Blue Ball Inn in North Devon

Staying nearby on holiday with our dog we booked a table online which was simple. Large carpark opposite, this friendly pub was busy with locals in the bar, which was good to see. Free treats for dog is a nice touch. The restaurant is through the bar, an interesting smart country looking collection of tables with chairs or rustic benches, with cushions to make them more comfortable to sit on. The menu was great for my husband but as a fussy vegetarian, there wasn't anything on mains menu I liked look of (a non meat burger or buddah type bowl would've been nice to see). However staff were happy to let me choose a mixture of starters and sides to make up a meal. Food excellent and service great. We didn't have room for dessert but they looked good. Ask for a table away from the toilets (which were spotless btw). I was sat on a bench next to the door and could smell a slight chemical smell the whole time). Would definitely return when next in the area.

We had a fantastic Sunday roast. The beef was absolutely delicious along with very yummy vegetables. Very attentive staff and good value for money. Looking forward to returning. Highly recommend.

Despite reading very mixed reviews we decided to return to the Blue Ball for dinner on Monday evening as we've always enjoyed it very much in the past. We were very happy with our meals, so much so that we booked again for Wednesday evening. The young staff were very nice and friendly and very efficient, and the place still has a good atmosphere. I don't understand the comments regarding the food being over priced, all seemed very fair to us. The only comment we would make is that the menu doesn't have the widest choice especially on an evening when there are no specials, and both evenings there were dishes not available from the main menu which was a shame. However won't stop us returning when we're next in Lynmouth.

We stay at this Inn once a year for 5 nights and have seen the ownership change 3 times. The Inn never really changes, which is why we come back year after year except there were less dog owners staying this year. This might have something to do with a £15 per night supplement rather than per stay. What we have noticed is that the drink charges are now on the high side at £8.80 for an ale and a Diet Coke. Being tight we only had one drink at the bar instead we frequented other pubs. This was a break from our normal tradition of drinking at the Inn every night. Also for the first time ever we didn’t eat at the Inn in the evenings this year. Maybe the food has gone upmarket just a little with prices to match? All in all a nice stay with a good breakfast. We will hopefully be back, as the Blue Ball Inn is something special.

The pub is very nicely decorated, stylish and clean. The staff were top-notch. We all really enjoyed our food, 2 steak pies great, fish pie great and my steak was delicious. Finished with Waffles and coffee are round. Will be going again soon! Thank you to the Chef and staff. 👏👏👏

Another fantastic visit to this picturesque inn on top of the hill with a breathtaking view. We came for the Sunday lunch and we were not disappointed, in our top 5 in Devon!!! Service was great and will be back again. Stopped off for a trip on the Lynton and Lynmouth railway!!

The pub itself is beautiful. We were sat in the bar area as we had dogs with us, which was spacious and open. The pub has a nice atmosphere and welcoming hosts. Unfortunately, the food is not a good standard which you would expect with the prices you are paying. Steak sub-par, the cheese on the burger grilled until rock hard, and the seafood sharing platter is definitely not worth the £42 price. When we commented on the prawns the waiter said he would speak to the chef and didn’t come back to us; we had to ask again when the meal ended (and I’m pretty sure the waiter had not fed back as he suggested). Hopefully this was just an ‘off-day’ for the Blue Ball, because it was nice and was surprisingly busy for a remote pub, but I would suggest that there needs to be more communication between the waiting and kitchen staff so issues as voiced can try to be rectified.

It's a 14th-century building. With a very clean room. The most comfortable beds and ultra clean bedding. Extra radiators if you are cold and need extra warmth. There were candles on every table, but they were unlit. I just think that in a building like that, it would bring ambience to the 14th century building.. having said that all the staff could not have been more welcoming or could not have gone the extra mile. Nothing was too much they were all so lovely!!! We had such a nice time in the most awful weather. If you want a comfortable stay, with lovely food, beautiful surroundings with welcoming staff, this is a lovely retreat. Oh, and I ate far too much for a two night stay because I couldn't resist. I give you a heart-felt thank you to Hayleigh, June Aden, and Hamish. Nothing was too much for you, and we had a great stay with you all. Thank you. I appreciate all the work you did for us. I booked online a week or two in advance for Easter Sunday lunch. I had chosen this pub as it had good reviews and, as I'm vegetarian, I was impressed that it had two vegetarian options for a Sunday roast, and both sounded tasty (an apricot and nut roast or a vegetarian Wellington). In the booking form there was a box for any extra information I wanted to give so I stated I was vegetarian, assuming that the menu would be as advertised. When we arrived the staff member told us that both the vegetarian options weren't available but there was a 'special' - stuffed butternut squash. Our booking was at 12.45 pm so it was a bit early for them to have run out, if that was the case. I told her I was disappointed but she didn't really comment. When the food came the dish was okay but basically it was half a butternut squash (not particularly appetising) with a bit of topping (quite tasty but not enough of it), along with all the usual roast potatoes, etc. It was well presented though and the vegetables were nicely cooked. When the staff member cleared our plates and asked if everything had been okay I said again that I was disappointed about the vegetarian roast options not being available and that that was why I'd booked this particular pub - because of the choice and that they both sounded nice. I don't think she quite understood what I meant because she just agreed with me that these other options are tasty! She said they'd be on the menu again the following week but as we were only visiting obviously this didn't really help! My partner said his food was okay (the roast beef). It's a nice pub and seemed friendly and busy so had a nice atmosphere but I really was disappointed as I'd been looking forward to a really nice Easter Sunday roast dinner.

The Blue Ball is very welcoming, especially at the end of a difficult 11 mile walk on the coast path from Porlock Weir. Muddy boots were not a problem! The room was well equipped and comfortable and our meal was lovely. Good food and reasonable prices. Breakfast was also very good and the staff are helpful and friendly.

Second time staying here- the room , service and location were all fantastic- food let things down a bit this time unfortunately for both dinner and breakfast. Such a shame as we really love the location and rooms. Bread starter was very basic, steak was very tough and fatty ( sauce was nice ) and lamb lacked flavour. Sticky toffee pudding was nice though and the wine very reasonably priced. The continental breakfast was good but the cooked eggs tasted quite burnt as did the mushrooms. Lost the foodie magic we experienced on our previous visit, but maybe just need to order different things next time. Would still most definitely recommend though. Great for dogs , and they get a goodie bag in the room which is a lovely touch.

Lovely food and great service. We had dinner last weekend on the Saturday evening and thought the food was of a very high standard. The service was efficient and friendly and the pub is surrounded by the beautiful Exmoor countryside.

We found this pub on our way back from Lynton to our holiday home. What an excellent find. We had a very good meal there. We would recommend the sticky belly pork.

We have visited several times, over last few years,for lunches and dinners. Our most recent visit for Sunday lunch, we noticed an absence of the friendly banter from staff. Most were stern faced and “business like” rather than friendly. Service was very good and food was good, not great. Looked like roast meat had been in a heater for a while - dry around the edges and veg was just warm. It’s in a beautiful place and will always benefit from walkers and tourists to this area. I mentioned the Beef was a bit tough, without looking up the member of staff said “ will feed this back”. Nothing else. Disappointing visit but we will return because we have had some great meals here.

Lovely tranquil spot near Lynmouth with plenty of parking. Old fashioned dog friendly pub, full of character. We had a nice evening meal.

The Blue Ball Inn is perfectly located for enjoying the amazing South West Coast/SWC path, we enjoyed a couple of nights stay, we found the food and service beyond our wildest dreams, the food (& cocktails 🍸) need to be experienced, we we’re not disappointed. Definitely give it a go. Enjoy.

In questa zona non sono molti i ristoranti ma devo dire che la scelta è stata ottima Comodo parcheggio, locale veramente caratteristico, in stile retrò , casa di campagna , con camino, arredi in legno , oggetti vintage ecc ecc. El personal es muy amable. Limpian la mesa rápidamente, especialmente para poder utilizar el uno por el quemador de madera.El asado era buena - fabuloso Yorkshire pud (y yo puedo decir porque soy de Yorkshire! ! Y las verduras estándar), carne y salsa. Sopa y un rollo para mí, que era muy bueno, con gusto casero!Lugar perfecto para los senderistas y los perros domésticos en que es genial en mi opinión! ! ! Cuatro de nosotros nos alojamos aquí por una noche (mi esposa, yo y nuestros dos perros) ya que estábamos cerca de la casa de observación. Cada miembro del personal eran muy agradables y serviciales. La habitación que nos dieron estaba limpia y prácticas y hay un gran acceso a la carretera de pierna se extienden a los perros. La cena era sólo el billete, bien generoso para repetir, y el desayuno era realmente excepcional. Se lo recomendaría a cualquiera (especialmente si eres un amante de los perros/walker).

Un Salto a almorzar hoy. El personal es muy hospitalario que encantó perros y había un montón que estaban allí con sus dueños que habían sido disfrutando del paisaje y paseos. La comida fue rápido para llegar. Muy bien preparado y muy sabroso. Gracias a todos los que trabajan allí.

El azul es el más eficiente Ball - run pub nos hemos alojado en, creo!El registro es por el personal del bar, pero en una zona separada, así que no estamos compitiendo con bebedores por espacio bar y no tener que esperar para coger su atención. Una mesa es automáticamente reservado para la primera noche (pero no tienes que usar) y luego en el desayuno que rellenar un formulario para decir si estás comiendo esa noche, y en qué momento.Tuvimos dos cenas en un menú en el que se cubre una buena, pero eran un par de especiales (diferentes); nuestra comida, sabrosa y competente - muy agradable pub cocina - vino rápido, y había un ambiente muy agradable.El desayuno era igualmente eficientes: zumo, cereales y tostadas de servicio, con un desayuno inglés completo (con opción de huevos), desde la cual se puede restar elementos; las presiones en la cocina reducida significa que nuestra comida llegó mucho más rápido (y más caliente! Es generalmente) que el caso.La pelota está en la hermosa azul corta en el país, con una selección de rutas de distintas longitudes se pueden tomar prestadas, más fáciles de seguir por la muy clara la colocación. Después de un agradable paseo por el río East lynn, hicimos el ascenso hasta el camino a Countisbury al Blue Ball. El personal era muy amable y atento. Mi esposa tenía la cadera y cebolla con gran patatas fritas grasa baguette esponjosas y tuve el 'Blue pelota bistec 'Misa del gallo burger. La hamburguesa era abundante y delicioso, con queso, bacon en un rollo de muy buena calidad y con un montón de grandes patatas fritas grasa esponjosas. Mi esposa estaba entusiasmado sobre el bocadillo de carne (me hizo pensar que debería probar que la próxima vez), y fue regado con una pinta de ale (que me pálido homenaje dejó una sensación agradablemente borrosa! Excelente - intención de) volveremos la próxima vez que esté en Exmoor.

Ocho de nosotros (incluyendo 4 niños de 1.5-12 años) comimos temprano cena aquí. Buena comida de pub de calidad: curry de pescado y patatas fritas, hamburguesas, lasaña vegetal, etc. Pedir en el bar, el personal agradable. No excesivamente caro, no demasiado barato. Reservar en temporada alta, casi todas las mesas reservadas cuando estuvimos allí la última semana de vacaciones de verano.

Llegué aquí no mucho después de apertura durante un paseo y quedé muy impresionado con la variedad de cervezas que estaban en grifo. Fuera de la ciudad, así que no vuelva (si el tiempo hubiera sido mejor que hubiera comprometido con el pie). Revienta el menú parece increíble - y trataremos otra vez.

Muy decepcionada con la selección de comida para vegetarianos, había sólo dos cosas en el menú cada noche y cuando nos alojamos estaban ambos platos de pasta. Sólo comimos aquí en la primera noche porque el hotel está en el apartado y no quieres viajar. Leer las críticas nos quedamos con ganas de una delicia gastronómica, así que me temo que no es.

Este hotel es popular entre los senderistas y los que utilizan el aparcamiento de enfrente. La comida es de calidad pero espero pub aquellos que acaba de venir de la ruta costera sur oeste fue muy bien recibido. Hay muchos paseos que comienzan desde el aparcamiento. El paisaje alrededor de la posada es muy dramática.

My 1st visit here and I wasn't disappointed, Great room adequate for my needs, clean and tidy, Shower gel etc in bathroom, Free wifi, Plenty of Tea and Cofee in the room, The restaurant was great value the menue was not massive but well thought out and the food was great, and I will be adding this place for my future visits.

Although an excellent base for walker it is also a place to get away from it all and relax, a bonus being it is doggie friendly with super friendly, helpful staff.
