Friendly attentive staff, great beer and lager choices and very reasonably priced.

The only disappointment is that they don't have a kitchen anymore. They stopped doing food. Apart from that, it's a nice place to go to have a pint.

Great place, they are the very best It is a must go. Surely kindest people ever encountered.

Barman is always friendly and quick to serve.

Sadly they have taken London Pride off to be replaced by Ghost ship not my taste! The guy behind the bar told me about the lack of sales etc. Thankfully he assured me Ghostship is short lived to be replaced with Dombar or even Spitfire Whoop whoop

Went to this pub after reading reviews online. Wanted to get a quick bite but apparently they "never served food." Must've gone to a different Boars Head in Less Than Mediocre Dunmow then.

My wife and I were looking for a nice traditional “local” pub in Great Dunmow. There are one or two in Great Dunmow but we liked the look of the Boars Head. I’m not sure that they have a website but I did check on a couple of review sites about what they offered in terms of food and I assumed from what I saw that this would be OK. Unfortunately, even though we weren’t there outside normal lunchtime hours there was no food available when we went. As we eat out a lot, we are aware that some Restaurants don’t open on a Monday at all so maybe this was part of the reason why. We would’ve stayed to have a drink as there is what looks like an attractive outside area. But we’d driven a very long way and were famished and found a local CAFE over the Road! We got a very good vibe from the Boars Head and it looks like the kind of local pub that we would really enjoy. Maybe next time!

Geraldine and Patrick have been wonderful to my partner and I. We approached them looking for a quaint, traditional pub for our wedding reception and I cannot be more grateful for how we were treated and our experience with them. The decorations were wonderful, the buffet had been displayed beautifully, and the staff were amazing. Absolutely recommend their services for hire/events, and even just for a quick pint when passing by! So lucky to have a local pub, with wonderful and kind regulars in our town. Thank you all again and looking forward to seeing you again soon!

Went to the Boars Head last night with some friends, service was great, friendly staff, great atmosphere too

Tom and Geraldine went above and beyond for the wake of my husband. The organisation, food and service was exceptional. They made it a very personal occasion for all his friends and family and nothing was too much trouble for them. I would highly recommend this venue and its amazing staff. Thank you all very much. Went there for first time today with a friend. Read the reviews of the food, which sounded great, but was disappointed with the menu, very basic, not much choice. Staff were friendly though, lovely decor, but we are elsewhere.

The welcome like the service was warm and friendly. The atmosphere was convivial and with a free daily paper to read the short time we had to wait passed by in a flash. The chicken and sweet corn soup I have had many times before at various Chinese restaurants, but not like this. The offering was just superb. Streets ahead of the opposition. It was thick, very flavoursome and filling. I did, however, manage to force down the toasted granary tuna melt that came with a fresh and interesting salad. The toasty was well filled and very hot. The soup and toasty came as a combined special deal at £7.50 and was excellent value for money. My partner enjoyed her liver and bacon and cleared the plate. The Boars Head food is known as pub grub, but in reality, it is miles better.

Polite staff. But the food could be better. Quite a wait for the food, and did not receive it at the same time.

I never walk in pubs on my own.. But was there for a reunion and was early. Made to feel very welcome even by the locals🤗🤗🤗. Didn't know they had a car park at the rear, will use it next time 😃

Been coming here for 30 years If you get here b4 6 the real ale is warm been in the pipes for too long@ £4.00 a pint and they don’t pull it through

Possibly the best pub in the village, but the compotion is upto much. The beer was fine, the locals were.... alive. I won't be rushing back to the village

We love going here for the odd beer most weeks. Friendly staff and a wide choice of drinks. This is a locals pub but everybody is very welcome and it has a good, proper pub atmosphere.

We stopped for dinner and a cold beer. Unfortunately meals are not served in the evening so we stayed for some drinks before heading to another restaurant. Nice and cosy outside with good beers to choose from. Service was very good.

Never used to come in under old management but Helen has made the boars head so much more welcoming, all the staff are lovely, really friendly place!

We have always liked the Boars and the new managers have made it very pleasant. Love to sit out the front with a cold one watching the town go by.

We only stopped for a coffee but we were made very welcome. All the staff as before were friendly and polite. The coffee was piping hot and tasted excellent. We were hoping to have a pudding or perhaps a cake with our coffee but we were informed that these items are not on the menu until summer time. Chatting to the chef she said she has some great ideas for tweaking the menu, I look forward to going there for lunch to discover if the high standard that they have set can be maintained. I do hope so.

Had a lovely lunch of proper homemade soup and a filled sandwich. Very good, beer excellent. Very good value for money. Staff very friendly too. It also has it's own car park which we found after we had paid for the car park near the rear of the pub!

It's a pub I first drank in almost 40 years ago & the fact I choose to drink there whenever I happen to be in Dunmow tells you all you need to know. Good atmosphere, good beer.

Great town pub, good beers and honest pub food.

The staff at The Boars Head, like the welcome, and fare was first class. Helen was our waitress and she coped with us changing our order with style and patience. We ordered spicy parsnip soup that was obviously homemade and was absolutely delicious. We had a brief chat with Theresa, the chef, where we complimented her on her efforts. She said they make everything themselves, from the coleslaw to cooking the hams. My baguette was the usual tuna melt with a side of piping hot chips was all served up by Tallulah. Our only complaint was that the cheese and pickle baguette wasn't warmed through enough and she dealt with this in a most efficient and friendly manner. The value was second to none and I look forward to returning there again.

This pub goes back some three or four hundred years and still retains a lot of the old décor. Quite small, with a small out door seating area, on the High street, so a good central location. Will be going back

Tuesday night 10th of October and we were staying the night in the Travelodge in Great Dunmow. We walked into the town, which took a good 15 minutes, to have dinner and a few drinks.

Old fashioned Essex High Street Boozer. Not the best day to describe, Xmas Fair Day so rammed and busy. Pretty sharp service though and the rugby on. I was happy.

Real pub, fun, good beer and sport on tv as well as music. No trouble as well run and friendly... Not a kids pub and no food served but just a down to earth pub.. Oh yes out door toilets lol

I went in the pub to have a hot chocolate. Got a very cold response from the barmaid which made us feel uncomfortable. I wouldn`t recommend this pub.
