Boatmans Food and Grill in Walsall

We (family of four) visited Boatman Bar and Grill for the first time this evening and can't wait to go back because the food was so good. Ram the Owner was really welcoming and the waiting staff were friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Indian cuisine.

I've been living fairly local to the Boatmans for about 11 years and never visited...and now I've been twice in one month...and have to say, this place knocks spots off any Indian food restaurant place for miles around..one of the best curry I've tasted and that's saying something! Yes this place needs a makeover, but this is purely cosmetic...no point going to a fancy looking restaurant and the food tastes like rubber! So to the community near the Boatmans, please go in have a pint and enjoy the food, you won't regret it...oh and great friendly service to :) KW

Authentic, fresh and reasonably priced-my new favourite local. Pleasantly surprised, what a gem! Easily the most authentic, yet reasonably priced restaurant in the area. I have eaten here several times and it’s always fresh. The staff are friendly and happy to recommend based on what you fancy. There are two big rooms, and clean modern toilets. I personally enjoyed amritsari chole and fish pakoras. The biryanis, lamb and chicken curries are also fantastic, and the rice dish comes with additional sauce. I particularly enjoyed their vegetarian Bhindi Dopiaza and Daal Makhani. The Chicken and Lamb dishes are fantastic also. I also enjoyed the roti and tandoori, both cooked fresh to order.

Loved this place! The food was bursting with flavour—authentic Indian spices done right. The pub vibe adds a fun twist, making it feel both cosy and lively. Great food, great atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

Great food, dine in or takeaway all the time

Ordered takeout via uber eats from here. Food was cooked quick, and delivered very quick too. Madras sauce on point. Paneer masala abit underwhelming, thought it would be red like most places, but the paneer was in small chunks, tasted good though Breads were half decent, just not as packed inside with stuffing (like the keema and cheese) as normal indian takeouts. Mix grill was alright. The flavours were there but was missing the mint sauce, chilli sauce and salad. This was quite crucial because the chicken tikka tasted good but was very, very dry. The sauce would have helped. I also thought that it would have came with grilled onions like a sizzling mix grill does, but none (id put them seperate if you do it in future) Lamb was very good and the prawns Ordered x2 lots of popadoms and 3 sauces for £2.80 each £5.60 total. Should have came with 6 sauces but instead came with 3. We had 1 small yogurt mint for 4 popadoms, 1 large mixed grill and 2 mains (1 main being a sauce) very dissapointed. All in id give it a go again. It is very much desi pub and not indian restraunt style.

Was recommended but will not be ordering again put order in at 8.40pm tracked order said it was on way didnt arrive so had to call couldn't hear a thing over fone only to be told on its way in 5 to 10 mins still no order, called again said it was on way at this point it was getting on for 9.40 and they close at 10 on my way to get my monies back and they turned up , Luke warm onion bhagys ,curry was watery didnt eat half of it . Well disappointing will not use again , easy to go else where ☹️☹️

I discovered this place about a couple of months ago and have been coming regularly since. The food is absolutely outstanding. Really lovely tender meat, decent size portions and amazing tastes. Hats off to the chefs in the kitchen. The staff are polite and helpful too. Fantastic place to eat. Will be coming here many many more times in the future!

Good is very good, plentiful, arrives fast and hot The rice is 11/10 Very quiet when we went too which is a big brucey bonus This is the first curry in all my 31 years that I’ve said “WOW” to

Went in yesterday (Saturday afternoon) Great choice of beers, great staff (shoutout to the short Nepalese lady with glasses, extremely polite and helpful, sorry I didn’t get your name) Paneer chilli was bostin, chilli wings, delicious. The grill was great, but the Himalayan masu curry was outstanding, unreal flavours, The naan and rotis were also cooked to perfection, going to be a weekly visit for us now living so close.

Me and my husband just popped in here whilst in a nearby hotel for 2 days. The food was outstanding, you could taste the poppadoms were cooked in clean oil, and nan bread was fresh the dough was delicious. Portions really good. Don't be put off by the interior (it needs a little updating) this is a little gem! The staff are friendly and kind. Will recommend. Thank you we have left happy and full. All the best.

I’ve had a delivery from this place for the first time and it’s absolutely blew me away. The food is top tier, everything was perfect. Just the right amount of spice and the meat was cooked to perfection. I had lamb balti and chicken tikka masala with egg fried rice and keema naan. I honestly cannot give this restaurant enough praise. It’s now my new favorite place. The delivery was on time too.

We were a group of 7 and we all had different meals and all of us were more than happy with our meals. Came out freshly cooked and piping hot and this place is now my favourite restaurant many thanks for making us so welcome. A must visit

What a relief. Finally an Indian restaurant delivering what they say. Authentic Indian food. I'm tired of being served the usual slop that Indians think we English like instead of food that they would eat. The phrase would you serve this to your mom comes to mind. There are a number of places like this popping up around the Midlands, here's hoping they become the norm. Thank you Boatman bar and grill. Your chicken saag was just as it should be and the rotis probably the best I've had in a restaurant.

Delivery and it was awful . Big mix grill . Chicken very dry I could hardly swallow it . Fish pakora was like a dry chicken nugget instead of being light and battery . Chips smelt like old chip fat as I know as I own a cafe . Keama nann so where was the keama . Very very poor for a small buisness. but on a good side the lettuce was nice. Please take note of these comments and learn from them as i dont want you to go under On a whole we will never be ordering from here again

Went this evening as recommend by a friend, was not disappointed food and service was brilliant, We had the curry side of the menu one of the best chicken and spinach bati i have had in a long time. Going back to try the mix grill as it looks delicious. Was clean, warm and staff really could not of been more helpful and friendly.

If I am honest I didn't have the highest expectations for this place and its obviously not Michelin star but to be fair the food was better than expected and the service was spot on. Recommended

Wife and I were staying at a nearby hotel and decided to look for a local pub for food. The Boatman was the first we found and so glad we did. The food was amazing and the staff were possibly the friendliest we've experienced.

Excellent quality food, fantastic service, good value for money, good portion sizes. What else is there to want? The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, and it was a decent portion. The naans were excellent - I recommend the keema naan, in particular. The chicken in my butter chicken was so tender. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant and I wouldn't hesitate to return if I was ever in the area.

Place was honestly amazing. Service was fantastic from the moment we sat down. Our orders arrived very quickly and the food was delicious. The staff came over a couple times during our hour visit to make sure everything was OK, and to clear up table space (we were 2 to a table of 4, so they didn't need to go that far). Staff made great recommendations for choices of rice and Naans to go with our curries. My first visit to the area, and if I come back I will 100% stop back here for food.

Food last week was horrible, chicken tikka masala didnt taste sweet at all. Bland like a microwave meal.

Place was full with England football supporters,two bars,one barmaid on each bar,took 20 minutes to get a drink,didn't wait to eat as you had to order at the bar,may go back when quieter as the food has been recommended by friends

I must have come on the wrong night when there was football playing way too busy to be served, 1st time visitor to the place after a long drive to meet a party of friends didn't even bother staying for the food as couldn't get Served After being Stuart the bar for 10 minutes. From what I'm told the food is great there smelt lovely just wish I could have tasted it.

A proper Indian restaurant and takeaway. I really love the garlic naan and chicken tikka masala along with some chicken tikka rice. If you want to have a taste of the different flavours of India, you must visit the place. The staff are friendly and the owner is nice and polite. You can even get your dishes customised to your taste just by asking the staff. A must go to place.

We get food delivered from here all the time and also eat in. Kumar is a brilliant host. The chefs are really good. This is a desi pub which means you get the authentic Nepali and Punjabi dishes as well as a nice ice cold pint. The madri is great. Highly recommend the mixed grill, chilli mushrooms and veg manchurian.

I visited this establishment as I saw it may offer a new taste it was amazing the Rangoon mutton Curry was out of this world and fab fluffy lemon rice the naans not all thick n stodgy but nice n thin and just right washed down with a lovely cobra what more could u want maybe an Indian kulfi ace well done to all of the staff n chefs thankyou.
