What a perfect Birthday lunch first time have had a meal that we could both eat portion size. both fish and chicken cooked lovely and tasty.worth every penny in fact we have booked again for our wedding anniversary a big thank you to all the staff excellent claire & colin

My husband and I went yesterday for our 48th wedding anniversary. Food was fantastic. Service was exceptional! The hidden gem of Tutbury! We will be back!

Superb sharing platters tonight with some absolutely beautifully cooked fish - whitebait, prawns, scallops on pork belly and gougeres stuffed with prawn mousse- all with aioli and spicy sauces for dipping everything in- really yummy!!! Main was also a sharing platter of sea bass, herb crusted cod (divine!), salmon (perfection!) smoked haddock tartlette with a gorgeous tomato concasse + frites. We also had the most soft and squishy roulade with strawberries and raspberries. A wonderful meal out with a friend who treated me for my birthday! Thanks to Robin and Terri and their team for a brilliant meal💕💕

This has got to be one of the best Bistrot in the midlands. Great food with a brilliant chef backed up by first class service and atmosphere. The themed evenings are particularly excellent. Would highly recommend

Sunday lunch was bustling - very warm, lively atmosphere. The food was superb. I had sirloin of beef - a thick slice of perfectly pink beef topped with slice beef fat. I not had beef so good in years. Served with a fabulous yorkshire puddling, perfectly cooked vegetables and divine cauliflower cheese . My husband had pork, served with stuffing and crispy crackling which was equally good. My starter of smiled salmon , prawns and white crab was a thing of beauty that I didn’t to end , fresh, light and delicious. I can totally recommend Bistro Max - was a very special Sunday treat - fabulous staff too

What an absolute delight this restaurant is. Telephone booking was easy and email confirmation and reminder followed. Didn’t think we would need it for Monday lunch - I was wrong. It was very busy. Staff were amazing from choosing drinks, to remembering no ice in one, to letting us know only 1 lemon posset left - which I grabbed. I chose from the fish specials board but switched chips for new potatoes and salad for asparagus. Beef Bourguignon and Lamb cutlets (pink) were good - empty plates from everyone. Crème brûlée, lemon meringue roulade and my Lemon posset were all excellent.

We arrived towards the end of the lunch period but were welcomed by the very friendly staff who offered us the full menu. There was a good range of choices but we all selected muscles to start and were not disappointed by the generous portions and attractive presentation. We chose a variety of main courses. All were delicious, again nicely presented and generous. The beef carbonnade was a delight, with the offer of a spoon for the sauce very welcome. We certainly hope to return.

Simply the best! We have been here on different days, at different times, for all variations of their menus. The staff are fabulous, friendly, efficient and very personable, the menus have plenty of choice, the specials board is always hard to choose from. Robin the chef has an amazing talent and clearly loves what he does, we've never had a bad experience. Also a fantastic choice of wines, some off the usual beaten path, if you're struggling to pick, Terri is on hand to offer suggestions. I cannot recommend highly enough!

We had an absolutely fantastic meal at this hidden gem. Delicious fish menu cooked to perfection. Due to a family emergency we had to reduce our booking from 6 people to 2 just the day before and the staff couldn’t have been kinder - we felt very guilty about such short notice. We will be back - highly recommend.

Our second visit and it certainly won’t be our last. Superb food served by excellent staff who were very welcoming as well as being knowledgeable about what was on the menu. There were four of us and we couldn’t fault anything we ate today. See you again soon !

Absolutely wonderful meal!! The place is lovely, the staff are attentive and friendly and the food was divine. I can highly recommend the fillet steak and peppercorn sauce and the beef bourguignon. We will be back, and thank you all so much for such a lovely lunch.

What a find. We’d heard so many great things about Bistrot Max we just had to give it a go. Twice now in 3 weeks. The food is stunning and the service from all the staff is excellent. Would highly recommend.

When I found out that the previous owners of The Saracen’s Head in Shirley, had opened up a bistro in Tutbury, I knew I had to go. Beautiful, warm and inviting dining space with a lovely atmosphere and friendly welcome. The menu is mouthwatering with traditional options, instead of anything too “fancy or pretentious”. Plenty of choice for all diners. I was so torn with what to pick. All the food was (as predicted) cooked to perfection! Robin’s meat cookery is unrivalled and sides and sauces delicious. My favourite thing is that food is served on hot plates! If only other restaurants would do this. Not a single thing to fault. Thank you for a superb lunch. Highly recommend and looking forward to my next visit 😊

This was our second visit to Bistro Max and our culinary experience was equally as good as the last. Superbly cooked roast meats, plentiful vegetables and delicious desserts. The service is prompt and friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch yet again. Well done to the chef and staff at Bistro Max.

Tucked away in a small atmospheric arcade in Tutbury, Bistrot Max provides a cosy atmosphere, friendly staff and a range of tasty menus. We particularly enjoyed a curry evening, a three course meal of generous proportions, with three different curries in the main course, and a tasty dessert. We shall return.

Wonderful - as always! We had the cooked breakfast and coffee, and really enjoyed it. Excellent, friendly service.

I don't know what to say that I haven't said previously. Great food cooked to perfection. Attentive friendly staff. Pleasent atmosphere. Already booked for a return visit. Thank you Terri and Robin - see you soon.

Delicious food, friendly and efficient service, good wine. There was a good range of choices on the menu and specials board. Not cheap, but it was worth the price. An excellent experience!

Fabulous Sunday lunch couldn’t fault anything, Terri and all her staff were to a high standard and not forgetting top chef Robin the roast pork was to die for. Would definitely recommend and we will certainly be back.

Who would've though we had such an amazing bistro right here in the middle of Tutbury? We went for lunch today and before dessert course I'd already run out of superlatives to describe the food! We had the mackerel and the crab fritters to start, followed by the Hake and the Bouillabaisse for mains - with the creme caramel tucked in for afters. They were all amazing! (one of the aforementioned oft used superlatives). It's a delightful bistro, tucked away in the mews at the bottom of Tutbury high Street. We had booked our table, and it was indeed reasonably busy for a Monday lunchtime. Very comfortable inside and a warm friendly welcome from the staff. The menu is terrific, with so many good choices (I love it when your "shortlist" is still three or four dishes long), and they also have some brilliant choices on the "specials" board. What's not to love about that. The food is sublime, really, really delicious (did I mention it was really good). The staff are freindly and efficient - exactly as they should be. Compliments to the chef! My only issue (and we're not talking a problem really here) is that I didn't have any cash on me and so couldn't leave a much deserved tip. Next time I remember this! Brilliant Breakfast!! I went to Bistrot Max with my sister in law and niece for breakfast yesterday, and it was absolutely gorgeous! We were 3 ‘awkward’ customers, as we all wanted the full breakfast, but all wanted different amendments to the dish, incorporating items from other dishes!! The waitress was great, and neither she or the chef made us feel like we were being difficult, and there was absolutely no issues with this, which to me is the sign of a great restaurant, where everything is clearly freshly cooked to order. All 3 breakfasts were delicious and perfectly cooked. My niece said it was the best breakfast and iced coffee, ever!! The only problem we had, was when we got back and told my sister how good it was! She will definitely be coming next time! Bistrot Max will now be my go to restaurant, and I can’t wait for an excuse to go again!

A good addition to Tutbury food scene. We went at the lunchtime it was very busy which made the room slightly too noisy for my liking, but this is just a personal opinion. The food was very good, but on the expensive side for lunch, I’d like to try it in the evening. The service was very pleasant but I had what I considered too long a wait for my pudding(about 25 minutes) so just paid and left. I wasn’t aware there was parking nearby and walked from the top of the street which was nice to look in the other shops etc.

Fabulous bouillabaisse and really decadent strawberry & raspberry pavlova! Yummy! Thoroughly enjoyed my meal & wine & coffee. What a gem to have in our village! 👏👏👏👏👏🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
