Absolutely stunning location tucked away on the top of Exmoor, stopped of on the way though, and was great by Jake, Eva and issie, we decided to eat outside as it’s definitely not worth missing those days in the sun, I chose the 12 oz pork chop and it was honestly stunning. My partner had the lambs shank and honestly it could off fallen of the bone. Great pub and they even have Korev on draught which makes it better Will definitely return( have returned on the 27th of November) and was just as truly amazing

My husband and I stayed here for the weekend this month to celebrate our 10year wedding anniversary. We booked dinner for the Friday night, which was excellent- food and live music! Breakfast both mornings-delicious. Sunday roast- also wonderful! The rooms and restaurant areas were super clean and cosy! The staff were all really friendly. I noticed the pub and Lynmouth area is really dog friendly. Amazing walks around- we had never been to Lynmouth/Lynton before but I highly recommend! The walks were great! Will definitely be making a visit again!

Lovely Old Pub perfectly furnished. The lovely Staff make it welcoming comfortable and Cosy. Excellent Varied Menue. I went for the Mushroom Aranchini - (my first and delicious) not having a huge appetite with a portion of Truffle Chips in case the Starter didn’t quite fill me . The Mushroom Aranchini would have sufficed quite well - but the chips were lush even though I could not manage the last couple. My Husband had the Steal and Ale Pie which was superb as were the vegtables.

Lovely rustic atmosphere, welcoming staff and very good food. (We’ve been in for lunch and dinner.) The pub is located in an area with breathtaking scenery, offering a number of magnificent walks straight from the door. It’s dog-friendly and, each time we ate there, the staff booked us a corner table, ensuring that our dog also enjoyed his visit. We will return!

What a fantastic, quirky but traditional old coaching Inn. Full of character, ideally situated. Read what's on the packet, if you accept that you will not be disappointed. Be patient, food is excellent but prepared to order so expect a relaxing quality meal which is not to be rushed. A little gem which we are glad we have found.

Food was lovely, service was awful, started off well,. Waiter arrived with wrong food, then item missed off another meal. Ordered more drinks, and had to ask where they were 20 minutes later. They took ages to clear the table, when he finally came over, we asked for dessert menu, then was told it was too late as they had closed the kitchen, bearing in mind we booked the table for 7pm. Such as shame, put us off coming back .

It's the staff that really makes this place - everyone who works here seems focused on looking after their guests, and we (and our dog) were made to feel very welcome from the time we arrived until the morning we left. There was nothing that was too much trouble. They had even put dog bowls, a ball and good-quality dog treats in the room. The room wasn't luxurious, but was very cosy and comfortable with tea- and coffee-making facilities (and biscuits that were replenished every day). The WiFi was very good, considering the isolated location. There was absolutely no noise at night, either from outside or from neighbouring rooms, and we slept very well. The bathroom was tired and a little shabby, and in need of refurbishment. The shower head was tiny, and taking a shower felt like standing under a tap: it wasn't really very relaxing. But the towels were soft and the toiletries provided were good quality (Elemis). The restaurant is excellent, serving superior pub grub that is cooked and presented beautifully. We enjoyed dinner there every evening. Breakfast consists of both a cold buffet and a wide range of hot dishes cooked to order. Breakfast is served very late, though (it starts at 8.30), which we found a little inconvenient because we would have preferred to get out earlier and make the most of our time in Devon.

Really good dinner had in the pub. Welcoming for dogs and the staff very friendly. Having been disappointed with a number of the pubs in and around Exmoor we didn’t have high hopes but we were both pleasantly surprised with good choice on the menu, great atmosphere and well priced. Hairy drive home across the moor when it’s foggy!

Love the fact that the bathroom is a wet room! Food is delicious and great value with the menu catering for all. The South west coastal path can be easily accessed from the Pub. Would highly recommend a visit and I can’t wait to return! Thank you for a great stay.

We visited the Blue Ball for lunch for a family get together. We were extremely disappointed with the menu: no sandwiches, no ploughmans. We ordered a selection of starters instead. The soup arrived cold, although it tasted alright. The crab cakes were a disaster, they were almost flat and overcooked to the point of being completely dried out. Certainly no taste to them and nothing to bite into except burnt breadcrumbs. We ordered two coffees and had to chase them up because they didn't arrive. The place was nearly deserted and the service was extremely slow. We used to regularly visit the Blue Ball and it was always the "go to" place for us. We've tried it several times since it was taken over by the brewery and each time we say we'll never return, but we didn't make the booking this time! The place was always packed and had a great atmosphere, it's completely lacking everything now and we won't be returning, there are far better places to visit in Lynton and Lynmouth.

My daughter and I had a Sunday evening meal here at the weekend and were disappointed after hearing good things. The setting on Exmoor is stunning and the pub with its low ceilings and beams has the potential to be atmospheric on a different night of the week (and when they're not running out of ingredients after their Sunday roasts). £19 for a fish pie in a shallow ceramic dish barely bigger than crème brûlée size with three prawns and one tiny morsel of fish, accompanied by a couple of tired looking broccoli spears, was not what I'd hoped to be served. I complained and was given a second fish pie and more veg, amounting to what I should have received in the first place.

Great location for walking routes. Bedroom (upstairs room)was clean & serviced. Room tv was a nightmare, plenty storage, couldn't have window blind up due to random people walking By window. Towel heater in bathroom didn't work (needed for walkers) All staff were pleasant. Good breakfast choice, although sometimes up to an hours wait for cooked as pretty short staffed which isn't great with a 1hr breakfast time but the staff do work hard. Music at breakfast one morning was loud and not conducive to a breakfast environment. Ample parking. Afternoon/Evening meal choices not great needs more appeal to increase customers. The place has a lot of potential but needs more staff and revamp of meals available etc. Certainly recommended for walkers

My wife and I have been going to the Blue Ball Inn for at least 10 years on and off and in fact it is one of the main reasons we go to Exmoor as we both love the pub. We went yesterday for my birthday and as always were greeted well, the place is always clean and tidy, we just love it. We intended to have lunch so got our drinks and sat down to look through the menu, we noticed how it had changed from our last visit and the prices as well. The food was well presented and was great however when we got the bill presented in a folded cardboard presentation wallet if you want to call it that, everything was fine but the prices are now way to high including the drinks, £5.55 for a pint of cider in Devon I think is way too high. This used to be a lovely pub which it still is but I get the impression they are trying to turn it into some kind of gastro pub which is a real shame, there are a lot of hikers passing through as well, what people want is a good pub with good wholesome pub grub not fancy food at restaurant prices. Very sadly we will not be going back to the Blue Ball again, shame as we both loved it.

Visited with my husband whilst on holiday in North Devon. Lovely country style pub with well cared for beer according to my husband. We felt very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for Abi who was looking after our table. She was very professional and attentive despite there being a large demanding group behind us in the restaurant. My husband had a delicious pork belly roast with an enormous Yorkshire pudding which he said was one of the best he had had. I chose the Spanish stuffed chicken with new potatoes which was scrummy. Dessert was shared - a gorgeous clotted cream cheesecake. The pub welcomes dogs too. Will definitely visit again and would highly recommend

Staff, service and rooms were brilliant as usual but the food and service on the first night was bordering on poor with one of the party suffering from an upset stomach! Staying nearby on holiday with our dog we booked a table online which was simple. Large carpark opposite, this friendly pub was busy with locals in the bar, which was good to see. Free treats for dog is a nice touch. The restaurant is through the bar, an interesting smart country looking collection of tables with chairs or rustic benches, with cushions to make them more comfortable to sit on. The menu was great for my husband but as a fussy vegetarian, there wasn't anything on mains menu I liked look of (a non meat burger or buddah type bowl would've been nice to see). However staff were happy to let me choose a mixture of starters and sides to make up a meal. Food excellent and service great. We didn't have room for dessert but they looked good. Ask for a table away from the toilets (which were spotless btw). I was sat on a bench next to the door and could smell a slight chemical smell the whole time). Would definitely return when next in the area.

Despite reading very mixed reviews we decided to return to the Blue Ball for dinner on Monday evening as we've always enjoyed it very much in the past. We were very happy with our meals, so much so that we booked again for Wednesday evening. The young staff were very nice and friendly and very efficient, and the place still has a good atmosphere. I don't understand the comments regarding the food being over priced, all seemed very fair to us. The only comment we would make is that the menu doesn't have the widest choice especially on an evening when there are no specials, and both evenings there were dishes not available from the main menu which was a shame. However won't stop us returning when we're next in Lynmouth.

We stay at this Inn once a year for 5 nights and have seen the ownership change 3 times. The Inn never really changes, which is why we come back year after year except there were less dog owners staying this year. This might have something to do with a £15 per night supplement rather than per stay. What we have noticed is that the drink charges are now on the high side at £8.80 for an ale and a Diet Coke. Being tight we only had one drink at the bar instead we frequented other pubs. This was a break from our normal tradition of drinking at the Inn every night. Also for the first time ever we didn’t eat at the Inn in the evenings this year. Maybe the food has gone upmarket just a little with prices to match? All in all a nice stay with a good breakfast. We will hopefully be back, as the Blue Ball Inn is something special.

The pub itself is beautiful. We were sat in the bar area as we had dogs with us, which was spacious and open. The pub has a nice atmosphere and welcoming hosts. Unfortunately, the food is not a good standard which you would expect with the prices you are paying. Steak sub-par, the cheese on the burger grilled until rock hard, and the seafood sharing platter is definitely not worth the £42 price. When we commented on the prawns the waiter said he would speak to the chef and didn’t come back to us; we had to ask again when the meal ended (and I’m pretty sure the waiter had not fed back as he suggested). Hopefully this was just an ‘off-day’ for the Blue Ball, because it was nice and was surprisingly busy for a remote pub, but I would suggest that there needs to be more communication between the waiting and kitchen staff so issues as voiced can try to be rectified.

It's a 14th-century building. With a very clean room. The most comfortable beds and ultra clean bedding. Extra radiators if you are cold and need extra warmth. There were candles on every table, but they were unlit. I just think that in a building like that, it would bring ambience to the 14th century building.. having said that all the staff could not have been more welcoming or could not have gone the extra mile. Nothing was too much they were all so lovely!!! We had such a nice time in the most awful weather. If you want a comfortable stay, with lovely food, beautiful surroundings with welcoming staff, this is a lovely retreat. Oh, and I ate far too much for a two night stay because I couldn't resist. I booked online a week or two in advance for Easter Sunday lunch. I had chosen this pub as it had good reviews and, as I'm vegetarian, I was impressed that it had two vegetarian options for a Sunday roast, and both sounded tasty (an apricot and nut roast or a vegetarian Wellington). In the booking form there was a box for any extra information I wanted to give so I stated I was vegetarian, assuming that the menu would be as advertised. When we arrived the staff member told us that both the vegetarian options weren't available but there was a 'special' - stuffed butternut squash. Our booking was at 12.45 pm so it was a bit early for them to have run out, if that was the case. I told her I was disappointed but she didn't really comment. When the food came the dish was okay but basically it was half a butternut squash (not particularly appetising) with a bit of topping (quite tasty but not enough of it), along with all the usual roast potatoes, etc. It was well presented though and the vegetables were nicely cooked. When the staff member cleared our plates and asked if everything had been okay I said again that I was disappointed about the vegetarian roast options not being available and that that was why I'd booked this particular pub - because of the choice and that they both sounded nice. I don't think she quite understood what I meant because she just agreed with me that these other options are tasty! She said they'd be on the menu again the following week but as we were only visiting obviously this didn't really help! My partner said his food was okay (the roast beef). It's a nice pub and seemed friendly and busy so had a nice atmosphere but I really was disappointed as I'd been looking forward to a really nice Easter Sunday roast dinner.

Second time staying here- the room , service and location were all fantastic- food let things down a bit this time unfortunately for both dinner and breakfast. Such a shame as we really love the location and rooms. Bread starter was very basic, steak was very tough and fatty ( sauce was nice ) and lamb lacked flavour. Sticky toffee pudding was nice though and the wine very reasonably priced. The continental breakfast was good but the cooked eggs tasted quite burnt as did the mushrooms. Lost the foodie magic we experienced on our previous visit, but maybe just need to order different things next time. Would still most definitely recommend though. Great for dogs , and they get a goodie bag in the room which is a lovely touch.

We have visited several times, over last few years, for lunches and dinners. Our most recent visit for Sunday lunch, we noticed an absence of the friendly banter from staff. Most were stern faced and “business like” rather than friendly. Service was very good and food was good, not great. Looked like roast meat had been in a heater for a while - dry around the edges and veg was just warm. It’s in a beautiful place and will always benefit from walkers and tourists to this area. I mentioned the Beef was a bit tough, without looking up the member of staff said “ will feed this back”. Nothing else. Really good food, you do have to wait awhile, but worth it. Bedroom was very comfortable and great bath/shower. Great walks near the sea near by.

Beautiful location very remote. Log burner makes it really cosy. Food was of a high standard - starters are more like mains! Gorgeous mussels. Thanks so much 😊

A great base for walking and exploring North Devon and possibly the most dog friendly place we’ve ever stayed. Good food, good room, and a really welcoming atmosphere

The staff were great and the ambience is lovely. Sadly the almost inedible meat (both pork and beef) rather spoilt the occasion. It was very bad quality and extremely tough. I would suggest they get a better supplier. Such a shame as it is normally...

Really cute place, even on a rainy day. Went for lunch with friends and we had a lovely time. Portion sizes are great and it's reasonably priced!

We visited this restaurant whilst in town for a few days, it’s a small place so make sure you book. The food was very good, well presented and perfectly seasoned. The service too was attentive and friendly. We would happily come here again, it’s a very good and well ran place.

Not our first visit to the King's Arms, certainly won't be our last. Sunday Roast is delicious. One vegetarian, one chicken. Both SoOoo good. Service is fast, efficient and friendly. There was a very large party of diners getting ready to leave as we arrived. We were seated promptly and given our menus. Once the revellers had vacated the staff cleared/cleaned/re-laid in a speedy and efficient manner. Putting everything to rights for the next sitting of diners. And in they came. We were all served quickly with true efficiency.

I lived in Thailand for 3 years, and the food here is better than most I had in Thailand! Very authentic ingredients, incredibly friendly staff, and very accommodating (special shout out to Sam and Kirsty 🤗). Great atmosphere, would definitely recommend.

Where to start with this gem of a place? My partner and I had the pleasure of staying at the Commodore Hotel, and it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and exceptional service. James and his team just can’t do enough for you. When we arrived in Instow our car key broke and he didn’t hesitate to assist us with fixing it - James went above and beyond, and we will be forever grateful!! The room was immaculate, elegantly decorated, and offered a breathtaking view of the beach, sea and beyond. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a great night's sleep. The on-site restaurant was a culinary delight, offering a wide range of delicious dishes, all perfectly prepared. The staff were attentive and made sure my stay was enjoyable. The location was ideal just set back from the promenade and the hotel has its own private parking which is a game changer for people looking to visit Instow. Overall, the Commodore Hotel provided an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for luxury, comfort, and outstanding service. I will definitely be returning, thank you once again to James, Omer and the wonderful team at The Commodore Hotel.
