Blacklock Shoreditch in Hackney

Once the industrial area in London decades ago… industrial themes interiors, cheerful professional services and great food. We visited on Sunday and ordered the ALL in One for three Sunday roast. Great and delicious dishes. Highly recommended.

Best steak I had! Amazing service. Must do when you’re in London.

I went in to get the famous cheesecake, pretty late in the evening, I told them I am here for dessert and can take a seat at the bar. the hostess said that they are completely booked, including the bar, even though they had tons of space available. she then sat a walk-in customer right after me, and when I inquired politely, said that all the "current customers are waiting for food" so I should come back in after 40 minutes. I'd have understood if the restaurant was full, but it was very much not, so to discriminate someone based on their order (especially if they're willing to be in and out) feels pretty hurtful and disappointing. [in response to the owners comment the the restaurant was full] there were tables available to reserve when I walked in. I checked online. I understand that ethics are based on context, but not the best idea to refute the actual facts I presented in my review

Saved only by an incredible waiter that ensured that we got service worth of the service charge. I had heard so many great things about Blacklock, and was desperate to try. However it fell beyond short of expectation. Service - Slow. We were given the wrong starters and our wine was poured with the cap left on. We had waited over 20 minutes for our wrong plate to be served Food - Good. For the price, I was hoping for a fresh experience, through the side plates and starters. But I found it lacking. However, the quality of meat is incredible, it’s a shame that the sides let it down so dramatically May be worth mentioning, but the desert on the menu and what was served was completely different. Still enjoyable but not incredible Price - I was pleasantly surprised at the price

Such a wide variety of delicious meat options! We loved all the dishes, especially the lamb chops and chips covered in beef drippings. The service was top-notch as well. Will be returning.

Very friendly staff, speedy service, and tasty :) I’d recommend the sharing platter in 2-3 people- very generous portion! Bathrooms were also super clean x

Went here with a group of coworkers since we're visiting, this place was highly recommended. I had the steak sarnie (medium) and beef dripping chips. Steak was cooked to perfection and the chips were the best I've ever had, perfect puffy texture inside and crunchy outside. Food was reasonably priced and friendly service. Will definitely come back again!

This place has a great formula and it executes perfectly. It has some of the cool Shoreditch vibe without trying too hard but the main reason to come is the excellent steaks. The staff were friendly and helpful, explaining well the different meat cuts and the beef was excellent. A great dinner - it fully delivered on its promise.

Absolute fantastic restaurant. Staff are great friendly and very helpful. The food is fantastic. Good choice of starters and mains. Steak and skinny chops or thick chops. Pork loin, belly pork, lamb chop. Triple cooked chips. The sharing platter is good value for money.

Greeted upon arrival by a member of staff. Taken to our table, all of the staff were so friendly and super attentive, especially when it came to drink and gravy top ups! I applaude the staff - they were a truly wonderful team. We ordered the all in (sharing platter roast) and food took about 20 minutes which was quite good considering the place was rammed! Unfortunately, the food came out warm, not hot at all and so it quickly became disappointing with taste and flavours. The texture of the Yorkshire became hard and chewy. We can say we enjoyed the meat, it was very good, but would have been better served hotter. The gravy had a beautiful depth to it and was the only thing warming out food and plate. The potatoes in the room looked promising with crispy skins however the ones we were served were kinda stodgy and lacked that crispy skin and fluffy centre we thought we had seen on other tables. Cabbage and carrots accompanied the meats. These were nice, again would have been better served hot. The only thing served piping hot, suggesting its freshness was the cauliflower cheese, which came in its own dish. This was lovely and flavourful with four cheese married together. Overall it was nice, however the lack of hot food served was a knife to the heart. It was nice to try, but wouldn’t go back anytime soon.

We have just moved over from Australia and were keen to try a Sunday Roast for the first time. We stumbled upon here, and despite there being limited availability we were provided with seats at the bar. The bar staff - Alex and Darren, were particularly wonderful. They explained the menu in detail, and were kind enough to write us up a list of London recommendations. Some of the best service we have ever had! The food itself was fantastic and lived up to the hype. In particular the gravy was so so good! And we also had some wonderful red wine recommended by the staff which was also incredible. This is a fantastic restaurant/bar with some wonderful people working here. We will be back soon!

Fantastic place for Sunday roast. All in roast, breakfast martini and Apple crumble were all excellent.

You have to like meat to like this place! Food was ok, the best thing is their chips! Superb chips. Rather overpriced for what you get. But as it was a birthday celebration it was worth paying extra. There was no chicken on the menu so if you’re not a meat eater you’re up Shoreditch Creek!

Had my birthday meal and have no complaints whatsoever! Service was immaculate food was outstanding. Thank you so much to marta who looked after our table tonight. Will definitely be returning soon! One of the best meals i have had in london so far.

Great atmosphere and even better steak. Christina (sorry if I butchered your spelling) was so helpful too). Will come back next time we are in London! The gravy (pigs head starter) was insane, as was the actual steak. Amazing.

Just got taken to this place by my partner for my birthday dinner, and have to say it was the best dinner experience I’ve had in London so far - totally made my night! 😊 Our steaks were cooked perfectly to our temp liking (recommend the Blacklock cut - super lean and tender!), the chop sauce was the perfect accompaniment, the little pre-chop bites were all amazing, the cocktails were well-balanced, and the side dishes were delicious. The highlight of the night however was our waitress Marta, who was so friendly and personable with all her recommendations, and she even brought their signature white chocolate cheesecake to our table herself with her warm well wishes. In fact, all the staff were 10/10 with their service throughout the night - it’s no wonder this particular restaurant get gleaming reviews from their patrons. Keep it up Blacklock and 100% will return, thank you!👍

Good supermarket in a central area of ​​London, adequate prices in relation to the standard of living there

Went there for dinner on a Thursday night with a group of friends (booking was at 7:15). Since I arrived slightly later than the others, they had already ordered a drink when I arrived. However, it took at least 10 attempts to get the attention of one of the staff to order my drink when we were literally sat next to the kitchen with staff walking past serving food every few seconds. We eventually ordered the food (three portions of the “all in” and one portion steak with sides) the appetisers for the all in came very quickly which was nice. The mains then took another hour to get to the table… seeing as the all in came with appetiser three of us wasn’t super hungry so the wait was slightly tolerable, but one of our friends had waited that whole time without a single bite of anything so they got very hungry waiting for their food. Most annoying thing is the table next to us had their mains before us despite them sitting down after we ordered the food. When the food did arrive, the beef in the all in was OKAY, the lamb was tasty and the pork looked so dry I didn’t even bother trying as my friends were up to finishing the pork anyway. We also ordered the baby gem lettuce in an attempt to balance out the meat heavy meal, the alleged “barbecued” baby gem was at most warmed up under the heat lamp, and strangely limp, overall not a winner. We ordered cheesecake for dessert, the cheese cake itself was tasty but the sauce that comes with it really doesn’t add to the dish so none of us had any after giving it a brief try. The volume of the music and the location of our table also made it difficult to hold conversations without shouting as well.

What a way to start the night! Fabulous choice of meats and sides (chips fried in beef fat) and quality wine with great and knowledgeable staff to assist. Also great cocktail menu for before dinner, absolutely amazing experience

Arrived in London and saw this was around the corner of my hotel. Walked in for a Sunday Roast for one. Fortunate enough to be able to have a seat at the bar without waiting too long. Exemplary service by Brando and co at the bar. Beef ribs were great. Roast lamb was spot on. But the highlight was definitely the service. Will try and make another trip here before I leave! Will also note that a few around me had dietary restrictions but the team were very proactive in checking on them.

Love blacklock, been to most locations, but this place is one of the best. Service is always top tier and the food is fantastic.

Absolutely terrible customer service here. We reserved a table via email, they messed up and failed to reserve the table, and instead of apologising and trying to make things right, the host tried to make it our fault. Whilst mistakes happen and we would have been understanding, we were shocked that the restaurant turned it on us when the email correspondence clearly showed that we had a booking. We will not be returning - customer service needs serious work.

0/10. Made a booking and they didn’t reserve our table, and somehow made it our fault. The manager did nothing to help. Apparently the food is good but I couldn’t tell you because they gave away our booking.

From start to finish, this meal lived up to the hype. Everything was cooked well and seasoned to perfection. Their fillet steak was very reasonably priced and extremely good quality. Their house sauce was a take on peppercorn sauce and was perfect. I'm not a big pork chop or lamb chop guy, but those were great, too. The beef dripping cooked chips were sensational. Now, let's talk about that white chocolate cheesecake... I could have eaten the whole tray. It was that good. I don't recall ever having a better tasting cheesecake. I'm planning on returning here ASAP. Staff were helpful and friendly too.

Amazing steak, one of the best in London. Place was packed with people and food still arrived all at the same time, service was quick and friendly. The quality of the meat was unreal so juicy and tasty. Melt-in-your-mouth £22 ribeye steak, was better than Hawksmore and Goodsman. Will be back!!!

They were able to accommodate an extra person without prior notice. Got the Sunday roast All in for the table. Superb place. Our waitress, I think her name was Mya from Norwich was also super friendly.

Came for the Sunday roast, did feel we could have had more meat, but the meat on the plate was great (even if not enough), the cauliflower cheese that was recommended was a disaster - not sure why that would be a recommendation, cocktails were good. Would recommend skipping the desserts

Great menu and food. Nice decor and location. Good price for some of the menu items which is refreshing compared to other steak places. However every single member or staff was dead. Must have come across 5-6 staff members. All looked miserable and drained. No pleasentries or even half a smile. Just robotic service. Odd. Compared with Hawksmoor Wood Wharf recently (reviewed on my page) whereby the manager even came over for a chat. . .Maybe they all had some bad news on the day. . .other than that all good.

Amazing! I had the rump steak and it’s the best steak I’ve ever had! My sister had the black lock burger and she loved it! My mom and her mate had sharing platter and it looked amazing!

Don’t like leaving a bad review but we came here for a birthday (3 of us) and were completely neglected by the waitress serving us. She avoided eye contact when we tried to get her attention. When she brought the dessert menus over she just came over, left them on the table without saying anything and was about to walk away. The waiter who came to get our dessert order was lovely but half the time we were just waiting for someone to come to our table. The food was good but service was poor tonight.

One of the best steak dinners we’ve ever had! The waiters were great too so friendly and helpful. Good vibes all round and super generous sizes.

It's noisy and busy which usually puts me off a place (it was Friday night to be fair) but god damn if it wasn't delicious. The lamb ribs especially were fantastic, the steak was cooked perfectly medium, and the sides/sauces complimented it fantastically. Will definitely come again.

I had a fantastic time in Blacklock. I was travelling for work from Ireland and was a solo diner sat at the bar where I had a great evening. The bar servers were very personable and engaged with me for the evening, advising on their favourite dishes from the menu and resolving some confusion with my sauce choices while also getting to know me over the evening. Their cocktail offering was delicious and they seemed to really care that I had a good time in their establishment. If you’re ever in Ireland again, hit me up for a pint Harry!

Just incredible. Never found a Sunday Roast to beat my mums but this is special. Meat was all cooked to perfection. What a treat and great surprise.

Had a late lunch/ early dinner, with an entree, main and two cocktails. Everything was superb, loved their Bloody Mary especially. Staff friendly and helpful. Went in a small group and were lucky to get in as walkins, so do make sure that you make a booking in advance to ensure entry!

Delicious food and great ambience

Absolutely love Blacklock! Went to Blacklock Soho before and really enjoyed the atmosphere, excellent service and delicious food. We decided to try out the Shoreditch branch and again no notes. Beautiful meat (we had the rump), the side dishes are incredibly tasty and the prices are okay.

We had a great time for my sister's 31st birthday. James was a fantastic waiter and really made the service feel extra special, if you come to eat here and get served by James you will be in for a treat. Even though there is a black lock closer to home where I live in canary wharf, because of James excellent service I would make the journey to come here the next time I want to eat at black lock

Almost perfect, but steak is slightly lacking

We had the best time yesterday at this place because of the excellent service, warm people, and amazing steak (Rump cap) recommended by our server. The steak I think was the best I've ever had so far, the Blacklock gravy went very well with it. Absolutely loved our Lemon Drop cocktail as well we had to order for a round two. Our server especially was an absolute delight, she recommended stuff from the menu with full elaborate descriptions and her friendly personality made it so easier for us to communicate as well. We were also celebrating our birthdays there and we got a dessert on the house with a very nice happy birthday singalong from everyone there. I am not a huge fan of white chocolate because of the sweetness but the white chocolate cheesecake was also quite nicely balanced, it wasn't too sweet and the consistency was perfect.

Typical and very well-kept place, excellent food with an excellent choice of meat. The amazing desserts made by them! Very friendly and helpful staff!

If you’re looking for good meat this is a geat restaurant. We got the ‘all in’ where you get the meat and can select sides, we loved all the sides and had a great time here.

Most importantly, the steak was fantastic. All the food was, as was the wine. The service was also excellent - I'm giving 5* despite being given an incorrect side and told we had ordered it. The atmosphere was nice overall but it got pretty loud later in the evening.

I went there last sunday and wolfed down the beat taating roast of my life. We ordered the all-in for 3, which was a mixture of beef, lamb and pork. It was quite a precise amount of food but the plating made it look of epic proportions. Beef was aged for 55 days. i must say the trimmings were absolutely delicious: perhaps the best tasting potatoes and carrots i have had in a while, cooked to perfection. It would have been a bliss with a bit more meat but i do eat a lot.

Best Sunday Roast ever had. Courteous and attentive service. Quality raw materials and excellently executed. Don't miss it!

The food was absolutely incredible but Augustina was the best waitress we’ve ever come across! Augustina talked us through the menu and really cared about the restaurant and its quality. We took her recommendations and ran with them and the food was absolutely incredible. She really made our evening brighter and we will definitely be coming back!

Traveling with my son and we both love a good steak. This restaurant did not disappoint. The filets were spectacular! My son did have to ask them to cook his a bit more (they both were a level below what we asked- son can’t stand under cooked and I love rare ish ) they were so nice about it. Mine was perfect and seasoned so well. Their chips are cooked in the beef fat and wow-delicious! Highly recommend this restaurant.

Me and my friend had really good time here on 5th Aug 2024, I know it is so hard to book the table for Monday cuz there is happy Monday big chops deal. I thought it is gonna be super busy and we don't expect the service being that good by James, he is friendly and kind which we never been treated like that. We had fun time and all the food are good! A valid Sunday Roast in this restaurant of a famous London chain. The beef was really tasty and moist at the right point, while the pork was drier. The Yorkshire puddings and trimmings are good. The potatoes however could have been crispier. The staff was very kind and professional. The service was very quick. We booked in the evening for the next morning without problems, I still recommend booking.

The Sunday roast was everything I hoped for! The waitress even brought me kimchi because I needed some probiotics. Bloody Mary was yummy and strong. Would definitely recommend a reservation.

Such a great place. I came here alone spontaneously while in the area for work, and although they were completely booked up managed to squeeze me in at the end of the bar. It was definitely the best roast I’ve had since I can remember, and there was a great atmosphere. The service and staff that work there were lovely and you could tell they were happy there. Seeing that they make so many of their cocktail ingredients from scratch I tried a few. This Rose Spritz was my favourite! The Summer Negroni was pretty special too. Thanks for making me feel welcome while away from home :)

Very friendly service in a cozy atmosphere. For starters, ricotta was amazing. We had rib eye and sirloin as steak and both were very well cooked. White chocolate cheesecake is a must to try!

Impeccable service, came here for a Sunday roast for all of the goodness of the gravy. Lamb leg was flavorful, can't say the same of the Black Angus sirloin "OG" unfortunately. Potatoes were a little tough on the outside skin but Yorkshire pudding and vegetables are on point.

Fantastic chophouse - highly recommend the All In with a range of different chops and ciabatta bread. On the expensive side but worth the money. Ambience is great.

We celebrated my birthday here with friends and family. The Sunday roast was out of this world! Tender meats, Yorkshire puddings the size of a plate with buckets of the best gravy I've ever had, and of course roast potatoes that were so good we fought for the last one. Lol. Then to top it all was the yummiest and most generous portion of cheese cake ever! We left with very happy and full tummies. Highly recommended.

We had an excellent chop, chips and braised gem lettuce. Delicious. Our waitress was outstanding.

Steak House style taverne / pub. Ambiance très agréable tamisée . Accueil chaleureux et explications de la carte. Spécialité les viandes . On peux choisir la pièce au poids en fonction de ce qui reste sur le tableau noir ou une pièce de viande à prix fixe. Il faudra rajouter l’accompagnement au choix et la sauce ( le supplément est un peu limite ça pourrait être inclus ). Je recommande en couple ou entre amis

We had Sunday roast and the food and drinks were fantastic. Unfortunately we got stuck with the one waitress that seemed to be having a bad night. Didn't catch her name because she didn't say much to us. She had pinkish/orangish straight short hair and was wearing a short black shirt that showed her belly. She didn't smile, didn't greet us, didn't check on us, and acted as though her life was miserable while visiting our table. The host that sat us was very nice, and the people that brought us the food were nice. I see on other reviews that the service was great, and I don't doubt that. I guess we just got stuck with the one bad apple. It's unfortunate, but it happens.

Great looking restaurant and quality meat options. I am personally a big fan of rump and they had a few variations for under 20£. I did back to back steaks (I am a tourist on holiday) and beer/wine. Everything was great, the staff were friendly, and it was overall a nice change from the typical steakhouses. This is a great location too - right near all the Shoreditch nightlife. Blacklock Gravy is legendary - must get.

Nice cocktails ( the raspberry one was especially refreshing) the steak was good. Service was prompt. I can see why this place is so famous 😁 The cheesecake was yummy, not too sweet and enough for two or even three people.

Amazing food, incredible service, Agus was amazing and sat down at the table and talked us through the menu and then gave us a meal that was incredible.

A glorified Harvesters with mean-spirited service. Although not overly expensive, the portion size is somewhere between starter and mains size. I’m not a big eater, so it was fine for me, but would recommend paying more and going to a Hawksmore for a more honest helping of food. The quality of the food was fine - nothing special. What really left a bad taste was the mean-spirited service. We weren’t allowed to add an extra chair to our table to accommodate an unexpected guest. I have been a restaurateur for over 10 years and have had many disagreements with customers, but never over something so unnecessary and petty. We were told that it would interfere with the pathway to the kitchen, which was nonsense as the extra chair didn’t need to go on that side of the table. So I can only assume that the manager and waiter just didn’t feel like being accommodating.
