pero fue muy agradable y tierno. La otra pasta que mi compañero tenía también era muy sabrosa. Como era la pizza. Las patatas fritas también eran lo suficientemente agradables y la ensalada era fresca y abundante solo por ser un "pequeño". Tomamos un poco de cerveza que pedimos en el bar, ya que no había mucha variedad en el menú del restaurante y no nos gusta mucho el vino italiano. Muy agradable en general y sin duda lo recomendaría. Solo el servicio podría ser un poco mejor, pero solo las chicas jóvenes están pasando, así que, ¿qué más se puede esperar realmente?

We did not stay at the hotel, but dined in the restaurant. The food was freshly prepared, hot and delicious. I had a steak pie with chips and beans whilst my wife enjoyed home-made lasagne with sides of garlic bread and coleslaw that were also made on the premises. It is good pub fare, but high quality.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit on Wednesday night. Good menu at very reasonable price, well cooked food and excellent service.

Last Friday my husband and I had a meal here and the the food was excellent. The menu is very good and would highly recommend it. Can't say enough about the staff and sorry if I spelt your name wrong Sunny was an amazing waitress and really made our night, so thank you. Hopefully see you again soon.

Mi esposo y yo visitamos Borgotaro regularmente y nos encanta la comida aquí. Yo, en particular, disfrutar de la carne. No es un gran menú, pero hay mucha variedad y los precios son razonables.

The food and service were really very good - and prices very reasonable. Service was good, portions generous, and food (to me) seemed authentically Italian. I couldn’t fault it. We’ve been on a couple of occasions before - and will certainly be back.

Tuvimos una gran comida aquí. Nos trajeron un poco de aceite y vinagre con pequeños trozos de pizza mientras estábamos esperando, un buen toque. Tuve el primer plato de berenjena que estaba delicioso y los platos principales eran igual de buenos. Buenas botellas de Prosecco y el vino tenía un precio razonable.

Service not too good overall. We arrived just before the time we'd booked for and we were sent to the bar where the service was good.

Table booked for a teenage birthday ad a treat. Well, the treat was for everyone as the plates duly arrived. Each meal was polished off with great aplomb. Portion sizes were more than enough for even myself which is a compliment in itself. The restaurant allowed us to bring a birthday cake as dessert which was appreciated. Despite limited times available due to other bookings we were not chased out. All added up to a great occasion.

Had a really great meal here but do not understand why the same price is charged for a vegetarian option of a listed chicken dish 🤔. Have only given 4 stars because of this

Visited here on a Saturday night, were lucky to get a table without booking as the room is quite small but tables are not pushed close together like other places. The food was served very efficiently, with just the right amount of time in between ordering and serving courses. The complimentary bread and olives was a nice touch. Would highly recommend to anybody visiting Broughty Ferry, will definitely be back!

Friendly welcome from staff, small place but a luvly atmosphere, visited with friends on a Friday evening. we all ordered pasta dishes, all came freshly made and delicious, will visit again :)

We were here as a large table (11) and the food was absolutely amazing! Everyone enjoyed their food and my grandparents (who don’t like Italian) were able to order off of the pub menu. I took away a star because i have dairy allergy and was told they could make anything without the cheese but the meatballs had been made with cheese in them as had the Italian sausage pasta dish. The only option i had was the spag bol but it was the best spag bol i have tasted in years so very happy!

Hadn't been here for a while,not through choice but because it's always busy,so I was looking forward to Saturday.

We went here to celebrate my birthday and had a lovely time. The food was good and, the service excellent. There was a wide choice of dishes and, as vegetarians, we weren't stuck for choice.

Very good Italian restaurant and we'll worth a visit. Quality of food was excellent. Calzone was one of the best I've ever had. Small venue.

We ate here on a Saturday night and it was very busy. Service was ok, room very small, have eaten in much better Italian restaurants, food was ok but nothing special. Wouldn't eat here again.

Always advisable to book a table as restaurant quite small. First visit and will definitely be back. Good service with friendly staff and complimentary Limoncello to finish meal was nice touch.

Resultados es un pequeño restaurante italiano al lado de la fortaleza Hotel de Broughty Ferry. El Marsala es delicioso Pollo Florentino como es el tagliatelle 3.3.0 Champiñón y no me puedo quejar de la Pizza Siciliana con un topping de salami picante. A un precio muy razonable, pero mejor reservar con antelación ya que el restaurante es pequeño y volviéndose muy popular.

Visited last night the quality of the food and staff couldn't be faulted. Lots of choices on the menu also a good and reasonable priced wine list.

Once again the food was excellent,from nibbles to start to the sweet,every part were delicious.I had tagliatelle with meatballs(again)and the were as good as ever and when you're being served by great staff it makes the night.Will be back for more.

Can honestly say that this is the best food that I've had for along time and way better than any other Italian that I've been to. If your in the area this is a must and if you live in dundee , Angus, fife or surrounding areas you won't be disappointed.

We are regulars to The Fort but this is the first time we had tried the Italian Restaurant. We were not disappointed. The setting was very tastefully decorated , the food was exceptional and cooked to perfection ( sirloin steak and seafood risotto ) and the service was brilliant and just right. Saturday night out with friends and we had booked here(you have to).We had drinks at the bar before going into the restaurant,it's a really lovely setting small but big enough to give everyone their own space.We ordered our meals from Megan and Boab(you know who you are).After the usual appetiser of bread,olives and olive oil with balsamic vinegar we got our food.I had the wild boar with tagliatelle that was delicious,my wife had salmon pasta and finished the lot,all followed with ports and limoncello,a great night.

We came here for lunch but didn't get that far. Ordered 2 Sauvignon blancs, a Pinot Grigio and a rosé. All terrible. We left to go somewhere we could enjoy both food and drink. Shame because the menu looked great.

First time visitor and will definitely be back,couldn't fault a thing,Food excellent service excellent very friendly and knowledgeable staff.Great atmosphere, restaurant very busy as it was new year's eve but the staff very efficient and no time wasted between courses. We had bread, oil and olives as a free amuse bouche, great antipasti misto starter...very generous portion, fabulous pizza and an outstanding seafood linguine with huge juicy prawns. Gorgeous lemony white wine...Chilean. Lovely waitress, decor and welcome. Will definitely go back. £65 for 3 people.

Borgotaro is a restaurant attached to the Fort Hotel. The food is excellent, as is the selection of wines. As the venue is small, so it is advisable to book in advance as the weekends are very busy.

The good really is good - freshly made and tasty.Service good too.Only neg is the lighting - too bright above some tables.Will def be back.

Once again they excelled themselves,the food was amazing.I had the mussels as my main course and there was plenty of them and cooked to perfection and plenty of bread to mop up the sauce,my wife had the veal which she demolished .The drinks and complimentary liqueurs rounded off a great night

We visited this restaurant after reading the rave reviews on TA. Fabulous find, courteous staff, excellent food and lovely peaceful romantic atmosphere. Looking forward to a return visit to this area and restaurant very soon.

We celebrated our daughters birthday at this fantastic Italian Restaurant. To start with the young lady (sorry we did not get her name) blonde, petite, welcomed us in to the restaurant and nothing was too much trouble for her, service with a smile at all times, wonderful. The food absolutely gorgeous, when we are back in Broughty Ferry, this is where we will always dine.

Honestly I am very sad to say it but it has been a big disappointment.I came to the borgotaro because I am Italian but live in Dundee and wanted to try a pizza from "apparently" someone with same roots as mine.I asked for a simple margarita pizza to take away and to my surprise I have been told that they were too busy with a group inside to prepare one for me.This is the first and only time so far that I have this kind of answer.Very disappointed and won't return.

Enjoyed dinner and would not hesitate in recommending this eatery, great atmosphere and superb menu with something for all. Loved the pasta, taste was good, and would go there again.

Food was good and plentifully with a large selection of starters, pasta and pizza main courses which satisfied everyone in our party of 7. The service was very efficent even though the restaurant was full.

Went for dinner with friends who are wide travelled and enjoy Italian cuisine. We were not disappointed. Excellent service, food and wine and hope to be returning soon.

Lovely little Italian restaurant attached to the Fort Hotel. Staff were really friendly and attentive. The food was really tasty and portions for adults were just right size. Kids spaghetti bolognase was a bit too generous. We had a focaccia that was really tasty too. If you are in the area give it a go.

We booked at short notice. Service was impeccable. Food couldn't be faulted. It was absolutely delicious. Gluten free beer by the pint!!!! Fantastic. I would go back again without doubt.

Beautiful Italian restaurant. Authentic surroundings, gorgeous design and intimate, special dining. We have been here on a few occasions and every time the food is exquisite, piping hot which is brilliant and very reasonably priced. The waitress and all the staff are so thoughtful and caring and look after everyone they serve and more, they are a real asset to the working and success of this restaurant as are the owners and of course the brilliant chef. I shouldn't really put this on Trip Advisor as we struggle now to get a table booked as more and more people are finding this hidden gem. AMAZING.

Excellent menu choice and great service from pleasant waiter without being obtrusive. Food was delicious fresh and flavoursome. Choose a red house wine which was good but were unable to tackle a dessert as everyone was full. Pleasant surroundings and very reasonably priced. Will definately eat here again if back in the area!

A welcoming place with great service and food. A very varied menu with plenty of choice and unusually rabbit was on the menu and it was delicious. Everyone appeared to be having a good time and my lasagne was very good as was the house wine (red).I do wish that I had tried the sea bass but I'll have that next time!The tiramisu was fantastic.

Went to Borgotaro for a birthday treat having seen a good review in the newspaper.The food was very good with one exception. The mozzarella frita was soggy and not crisp on the outside, so this starter was not eaten. We all had a pasta dish for a main course, the only comment was there was far too much for us. However that did not stop us having desert - a step too far for me.it's nicely decorated but not too big so booking would be advisable, especially at weekends.The waiting staff were excellent

Lovely meal in great surroundings. Fresh tasting ingredients, great tastes with a good choice in wines. We will be back again!!

We are regulars to the town of Borgotaro the town is know for good food and this restaurant delivered on every level. I loved my meal, lovely place and staff. No complaints at all, well worth a visit

Visited for a mid week dinner, we had no booking but were able to get a table. Restaurant looks great and we loved that it was small only 6 tables or so. Waiter was fab, food was beautiful, I ordered from with grill tasted great, however portions are slightly small for what you pay but flavours and presentation made up for this. My boyfriends pasta plate off the regular menu it's was larger for sure he again very much enjoyed his plate. We ordered deserts after dinner, the espresso with ice cream and as I can't eat much cream or dairy the waiter was kind enough to to check if I was able to have something from the regular bar menu which didn't seem like a problem.Only 3 small things I'd say are not really an issue, the pub quiz in a Wednesday is done right next to the door for the restaurant and whenever the door was opened it was extremely loud. However this can't rely be helped.Please get wine coolers again not a huge thing but would be great to have them!Last of all, we heard staff getting in to trouble at one point which happens but not something we want to hear over dinner but also not greatly professional on the part of the person in charge.

Staff were very helpful, food was great. Atmosphere good. Had a lovely meal with my wife. Broughty Ferry really is a wonderful place to eat and drink. Will definitely come back. Only downside was they couldn't confirm my booking straight away and misheard my number so I had to phone back.

This was a first visit and we were very impressed particularly by the table service provided by "Big Michael". We opted for a couple of starters between four which was just as well, as the pizzas which we had choosen for our main course were enormous. Nice touches with the inclusion of complimentary bread and olives to start and a lemoncello or sambuca to round off the meal. A very pleasant night all round.

First time visit to Borgotaro and was very impressed. Food was very reasonably priced and the service by Ann our waitress was first class. We will certainly be back and recommend the restaurant to others.

Veal comprises a rather thin and lost piece of meat on a large plate - no sides included and at £16.50 this was just not worth the money. The portion of Parmesan chips were similarly over-priced working out at around 30p per chip! To be fair the lasagne was good but overall, this was just not a place where value for money prevailed.

Delicious food, big portions and great value. Very attentive and courteous service from Ann. We will be back.

Anniversary meal with wife and friends and have to say it was a great night.As usual the food was delicious my Rigatoni was wonderful and the Mussels were too,everyone enjoyed their meals and very little was left, all served by Ann and Kirsten who did a great job keeping the drinks flowing.And last but not least thanks to Johnnie for the drinks,much appreciated.

We have tried several times to book a table without success so were pleased to finally secure one. We were not disappointed. The ambience and the food were first class and the attention and service provided by the lovely Ann were both courteous and appropriate. Will definitely make greater efforts to book future visits.

Had a lovely pizza. Staff when asked did say almost anything could be made vegetarian but could perhaps be clearer on the menu maybe a more detailed menu in general... Calzone perhaps. Will be back very soon after a fantastic quiet meal with my wife for our anniversary.

Word of mouth encouraged us to try this restaurant and we were not disappointed. It is small but atmospheric. The menu is not extensive but it provided us with ample choices. Excellent quality of food and thoughtfully presented.

We booked last minute and were lucky to get in as it was busy even for a Monday night. From the minute we stepped in we were treated like royalty. Our waitress was welcoming,knowledgeable about the menu, friendly and attentive. We are in the hospitality business ourselves and believe me Borgotaro has found a gem in this girl! The menu had a wide choice, all reasonably priced. We each had something different so were able to have a taste of a few dishes. Every dish was superb. It was well presented and tasted fabulous. 10/10 to the chef. You won't leave hungry, but will want to go back for more! Looking forward to our next visit. Thank you for a lovely evening. It was exceptional!

We booked this restaurant on the back of a friends recommendation and we were not disappointed. The restaurant has a superb intimate ambience, the timing of the foods arrival at our table was spot on, the waitress on duty was extremely helpful in suggesting which wine we had with our meal and was very pleasant and efficient throughout our visit. Like my friend I would thoroughly recommend Borgotaro to anyone wishing an excellent culinary experience.

A tiny restaurant. Finishes serving very early (I am from London, maybe this is the norm for Scotland?). Had a funny experience. The main waitress/manager was brilliant with us when they were running late with our table. Later in the evening she ignored us. She sat in the restaurant on her computer. Strange. Food OK. Pizza base on Calzone more like pastry. Listed as hot - didn't hit the scale at all. We initially booked for another visit but canx on reflection.

Visited Friday night and restaurant was busy and the atmosphere was good. Menu looked good and a pasta, a pizza and the veal was ordered. When the meals came the pasta and pizza looked tasty and were, however a plate came with a piece of veal with a sauce and nothing else. At over £16 and nothing else and no mention of this when ordering, it then required a portion of chips to be ordered. This resulted in quick response from the waitress but did make it awkward with 2 eating and one waiting for the rest of the meal. Why no vegetables were included to compliment the veal, given the price and no mention by the staff was unacceptable and should be changed.However on a positive note the waiting staff did turn the situation around and my thanks to them for their efforts which should have not been required.Overall we would recommend trying the restaurant but would suggest missing out the grill menu unless it has been changed.

Food was very high quality! Recommend arancini balls comes with an amazing red pepper relish which has a small kick to it. Also pasta and pizza was amazing too! Nice fresh dough as well.

We had a fantastic meal for my friend's birthday. All meals were cooked perfectly and enjoyed by all, and the service from both waitresses was really attentive and friendly. Would love to go back and will be recommending to friends and family.

Had such a lovely evening at the Borgotaro restaurant. Our meals were most delicious and perfect in every way from beginning to end. The waitresses, Kirsten and Ann, were welcoming, friendly, highly efficient and very attentive. I would highly recommend this restaurant. My husband and I will definitely be back. Very well done team Borgotaro !

We booked here based on the recent newspaper articles saying it won best Italian in the area. It's a small restaurant, decorated modernly. We took my mum for her birthday. Food was very good. My mum wanted veal but in breadcrumbs so the staff & kitchen did breadcrumbs for her even though it wasn't how the dish was meant to be served. Servers were polite & helpful. Bread & dipping oils were provided while waiting for our starters. I had lasagne which was pretty average. My brother had the carbonara which he said was good.I wasn't keen on the desserts & as they had run out of cheesecake I opted not to have a dessert the birthday girl had the pannacotta which she thoroughly enjoyed. All in all a good meal but we all agreed that ciao Sorrento or don Michele's is better
