Black Horse in Ashford

Enjoyed an excellent Italian lunch at this lovely, out of the way pub. Great choice of meals, and a wonderful selection of tasty desserts. The courses were of a good size and the service was friendly and unrushed. Good value for money, abd would definitely return if in the area again.

What a marvellous hidden gem! Called for dinner last night (20th) and what an experience. Superb food, great atmosphere. The two hosts (sisters Sara & Lisa) were excellent hosts: knowledgeable, chatty and welcoming. An absolute joy, and a definite "must return"! Already looking forward to it.

We had an amazing dinner experience on a Saturday evening at Black Horse. The food was absolutely delicious, and we were treated like valued guests from the moment we arrived. Our little one especially loved playing in the back garden after enjoying some tasty lasagna. A delightful evening for the whole family!

Absolutely outstanding italian food with the warmest welcome. We phoned at 1930 on Sunday 21st July 2024 and asked if they were still serving food they asked for how many and what time we could make it For I said I can get there by 8 they sad normally we finish food at 7.30 but we will keep the kitchen open I did not expect the quality of the food to be so good or the welcome to be so warm at that time on a Sunday. I would recommend this beautiful pub wit fantastic food and super excellent staff. They do not normally allow dogs inside but made an allowance for us but the garden area has a covered area and is fantastic and dogs are welcome in this area. Thank you all at the black horse for your amazing set up

Great Italian Restaurant in Kent. Food was excellent, service is good and location is very quiet. Huge food portion aswell. Been here for a few times.

Stopped over night prior to using Le Shuttle. Great little location for a stop over if travelling with a camper. Great communication and lovely staff on arrival. Convenient location to get to departure in about 10 mins. With a visit! If having food it is absolutely lovely but it can be a bit pricey.

Nice location. Nice to sit outside and listen to nature. Menu was all Italian. Would prefer a varied menu with tradional pub fayre as well as Italian. Service though was good but pub was not busy. If you like Italian and a quiet pub in a natural environment then look no further. Price of drink a bit more than other pubs. Glass of white wine (not large) and a pint if pepsi £11.

Had a scrumptious Sunday roast with all the trimmings. Its a carvery so you can choose your favourite meat and veg. The dessert trolley is just wow, so much to choose from. Great friendly staff, very polite and respectful.

We stumbled upon The Black Horse whilst looking for a last minute dinner on Bank Holiday Monday after finding most places shut or not serving food. We were travelling with 2 over tired children and couldn’t have hoped for a better spot. The staff were really welcoming and friendly, the service quick and the food delicious. The lady looking after us went above and beyond to make sure 2 tired parents had as relaxing a meal as possible – from dragging over an extra table to give us some more space (our son has very grabby hands!); treating my daughter like a princess because it was her birthday; decanting some of the scrummy lasagne into a smaller and cooler dish so that our son didn’t get burnt; and when we realised we weren’t going to be able to stay for pudding (the kids were ridiculously over tired at this point) and expressed our regret at not being able to sample the pudding menu offering us a takeaway – I have just enjoyed my rhubarb crumble at home! There was also a lovely little deli by the front door. Our only regret was not getting to stay for longer, hopefully we can come back one day soon!

This place is a real gem. The carvery was amazing and what can you say about the desert trolly apart from WOW! Will definitely be back if I’m ever in the area.

What a wonderful Sunday lunch. The staff were outstanding and the food was super and excellent value for money. The sweet trolley is divine. We can’t recommend The Black Horse highly enough. We will definitely return soon.

Really was looking forward to going back here after a hiatus of many years. Felt very welcome when we arrived. It was not at all busy. We booked in for the Sunday carvery and opted for the 3 meat choice. When we went to get our food it was just such a let down. Stingy with the meat and we were not able to help ourselves to the veg selection, it had to be served to us. Talk about portion control!! The cauliflower ‘cheese’ should have been reported to the trading standard authorities, for being described as having cheese, when it was distinctly lacking in any cheese flavour. Roast potatoes were new potatoes and they were rock hard. The desserts were lacking in choice. Won’t be back. Sorry Black Horse, you need to check out what a real carvery is.

We only stopped off at the Black Horse for a few drinks and ended up having a great three course, authentic Italian meal! Sitting outside in the late summer sunshine, we decided to have the Beefheart tomatoes and Buratta from the Starter list just to nibble on with our drinks. The tomatoes were packed full of juice and flavour, never have I tasted tomatoes this good before in this country, when asked Madam where they came from, she proudly told us that they were grown on the premises, you can't beat homegrown produce!!.. After that, we moved inside and ordered mains, Squid ink linguine with King prawns, and a very filling spinach and three cheese ricotta... Accompanied with a bottle of house white , we were so satisfied with everything we picked, a perfect impromptu meal👌.. Then, to finish off, the 'Trolley of Temptation' came up, and my eyes bulged with the choices on offer, we chose the Tiramasso, and the Ameretto infused panettone. Sooo good!! 😘.. This place is a real must visit in the middle of nowhere, and Madam really made our meal a pleasure 🙏 (and thank you for the two little gifts you sent us home with) Graci!!

Discovered this little gem accidentally, during a cycling session around Ashford country side…what a great surprise! Plenty of choices in terms of beer and wine, great food and super friendly staff. A tranquil location with an Italian vibe, large garden at the back with a playing area for children. Will definitely return!

Amazing place hidden in the countryside, very welcoming staff and delicious food. A variety of local products available for sale and included in the menu,authentic Italian cuisine and many many delicious food choices… and deserts 🤤 A hidden gem that we are happy we found and will definitely return again and again. Well done to the owners for creating such an amazing place.

Had an exceptional meal here. The pub itself is a fabulous building. But the food was lovely and you couldn't ask for better service. Would highly recommend.

Stopped for lunch today, lovely warm welcome & quiet country location. Food is Italian & very tasty, nice to see different things on the menu & a very knowledgeable host. The cheeseboard especially was delicious. Also liked the fact they sell local grown produce & locally made items. Lots of the things on the menu we want to try so will definitely return!

Fabulous dinner after a long drive and kind enough to allow up to stay in the car park overnight in our motorhome

Happy to say the owners were very accommodating, we were staying on their little campsite prior to taking "Le Shuttle" the following day. The owners will be the first to admit, the place is off the beaten track, if you have a large unit, this place is not for you. We had a couple of interesting moments with oncoming traffic and passing places! If you have one of the new 2.5m wide caravans, this is not for you...

Went for a Sunday roast . The service was exceptional, the food excellent (loved the dessert trolley!), and the building itself is a charming country pub down a country lane. I'm a veggie and was very well looked after, but my family had a choice of every kind of roast meat (on the menu you can choose between 3 kinds of meat or 5) and everyone's plate was piled high. You get the feeling it is a real labour of love for the family that run it. The place was completely full, which says it all. Very popular!

Excellent food, fantastic service and staff. A hidden gem near Ashford. Had salmon linguine and venison lasagne which I would highly recommend. Lovely Italian food. We'll be back! There's a little garden out the back and a small kids play area. Quiet location and loads of parking.

What a find! This place does a lovely Sunday carvery, a beautiful sweet trolley of deserts and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. Only downside is they are hard to find online - need a proper website which allows you to book a table and need a presence on Facebook etc with an easy way to book. Took a while to find a phone number that worked as it looks like there are old ownership pages still in existence. Worth finding the phone number though as you’ll love the place once you’re booked in.

Absolutely Moreish, we enjoyed the Sunday Carvery, some starters and deserts. We had proper 🇮🇹 Italian food in the middle of Kent. The staff are all very kind. With stunning views of the country side.

The most welcoming pub ever and delicious food! I visited with my partner on a Saturday and despite arriving well before the kitchen opened, the chef agreed to make us a meal (even if they hadn’t, my pub experience would have still been great thanks to the friendly staff and good drink selection). The view is also gorgeous out over the countryside and the food was delicious. Made us feel so at home and would love to return to try out one of the Italian nights / deli pop up.

Ordered cod and chips from lunch menu wasn’t expecting nothing special but icelands would have produced something more tastier. Absolute vile. And the steak which didn’t look or taste in the slightest bit fresh should be pink inside not a horrible rotten colour. very over priced for cheap looking and tasting food.

Went for Sunday carvery as I’d seen positive reviews and was not disappointed. Very much a ‘home cooked’ style about the main course which is what I was after, and the dessert trolley was impossible to ignore. Their website needs updating as the Sunday roast is no longer £8.95 but it’s still great value.

Lovely quiet spot to stop over in the camper before heading to the Channel tunnel which is only 6 miles away.

Very disappointing. We found the service very slow and the Carvery very poor. The pork was tough, the vegetables either frozen or overcooked. Sadly we will not be returning. Such a pity as when we visited in July the food was much better. I really thought we had found our pub for a good Sunday lunch. Not to be ☹️ Our son who is vegetarian wasn’t given much choice. And the aubergine and Parmesan was very oily and overcooked.

Excellent food and very friendly service at phenomenal prices. The prices are so good that we assumed the EOTHO offer had been preapplied so when we got another discount at the end it was amazing! The portions are brilliant and leave just enough room for a dessert from the very excellent selection, I think the Black Horse does the best puddings around.

Very long wait for food, food was poor

Oh dear. Not a good experience at all. Once sat at our table, was told they have no pizza or garlic bread today. This left a very limited menu. Table was booked for 12.30 .... food arrive at 14.00. The place was very quiet so god only knows how long you would wait on a weekend. Ordered seasonal veg which was roasted potatoes, frozen carrots and baked cauliflower cheese... not really seasonal. Would not normally mind waiting 1hour 30mins for food .... but this food was not good at all and no "sorry for the delay" After poor mains did not want to risk pudding. Even more worrying is the idea of the restaurant being "COVID-19 safe" .... staff wore only face shields, took these off with their hands ... failed to wash or sanatise their hands before handling other customers cutlery , glasses and plates. Would have been safer not to use visors at all. We then waited over 30mins for the bill. Eventually I asked at the bar and was told it was "complicated" to write a bill. Such a shame as we are locals and wanted to support local places.... but not here again.
