Blades Barbecue Restaurant in Wandsworth

We visited with friends who live in the area. We were welcomed by the owners and quickly offered drinks. We ordered from the reasonably sized menu. Most of the main courses were cooked by the owner right in front of our eyes on the griddle. My swordfish was really nice - my friends recommended the lamb chops. Lovely atmosphere and service and nice wine - I hope to return sometime soon (I was even chased outside to return my phone which I had left in the table as we left). A proper personable place. Highly recommended.

A wonderful family owned and run restaurant. The husband and wife time seem to be everywhere. The food is amazing with many specials to choose on the day. The wine list is reasonably extensive and well priced. The meal was not that expensive. Look out for the decor of the tables - all decorated by the wife. A real treasure!

We found this little gem on a trip to Fulham for football. Putney itself is lovely. We go to the restaurant each time we stay. The owner and staff are wonderful. Nothing is too much. The food is top notch and wine also. We had starters of spicey octopus and garlic mushrooms and mains rib eye steak and chicken breast. Served with fresh veg. Everything was lovely. No rush with service. Only down side had to pay couple quid for bread. Im sure complimentary won't break the bank. Love it

Wonderful Italian restaurant not far from the river and only a few minutes walk from the High Street. Michele and his charming wife have lifted the food, wine and general ambience to a superb level and I always enjoy our visits. He has fine meat & fish always available and the wine list includes wines from his home region of Puglia. In summary, highly recommended.

What a great little gem. We went after a long cold walk along the river and were delighted by Michael's hospitable welcome and high value-for-money offering. Food quality was great and it seems the owner and his wife have service in their blood, true professionals in every respect. Though I live in Farnham, it's our new local when coming to the river.

Perfectly nice lunch though the open fire grilled dishes better than the pastas. Atmosphere was lovely in the front room but we were in the back which is a bit duller.

Blades is a brilliant restaurant, reliable every time for great food, and friendly, efficient service ftom great staff. The atmosphere manages to be vibrant and intimate at the same time, and the dining space is charming, with effectively separate rooms front and back, and ample al freso seating in warm weather. We are repeat visitors and big fans. Highly recommend.

The best calves liver I have ever had . Delicious food all round . The place was buzzing and busy , full of young and old alike. The decor is quirky and stylish but not so smart that you can’t relax. we will definitely be booking again.

We had dinner at Blades on Friday 10th Feb to celebrate my husbands birthday and a trip to Fulham football club. We were warmly welcomed and offered water while we looked at the menu and wine list (breadsticks on table too) I chose the beetroot, goats cheese and rocket salad which was delicious and husband had bresolata and goats cheese . …Warm bread and butter came with it . My main course spinach and ricotta tortorlina with sage butter and … husband had fillet steak with veg and potatoes. It was all delicious and we were offered bread in between too . We got chatting to Michaele when he explained the wine from Puglia which we had chosen was from the vineyard where he had lived 20 yrs ago. We ordered tiramisu which was wonderful and my husband had a birthday candle 😀. We also met Ebru, Michaels wife who later showed us around and talked about her passion for her painting and sculpture etc . It was a delightful evening , lovely food and excellent genuine hosts .. highly recommend and will definitely be back when next in London .

Blades is our go to restaurant and it never fails. The food, the service and the ambience is outstanding. The owner is helpful and friendly and goes out of his way to accommodate his customers. Highly recommend.

Fabulous food and a great atmosphere all with a smile. Clearly family run and it shows. It’s the nicest place I have eaten in months. Goats cheese and beetroot starter just lovely. And the T-bone veal chop was perfectly cooked and so tasty. I will be back.

Authentic Italian cuisine in a homely atmosphere

We arrived hot and bothered after walking from a Fulham match and were made very welcome. Great food, we started with sardines and burrata with pumpkin, followed by gnocchi and a special, black linguine with crayfish. All were excellent, as was the wines, white grillo and red montepulciano d'abruzzo. Very friendly service.

Brilliant find as part of a weekend trip. The restaurant was brilliant, with a varied menu to suit everyone. The specials board also added extra choices. My nephew said it was the best steak he had eaten! Thought prices were reasonable and will definitely go back next time we visit

The food is mouth wateringly delicious, the staff are friendly and often busy to be sure of a table it is worth booking, although they will always try to fit you in. You can watch the grilled food being cooked. The home made deserts are second to none

We went here on Saturday night for dinner and had a really good experience. Staff are great, knowledgable and friendly, cooking is classic italian, flavoursum and tasty. Good wine offering at a range of price points. I had linguine to start and my partner had the scallops, we then had the venison T-bone and Duck on the specials board. We are already arranging to take friends.

Blades is a long established restaurant in Putney but we hadn’t been for many years. Returned recently and were not disappointed. Lovely ‘holiday’ ambience and the food and service were excellent. Great menu which has a nice range of pasta dishes, salads, and fish and meat/grills, at sensible prices. Daily specials too. It has a lovely authentic Italian atmosphere. Will definitely be returning!

Outstanding quality food in a lovely atmosphere with delightful owners and staff. Truly exceptional local experience. The food was typically local Italian; great choice - the specials were outstanding and difficult to choose between - and beautifully cooked. Helpful advice. We sat in the back room which was airy and perfect and homely. We will undoubtedly become regular visitors. Truly cannot wait to go again. An absolute delight.

West End food at Putney prices! Charming owners - the wife does the delicious food which is beautifully presented. We ate in the light and airy 'terrace' at the rear of the restaurant. It was a splendid meal which we couln't fault. We chose different items. Can't wait to visit again.

Friendly service with delicious food. Perfect local restaurant

It was warm so we ate outside for our lunch, sitting in a secluded patio area with shade which was delightful despite a rather noisy road. The basket of bread was fresh and moreish and I love the thin breadsticks which we were also served. Our sardines starter was fresh and tasty. My lamb chops were delicious and perfectly cooked, as was my daughter’s ribeye steak. Very generous portions served with roast potatoes and veg. We shared a tiramisu which was homemade by the chef, and finished with a pot of peppermint tea each. Our patron’s service was thoughtful and we didn’t feel rushed. We spent a leisurely and delightful afternoon at Blades and I will definitely be going back again.

Our first visit to Blades Restaurant but I hope we will be back again before too long. A very good, quite traditional, neighbourhood Italian restaurant. We really enjoyed the food, the service was great and it was good value. Would recommend highly.

The staff were very friendly but the food was plain.

Upon arrival at Blades we were given a warm welcome from Michele and shown to our well set out table for six. Attention was given to our 3 year old granddaughter who was quickly provided with a booster cushion to sit on. The menu was extensive and varied in choice. All the food chosen was freshly cooked and delicious. I personally chose the crab linguine which was cooked to perfection. The wine was served at just the right temperature to compliment the food. I would strongly recommend Blades for leisurely family lunches/occasions and would say that the residents of Putney are extremely lucky to have this restaurant on their doorstep. If we had not travelled up to London from Norfolk we would be dining there a lot more often. A BIG THANK YOU TO BLADES

Good food and service in an intimate space. Quite a lot of the cooking is done in the restaurant so think about what you wear to dine here as clothes will smell of cooking. This is not a complaint at all but it is good to be aware. Lovely evening and will definitely return

The starter was very small only 2 mushrooms. Sea bass was covered in sauxe covering whole plate like soup. Veg consisted of some soft beans and 1large slixed carrot. Potatoes were nice. The crab special was very boring, and did not present well.

Visited on a Tuesday evening and the restaurant was busy. The best bruschetta I have ever eaten and the best spaghetti bolognese (in the UK). The staff are really attentive here, I love the traditional and rustic feel of the restaurant and very reasonable prices. If you love Italian food, this is the restaurant to visit.

Michael and his wife run an absolutely fantastic authentic Italian restaurant. The food and service is amazing, and the detail and history around the restaurant is unique to say the least. It’s so good, we revisited the following week! For the standard of food, the price is more than reasonable. If you love a vibe like La Famiglia on Kings Road, but on a smaller scale, you simply must visit here!

Nice staff, uncomplicated menu and relaxed atmosphere

After many years my wife and myself had dinner earlier this evening at Blades which used to be one of my favourite local restaurants. The decor was very much the same although it came as a surprise to discover the property was under new management - something tempered by the fact the previous owner not only retains his links with the property but that he still helps out and came into the restaurant shortly after our arrival! We had booked an early dinner at 1800 hours and we’re the first to arrive but an hour later all the front area tables were full. Not surprising as the food (thoroughly enjoyed by Octopus starter, Baby Chicken (with lovely vegetables) and pistachio coated ice cream desert) was delicious and the service as good as ever. All in all, it was a most enjoyable evening and - as such - Blades remains one of my favourite local restaurants!

We went to Blades on Saturday night for the first time since last Summer. It was lovely and had a great atmosphere on a somewhat chilly night. The food and service was excellent. A perfect neighbourhood restaurant.

First meal out after lockdown. Everything was delicious and the service was friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was wonderful, particularly in the sun.

Fantastic! Hearty honest Italian. We were eating outside due to Covid rules so can’t blame the restaurant for not having the best ambiance but they still tried their best and the service was lovely. They should maybe get some blankets in case someone asks for one as it can get a bit chilly in the evening but overall I would definitely recommend and I will be going back!

Thrilled that Blades -our Putney local favourite - has reopened for takeaway wed-sun! We had delicious calamaretti and minestrone to start, then lasagne and cod in a in melt in the mouth mustard sauce, with some spinach as our main courses. Dessert was a mixed fruit Bavarese - a dessert that looks like a cheesecake but tastes like a mousse. Such a treat to have a proper meal cooked by someone else! Can’t wait for next weekend!

I have been to Blades on a number of occasions now and find it a delight every time. It’s a lovey little Italian restaurant in the heart of Putney, very homely and authentic. The starter menu was a little limited to salads and fish for my liking but the goat cheese was lovely and my partner enjoyed his calamari very much. My main of chicken breast in a mushroom and cream sauce was amazing, highly recommend. My partner was a little disappointed with his sea food linguine as the sauce was a little overpowering to to the seafood. Desserts were also a little disappointing unfortunately.Service was excellent and would also recommend to couples looking for a date night.
