Meal was OK. Serving staff very pleasant but service was very slow. It was about a 40 minute wait for starters. Mains OK but nothing special.

This is a nice restaurant. I went here while visiting Birmingham and was satisfied with my experience. I walked into here and was seated at a table on their lower level. I ordered the bread starter, which is a singular piece of bread. This bread was quite good. I then ordered the rotisserie chicken, which was delectable. It was a large piece of chicken that was well oiled and seasoned. It came with a side of pommes frites, which were also good. Unfortunately, I couldn’t finish it because I was too full from the bread. After finishing my meal I left, satisfied with my experience. I gave this restaurant five stars because it has amazing rotisserie chicken and bread, as well as good pommes frites.

Lovely French bistro in the heart of Birmingham. The food was amazing as was the service. The drinks were not bad either. Highly recommend it for a meal.

One of the first places I went to in the UK and one of the creamiest desserts I tried. Definitely recommend it. The coffee was also tasty in this combo, the view from the outdoor terrace is nice and I suggest you to try it on a sunny day.

My husband and I were late to our reservation but Bristol Pierre happily accommodated us. We both had the calamari, sea bass fillet and crème brûlée. The meals were delicious, filling and full of flavour. The lovely gentlemen that served us were very friendly and the atmosphere was intimate. We’d definitely recommend this restaurant and we’ll be visiting again.

Dined here with four family members on 10.03.2024 on Mother’s Day evening (a Sunday) and had a very disappointing overall experience. Despite booking a table for 6:30pm, we were told to wait in the bar and weren’t seated until 10 minutes after. We presumed this was just because they were busy but once we were finally led to our table, we were taken to a completely empty room with no other diners despite there being four/five tables other tables. The room had no atmosphere and felt cold. Thankfully, a couple of other parties arrived after us. We ordered drinks and my pint of Mahou was room temperature at best and pretty uninspiring. The starters were good, and my chicken liver parfait was tasty and a decent size. Likewise, the chocolate mousse dessert was good and well presented. However, what really let the food side of the meal down was the beef bourguignon, which four out of five of our party ordered. Thinking it was a French restaurant, we thought this would be a safe bet. How wrong we were. The mash potato had the texture of something that had been microwaved and the beef was sadly lacking (as you can see from my photo) — three small chunks and it was definitely not slow cooked like bourguignon should be. It was tough, fatty and not like any I have ever tasted. All four of us who ordered the same, reported the same feedback so it was hugely disappointing. I then heard the waiter ask the table next to us how their meal was, to which one of the ladies responded “hmm, very gristly beef” so I’m going to presume they had ordered the same. On to the staff, it was a dark haired slim chap serving us and to say he was rude and disinterested would be an understatement. At one point, my partner went searching for the toilet and asked him where she could find them, and his response was extremely surly. Every time he delivered a plate, it was practically thrown at us and he made no attempt to engage other than handing us our food or taking our orders. When we asked to take the service charge off our bill at the end and explained why, there was no apology, no reaction, nothing. He clearly didn’t want to be there and it rubbed off on his diners, who didn’t want to be there either. When you are paying those kind of prices, you expect better quality of food and the decency of a friendly server. Unfortunately we didn’t get that tonight at Bistro Pierre, Birmingham. Far better French restaurants around.

Mothers day meal very disappointing. Ran out of chicken and roast beef was more like cheap minute steak and so over done hard to cut into, beef bourginion was fatty and also chewy. We had one meal taken off the bill as it was inedible but when bill arrived the £60 deposit had not been taken off and was then told they only received £30! Luckily we had email to confirm that full deposit had been received. The service was really slow although the waiter was really nice. There was also a £19 service charge added which was not mentioned. Very sorry but won't be back.

It was busy. It was Mother’s Day. Having said that waiting half an hour to get some water and order drinks was not good. Then an hour to receive the starter and a further 30-45 minutes for the main course. The food was poor. Food sent back as it was cold. Other meals overcooked with even mushrooms that were hard to cut! Even a large profiterole was hard on the outside, a sign of being in the kitchen for a long time. We didn’t pay the service charge but the truth is they didn’t have the kitchen staff or serving staff for the day. The only way we could make this clear was not to pay the service charge. The food was really awful. We will not return

French food slightly lacking in flavour. The service was quite brusque and they felt rushed (it took a few goes to get the bill for example). Had the prawn starter, which was generous in its portion and tasted good, and the confit duck, which was cooked well, but lacked the incredible flavour of confiture duck I expected. The food was OK and the portion sizes were good, but there are better independent places for French food at a similar price.

Food just a bit uncooked but probably is just my taste

Staff were helpful and service was good but food was disappointing, me and my partner had steaks which had more fat than edible meat on them and the fat ran through the middle of the steaks so we're not completely edible. So if your someone like me who is a picky eater with textures I don't recommend the steaks however everything else was lovely.

Although it appears to be a chain (we were there in Swansea-Wales last summer), you can also eat very well here and the prices are acceptable for today's times!!! The restaurant or restaurants that we have visited so far are located on the water and have a very nice atmosphere!!!! Always my pleasure !!!

Went for a lovely meal this afternoon with family after organising a Christmas works meal before Christmas that was equally enjoyable. Prompt and unfussy service with simple but beautifully crafted French cuisine. Ate at the restaurant again today (7/2/24) with work colleagues for lunch. Great service despite being late for the booking. Varied menu with good veggie options and excellent front of house. Checked for allergies with guests before everyone ordered. Good safe practice.

Very nice canalside venue Food was good but only French themed,not French quality

Not bad, a decent French meal, chicken liver is okay, slow-cooked beef is also okay, it’s too troublesome to cook at home. If you use the discount, remember to figure it out when you check out to avoid them overcharging.

We used Bistrot Pierre for our family Christmas get together (20+) the staff were perfect and the food was great, especially as there were so many of us!!

Food was dire! Burnt and family member who had a vegan meal had the runs! Really below par. Shame as good surroundings

I went to this lovely place, and the food was really tasty, nicely presented, and there was plenty on the plate (which I appreciate). I had a starter, main course, and dessert, and honestly, I was stuffed. The only thing they could work on is the timing of bringing out the dishes – having more consistent gaps and serving things in the right order would make it even better.

Awful place. I came here on the 15th December and I would not recommend it. The staff were so miserable and impolite. Food was not the best or the warmest.

Really enjoyed the evening but as it was Christmas there was pressure to eat and move. Food was brought out quickly and we were told when we had to vacate which took the shine off the meal.

Lovely place with very tasty food!

I went here for an office Christmas meal as part of a team of 20. The whole experience was great. The staff were very helpful through the booking process and were flexible when I had to book a few extra seats. The food is very good. The best I've had of any Christmas meals in the last 5-6 years. The dining experience was great, everything was very well coordinated and nobody was waiting for food. I would highly recommend Bistrot Pierre, especially for any large parties.

Always happy to eat at Bistro Pierre and this was no exception. Food could have been hotter but given this was Christmas period with large lunch parties in I was more than sstisfied with the quality of the food.

I visited with a group of friends, even though Iusualgo to the mere green one but this was more central for my friends. Food was up to their usual high standards. This is the first time back after the lockdown. I will definitely be back.

Most of the staff were rude and slightly argumentative it was almost as if they went out of their way to be rude.

Very disappointed. Had Mushroom starter, which was on soggy bread and didn’t taste good at all. Rump steak main course was of poor quality, too tough and was well done , not medium as requested . For what we spent (£33 per head ) , I expected better quality food.

Good food, staff tried to be attentative, but seemed a bit short staffed. Atmosphere could do with a bit of background music low. But will definitely be back.

We had a very pleasant lunchtime here. The food was very good as was the service. We can highly recommend.

Group of 4 of us from work went on a Monday evening recently, we had no booking but they were able to seat us and let us know there might be a slight wait for our order to be taken. The same guy greeted us, showed us to our table, took our orders and served everything, he was covering lots of sections but we didnt really have to wait long at all. We all had different meals off the menu, all with different sides too and every one of us enjoyed what we had ordered. The house draft beer wasnt great and there was only a choice of two on that night (think there were other bottled beers I wish I'd opted for) as the house was very very light, watery and pretty flat. The alcohol free cocktail one of the table had went down really well as did a proper cocktail. The food menu was a great break from the chain stuff in the area, french inspired with something I would say for all tastes. The steak ordered for one of the table looked great and the dauphinoise potatoes were really really good. They were happy to swap out the french beans for brocolli on a dish too for us which was nice and made for a great meal after a long working day. I'll happily go back when I am working in the area again as it really was a nice different menu to all the places around and there were lots of dishes I picked my meal from that I would have been just as happy to have got.

The burger was delicious. I loved the jus in the miniature sauce pan.

Toughest steak ever. Ok, they never charged for it, but not a great food experience.

What a disappointment. The building is still in a beautiful location overlooking the Gas Street canal, but as for anything happening inside, we were sorely let down. The service was appalling; not due to the two members of staff, but there were only two of them looking after the phones, greeting clients, manning the bar, taking orders, serving, etc., etc. Not good. To add to it, half of the things on the menu were off! My starter and desert were divine when I actually got them, but the main course was atrocious. Chicken Chasseur or so they called it. The chicken breast was overcooked and dry and hadn't seen the Chasseur sauce before it was plonked on top of what was probably the sauce for the bourguinon - dreadful. Lots of frustrated clients trying to attract attention of the staff to order drinks or deserts. Sorely disappointed by what was previously a lovely place to dine and enjoy good food and drink.

Excellent meal for friend's 60th birthday. The staff were very helpful in enabling wheelchair access quickly and easily.

Chose of the lunch time menu. Mine was nice for the price (fish cake nicoise with squid to start). Lovely setting, particularly once the sunglasses gone down and the lights are on, in the basin. Ask for a table over looking the canal - a bit squashy but worth the view.

Waiter hit the nail on the head poor service, Slow dawdling basically unprofessional waitress spoilt the meal and cost the restraunt money.

Tired the beef bourguignon and the pork belly and they both were lovely. Well presented and good flavours. I would only comment that compared to all other restaurants I have eaten at, the pork belly piece was small. Service was very friendly. Prices are reasonable. It is one of my favourite restaurants to go to for a relaxed meal.

What has gone wrong here? Is it Brexit and lack of suitable staff? Supply chain issues? Whatever it is, after years of being a sound choice at various locations around the country, this particular site appears to be badly on the slide. The predominantly young waiting staff were courteous and efficient but that couldn't deflect from the fact that the food was awful. A 'tagine' that was like a bowl of couscous covered with a tin of tomatoes, Sunday roasts with the strangest selection of vegetables (a mountain of sweet red cabbage anybody?) and worst of all, a massively overcooked salmon fillet - at one point I thought I was eating the skin, but it was a half centimetre layer of burnt flesh - on what was laughably described as a risotto with a saffron infusion. This was more like Thai sticky rice, stuffed with peas, in a soup of yellow stuff, reheated in the oven. I notice that one of the founders of the chain is now advising on the food and drink offering at a new development in Nottingham and has presumably left the Bistrot Pierre company, so maybe it's the classic case of new management completely losing sight of the original vision. Whatever it is, we certainly won't be going back any time soon.

Not the best at all, only had two courses and both were awful, firstly most of the items we required were off, No duck breast, No Halibut No duck and no chicken at all Will we be going back ……..Nope !!!!

The duck entre was very poor, tasty but very little duck for £8. 8oz rump steak for medium rare was very rare, but tasty again with the peppercorn sauce although not much of the sauce in my view (a little pot)

Fine Dining on a fixed price menu - Result!

We went there for afternoon tea set without knowing it needs pre-booking. So we tried the lunch set. Glad that the food was good and overall atmosphere was pleasant. The only downside was we were sitting right next to the door and every time people walk past, the floor make loud noise and table shake a bit.

Menu looks good but... Had calamari- very chewy and no flavour despite saying spicy but even the calamari tasted of nothing ! Followed by burger - chunky beef burger but over cooked and very dry with dry bread roll. It was a disappointing visit and had to wait a long time in between courses (40 mins) Things were missed off the food order and long wait to get them. Would not go again sadly.

Disappointing, to be honest. Previous visit was excellent. Today though, had the Sunday roast beef. Was asked if I wanted of pink or well done. Not sure why they bothered as it came well done and half of it was gristly and not edible. One meagre slice. Two small half roast potatoes and a spoon full of veg. Sadly, not great value or great quality. My partner's chicken was also way over done and dry. Our puddings were both nice though. It's a shame as it's a lovely building in a nice setting, but with lots of new places popping up in that area they really need to up their game.

On entering we were taken to a table , crumbs on chair. We had to eventually ask for a drink, they were not busy only a handful of customers in at 4.30,ordered steaks waitress came back only one steak, waiter came back again no sweet potatoe fries. Wrong food arrived, two side dishes missing and Food cold. , we got a discount on bill but that’s not the point it was a Sunday lunch ruined, very disappointed.,

Doesn't matter if the food is decent if the service is that slow! 2 hours to have a starter & main, and that's without our mains being cleared before paying the bill. Would find somewhere else in future

I always enjoy this place. Not had a bad meal or service yet. And if you get a table in the greenhouse bit, you get lovely views on Gas St basin.

What a disappointment, we had expected a really nice meal from the reviews. It started off badly with the manager telling us the wrong soup of the day, French Onion is my favourite, so that was out. I had the Mackerel Fillet With beetroot, buttered new potatoes, grapes, French beans and Dijon beurre blanc. The fish was overcooked, and the potatoes, were curious, i was unsure if they had been specially prepared to make them black, they just tasted stale, having eaten some i realised that they were meant to be buttered new potatoes, all in all the entire meal was overcooked. My wife had the duck breast, the chef had butterflied the breast to cook it, and it was as tough as shoe leather. We did complain, and the price of the main courses were knocked off the bill, the manager did explain that they had staff issues and a new menu and the staff had not a grip of it yet. With hindsight we should have refused to pay for any off it, I think my attitude is hardening after this incident, I should not have to pay for an evening ruined by incompetent, badly instructed cooks.

Went here for a birthday treat from my daughter. When we arrived the team seemed rushed and told people there would be a wait. Fair enough these things happen. We went across the road to Coconut kitchen for starters and cocktails - delicious! And impeccable service. We went back to our booking. It was like the wheels had come off. We got seated. Ordered. Happy to wait as the waiters were rushed off their feet.(and we had had starters across the road) Then when we ordered what was left on the menu we’re disappointed when some dishes arrived cold and one had undercooked potatoes.. staff were lovely. Just not enough of them. Reading reviews now it looks like it’s been an issue for a while. Shame. One to avoid until they get a larger team

The steak was amazing absolutely delicious. but the rest absolutely awful. Our table was booked for 18:30 on the 03/04 it was mine and my boyfriends anniversary meal so I thought I’d book a nice restaurant…we turned up at 6:20 and the man told us to sit in the bar he will be 10 Minutes…40 MINUTES LATER at 19:00 we finally got taken to our table. Ordered our drinks and our food. The starters came my boyfriends scallops weren’t great and one of them was Raw. I had the Brie and it was COLD. When the waiter came to get the plates we asked for a coke. 20 minutes later the main came out and he still hadn’t got his coke before he could ask a waiter anything she Litteraly ran off I mean actually ran. So half way through our meal we finally flagged a waiter down and got the coke which came out in 2 seconds when we asked they clearly couldn’t be bothered to bring it over. After I ordered a cocktail and a dessert. First of all the dessert wasn’t anything like the waiter said I asked if it was nice and she said it was very nice and chocolatey (praline and chocolate bombs) and I love chocolate so I said yeah I’ll go for that 20 minutes later my cocktail came and then 25 MINS the dessert. It was Vile not what she had told me it would be like AT ALL. So dissatisfied and disappointed I left starving and I get full very easy.

Can't say I am happy. They brought me the wrong wine. Slow cooked lamb was hard and dry. Could not finish it. Starter and desert were good. I think this is one to avoid.

Went for the 6 course meal last Tuesday. Incredibly disappointed. The worst French onion soup I've ever had, so bland! The brie was the best part, but it's hard to go wrong with fried cheese. Service was poor, I can easily understand the new staff taking food to the wrong table which happened a few times. But the senior member of staff seemed miserable and didn't do checkbacks or come to ask if we wanted more drinks.

Great food and the staff are very attentive and always aim to please. Last visit we had the set Mother's Day menu and it was very good value.

I don't think that I have ever had a worse restaurant experience. We had prebooked and preordered our food. When we arrived at 5.30pm, our table was not ready and we had to wait about 10 minutes. That wasn't a big problem. However, no-one came to ask us for a drinks order for nearly half an hour and then we continued to wait for our food. After an hour and a half, we asked about our food and the waitress said she would find out - she never returned. The table next to us had arrived shortly after us and had tickets for a show. They had to leave before their food arrived. Another table walked out without paying. We were on the point of paying for the drinks and leaving when the manager came to tell us that our food was just about to arrive. It arrived, but some of us had to wait about five minutes after the others. Mine arrived last and must have been sitting under the lamp for a long time and the sauce was largely dried up. Desserts arrived promptly, some were cold, portions of ice-cream were miniscule. Mine didn't arrive at all until I spoke to the waiter; it came just as the others were finishing. The manager discounted half of the drinks and all of the desserts. Obviously, we shall never go there again but the worst thing was that we were told nothing. We were not warned that they were short-staffed, we were not given any information as to why we had to wait. We were completely in the dark about what was happening, all the way through.

Held a small wedding reception meal recently in the glass box room. The room was comfortable and bright with lovely views of the canal. It was great. The food was very nice and the service was excellent. This place has a nice ambience and decor Recommended.

Have been trying various places but with Covid and related staffing issues everywhere it has been really difficult to get a really good meal anywhere but we decided to try Le Bistrot for lunch on the 'off chance' and what an absolute delight. Excellent choice of food, cooked perfectly (including vegetables which is rare these days). Waitress was so helpful and pleasant. It has renewed our faith in UK cuisine. Thank you so much to the chef and all the staff.

Best meal I have ever eaten. Roast beef. Friendly staff, reasonably priced. Although, the fixed menu has reduced dishes. They are still on the menu however, priced individually

High quality food at a reasonable price. Friendly staff and a classy building. Good for groups or couples. Located beside the canal and easy to get to. Wine was well received too. Well worth popping into if you are in Birmingham.

Beautiful venue with a gorgeous little courtyard, the staff were amazing so helpful and friendly, unfortunately the food was a bit of a let down so I wouldn't go there again.

Quick service but we had a bad experience. My Partner had pre ordered her food as part of a group booking and the steak came out overcooked. The waitress who we approached wasn't apologetic or seemed to care but took it back. We then had to chase up where the replacement steak was which turned up cold and this time not cooked enough. Luckily the shift manager was very courteous and polite when we complained about the food and the attitude of the one waitress. It's a shame because the rest of the staff and food were great, but it has put me off returning.

You must try the ice cream scones. You ran out of the cream you normally use for scones so gave us ice cream instead

Great value for money, lovely decor and atmosphere. The service was painfully slow though. All the other tables had a collective laugh at how my table was receiving food even though they had ordered way before me. Tasty food

This occasion was a surprise birthday present to go somewhere we would not normally go. It was very quiet when we arrived upstairs. There was only one other group at the other table. We had high expectations but was very disappointed. The food we ordered was not the same as discribed on their photo menu online. This happened with both adult meals along with the description on the menu at our table. We almost finished our main course by the time our sides arrived. In the end we both sat there eating only our side menu as we had now finished our main meal. Then we were given the wrong dessert so by the time it arrived all the rest of us had finished eating our. 2 children and 1 adult had ordered the same dessert. So 2 were from the children's menu and the other from the adult menu. When they arrived they were all the same size and nothing extra on the adult one yet the adults dessert cost considerably more than the children's. We could have swopped them all around and no one would be able to tell which was the adults dessert and the child's dessert. Yet after all that the food was beautiful. The surroundings were just stunning and exquisite as well as the staff. While waiting for our food we had high expectations along with looking forward to a beautiful experience for this suprise happy occasion for me. We kept saying WE WILL HAVE TO COME BACK HERE AGAIN. Sorry to say once we walked out we certainly did not feel the same which was a REAL shame as my daughter did lots of research to find this restaurant. Not to mention that she had to travel over an hour to get to this restaurant. It was her special surprise treat for my birthday. As I said before the staff were extremely delightful and polite. It was such a shame we had such a poor experience that day we arrived. THANK YOU FOR YOU QUICK RESPONSE BELOW ABOUT THE DESSERT. BUT YOU HAVE COMPLETELY IGNORED THE REST OUF OUR EXPERIENCE WHICH IS A REAL SHAME.

Booked a table for a pre-theatre meal at 5:30 p.m. on Friday 21/01/22. Seated promptly with drinks arriving and food ordered by 5:40: No meal by 6:45 p.m. so queried the order with server but no follow up. Queried again with “Manager” who replied “don’t you know how it works”! Apparently if you only order a main meal without a starter you still have to wait the time as if you had! So, basically our fault for not partaking in a three course meal. Meal finally arrived 10 mins later, lukewarm and one course not as specified. Waitress said we should should have been informed of the alternative side portion. Due to the extensive wait didn’t have time for a dessert and to cap it off by not checking the bill at the time (brassed off by then) we later discovered we’d be charged for the additional side in place of what we couldn’t have! Diabolical service from LeBistro Pierre.

Paid for a bottle of champagne to be added to our daughters birthday meal. Happily took the money but no goods! The restaurant in Birmingham was not busy on the evening they went but they didn’t receive the champagne. Extremely disappointing, I called and was told it had to be processed by head office. Despite many promises a week on there has been no contact from the group, no refund, no apology. No real justification for that IMHO they have numerous contact details for us. Having worked and been brought up in hospitality it’s very poor…. Not happy!!
