We’re not from the area and were pleasantly surprised to find this wee gem of a cafe after a family trek through Cavehill country park. Food was fantastic and service was swift, warm and friendly. The fry was very tasty and the kids enjoyed pancakes with lashings of Nutella. Just what we needed after a good walk in the fresh air. We’ll be making a point of returning the next time we’re in town.

As the saying goes “Never judge a book by the cover “. The Bluebell is mainly a bakery but has a small cafe, I’ve eaten in here a few times and they have to be applauded for the consistency of the food and service. Ideal for a breakfast fry, light lunch or coffee meet-up. The produce is freshly prepared , the staff are friendly and very welcoming. A good range of produce to choose from, popular with locals and always seems to be a buzz about it. I really think the Bluebell deserves full credit, especially for customer service .

Came here for a late lunch mid-afternoon, just as the market was closing. The first floor balcony overlooking the market was lovely, but we soon learnt that it was easy to be forgotten there. After about 20 minutes I had to wave at a server inside before anyone would come to take a drinks order. Ordered the food when the drinks arrived, and then another long wait. Maybe it was a staff changeover or they were taking a break after the lunchtime peak, but everything was just too slow. Saying that, the servers were really friendly and helpful and the food was very good. The bar and indoor seating areas are also very nicely appointed. We paid the included service charge but maybe we shouldn’t have. Hoping for a better experience next time.

Went in at 11 30 on a Monday, was seated immediately and given a menu. It was very slow, no more than 1 or 2 customers in the whole place. 10 minutes later I left after being totally ignored. If a restaurant has no interest in serving customers - why even open the doors?

I phoned the number on the website to confirm that it's closed and I was told that it's closed entirely, only writing a review so others see it.

This is by far, one of the best that I have tried ~ Irish Stew & Scones too. Tucked away on Upper Newtownards Road in East Belfast, The Lamppost Café is more than just a charming eatery—it’s a heartfelt tribute to Belfast-born author C.S. Lewis and his beloved Chronicles of Narnia. Just a short stroll from CS Lewis Square, the café immerses visitors in a whimsical, vintage atmosphere reminiscent of stepping through the wardrobe into Narnia. Every detail inside The Lamppost Café pays homage to Lewis’s legacy. From antique crockery and Narnia-inspired artwork to a ragtime soundtrack, the ambiance transports guests to another era. Upstairs, the Writers’ Room offers a serene space modeled after Lewis’s own study, complete with bookshelves, chess boards, and cozy corners perfect for reading or reflection. The café is renowned for its hearty, home-cooked meals, including traditional Irish stews, pies, and a variety of vegetarian and vegan options. It’s also dog-friendly, welcoming four-legged companions to join in the cozy experience. In 2023, the café faced an unexpected challenge when its iconic lamppost—a symbol of its Narnian theme—was stolen. The community rallied in support, sharing the news widely in hopes of its return. Whether you’re a literature enthusiast, a fan of cozy cafés, or simply seeking a unique spot to relax, The Lamppost Café offers a magical escape that celebrates the imagination and warmth of C.S. Lewis’s world.
