We enjoyed a lovely meal at Black Spot on Saturday. We shared garlic bread to start and my husband and son chose fennel sausage pizzas and I opted for the mushroom pizza. The sourdough is beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal, washed down with flavoured cider and draught beer in literally freezing cold glasses! Thanks for an amazing experience.

Went to Black Spot for tea on Friday 7 June and food, atmosphere, drinks and service were great as always. The Pizza Bread 2.0 with lemon and rosemary is a particular standout but the pizzas, we shared the salami and lamb, and the tiramisu were all fab too. James is a great host and we are looking forward to going back again.

I have never left a negative review for an eatery. However, memories of my experience here 6 months ago still really upsets me, which is why I finally decided to leave a review. I came here after an awful day attending a family funeral. I was solo parenting my newborn and 2 year old as my husband got shipped off abroad for a work emergency. My card wasn't working, and in the daze of the funeral I forgot to bring a spare. I apologised and explained about the awful day we were having, and offered to leave my personal details and return the next day to pay. Unfortunately, I was then treated with suspicion and made to feel like a criminal and was demanded to show proof of identity like a passport. I was in tears in front of other customers and my children. It was only after my daughter started crying that we were allowed to leave. When I returned the next day, I was told that they thought I was scamming them (for1 pizza and 1 non alcoholic beer). It saddens me that our society has lost compassion and trust, and we treat each other with suspicion instead of sympathy in these situations.

Our favourite pizza. Always ready within 30 min, amazing ingredients and flavours. Cocktails to match - James does everything to the best flavour. I'm working my way through the monthly specials :)

Even when its quiet there is always a good atmosphere, great food and friendly service from James every time. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for pizza locally!

Firstly the food here is great and probably the best pizza we've had since visiting Naples last summer. I also really dislike badmouthing local businesses but honestly I'm still shocked at a comment I received yesterday. Visited for Valentine's Day and celebratory meal with my other half, unfortunately the server (and owner?) decided we'd much prefer to spend half the time speaking with him. He repeatedly walked over, interrupted, made constant jokes, sarcastic and strange comments and was extremely overly-familiar. He asked my partner why he wasn't drinking alcohol - which is none of anyone's business and the answer could be any number of sensitive reasons. He interrupted us at one point to tell me to stop dancing to the music which was a joke but... a weird one. I asked for food to boxed up and he called it the 'box of shame'. The thing which solidified why we won't be returning (and I'm honestly still so stunned by) is when paying for the bill he asked 'who's the unlucky one paying', and I said its from our joint account so its split. He then said directly to me "ah thats good for you then, you won't need to put out tonight". How bizarre to speak to a female customer about her sex life. I'm no prude but it was completely misjudged and idiotic. Won't be returning. Only go if you like misogyny as a pizza topping.

We’ve been meaning to go here for ages and when we finally did it didn’t disappoint. The food is amazing, with some really interesting (and delicious!) variations such as the Asian lamb to go with the usual classics. Add to that incredible cocktail, great service and some good banter with the staff and it shows why it’s got the reviews it has. Impossible to fault really

Great little neighbourhood restaurant with a real cocktail bar feel .. the lighting and dark wood enhance the atmosphere ! James made us feel very welcome and the food and service was excellent.. we ended up leaving with an additional take-away for our friends who walked past and wanted to try the food… extensive cocktail menu and we really enjoyed the Blue Ribbon beer 🍺… will be giving the cocktails a try next time we visit!

Have visited Black Spot several times now and never fail to have a brilliant time there. The food is incredible, gorgeous soft base, fresh pizza. The cocktails are really quality and there's an impressive range of them on the menu for such a small place. It's cosy and stylish in there - I brought a large group to the restaurant for a birthday get together and it was just ideal. I even got a special birthday surprise on the house - they go the extra mile! Cherry on the cake there is the service from owner, James, who enjoys charming his guests with his good humour. We feel lucky to have this gem on our little Heaton Mersey high street and 100% recommend, it's the kind of place we'd happily travel to visit. Thanks very much, see you again soon!

New to the area and have already been twice! Great atmosphere, lovely cocktails and tasty pizza. Would recommend the Pizza Bread 2.0 which is simple but delicious.

Enjoyed the meal. Only went as had been told it had vegan options, even though that's not clear on the menu. I found the menu and ordering stressful as you have to work it all out yourself. We (2 vegans) were told at the restaurant that some things can be made vegan, but we need to work out the menu and what swaps we want. There's option to pay for vegan cheese and add veggie toppings but no list of what they are, he told us we had to read all the other pizzas to see what they had and then add them onto a pizza. Would be nice to not have to work when going out for a meal, it isn't somewhere I'd take a group of vegan friends. Just a few purpose vegan options, a list of veggies that can be added. Misleading that the website says 50% of the menu can be vegan, most pizza have meat on. Took away from the experience of going out for a meal together. What we had was nice, would recommend the olives and rosemary bread starter.

By far our favourite pizza place. Lovely service and phenomenal pizza. Love the Rosemary Garlic Bread, Salami pizza with Hot Honey and the Pineapple sorbet (unbelievably good). The beer comes in frosted glasses and the cocktails/mocktails are always amazing. They do an early deal too, which is a complete bargain! We are lucky enough to live local. But worth a drive.

We had a small mix up about the reservation date a couple days prior which could be why he treated us so coldly and made uncomfortable 'jokes', or it could be due to the fact that I, along with one of my sisters, wear a headscarf. Regardless, we felt really uncomfortable due to his cold demeaner and really unfunny comments. A family came in not long after us and it was almost laughable how different he treated them, totally relaxed and welcoming. We were really close to leaving but my niece was hungry and cranky. Definitely won't be going back though. I don't appreciate seeing my family treated like that, especially when we have a baby present. Such an uncomfortable experience.

We were made to feel welcome from moment we arrived, great pizza, great cocktails and great staff. The festive pizza special should be a mainstay, by far the best pizza I’ve had in a long time. Also worth staying late for the late night happy hour, the chocolate orange espresso martini is unreal, a highlight from the many great cocktails we had! Will be booking again shortly. Cheers.

The best pizza in Manchester/Stockport and probably anywhere! We get take out a lot but this time we ate in. The food was amazing as it always is and James is really friendly and funny. We will be loyal customers forever!

Decided to venture out of the city centre and was not disappointed. We had the Christmas special and the jerk chicken pizza with the burrata starter + a few cocktails and all of it blew us away. Top quality food and service with a 10/10 dinks menu, will be returning!

Napolitan pizza??? What a insult!!! Gummy dough, super salty, no origano, no oil, disgusting blah. We also order buffalo mozzarella and they bring a normal mozzarella? I don't know why the other people leave a so amazing review about this place. Ah one more thing, very noisy place we struggling a lot talking because of the loud music and a lot of drunk people shouting and laughing make this place a mess. I don't expect a museum but this is too much.

Decided to pay this place a visit after spotting it a few times on my walks. Great and quick service, but what really impressed me was the food. We got the special, a butter chicken one, and the lamb one: the toppings were super tasty and the base was good. The cocktails were also really nice and it's a shame I couldn't stay longer to try some more. Definitely a good find!

Following a recommendation we visited. Black Spot Pizza with my in laws and youngest (aged 8). The welcome was really warm and we had a quick drink before being shown to our table. Service was prompt and friendly and the menu was perfect for us....

Came here with some friends for dinner and we had an great time. Pizzas were delicious, loads of different flavours, and the cocktail menu was second to none - really fun addition to our meal. Near Neapolitan style Pizza, with a more western style dough. Toppings are deli quality, with a great craft beer selection. Drinks were served in pre-chilled glass handle bar glasses which was a really nice touch. Definitely coming back.

Service was exceedingly good, the pizza less so (and the garlic bread was overly salty). Each pizza arrived with a very soggy undercarriage, resulting in total "tip-sag", a strange mouthfeel and an overall feeling of stodginess. Yes, Neapolitan pizza traditionally does sag, but they usually do not have as many toppings that end up steaming the dough. Lovely atmosphere, though!

Great place - went there a few months ago on the way to the cinema, messed up our timings and they were super helpful getting us the food really quickly. They had a really good looking wine list and also a properly interesting whisky list, need to go back and sample it properly!
