Bluebird Cafe in Edinburgh, City of

A great spot for Singaporean and HK inspired treats! We arrived ten minutes before the place opened on a Sunday, and, I’m glad we did, as the place filled up very quickly. The interior is small, but has a really nice vibe! As someone constantly missing the Hong Kong teatime culture, I was very excited to see some of my favourite cafe classics on the menu, including HK toast, kaya toast, and teas and coffees with condensed milk. We ordered the roti canai, kaya toast and HK toast to share, and a cup of teh tarik, a Singapore signature hand pulled tea, each. Everything was delicious and satisfied my craving for nostalgia (and good food!). I was a bit confused that the crusts were cut off the HK toast, as this is unusual at least in Hong Kong, but my sister pointed out that bread in the UK is much tougher, so this was probably a very good shout! Didn’t have much interaction with the staff, but we didn’t really need to as they were very efficient and we had no complaints about the food. I’d love to come back during a future visit to Edinburgh to try their coffee and larger main dishes.

Adorable unique delicious friendly staff! Twist on traditntal Scottish breakfast. Spicy curry sauces sweet toasts just great. It’s very small so plan ahead!

Probably one of the best cooked breakfasts I've ever had. Absolutely delicious food and the traditional Singaporean coffee is to die for. We had to queue for a table but we didn't mind because the food was worth the wait.

A frustrating place to visit. The food is delicious, but the rest leaves a lot to be desired. I've had takeaways from here a couple of times, and absolutely loved the food. Sadly, today, after ordering a takeaway (it was full, and no tables likely for a while), I was told to wait outside for my food to be given to me - in freezing temperatures! This had not happened to me previously. I know that when it's busy, it can take a while for the food to appear, so I asked for my money back (card only), and left, very disappointed. Unfortunately, this has really put me off returning.

This is a very small place in Canonmills that serves very authentic Far Eastern meals and coffees . We went for breakfast and I couldn’t fault the full breakfast full of spicey flavours especially the Potato and eggs . My daughter especially loved the coffee available in different variations . Can’t be easy with such limited space but I’d go back again in a flash . Service was excellent no problems at all

Tried here a few weeks ago. It’s a Nice lunch spot with tasty food. A Nice menu with a variety of options to choose from and different options.

Had read amazing reviews about this place however was disappointed by the food. Just average, pancakes were a bit dry. Forgot to give us maple syrup which was annoying and had to go back.

Stopped by for two burritos and was very pleased. Great taste and great coffee. Such a nice little cafe.

After passing Bluebird for years, we finally tried it this weekend... twice! We went for coffees on the Saturday. I’m not a coffee drinker but my partner said they were really good and great value for money. The staff were so pleasant and the coffee so good we had to go back for breakfast!On Sunday we tried the breakfast burrito, bluebird burrito and a couple morning rolls. Everything was brilliant! Can’t wait to try more of the Bluebird’s menu!

Nos sugirió este lugar la señora propietaria del campamento en el que nos estábamos quedando y ¡Dios mío, delicioso! Las vistas son tan hermosas y la comida es deliciosa. Nos sentamos afuera, pero incluso entrando para ordenar nos sentimos realmente seguros (Covid) ya que había medidas de precaución en todas partes. Personal encantador también.

Nuestra hija, que es trabajadora de atención médica de primera línea en Edimburgo, actualmente no trabaja debido a una enfermedad. Estamos en Irlanda y no podemos cuidar de ella. Amigos de ella en Australia se pusieron en contacto con THE BLUEBIRD CAFE en Edimburgo y pidieron los más maravillosos brownies y bollos y también enviaron una nota cariñosa que fue entregada personalmente en el apartamento de nuestra hija por una maravillosa dama de THE BLUEBIRD CAFE. Nuestra hija quedó atónita con esta maravillosa sorpresa y gesto y fue una mañana emotiva para ella. Este pensamiento y servicio cariñoso le dio un gran impulso en su momento de necesidad. Estamos muy agradecidos de saber que una empresa todavía recorrerá un camino tan largo en el clima actual para traer esperanza y ayudar a alguien que necesitaba un poco de atención y apoyo durante su tiempo de necesidad. Bien hecho y muchas gracias a BLUEBIRD CAFE.

I loved loved loved this little cafe. I ordered a latte and pancakes with bacon and the scone, if you do anything here, you HAVE to try their scones. The blueberry and lemon curd scone is heavenly.

Cash only place with seating for perhaps 8. Fresh food, large portions, great coffee and cheerful staff. Highly recommend the Full Scots Breakfast.

Just popped in for take away before we hit the road. I ordered my husband the vegan jackfruit cowboy caviar burrito. He said it was hands down the best burrito he has ever had. It was a good size too, which is wonderful because it is hard to keep this big vegan guy fed! Thanks!!

Prima, niet super bijzonder. We hebben pancakes en scones gehad en koffie. Online gelezen hoe fantastisch het zou zijn, het was goed maar had er misschien wat meer van verwacht.

Als je hier een plaatsje kunt krijgen, moet je zeker toeslaan. Goede koffie en lekkere happen. Er zijn maar een paar tafeltjes, ze doen ook take-away. Niet duur.

We dropped in here for drinks while nearby. The waitress was short with us and coughed allover our drinks. She then pressed the lid of the cups on with her hand she had just coughed into. Not great practice. If you are unwell and work in the food industry you really should be responsible and stay home. The chai was ok, I have had better.

I went to Bluebird with my best friend and we were really impressed by Rowan who catered for our every need and was so sweet and friendly. Great food but even better service. 10/10 would recommend.

We found this place on Tripadvisor and were excited to try it after all the great reviews and realizing it was only a 15 minute walk on the nature path behind our Airbnb. The food was good and the staff was very friendly but it is a very tiny little cafe so be prepared for that! There are only 4 tables and we had to wait outside in the cold for one to open up. The staff were apologetic but I woudn't go with a large group (more than 4) or if you are in a hurry. Also, they had so many take away and phone orders they were struggling to keep up on their little griddles for cooking - they doN't have a full kitchen. So, if you have the time, and patience, and want some good food with friendly staff and excellent music - it is definitely worth it. Just dress warm!

We went there for breakfast after seeing great reviews and I wanted to treat us to a Full Scottish. The food certainly was well presented but it wasn't wow, the service wasn't overly friendly and in such a small space it felt a bit uncomfortable. I do however give them top marks for their coffee and pancakes, just wish we had had the same experience others have obviously had there.....

What a fab cafe, individual and quirky (in a brilliant way) with staff who are welcoming and like old friends.

The Bluebird Cafe served one of the most memorable meals of our trip. The restaurant space itself is on the smaller side, but is well managed. From the minute we walked in, the staff was kind and helpful. I had some questions on the menu, and one woman, who I believe is the owner, took her time to answer them. It felt special, and I appreciate that she wanted to make sure I was happy with what I ordered!

Llamé a desayunar el sábado por la mañana al llegar a Edinburgh Waverley. Diría que se trata de una caminata de 20 minutos siguiendo los mapas de Google. Cuando llegué me sorprendió lo pequeño que era el lugar, creo que había un máximo de 4 mesas con gente sentada en todas ellas. Había un asiento libre en una mesa y el caballero de la mesa, que parecía ser un habitual, me invitó a unirme a él. Pedí el clásico burrito de desayuno (6.50) y una tetera (2.50). La comida era excelente y muy bien presentada y el té incluso se sirve con un colador. La pareja que dirige el lugar es muy amable y se dio tiempo para hablar con todos los apostadores a pesar de que se les escapó. Cuando me fui, el chico de mi mesa se había ido y una pareja de alemanes se había unido a mí en la mesa. Es ese tipo de lugar: ecléctico y amable, y lo más importante, sirve un excelente desayuno. Me dirigía hacia Arthur's Seat; recomiéndelo como parada en boxes si tiene en mente un ascenso temprano en la mañana. Definitivamente regresaré aquí la próxima vez que esté en Edimburgo.

Great food and atmosphere. An authentic, cosy and lively venue. The breakfast burritos are great. I opted for the large breakfast as I wanted to try the haggis and sausage. The coffee isn't the best unfortunately, it wasn't bad but just not what I expected. Seating is limited, there is a small 2 seater table, 3 seater and two 3\4 seaters. The staff were great too. Queued for the best part of half an hour last Sunday to get breakfast here after skipping Saturdays queue due to a hangover. Glad we bothered because it was THE BEST. Get the full Scottish, 10/10. Great service and price too. Had a cake to takeaway which wasn't the best though but the breakfast made up for it.

We visited based on the reviews on trip adviser and were not disappointed but not wowed either. The food was good, the kids enjoyed their pancakes and the full Scot breakfast was as expected but nothing more. The place is very intimate with only 4 tables and I think the wow could have been added by the service given the intimacy, this was missing for me. Don’t get me wrong they were all pleasant and served you ok but it could be amazing with a little more attention and time given to interact with customers!

A short walk from where we were staying and on the bus route to town so the ideal place for breakfast. We both chose the full Scottish, which included juice (Or a hot dink). Very tasty food cooked to order. This is a pretty small cafe with limited seating and in close proximity to the kitchen/servery so this was not a 'relaxed' breakfast due to the crashing of pots, pans and washing up in the kitchen - I appreciate there is food to prepare but it did seem particularly noisy. The staff were a little 'too cool for school' - friendly but kind of not. Still worth going because the food is good!

this little cafe is a gem! it opens nice and early with the smell of freshly baked scones (they are delicious!). you can get a delicious breakfast here and the place is fun and quirky. if you can't sit take something away.

Went to the cafe, just an FYI the place is very small (4/5 tables). I went in looking for a table for one person, was told to come back in 20mins (no problem) came back and all tables had new people sitting down, the guy behind the counter was surprised I had come back and said sorry there was no table and asked me to wait again - even though none of the tables had even ordered their food. Service was disappointing in that way, no opinion on the food as I didn’t get to eat there.

Stopped for breakfast and coffee on the walk to the Royal Botanical Garden in Edinburgh. Very cozy with room for 4 only tables but we got a table and service straightaway. Very popular spot with near constant walk-in takeaway business which added to the bustling vibe.

The cafe was full when we entered and we waited in the car for 30 minutes for our turn. We were not disappointed with the food and coffee. The pancakes are good and the traditional Scottish breakfast is good enough for brunch. The cafe owner was warm and friendly to diners and even made a Nutella pancake (not in the menu) for one of the kids in our group. Come early as there are few seats available.

As expected the food was delicious (going by other reviews). I got the raspberry and banana pancakes which were superb.

If I could give it a million stars I would. The vegan options are vast and my omni boyfriend was super happy with all of the meat options. GET THE BURRITO! You won’t regret it!

This little gem served the most delicious pancakes I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. I ordered the cheddar pancake with pulled pork and it was phenomenal. My husband ordered the traditional breakfast and it was delicious as well. The staff was very kind and accommodating (we came with a stroller) considering the venue is small. This is a cash only joint so come prepared.

The cash only policy is a little bit of a problem for me, the only place where we couldn’t use the card on the trip. There is an atm nearby. Food was good, decently priced and with good taste, the restaurant is small and can be easily crowded.

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast here after having problems at our hotel. The food was fantastic and made fresh! The staff were lovely and great at entertaining our children!

Quite a cramped place with only four tables or so....however the food is excellent and the staff are so warm and friendly. Very popular with the locals.

We came here for breakfast on our first morning in Edimburgh after reading amazing reviews and we haven't been disappointed! I ordered the gluten free pancakes and they were just to die for, the maple syrup was unreal- I don't know where they find it. Great coffee too! It's tiny so you might have to order to take away or wait but it's definitely worth it. Also: great playlist :)

My partner and I stumbled upon this cafe on our first day in Edinburgh during a weekend stay. Sadly there were no vacant tables, however the very helpful server offered to reserve us a table and then offered us his phone number on the off chance we wanted to cancel. We left and were then halfway down the road when we heard the man shouting us back as a table had just became free! We went back and are so glad we did. The food was served quickly and tasted fantastic. I can't recommend the classic breakfast burrito enough. Great service and great food, would highly recommend!!

The bluebird Café does not have many seats, and perhaps the world's smallest bathroom, but what it lacks in space and seating it makes up for with great atmosphere, wonderful food and friendly staff. Get here a bit early if you want a seat. Locals pop in for breakfast to go, and there is always friendly banter to be heard. Will certainly be visiting again.

Highly recommend this place! I had the chicken burrito and the pancakes and I'm am absolutely stunned by the heavenly taste and the excellence of the costumer service. It's a must go if you are in Edinburgh. Huge shout out to Amy and Luis for a magnificent service on top of the amazing food.

We walked there for breakfast after reading the reviews on trip advisor and it was better than expected! A small place but we got a seat, great helpful staff and superb coffee and breakfast. I had the full scottish and my wife the yummy pancakes. Will definitely visit again! Lots of locals were calling in too for takeaway breakfast/coffee

Un petit restaurant avec quatre tables, pour un service de très bonne qualité. La nourriture tout simplement excellent et le personnel charmant ,on rendu notre déjeuner très agréable. Les pancakes etaient délicieux mais un gros coup de cœur pour les borrito. Je recommande !!!

We went here for breakfast while visiting Edinburgh for a few days. It’s no 1 on TripAdvisor for breakfast for good reason! Probably our favorite meal and this place surpassed all expectations! From the cute decor of this quaint little gem to the super friendly service and the gorgeous food, all boxes were well and truly ticked! We feasted on the yummy breakfast burrito, banoffi pancakes and the homemade scones! We would have happily camped here for the day until our bellies were well and truly round and we were rolled out of there! Would come back to Edinburgh to visit this place alone! ❤️

My parter & I visited the cafe for breakfast and it was lovely. I had the full Scottish breakfast and he had blueberry pancakes and we both enjoyed it very much. The staff were lovely too. Would deffo recommend a visit.

Visité este pequeño pero encantador café cuando visité Edimburgo. Era mi cumpleaños y el de mis hijas, y habíamos utilizado Trip Advisor para encontrar el lugar perfecto para el descanso. Estuvimos muy contentos de que lo verificamos ya que fue fabuloso. Es una buena caminata desde el centro principal y tuvimos suerte de que hubiera espacios, ya que algunos fueron rechazados después. La comida tardó un poco en llegar, pero esto se debe a que cada pedido se hace fresco a pedido. Tuve las tortitas de Banoffee y mi hija tenía tortitas con tocino y jarabe de arce. Ambos increíble yum yum!

Nos saltamos el desayuno en el hotel para viajar al centro de Edimburgo para encontrar este pequeño café en la esquina de la calle después de leer las críticas de sus panqueques. Sabíamos que sería difícil conseguir una mesa, ya que era un espacio tan pequeño y limitado, y tuvimos que regresar 45 minutos después de llegar. Panqueques con huevos escalfados de tocino y jarabe de arce x 2. Todo recién hecho, así que la velocidad no es la prioridad aquí y sentimos que valió la pena la espera. Wir hatten einen leckeren Burrito und drei Pancakes, dazu eine heisse Schokolade und einen sehr leckeren Apfel-Zimt Tee. Der Service war okay, nichts besonderes, das Essen war lecker. Die Preise sind in Ordnung, halt typisch Großbritannien. Sehr kleines Café mit etwa 10 Plätzen, niedlich eingerichtet. Wir würden jedoch nächstes Mal eher noch weitere Cafés ausprobieren, da uns dieses jetzt nicht maßlos vom Hocker gehauen hat. Aber wir bereuen es keinesfalls, hier eingekehrt zu sein.
