Found this place wandering Brentford, it had the best meals and best beers we’ve had since arriving in England Eleven out of Ten Mine hist and staff were excellent

Really cracking pub. We had a Sunday Roast here and that was honestly the best Roast I have had out. Super friendly staff and amazing beer selection. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely pub with an extensive drinks list

This is a local brentford boozer that deserves its 4 star plus rating. Great list of brews on tap, wines by glass or bottle. Staff are fantastic, food is basic but well thought out and very tasty. Gets extremely busy on match days!

I was only there for the beer so did not eat. Judging by the happy faces the grub was good. Top service and brilliant booze, my idea of heaven 👍🍻😊

The best pub in Brentford without a doubt. I loved that they offer a wide selection of craft beers and wines. Their food options are great; we tried the burger and the ribs, both of which were delicious. I had a wonderful time there and will definitely be returning soon!

Great food, great service and the sunday roast is best for miles

Popped in for a pint and a bite to eat with my wife last night, friendly locals, Loads of great beers to choose from the blackboard (with prices clearly displayed), which is refreshing. Overall a canny night out in Brentford

Good range of beers and a lively environment. Quick service too, despite the crowds.

Liked the food so much we decided to return the next day. Everything was great, the atmosphere, the service and the drinks too! Great selection of beers. I tried a cider and a pale ale which I both enjoyed. I would definitely recommend the loaded fries with greens on the side. Apparently the ribs were delicious too but I’m a vegetarian so unfortunately I could not try them. This place is a 10/10!!! Please go

Update to review (Feb 24) - had a super night once again. Taking parents aged 80 who loved the liveliness, bustle, and delicious food and beer choices. The staff were so accommodating and kind. You must visit this fabulous pub! Well done The Black Dog! We just went back - post lockdown. The below still stands and they’ve made it even better with a new garden layout. The Black Dog’s great touch as always. Superb staff too. Try those ribs!! Best pub in west London? Definitely highest on my list. Beer selection is second to none. Food is the same. Then the staff complete this very special boozer.

Salt beef sandwich was my favorite. It reminded me if the rubens I loved on the east coast. Tonight it was not as good. The meat was not great. Not enough kraut. My kids had the burger. Patty overcooked. Hoping its just an off night.

Down a side street, in an area not that pretty, lovely surprise great choice of Ales, food amazing.

Great pub with amazing Sunday roast. Was a busy pub luckily there was a table available which was reserved but staff really helpful and told us to take our time as the table reservation was cancelled. Highly recommend

An unexpected surprise, tucked away down a side street in Brentford this is a proper pub but with a really interesting menu with some unusual options , good beer, open fires , dog friendly. We ordered the Szechuan ribs which were really nicely spiced and couple of steaks which turned out to be excellent, with crunchy chips. Nothing boil in the bag about this place, It felt like food prepared with a passion, a great find and deservedly busy.

Possibly the best pub in/around Brentford. Dog friendly, staff were friendly and helpful. Most importantly the food was delicious. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good local pub. Chicken skewers and Pork belly were excellent, chicken wings were good.

Delicious food, new desserts each week and such a cozy atmosphere, especially during the winter with the log fire going!

Firstly service was outstanding, staff are efficient , polite and fun. Food was a bit dissapointing. The beef in the sunday roast was not even warm and did have quite some fat. The yorkshire pudding spuds and veg were outstanding. My friend was dissapointed with his burger. I need to come back and try the lamb next time as it looked better than the beef from what i saw.

If you are looking for a chilled atmosphere, look no further than The Black Dog. The staff are lovely and very helpful. Serves the best ales and the beers are so good. The food is superb and I'm sad that I will not have that porkbelly dish for a while, but I will be back count on that.

Had a lovely drink at the bar then got the apple crumble cheesecake to take away this Sunday. Bloody delish! We’ll definitely be coming back.

Excellent roast lunch, big portions and more special than the standard roasts. Make sure you reserve your roast (and dessert!) if you are booking for the 4pm slot.

Amazing place in that lovely neighbourhood. I ate chicken wings, which were some of the best I've had. Plus the smiling and friendly staff, makes this atmospheric place we will definitely return to.

A table for one on Sunday, I had such a lovely time. A beautiful lamb roast with pomegranate and thyme gravy, and a copious selection of perfectly cooked vegetables. Beer outstanding, a superb pub.

Yes, I went back again. Got advised about a beer that I thought there was a problem with, but I was wrong and the the beer was what it should be. Blimey, we never know enough of what we think we do, but, the reason I go back again, is because it is a proper pub, a local for some, a place of reflection, comfortability, community, relaxation and a new experience for the others...

A rare gem, the food, atmosphere and beer are great. Tip:treat the menu like pinxos / tapas and order a couple of dishes for a filling main. The dishes are so well priced it remains excellent value and very, very tasty.

What a fantastic local pub. They do an excellent Sunday roast and will reserve your dish of choice if you book in advance. We also loved the "nibbles" section of the menu with an insane amount of high quality tinned fish options (and I don't even tend to like tinned fish but I enjoyed this). Great beer selection and some very decent wines too. Staff were all really friendly and were happy to talk through the food and drinks menu, with tasters of the beers on request. We will be returning.

Nice pub and the beers were good. The burger patty was cold in the middle so sent it back. Staff were good about it though.

Not hard to see why this place has such a high Review rating - some deliciously enticing menu options along with a great selection of ales, reasonably priced and with a great ambience The Black Dog was a real 'find' that didn't disappoint. Staff very helpful and friendly too, I hope one day to return and try some more of your creative dishes!

Pubs do not come better than this. The beer options are second to none, the food is exceptional and the staff are friendly, welcoming and approachable. Everyone should have a local like this. It’s a pub, taproom and restaurant rolled into one.

I have been here a few times this evening was the first time to eat though, and the last! The chicken schnitzel had a tomato salsa type of topping with cheese all over the chicken! Honestly I felt quite sick after the meal and expressed this to the waiter. No exchange or compensation of any kind was offered and the guy honestly just seemed pleased I’d paid for it! Sad, because I genuinely had been unable to finish the meal too. Very disappointing guys, I’d liked going there a few times the last couple of weeks and had hoped I’d enjoy their food, which although recommended to me by one person, was inedible.

I booked this place to go with the team for dinner after work. It was very easy to book. I have received prompt confirmation via email. On arrival the table was ready and we were greeted. The food was very nice and it is a nice environment for relaxed catch up. We had a great time and I recommend this place.

Did not have food. Good choice cask beers. Mine was end of barrel, happily replaced and gave rest of table free beer to compensate. Great little find

Fantastic lazy Sunday afternoon meal here. Beer selection very out there if thats your thing (I just wanted a pint of bitter) but the food and a good bottle of helles more than compensated. Tinned fish selection a great idea that im amazed more places don't do. Mains were a thing of absolute beauty. Schnitzel must have been a dinosaur in its previous life. Absolutely delicious and i didn't eat till lunch the day after once finished. A superb independent establishment that deserves your patronage over the identikit chains.

Nice pub, good meals and service. Nice atmosphere with outside and inside dining options. Friendly staff. Within our group through miscommunication a meal wasn’t ordered, but the way the pub rectified the situation was fantastic. Hats off to them turning a negative into a positive, there are a few establishments that can learn about how to treat customers from The Black Dog.

Delightful neighbourhood pub. Visiting from Oz for the tennis and stumbled onto the Black Dog. Reminded us so much of a Fitzroy pub. Just a great friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

Maybe the best pub I've ever been to, and that's saying something! AMAZING food, incredible selection on draft, a wonderful beer garden, and some of the nicest and most knowledgeable staff I've seen behind a bar.

Hands down one of the best pubs out there. Great food, amazing selection of beers and ciders, fabulous food and friendly staff. In this age of pubs run by large breweries it's nice to find an independent pub run with love.

Great selection of beers and the bar staff was super friendly and helpful. Very knowledgeable about the beers on tap and helped make a choice. The food is also great and there were a lot of choices depending on what you're in the mood for. There is a nice garden for sitting outside and there is covered seating if you want to be out of the sun or the rain.

I made a reservation at The Black Dog for my girlfriend's birthday because she had a craving for a Sunday roast, and several of our friends highly recommended the place. The pub has a charming ambiance, with its brickwork and wooden interior, and it even boasts a lovely garden. They offer an impressive selection of beers and ciders as well. Unfortunately, when it came to book a table for our meal, I was given limited time slots to choose from: 12:00, 14:00, or 16:00. It was clear that they were focused on maximizing their revenue, as they only allowed us a two-hour window. This practice really irritated me because I dislike feeling rushed when I go out to eat, especially in a pub setting. When our food arrived, I have to admit, I didn't understand what all the hype was about. My girlfriend's roast beef was overcooked, and so was my burger. But what truly disappointed me was when she asked for extra gravy for her roast and was informed that there would be an additional charge of £1.50! I couldn't believe it. Had we known, we would have brought our own OXO cube and asked for a cup of hot water. This experience not only put us off from returning to The Black Dog, but we also shared our disappointment with friends who were considering trying it for the first time. Needless to say, they were shocked and have decided to avoid the place as well. This situation serves as a reminder of the power of word-of-mouth. It can be quite costly for a business, as in this case, The Black Dog lost not only our potential repeat visits but also potential customers we could have recommended, all due to their pursuit of greed.

Great place! Visited before watching Brentford v Newcastle United. Decent choice of real ales. Very friendly staff and locals. Roughly a 10-15 minute walk to the Brentford FC stadium.
