4th time I've been and the food is always on point. The steak pie is yummy and the fish was tasty with homemade chips can't get better than that. Only problem is there's too much food lol but definitely a great place to eat and drink

Haven’t tried the food but have been told it’s good visited here on several Saturdays some good bands and some bad but every one has a type however when the band has a break your expected to sit in silence if I wanted to hear the sound of my own voice I would have stayed at home

Black Bull is always good food warm and pfriendly staff. Never had a bad meal there.

Didn't eat here but the service and atmosphere was on spot. Watched a few football ⚽️ games and had some drinks. Great time.

Decent enough boozer, but no cask ale just a sea of the big red T. Bottled Newcastle Brown Ale is an ok substitute.

Great local pub, they do food, karaoke and bands

We took our 95 year old mum/gran for lunch. She is wheelchair bound and has very little appetite but still enjoys getting out of the nearby care home. The staff could not have been more accommodating and helpful. The food is traditional pub grub but very nice, well presented and very reasonably priced. The pub/ restaurant was clean, tidy and nicely decorated. Will definitely be back.

Popped in for a drink, very quiet (we were in the lounge area) very clean & inviting,outside are is lovely, staff very friendly, music playing which was good & helped break the empty silence.

Busy place, big portions, tasty food and good options. Very reasonably priced too. Service was friendly and the outdoor area looks good for drinks on a day with better weather. We’ll definitely be back.

Had afternoon tea today for my 70th birthday (birthday treat from daughters), was absolutely AMAZIING, wonderful food, FANTASTIC staff and great atmosphere. Popped in for Sunday Dinner after a walk around Figgate Park with our dog. Dogs welcome in their own area & had a two course / three course dinner each. The Sunday Beef Roast was really tasty & reasonably priced.

Lovely food but need to sort out children's menu. Half portions of adult food doesn't work. Especially when they send it out with salad!

First visit, live band. They were brilliant! A good time was had by all!

I have only been in the pub twice and can honestly say it is one of the friendliness pubs I have been in and I have been in loads the girl who served us second time in was absolutely amazing at her job we will definitely be going back have recommended to lots of friends look forward to our next visit

Had Christmas Dinner here as a works night out and the food and the service were excellent. They brought the big screen down just so we could watch the football and poured coffee even though they already cleaned the coffee machine. Couldn't have asked for more.

Staff friendly, had the monday pensioners two courses. Starter was lovely. Main had to be returned as just tepid and hubbies not correct item. Hubbies came back correct mine took ages. Wrong order not kitchen fault but staff member taking order. Meat tasty but some very chuck. Over portion sizes were great

What can we say first day of new meals and we weren’t disappointed would highly recommend food was delicious and large portions we were a party of 5 including a child and changed our minds a couple of times and nothing was too much trouble we will definitely be back

Big pub with open spacious bars, Nice sized beer garden. Does food but not evenings. Pretty good bar prices and the staff were nice.

Great staff, well priced, friendly locals, live music at weekends, live sport. The band were excellent. Only bad point was 2 people wearing backpacks dancing around, not caring that their packs were hitting other people. One guy lost his entire tray of drinks (4 pints and several nips) that went all over myself and 3 other people almost causing a fight. No warning given to the 2 wearing backpacks, doorman seemed uninterested.

Food was over priced and not the best!

Had lunch in Black Bull today with my mum. We were the only people in the lounge and that should have been warning enough. ! Baked potato came with very little filling and hardly any butter and was stone cold, I sent it back and it came back out a little bit warmer. Mum ordered brie and cranberry toastier, no cranberry available do it was brie and apple and plum chutney which looked like a wet soggy mess. So disappointing. Plus some guy was swearing in the bar and we could hear it all. Why is it so difficult to get a simple lunch that I could have made myself 10 times better? Won’t go back.

Nice place to have a drink .Close to the town centre and the bus services.

The bar staff thought it would be fun to have a competition to see who could smash beer bottles the loudest.

The Black Bull is what I'd call a boozer. It's an old style pub with friendly locals who are welcoming. Shame I can't say the same about the staff. It doesn't have a particularly great range of beers but myself and my friends settled down with pints of Guinness for a bit of chat and banter. Unfortunately our conversation was constantly interupted by staff members throwing beer bottles into a large container. They were basically having a competition to see who could be first to smash a beer bottle and throwing them as hard as they could. This is really not what I want on a night out. A few of the locals complained but the staff continued with their little game. They certainly managed to spoil my pint and I told a barmaid so on leaving. Her reply was that it wasn't her. I don't live in the area any longer but when I return home for a visit, the Black Bull will not be on my list of "must visit."

Dog friendly. Beer good. Food gorgeous. Bar staff excellent and attentive. Only quibble was not enough veggie options for someone who doesn't like cheese. BTW Pauline is the Mrs, but this is my account 😄

Probably the worst pub in Scotland. The barman Andrew was the rudest man I have encountered in the industry. Other younger locals were in and experienced a similar attitude.

Family went for lunch Soup vegetable more like tomato struggle to get butter etc for bread. Atmosphere not good The fish was ok but could be better for being fresh no option of breadcrumbs The rost i take it is fresh funny cut to neat cut bit tough not impressed will not have roast again if ever go back had ask for to mant things as well Should be a gold mine and better food would be packed Finally 3 staff smokeing in garden not good to see 1 never washed hands do not know about other 2 Used to love going hear for meal not now So much potential too

Just had lunch at the black bull with a friend, the food is top class, lovely presentation, proper chunky chips which were cooked to perfection. The staff are lovely, very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be back.

Disgusting... arrived with my partner for a table, was asked where our masks where... said my partner had his mask but i was exempt for health reasons... barmaid asked where my lanyard was- said i didnt have one... was told by the barmaid "thats is the law!!" Refused service... no its NOT the law for me to display my disabilities to the world... and, trying to support local business after lockdown... glad you have soooo many customers that you can turn people away... hope your staff recieve proper training

This is a great pub,handy if shopping in local stores,bar and lounge fantastic,plenty sports and friendly locals with lovely meals and beer garden.👍

Always a good reception at the Black Bull

The food and service are excellent and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. The portions are pretty generous and the menu has good choices. So why not 5 stars? Because the owners will only accept payment in cash. This is a pity and somewhat self-defeating as it means that people are less likely to eat here spontaneously as well as being out of line with current practice

Nice food, good service good prices. Reasonable variety on the menu. Only one gripe.... no steak. Nice atmosphere we visit here often and mostly it is a very pleasant experience.
