Blue Jasmine in Southampton

First time at Blue Jasmine on a cold January evening and immediately taken by the location looking out over the Marina and the impressive frontage to the restaurant. Inside it is smart and modern but welcoming with several different aspects and table arrangements. The menu is designed as a mix of individual and sharing plates, a 'tapasia', offering a range of Asian informed food to suit all tastes and preferences. The food was excellent with group highlights being the sea bass with ginger and spring onion in a parcel, salmon massaman and diced beef fillet with a black pepper sauce. If you like your wine there are plenty of well selected bottles on the list and that was another group highlight. We had an excellent night out with first class service in spite of the weather - well worth a visit and we will be back.

Beautiful restaurant. Food was fabulous - lots of fresh, tasty flavours. For the best and most authentic experience, courses are designed to be shared. Excellent wine and service too.

This restaurant used to be a very posh upmarket Chinese restaurant but has changed to attract a different crowd. There was a large Xmas party near to us and we asked to be moved because they were shouting and screaming but we were told this was not possible. They were told to be quiet. The portions were miniscule and the prices sky high. We had a few of the tapas style dishes with a glass of wine each and had very little change from £85.00. The target market seems to be the young cocktail crowd who probably don't give a damn about the food. Shame as it is in perfect location

We have been to Blue Jasmine multiple times over the years for special occasions as the food was always incredible specially the duck pancakes. We have introduced the restaurant to various family & friends over the years where our review was so highly rated. We thought to celebrate the end of 2024 by visiting Blue Jasmine and came to realise very quickly there was new management. If you are used to the old Blue Jasmine, the only similarity is the décor and the high prices. The food is flavourless, the duck pancakes are below standard for the price and the portion sizes are smaller than ever for similar prices. The service is friendly but not attentive as previously such as they no longer take your coat when you walked through the door, refill water or clean tables as often. We honestly Blue Jasmine was on the road to becoming a Michelin Star Restaurant, now we see it as a skimp and save restaurant which we will no longer be visiting.

Wow wow wow!! From start to finish, an excellent experience of Asian tapas and fantastic wines: we cannot wait to visit again. Blue Jasmine had been on our radar for a couple of months to try. An easy, flat, 10/15 minute walk from West Quay, we incorporated visiting for Saturday lunch after a shopping morning. An absolutely beautiful setting in Ocean Village, Blue Jasmine offers a stunning bar, terrace and restaurant overlooking the yachts of the marina and beyond. A warm welcome from all and we started with a drink at the beautiful bar /lounge area before moving into the restaurant area; Warm woods, stunning lighting, cosy booths, attention to detail and of course, the view !! Service was top notch with helpful recommendations of how much to order and we settled on seven or eight dishes between the four of us. We chose some of the usual traditional offerings such as crispy duck with pancakes and spring rolls plus some new dishes (to us) such as honey and lemon chicken with the addition of pomegranate, Salmon Massaman and a Thai roasted chicken with tamarind and mint dipping sauce and Himalayan Pink salt. Salivating at the memory of that dish. By their recommendation we had a bottle of Italian red that somehow magically went with all the dishes we had. (A Barbera D’Asta, which was exclusive to them ) . Service was warm, welcoming and attentive throughout, we felt really valued and appreciated: I really can’t speak highly enough of the place and cannot wait to go back. You can easily set this as the place for either an easy going but top notch light lunch, as well as a THE place for a special occasion due to sumptuous setting and decor, and food and wine to warrant making a special trip for. We hosted our Christmas party here this year. There were 13 of us in the group and we did an amazing cocktail making masterclass before enjoying a fantastic dinner. We were so well looked after and the experience was top class from the food quality to the service!

Having been to Blue jasmine about 5 times the food was always delicious that’s when it was under the old management. The tapas menu under new management is no where close to the original standard. I understand the new vibe they are trying to go for but the quality of food was quite sub standard and overall felt quite cheap. Wouldn’t go back

We went back here after a brief closure and new management. Seeing the changed name and range of menu, I was pretty certain they’ve given up fine dining and went cheap, in order to survive in this local market environment for mass than high end. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the fact that cooking quality is maintained from the fine dining past. Inevitably there are no longer expensive materials like bluefin tuna nor caviar, but the quality of cooking stayed as good as before. I think the same chef remained despite the change of management. The selection of drinks got smaller too but there are many unusual good drinks at accessible price. In summary, quality of food and drinks stays very good while portions got a little smaller with a big drop in price, which allows we can have many more different tastes with a lot smaller bill. We will definitely come back many times again, even more often than before.

We were excited to try the new concept after enjoying some very nice meals at Blue Jasmine. Sadly we were very disappointed. We had a friendly welcome, service was good. We wanted to order a bottle of wine which wasn't available, we were offered a taste of another but it wasn't for us. It's disappointing when there isn't a huge wine list to find one that's not available. We had a glass of wine and a beer instead. The main problem for us was the food, the menu for tapas isn't very big, portions are tiny, prices are high and the food wasn't hot enough. None of the dishes had anything special about them and we have had better when we've had a takeaway from somewhere else. For the surroundings and the price it just doesn't live up to it. We won't be back unless these issues are resolved.

We go frequently to blue jasmine to celebrate special occasions and enjoy an amazing dinner to this beautiful venue. After a very warm welcoming from the hostess, we were informed that the whole theme of the restaurant has been changed from fine dining to tapas. This didn’t stop us because we were used to the fantastic dishes of the amazing chefs in the kitchen. After we sat and we were asking about the new menu we were told that the whole kitchen team and all the management has been changed with the new ownership. So we started with 2 cocktails the classic jasmine blues which was delicious a bit different from the old one but still good, my wife ordered the cloverlilly which she wasn’t very happy about it but drunk it anyway. Now the food was a bit of a let down. We ordered a variety of dishes to check the new flavours but for us didn’t work. Prawns with wasabi cooked good but the wasabi wasn’t for me as good , wife liked it, now chicken honey lemon was average , Thai chicken average fried chicken with store bought sweet chilly sauce … calamari very plain but very well cooked, the duck was very dry but the skin was crispy the rice was very good and suprisingly the BEST dumplings we ever had. As I said it’s not bad , but very average food given the prices that you pay. Before the food was amazing but with the new theme it’s not special anymore and it’s just seems like an average place. Pity cause we used to love this restaurant cause it was special.

Had a very enjoyable evening, arrived early as we decided to sample some of the cocktails and the reception team were excellent and couldn't have done more to help. Went into the restaurant, initial service very good and honest assessments when asking on whether we should have starters with duck or extra rice etc. Duck appertiser was excellent, mains also good. Disappointments were they let our wine run out without topping up, not a big deal if the wine is within nearby but it's not!Finally caught the eye of the sommelier to have the top up. Then coming to have the bill paid took far too long and when I commented on the issue with the delay it wasn't acknowledged. I would say the issue is I think we had 3 servers, bring it to one and then you won't feel like they forgot you. But we will be back so all in an excellent just a shame at the end.

Me, my parents and my partner decided to treat ourselves to a meal here and I am SO glad we did. Not being a particularly adventurous eater, I wasn’t entirely sure how the food would go down but it was honestly incredible. We all had a variety of dishes varying from the seafood to pork. All of which was delicious, I can’t stop raving about it. The staff are amazing, our server gave us a few recommendations which we followed and it absolutely paid off! Can’t wait to come back and show the great food to our friends!

Amazing restaurant. Great choice, quite expensive but you get quality food. Partner loved it aswell. Ideal for a date night.

The moment you arrive at the reception desk you know you are somewhere special. The staff are very welcoming and attentive. The menu reads well but is even better to taste. Fabulous flavours. Well worth a visit

Been to blue a few times so came back after a while of not going and was a bit disappointed food and drinks was lovely but the service wasn’t the best. We had to wait 30 minutes or even a bit longer just to get a drink menu after finishing our food and didn’t even get offered a desserts menu and there wasn’t much interaction with the waiters

Great food and a beautiful interior- definitely one of the best in Southampton. Went with friends and have already planned to go again!

The vegan starter was either a bowl of peanuts or a tiny cup of lotus root. I ordered both, neither of which were nice. My main was ok, albeit quite basic (soy mushroom and aubergine). The dessert was sorbet. In this day and age they really need more vegan options and some tofu dishes on the menu. It was also really cold in the restaurant.

This was such a special evening, the food was so delicious, we had 3 courses and all tried a bit of each other’s food. Every morsel of food just melted in your mouth. Our server Filipa was so knowledgeable about the whole menu. The cocktails were so decadent, you really were made to feel so special. We were celebrating my friends great news about a health issue, so we celebrated with a bottle of Cristal. Only issue was paying the bill, my friend had her cards stolen and wanted to pay cash, the manager was very rude, he did not handle the situation very well. When your bill is more than £600 for 3 you would expect him to be a bit more discreet, instead he stood above her and made her feel so uncomfortable as he was making a scene. We have frequented the restaurant since they opened, sadly we haven’t been back because of the humiliation brought about by the manager.

Without doubt the best restaurant in the south. The staff food and decor are first class. Attention to detail truly wonderful service and amazing food. They had added new dishes to the menu to go along side the firm favourites. Delicious. Their NewYear menu ends after the 24/2 so hurry as you won’t want to miss the fantastic dessert. Such an amazing treat to top off a tasty main and starter.

Really disappointed. Paid 216 pounds for 2 people. Service charge automatically added on. We ordered 2 Chinese new year set menus - really disappointed. Pork ribs flavourless. As a main dish 2 tiny pork ribs per person. Three starters. Again flavourless. Dumplings plain. None of it tasted like it was freshly prepared. Very disappointed to pay 216 and leave the meal hungry. Was not expecting to have to share every plate when ordering our own set menu each. Was unfortunately one of the worst dining experience of our lives. Over priced and without flavour. On a positive note the service was good and pudding was acceptable. Good ambiance. But would really advise others to avoid this place.

Great location, great food, great service. Honestly could not fault it. Is reasonably priced for Southampton and they cater very well to dietary needs. Give it a try.

We were really disappointed with our dinner. The restaurant was so cold we had to keep our coats on and the food was very mediocre. It came out separately with my husband’s arriving first, another table being served and then mine coming a bit later with our extras even later. It wasn’t hot and no one asked us how it was. I was expecting amazing food and service given the pricing but it was quite the opposite. On the plus side, the drinks were amazing. A shame the food wasn’t and the place was freezing!

I’ve eaten here on a number of occasions and it is by far the best restaurant that I’ve eaten at in Southampton. The location is beautiful, service is great and the food is delicious. Yes it’s expensive and based on my experience it is worth every penny.

Really disappointed with the quality of the food. This restaurant pretends to be some sort of Michelin star oriental restaurant (it’s not) and its menu is Michelin star prices… but we’ve had better oriental food from our local Chinese takeaway and Wagamama! £22 for a tiny pot of vegetables and £18 for a bland bowl of rice noodles? Come on. We’ve been to restaurants that charge those sorts of prices and the food has been exquisite and we’ve been happy to pay that. But at this restaurant, we felt robbed. Only good thing was the service.

Food quality was ok with a nice blend of different meals on offer. Overall we found this an expensive restaurant for food that wasn’t awe inspiring.

Whilst staying at the Harbour Hotel, we took the opportunity to eat at Blue Jasmine, it was a Friday night, not so busy being the end of February but, the place looks amazing and upscale with the blue lights. Starter was really nice, but unfortunately my main arrived but without rice, I waited and still didn't arrive, my wife started her main and I waited. The manager realised what happened and came over and removed my main dish and also my wife's and took it back to the kitchen and they completely did both dishes fresh again, there was no hesitation about this. It was so professional and clear, this was a quality restaurant and did not suffer sub standard service or food. The food was excellent and we can't wait to book another weekend at Ocean Village and to visit Blue Jasmin again, it was really was fantastic.

very special restaurant for that special occasion. Unlike anywhere else. We've been several times, food is delicious. I've loved everything I've tried here but can't remember what any of the dishes were called, posted some photos though.

Not sure where to start here given everything was perfect: - fantastic service: our waiter knew the menu really well and was able to advise perfectly on what dishes suited someone with a particular food intolerance - every single dish was very tasty and cooked to perfection - the venue and area are stunning, just by the marina overlooking the waterfront - prices were actually just right given the high-end standard of the restaurant

Lovely place ,amazing staff , £226.00 including 2 cocktails house bottle of red food was nice but not as good as thought it would be ,but again staff and venue 1st glass ..

My daughter and I visited this restaurant without a reservation. The service and attention to detail was excellent. My daughter has several allergies and our waiter ( I didn’t get his name but he was Greek), went above and beyond to make our dining experience memorable, which he did. The menu was explained in detail, the chef consulted more than once on my daughter’s choices, nothing was too much trouble. Do not miss out on the wonderful food available to you if you are in Southampton. Highly recommended.

Found this place when trying to find somewhere upmarket for lunch. So glad we discovered this place. Lovely surroundings and great staff made even better by an amazing sharing platter of delicious food We will definitely be back.

Lovely food fab service. But The cutlery was terrible if your a bit older need to consider this as most of the people were older
