Bombay Spice in Southend-on-Sea

I used to come to this restaurant regularly 3-4 years back but it was my first time back this evening since then and what a disappointment. I ordered a Jalfrezi and it tasted nothing like that. Also, the chicken was a bit rubbery. Certainly won’t be coming back! Shame.

Food was ok with good portions. But there was no welcome, no smiles. Was made to feel like they didn't want us to be there. We left a tip and didn't even get a thank you. Was almost empty too. I'm not really surprised about that.

The food is good, but the service is not good. Pity. I think eventually people will stop going there as there are so many choices on the Broadway. By bad service I mean not welcoming, and bad attitude and way of talking to us. We didn't let it bother us and just laughed and ignored it, but it will eventually get a bad reputation. Although I have only given 2 'points', that is for the service. The food is very good.

Not allowed alcohol. Ok if you’re 12 but freedom of choice would be ok, why would you not be allowed a drink and a curry on a rare night out

The rudest of rude staff ! The sign said ‘Open’ when we got there at 21:45 so we asked for a table for 4. “Only if you are quick” was the response ! When we started to try and order there was more rudeness from the staff so we left and walked out. Will never go again because it’s not the first time it’s happened. The food is normally ok, but the staff make it seem like they are doing you a favour by allowing you in.

The food was OK but I won't be going back because the waiters were rude, no smiles and very unabliging.

I ordered through Just Eat two hours ago and I have since phoned up twice to be told that I need to sort it out myself through Just Eat. Not apologetic at all and I have been waiting all evening to have a nice meal with my family. Really not impressed.

We booked in advance for 4 of us on Saturday evening at 9pm. We arrived and it was empty not a single person in the restaurant should have just turned round. Not a good sign. Food was average at best. Waiting staff looked like they didn’t want to be there. First and last time we will be going here.

Popadoms we’re poor, sauces were definitely watered down and the chicken was tough. When we mentioned about the sauces, the waiter just laughed. The staff were disinterested, chatting and staring the whole time, making me feel very uncomfortable. We were not asked once how the food was and when we paid, we didn’t get a single comment or ‘thank you’ from the waiter. We will definitely NOT be returning!

second time I've been here with friends and food and service has been great both times! The food is spicy however that how I like my curries!

Wow a really disappointing meal let down by the poor service The waiters were a disgrace No smiles, no hello they couldn’t be bothered to work in this restaurant Food quality good, nice quality and good size portions even good value However the experience in a nice looking restaurant was pathetic Come on guys show some enthusiasm to your Leigh on Sea customers My suggestion is to avoid this restaurant until the owner shows his staff how to treat customers it’s that bad and simple to fix!

Had a delicious takeaway. An extensive menu. The food was ready at the appointed time. We haven’t eaten in but will do on our next visit to Leigh.

Best curry in Leigh ! We always get our takeaways from Bombay (or eat in pre Covid) and their curries are soooo delicious, full of flavour and really consistent. Always speedy delivery! Thanks Bombay 😊

This was a very nice meal. A varied vegan choice was most welcome. Staff not overly friendly but masks do stop interaction. My one gripe is that many people came in without masks at all or didn't bother to put them on to go to the toilet. The staff should be telling people they can't come in or walk around unless they have a mask on. There were too many to be all except by the way.

Me and my family was looking for a good Indian and we was told about Bombay and we tried it was so good and we keep going there and the staff are really nice !!

Never again!!!!I’ve been to many an Indian, this is by far the worst!!!It started badly putting us on a tiny 2 table when others seated after us were put on 4 seat tables?Curry was supposed to be a chicken bhuna??? It came with a thick tomato on the top!! And a bisto looking gravy sauce. I was shocked!!!Mushroom rice had the odd bit of mushroom in it. Onion bhaji? Big Greasy balls that fell apart The nan was okMy wife’s buttered chicken was okMushroom bhaji, was eatable £38 with glass of wine and a pint of lager. No tip But saying that There was a table of 6 near us who never stopped swearing!!!An old bloke who should of been told to stop or be quieter or thrown OutSo Worst Saturday night out for ages. Visited this restaurant this week to celebrate my birthday, food ok , but staff and service terrible , we were the only ones in the restaurant and we were made to feel very uncomfortable and very unwelcome , the staff were very rude and I would not recommend this restaurant and certainly will not be returning .

There was a lot of fat in my chicken in my curry curry But the rest of it was good I’m a regular to this Indian always good but could do better hope you get thus review and Improve

Went to the Bombay to celebrate my Sisters birthday, Brother-in-Law treat. A table of six, the only diners in the restaurant the entire time we were there. Food was fine but the service extremely poor. Casual serving of food and drinks whereby the waiter requested our help to pass the glasses and dishes from one end of the table where he was standing to the other rather than walking around. Mindful he might have a medical condition we obliged. A request to turn down the boiling heat was met with an eye roll and like a previous diners experience, a bizarre line up opposite our table of the staff, arms folded and staring once we had all been served. Slightly odd and a little bit intimidating. They couldn't have missed the fact it was a birthday event but sadly wasn't able to acknowledge that in any way. Disappointed and won't visit again.

This was the best curry I have had in a long time.Treated a couple of friends to a night out, all enjoyed what we ordered.We had seen people queuing outside this restaurant so thought it had to be good!! And it was. Would highly recommend.

Having waited in a queue only to be turned away as the place was full, my wife decide that if you have to queue then it must be good, so she telephone and booked a table.Our first experience, and it was not diappointing, my Wife had Prawn on puri to start, and I had Chiken Tikka, both were very tasty and cook correctly I.E. Prawns were not hard and chewy. For main my Wife had King prawn bahar I had goan chicken curry, and again both very tasty, and we both agreed that this is the best curry we had had in a vey long time, good value. Our only complaint was our waiter not very civil 9Still you can't have everything, that aside this is a must go to but book first to avoid disappointment

This place has really gone downhill. We used to eat here about once a month and always good food and great service, not been in for about a year and things have certainly changed! Popadoms soggy with Luke warm dips, Bombay aloo consisted of soggy potatoes in a slightly spiced gravy with a skin over the top. Both main dishes (although different) were dry, chewy chicken in a very thick sauce, and again had a film over the top and was not hot, microwave must of been playing up! Keema naan was undercooked and soggy! Rude staff who all stand in a line staring at us the whole time. Never again, gonna stick with the Akash in Benfleet in future.

Although the venue is nice the food did not live up to our standards and expectations. We simply started with poppadoms which were not crispy and the mint yogurt warm, suggesting they had been sat out for while even thought it was early in the evening. The sauces for the main meal were nice but the chicken was a little dry and chewy. The staff were quick to serve but did not at any time ask if our meal was OK. Sorry but would not return

I have been ordering from here frequently for years and the food is consistently great and at a reasonable price. Food is always delivered quickly and the staff are polite. I highly recommend if you live in Leigh.

Rare visit to Southend to meet up with friends so decided to book a table in anticipation of a busy curry special night. Tuesday night is a special offer night.

My wife and I have frequented this restaurant for several years. Not because of the food, it’s okay, as is the service generally, but there is very little choice for passable, let alone decent, Indian cuisine in the area.

We have been regular customers at the Bombay for the last 5 years. We have tried others but honestly food elsewhere doesn't compare.

Unfortunately the food wasn't good enough to out weigh the poor service. Waiters had no interest in providing good customer service or even a basic level of service. But the food came out quick, hot and was nice enough.

Went last night for the Tuesday Special. Very different, some interesting items on the menu, Lovely meal in very nice surroundings. Un-rushed, warm and comfortable.

I have been here on a number of occasions and overall I think the food is really tasty, on my last visit we had Reshmi kebab starter which isn't on the menu. It was beautifully seasoned and really moist, delicious. My main was a spinach and lentil curry with sliced fresh green chillies on top, I had it cooked with plain lamb rather than chicken tikka as on the menu and it was really tasty. Partners lamb dopiaza was also excellent. The onion bhajis were also very good. The only criticism would be that other than one of the waiters who is always polite and cheerful the others always seem so miserable!!!

As allways really tasty .... can’t fault staff are friendly enough .... clean didn’t have to wait long for our meals

Got a last minute take away from here at the weekend... was yummy... the king prawn dansak was spicy n sweet just as it should be, the sauce could have been a bit thicker but actually made mixing it with rice easier... onion bargee crunchy but not hard all in all one of my better take away meals!! The food was hot and good value staff always pleasant!!

We have visited Bombay on many occasions but today we wanted a delivery and we will never use them again. After calling ten minutes before opening they slammed the phone down on my partner telling her they are not open.

I booked this restaurant 2 weeks in advance for my mothers 80th birthday, but upon arrival they said there was no record of me booking the time I said on the date I needed till another waiter said that he remembered the phone call so this was the first problem. The waiters there after were rude and angry towards the people in the party.

It's like with fizzy drinks - put loads of sugar in it and people won't notice the taste. Very dissappointing and could do better

We hadn't eaten in here for a while and decided to go on a Tuesday evening - great choice as we discovered they have an offer on Tuesdays of a poppadom, starter, main meal and a side for £10.95, good value that.

Have indian restaurants had there day or am I getting grumpy. When I leave a restaurant I want to be planning in the back of my mind when next I aim to return. For us personally it was very average, meaning instinctively you seek els where for that memorable experience, the one that brings you back time and time over. It was ok and that's the best I can say.

For such touristic small city on the sea, not necessarily that all restaurants serves great food, but at least provide great service.

Whether they are unable to cope with groups I know not however this was the worst Indian I have ever been to. Service was awful,trying not to swear here. Staff so miserable. Plonked dishes on table for us to help ourselves and pass to appropriate person. Dishes forgotten, same with drinks. And cold Bombay potato, wow that's a first.

We were the first customers in the restaurant and they told us to basically eat quickly and leave. They designated us 45 minutes to order, eat, pay and leave. When we say we would find another place they extended this time slot by a further 30 minutes. The service was rushed and at the end the waiter quite literally snatched the money from my husbands hands without a thanks just to get us to vacate the table. The food was average and average priced. I would have returned if the service was better.

Booked a table for 19:00 on Christmas Eve for my wife and I and our daughter, son-in-law and 2 granddaughters. Arrived at the restaurant to find that they had no record of the booking. The staff made no effort whatsoever to accommodate us merely stated...

We booked to go on Christmas Eve as a family after a theatre visit. All 4 staff members stood there checking for our booking to then ask us if we had called the right number?!?! After a 1.5 hour drive the last thing we need...

My local Indian restaurant and a very decent one too. Food is very tasty, decor good and great beer. The only thing i would pick them up on is the service, it doesn't come with the usual warm, happy, friendliness you generally get from most curry houses.

Ate here the other night. Very tasty food - a good range of spices in the dishes. Six of us had different food all quite distinct. Good value as well.

He visitado Bombay varias veces a lo largo de los años y este fue sin duda el mejor en cuanto a comida, visita. Yo tenía una increíble chili y plato de mango mientras mis amigos tenían una variedad de platos vegetarianos y otros platos de carne. Incluso el arroz (keema, champiñón y ajo) estaba húmeda y fresca, nunca he terminado de arroz en India, pero antes de esto era una delicia.

La comida es tan deliciosa y el servicio es muy bueno. Nunca me he encontrado un mejor Bhaji de cebolla. Si quieres una noche fantástica en Leigh luego Bombay spice es el lugar para comer.

I visited Bombay Spice and have had a few recommendations from friends I decided to give it another try. I had previously visited a couple of years before and while it was ok, in my opinion nothing to rave about. I am glad I had booked a table for the Saturday night as the restaurant was busy all evening. My revisit was far more successful and the standard of the cooking is certainly a great improvement on last time. If you are looking for a good curry in a lively restaurant in Leigh the Bombay Spice will certainly fit the bill.

We eat here quite regularly and it never disappoints. Whilst the restaurant itself is quite modern the food itself is quite traditional British curry house fayre. Always good quality and reasonably priced, it gets very busy at weekends. Can't understand why it doesn't rank higher on here.

We had dinner here with friends, it's their preferred "Indian" restaurant and nice to be asked to join them. It was at best ok. My husbands starter Butterfly king prawn looked like it, "yes", just the one, had been run over by a truck, he tells me it tasted like leather, that is pretty hard to do with a prawn! Our meal in fairness was better here than other indian restaurants that we have had the displeasure of eating in. I say displeasure as these days you cannot get the quality of food we once did, hence why the current trend isTurkish. Turkish cuisine is fairly new in fashion, we are seeing them spring up everywhere, they will work hard to win us over, as for them the honeymoon has only just began, but, for most indian restaurants the honeymoon is over, they serve you bulk standard food passing it off as indian. Poor fool them, take your eye of the ball and it wont be long before its game over. The Bombay Spice is nicely decorated, that, is in its favour, but the food is un-measurably standard un memorable. They need to set themselves aside and serve the food we brits once fell in love with or watch the newbies, the Turkish restaurants, take you over. The New broom always sweeps cleaner! Don't take your eye off the ball

Read some reviews on here and I am actually shocked! For starters this was a lovely and romantic place for me and my partner to visit. Secondly the staff are friendly as anything. Hands down the best Indian I've ever been to. Food was lovely so tasty and I wanted to go back straight away. Shabash is closer to where I live but I had such a disappointing time there I will never go back but Bombay spice we will defo be back. Thank you for a wonderful evening food was delicious

All in all, a great experience!! Phoned them up for a last minute booking and not a problem at all. Within 10 mins of arrival we had drinks, poppadoms and mains ordered.They soon got busy, and yes we did have to wait a little longer for the mains to arrive BUT the food was worth the wait.Hot, tasty and meat was perfectly cooked.Staff were attentive and friendly, even though they were extremely busy!!Definitely worth a visit, especially if it's a last minute meal out!!!

We were on date night and decided after a few drinks to have a curry. Restaurant was busy at 8pm but they found a table for two and were quickly eating popadoms and had drinks and menus. We shared king prawn on purée (tasty) then I had dansak also good. Great atmosphere, lively (probably not suitable for romantic eve) but we enjoyed very much.

Needed something to eat while staying overnight locally so popped in here on spec on a rainy Sunday night, to find I was the only customer.Service was, unsurprisingly, swift. Staff were polite and friendly.Chicken shashlik arrived sizzling on a metal platter with lots of onion, peppers and tomato. Saag dal was long cooked, unctuous and spicy. Plain naan was delicious; light, piping hot and crispy.Washed down with a couple of bottles of Kingfisher I went out into the night Ruth change of twenty quid in my pocket.All in all it was exactly what I needed and I'd go back if I was in the area.

I hate leaving negative reviews so I'm going to find the positives in my review of this restaurant first. We all love Indian food, the food was ok, not amazing but not terrible.The décor is very nice by comparison to other Indian restaurants.The location is great with lots of bars around it for drinks pre or post dinner.Now the negative! How miserable are the staff! We arrived early so only the second table in. It was as though we'd interrupted a wedding. We were not welcomed as paying guests but more as a hindrance! Before you assume it might be as a consequence of who we were it was myself, my 72 year old mother and her mother 91... Hardly unruly or loud, in fact the complete opposite.The prices were fine, the place was clean but that's about it.Indian restaurants are ten a penny in Essex and I'd barely need to drive another mile to find two or three alternatives, which is exactly what I shall do in future...

We have been regular visitors to Shabash in Leigh Broadway but decided to have a change and go to Bombay in Broadway West. Mistake!The place is well decorated with plenty of staff and was nearly full when we arrived. We got a table and ordered. Pappadoms came but the chutneys etc were fairly mild and thin. No lime pickle.The quality of the starters was mixed between the four of us. Onion Bhajis were very ordinary, not light and bright that I am used to, but darker and more solid. My wife's salmon was good.Again, main courses were mixed, my lamb dhansak was, frankly, tough. Lamb in curries, in my view, should be slow cooked and tender. My wife's korma was did not get a positive response from her. Someone appeared over my shoulder to ask if everything was all right, to which I replied with a sort of mumble, being caught by surprise!The bill was reasonable, but I doubt that I will return

7 of us went last night for a curry and beers. They were pretty busy though that doesn't excuse the fact that no one warned us of how long we'd be waiting. 45 mins after ordering I asked how long it would be - the manager came over and apologised but said 'we do have to cook it first'. He said it'd be a few minutes more. Food didn't come out til 20 mins after that, which was pretty ridiculous. They were cooking and delivering take away orders at the same time.One of our meals wasn't delivered at all so he was waiting longer while we chased it up. We complained at the end, and they said they'd get us a round of drinks to apologise, which wasn't really suitable as a few of us were driving. They gave us all half pints of Cobra when we'd been drinking pints, which I thought was pretty cheeky.In the end we asked for a round of drinks to be taken off the bill instead, which we thought was fair and was probably little more than 10% of the bill. They actually collected the half Cobras from the table and took them back though, surprisingly.The quality of the food was great, but manage your customer's expectations - don't leave them in the dark.

Went here last night for a curry after hearing how good the food was . It certainly didn't disappoint , very tasty and fresh tasting . Only thing that let it down was the staff, although quite fast and efficient they was not very friendly at all. Will return , just hope I get a smile next time !

Ordered takeaway to collect - always nice to get a discount on collection.Pick up time was 40 minutes but on arriving at the restaurant to collect it was obvious why as the place was heaving.Food was hot and tasty. Portion sizes were OK.Would order again.

I went to Bombay on a Saturday evening with 6 of my friends. We had a table booked for 7:30pm for a birthday meal. I went early to the restaurant to put some banners and balloons on the table and the staff were fine with this. We had poppadoms on our table while we were waiting to order the rest of our meal and these were very nice. Water was also on our table which I appreciate. I ordered a chicken korma, coconut rice, shared a peshwari naan with my friend as well as onion bhaji and a meat samosa. All of the food was delicious, the chicken was cooked perfectly. Mine and my friends food all was served at the same time. The bill was just under £100 for 7 of us however two of us had vodka's and lemonades. I would say the meal was very fairly priced and worth every penny. I would return :)

Had a takeaway a few times now from Bombay, arrived hot every time. Food is always lovely and fresh, wouldn't order from anywhere else.

This is so hit and miss with take away food. 40% of the time its OK, but 60% of the time they must cook it in a normal oven. This dish requires 400 Celcius to crisp the outer coating. So on the third dissappointment they lost my custom for good.

I go to Bombay regularly as it is my local Indian, the staff are very helpful, provide excellent service and are always friendly whether you eat in or take away!There is a lot of choice on the menu which is good for me as I'm not one for spicy food. It is good if you're eating out with family or friends or family, young or old.Definitely worth the try if you live in the area or visiting!

I use the Bombay regularly, either for an evening meal or a takeaway, and have always been satisfied with what I have been served.The menu is pretty extensive and i have tried many different main courses, all being lovely. Personal favourites being the Sali chicken tikka and the Murgh mirch masala.Personally, i have always been warmly greeted, well served and fully satisfied with both the meal and the service.The only iffy experience was nothing to do with the restaurant but a large group of 20 or so people all wanting to out speak each other, getting louder and louder. We were re-seated to be a little further away from them.

Had a dinner here with a group of friends, it wasn't bad but it wasn't good either.We had a table at the back near the toilets, so whenever the door opened we all got a whiff of bleach. There are just too many people squeezed into the restaurant, it got so loud and crowded I couldn't hear what the person sitting opposite to me was saying.The food was quite nice, but the atmosphere ruined it for me and made it too uncomfortable to enjoy.

I've been here several times and always found the food excellent, it's a small Indian but is full of great decor. The staff are always friendly and I can't wait to go back. Ignore the bad reviews this is well worth a visit.

Should be a reliable local curry house but something fundamental prevents this from being so. Hard to pinpoint excatly but there is no personal feel, no welcome.The renovations have added pizzaz rather than style and the service lacks service skills. Cramped and the prwan vindaloo was more akin to a prawn mulligatawny soup, odd considering this is a seafood town.Nothing to warrant a revisit

This used to be my favourite Indian but I felt like a battery hen all squashed together, restaurant needs to take out some tables. You are so close to other strangers eating.

Well I don't know what's happened since the last time I reviewed this restaurant, and I still have no complaints about the food - great menu, great fish dishes , BUT..... what has happened to the SERVICE? Just like Basil Fawlty but without the humour! No eye contact, extremely brusque and didn't really seem to want us there at all! Perhaps because it was a Sunday night, the staff were fed up? Or maybe they'd all just had a row? Anyway, the extremely unfriendly approach made our party of six feel very unwelcome - we were not noisy either, so it couldn't be that. The restaurant wasn't busy so they were not rushed off their feet either. Perhaps it's not busy BECAUSE the service has deteriorated so much since I was last here. My friend asked them if they could box up her leftovers - this is quite commonplace these days, and the many restaurants I've been in have always been happy to do this. But this time, the waiter came back with a tin foil carton and bag (actually almost threw it at her!) and told her to do it herself! Now you see what I mean about Basil Fawlty! Anyway, sadly won't be going here again - but I'm absolutely certain that they won't care whatsoever!!!!

We have visited this restaurant many times and love the atmosphere and the renovations, it has a cosy but lively feel at the weekends. The food & menu is also lovely and we have never had a bad meal. Good value especially considering its location.The service lacks charisma but is prompt. Although one waiter is extremely good and couldn't be more accommodating when we asked to be moved during our last visit. Unfortunately the table in the far back corner had a terrible smell of damp which other dinners also complained of but they still served our starters and then barked "you won't to move now" once we had started eating! Whilst the owner is usually there on the weekend he has little interaction with the customers.

Love this place. Lamb is tender, side dishes are so tasty and they never fail to make my chicken korma just the way I like it.

It's been some time since I reviewed this restaurant as on the last visit I wasn't that impressed, however we very much enjoyed it last night. The service was good and although busy the food, unlike last time, arrived promptly and was very tasty. Will definitely put this back on my list of places to go!

A late night curry with a group of friends, the staff were very welcoming to our large group, organised a table for us. The food was very good, served quickly and very tasty.The service was very efficient, not always easy to get 12 orders in and ready, but they managed it.Good value - would certainly go again

I have been here Before and it wasn't like our visit Last night... we was packed in like Sardines, very hot, very busy, not even room between tables to get out of your seat, trying to eat your food while hitting Elbows with the person on the next table!! ... Rushed service when taking your order, waited 5o mins for our food, then really chewy lamb... will not be going back again!!

Bombay spice is my new local since recently moving into the area at the beginning of the year. The GF and I have eaten in many times and have never had a bad experience. The Good:--Great service, although staff could be friendlier.--Food is always fast out,once ordered if its not busy it will be out in 10-15 minutes max--Great value for money - not over priced at all and same portion sizes you would expect from anywhere else.The not so good:Takeaways seem to always vary. some times its good, others its really not. We had a great one on a Monday night but poor ones on Saturday lunch times and evenings.Small - as others have said, it is small in there so you do feel a bit cramped when you dine with more than just a couple of people. Especially when trying to get up for the toilet and having to squeeze out between your table and someone elses who is eating. (Not nice for them either)So to summarize, Great to eat in, nice, fresh and good value for money. Not so great for a takeaway.

One of the better curry houses in Leigh, staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. Spice is in the name and its in the game!

Newly refurbished, Bombay a Spice had lovely decor and a nice relaxed atmosphere, although a little cramped (need one less table on 'upper floor')! The menu is excellent and very reasonably priced too, especially the fish dishes, of which there is much choice - sea bass, salmon, king prawns in various sauces. Priced between £8 - 12. I had the salmon masala which was delicious and a good sized portion too. It's not often you find such choice of fish in an Indian restaurant so I will be returning here to try more of them! I would highly recommend if you don't mind bring a little crowded!

My partner was going to this restaurant for a meal with friends. He has mobility problems therefore turned up at the restaurant on his mobility scooter. On arrival at the door the waiter told us that the scooter was not aloud in the restaurant as no room. He told my partner that he needed to get off it and walk to the table and to leave the scooter outside the restaurant. My partner finds it very hard to walk so was very put out that he couldn't get to the table easily and had to rely on others to get to the table. He was livid that the scooter should have to be left outside too as if it had gone missing he had no means of transport. after a friend had words with the waiter the scooter was found a space right next to our table. The food was ok but have had a lot better else where locally and this event spoilt what should of been a good hassle free experience. needless to say we wont be returning.

Probably one of the best Indian restaurants around. We go there regularly for a take away and it's also a good atmosphere to eat in with the refurbishment they recently carried out. We have tried almost all the Indian restaurants around and do end up here every time.

My family had a meal here last night. The waiters who served us were very sullen and unfriendly. The food was fairly good but the whole evening was spoiled by the poor service and we all commented on the fact that we were made to feel unwelcome. I don't like to leave negative reviews as feel this impacts on people's business but Bombay Spice do not deserve to have customers if they are going to be treated with disdain.

Me and my boyfriend popped in to order a takeaway this evening, got told to come back in 30 minutes to collect it. We came back 25 minutes later to be told to take a seat it wouldn't be too long. Two other people were also waiting for takeaways. Another 25 minutes had passed and one man was given his takeaway. Another 10 minutes after that the next man was given his and we were still left waiting. When we asked how much longer, they came out another 10 minutes later with an order which was not ours. After they spoke to each other in Indian for a while they had come to the conclusion the man before us had taken our takeaway and we'd been left with his. They did not apologise but blamed it on the other man as they read the order out and he had agreed. They then went on to serve other people, it wasn't until we asked AGAIN what they was going to do with our order that they then said we had to wait another 15-20 minutes for our food. Are you kidding me? After being told it would be a 30 minute wait, to waiting in total now for 1 hour and 15 minutes, then have no apology for their mistake and poor service, to be told we'd have to wait another 15-20 minutes. No refund was offered, no money off, in fact they laughed and blamed somebody else for their mistake. Thankfully the man who had mistakenly took our order came back in to complain and they again blamed him. So after 1 hour and 20 minutes wait we finally had our food, still with no apology and their disgusting service. And to top it off once we got home to eat the food it was cold and disgusting. Never will I order or eat in here again.

Bombay Spice is located really near my home so had hopes for the food to be amazing and to be my curry house of choice. But sadly it didn't live up to expectations . Firstly our waiter clearly lacked a customer service approach and didn't seem to enjoy his job. I could have overlooked this lack of charm had the food been good, but it was sadly unexceptional. The food was basically bland and very oily. The fact that the restaurant is always busy indicates that it's just me that feels that the food was uninspiring! Not in a rush to return.

First visit here went with friends on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was busy but the service was ok and the food fairly average my chicken pathia was a lot spicier than have had in other Indian restaurants. Felt the price not too bad for a leigh restaurant. Had a nice evening but that was probably due to the company rather than the food.

My partner and I had a few drinks locally and decided to pop in to have an Indian before the walk home. We decided on this restaurant as in the past it has been too busy and service was terrible. This time the restaurant didn't have a soul in there so we assumed that service would be spot on.The food was lovely as normal, but due to the fact that they had no other clients to serve we were given 100% of their attention.We had one waiter pacing near our table throughout most of the meal and our meal was rushed as if they wanted to close. As soon as we asked for the bill the staff starting to close the restaurant for the evening. No sooner than we were whisked out of the door and the door was locked behind us.I don't think the people that run this restaurant really care about their clients, it's a shame but nothing will change here.

Me and my partner used to be regulars here just over a year ago atleast once a week but found that after the refurb the service and the food went down hill. We started going to indiana instead which we found to be lovely but sometimes inconsistent. We recently moved back in the area so thought we would see if it had got its charm and good food back, boy were we wrong! We had one last week where the lamb in the madras was basically all fat and so tough and chewy, I barely touched what is normally my favourite dish! The chips were awful and incredibly over done. The dupiaza was bland and lacked flavour, the korma was also very bland nowhere near as sweet and tasty as other local indians. Tonight we decided to try it one more time and give them the benefit of the doubt. What a waste of time and money, ordered the same as previously, the same things we have always had, same problems as last time with the chips resembling cardboard not a good sign straight away if a restaurant can't even cook chips to an edible standard. To top it all off from who we understand to be the owner/manager was so unforgiveably rude to my partner when he went to collect it, he had accidentally picked the wrong debit card up and it had declined which resulted in him being embarrassed in front of the whole restaurant as he shouted to his staff to cancel our order before my boyfriend had a chance to explain what had happened! When he returned he told him how rude he thought he had been and told him of the poor quality dinner we had last week he was not even offered an apology let alone a good will gesture! When he did not even get an apology he was handed his food and told the manager that if this takeaway was not up to scratch we will be writing an honest review to which he told my boyfriend that he did not want to do that as we would damage our 'local' I am not one to write nasty reviews for no reason but this has really got under our skin and do not want anyone else to pay for overpriced rubbish food with worse service. We will NEVER be returning and most of our family who also used to be regulars here have left and will not go back even preferring wetherspoons curry night. So please save yourself the hastle of a ruined night and do not spend your money here. Absolutely disgusted!

Not a great dinning experience by any stretch of the imagination.. Three different dishes all tasted the same, asked to move table twice as a bigger party came in, service came with sweat and a grunt

One of the best Indians in the area. Love coming here with friends and family. Great selection of food, always accommodating and friendly staff. Overall experience here is enjoyable every time, amazing atmosphere.

Like the variety and specials - always prepared well and served with relish.Decor is contemporary and clean. Keep asking to book a table by the window - never have succeeded so far but will keep on trying.

Bombay Spice is well placed in the one way system not far from Library Gardens and parking is not too bad around that area during the evening.Decor is fresh and contemporary with traditional soft furnishings which makes for a nice atmosphere. If I have one criticism it would be that too many tables have been crammed in and are too close together making it all feel cramped.Now onto the food. We ordered one bottle of house white, two mains followed off with two Irish coffees. Price £53 Service not included. The food was tasty, well presented and hot when it was served to our table. The service was friendly, prompt and very attentive. The Bombay Spice has a 5 Star Hygiene Rating. I would recommend a visit.

I am some what an Indian food addict, I have eaten in basically every Indian in Leigh/Southend/Rochford/Eastwood over the years. I started my career at The Taj Mahal many years ago, then moved on to Leigh Tandoori, where I stayed for many many years and become very friendly with the owners. I was tempted away by Shima, which is great, but... I tried Bombay Spice for a friends birthday and I was MASSIVELY impressed, the food was awesome and also has a reasonably unique menu. There are of course the standard dishes but also some other really interesting and incredibly tasty dishes too! I highly recommend the Mango Chilli Chicken and they also offer Salmon as an alternative to the normal Chicken/Lamb/Prawn.I will agree with some of the other reviews, yes the tables are a bit cramped in and yes the service is a tad slow sometimes when they are busy but come on... every Indian restaurant is the same! It's no big deal at all.I was massively impressed with this place and will now stick with it!!! Best Indian Restaurant in the area without question.

I went here with my wife in Saturday night on the recommendation of a few locals in Leigh. I must admit I was pretty apprehensive given some of the reviews I had read on here but decided to go with local knowledge and give it a try. I do a lot of Indian cooking at home and until Saturday I had started to think I could turn out a pretty decent curry myself. Well I can't cook a curry anywhere near as well what we ate at Bombay Spice. The restaurant itself has recently been done out and it looks very glitzy, certainly not what I am used to when I go to a curry house but exactly what you would expect in Essex e.g. all mirrors and brushed steel, but you know what it works. The service was excellent and with there being a few dishes on the menu I have not come across before I wanted some guidance about what's what and it was forthcoming and very helpful. The food came in a timely fashion without being rushed or taking too long between each course. The food itself was faultless, excellent in everyway. The combination of spices was great and the heat was amazing. Sometimes when you go to a curry house it seems like all the curries taste pretty much the same as they have been made from a base massala with ingredients added. Not here the two curries we had were very different in taste and style and both were lovely. The sides were also excellent with the best tarka dahl I have ever eaten. The only slight criticism if I have one is I prefer my nann a little more cooked. Needless to say I will definately be going back again and I'll be working on my cooking skills to see if I can get anywhere near this.

Always went to the old Bombay spice, service was never that good, however since it's refurb has deteriorated even more. Cramped tables and chairs, slow food 1 hour wait, miserable overworked staff, if asked for anything from the waiter it felt like we was asking too much, especially if asking for extra dips!, it took 20 mins to get some extra mint sauce. Food is always nice but unfortunately bad service and atmosphere will ensure we won't be going back. Last thing that made up Our minds was once paid cash they never gave back our change, we didn't make a big deal of this and didn't request it, but since then my sister visited and said how she also would not be going back again and commented that they also had not given back her change, this is why I felt I needed to write this review, very appalled. Just because it's down the broadway, doesn't mean that they should take it for granted that with bad service people will still go back!!!

We have always had our takeaways from here, as the food is of a high standard, Since the restaurant has been done up, we decided to test it out and weren't disappointed. We had a table of 4, the service was good and the food came quickly. My only slight complaint is that you are packed in like sardines and it is a very tight squeeze to get between the tables, other than that it was a very enjoyable visit.
