Billy Winters Beach Bar + Diner in Weymouth and Portland

What a fantastic little beach bar !!! In the height of summer it's literally the place to be. Amazing views and an atmosphere that's reminiscent of Cala Llonga Ibiza. You can watch the Kite Borders and Paddle Boarders whilst you sip cocktails and watch the world go by in the beautiful bay that stretches out from the pebble shoreline at Billy Winters. Add this one to your list of places to go !!

It’s a shame you’re closed because I just watched a video of about a dozen “Just Stop Oil” morons getting pushed by a bus. Your sign was right there. Talk about going viral. anywho!

We had the fish and chips Friday which are very small portions but expected for the price I think the way they make the money is on the extortionate drinks prices where the beer is at £6.10 which is more expensive than hotels and pubs in this area and even Cornwalls Tintagel Castle??

First time we have been since it turned into the bar-WOW we were blown away! The food was out of this world So fresh and tasty. For the 1st of November the weather was absolutely glorious. We have already highly recommended a visit to friends.

Great place felt like we was on holiday. Had the Friday fish offer it was great someone else said the portions wasn't big enough for a 3 year old but they was just right for us 4 adults

I really liked this place… Nice pint of IPA with some crab tacos and staff who were friendly and happy to share their local knowledge. Great little find!

Didn't spend long enough to give a full review. But we enjoyed the short time we were there.

Food hit and miss, can be poor value. The monk fish Taco had one little piece of fried Scampi on each taco for nearly £20. Nice place for a drink though, with great views of the harbour.

Called in here during a bike ride to Portland bill,for a beautiful vegan beetroot burger with fries,super friendly service,gorgeous place,real Caribbean feel about it ! Also had a beautiful swim right outside the door,will definitely be calling again before we leave.A real find 😊

We have been a few times and this last time was an absolute nightmare from start to finish. A little early for wings Wednesday so decided to have a drink first, this was 14.45. At 15.25 we were actually asked if we wanted something to eat after being ignored by a certain male member of staff. This made my wife feel very uncomfortable. We won’t be going back in a hurry if at all.

Having taken a walk along the Jurassic Costal path, we had a real appetite for a hearty lunch. We saw a large yellow gazebo from afar and wondered what it was- hoping they served coffee and a cake. When we arrived, we noticed this was not just an ordinary place! From the decor to the menu, we were pleasantly surprised. In fact, overjoyed to have found it. The food was stunning. We had a table overlooking the coast. The waiting staff were knowledgeable and attentive. I recommend trying the local oysters and the fish and chips are to die for. Highly recommend this little gem.

Wow! What a gem - an oasis of funkiness in a superb spot. Can’t wait to come back and I haven’t even left yet!

Just had the fish and chips Fryday special, the smallest portion ever, one overgrown fish finger size piece of white fish and not much more than a dozen chips wouldn't even feed a 6 year old the worst £18 we have ever spent. Better off paying a bit more at Bennetts and getting a decent meal. Will never go there again. Can't put dinner because it was a snack!!!!!!

Very disappointing, don't recommend the Fish and chips Fryday £6.50 for the tiniest portion of fish served in a very small bamboo tray with a miniscule portion of cheap frozen chips. Wooden cutlery which made it very difficult to eat off. Not even a child's portion! If you want value for money then head for one of the local fish and chip shops. You're only paying for the view here. Asked for tomato sauce waited and it never came had to get up and get it myself. Drinks were over priced. Definitely won't be going back.

Enjoyed a late lunch at the delightful spot on beautiful sunny fall day. With friendly staff, and both indoor and outdoor (covered or uncovered) seating right along the beach, it’s a perfect beach bar. Food was delicious and beer options are plentiful. Highly recommend!

We ended up visiting this place on a few occasions over our holiday, it was so good! The staff are friendly, attentive and conversational, serving phenomenal food. Our group ended up trying most options on their menu through a few visits and literally the only feedback we'd give is to put slightly less salt on the calamari rings (the food is still a 10/10 easily!). We loved the atmosphere and way the restaurant was decorated too, it's a gorgeous view out to sea from where you sit. If we return to the area this place is on the top of our list to go for food 🍴

Beach cafe on the edge of Portland marina. Great atmosphere, different food and a bar.

Service is very slow, food portions are very small and it’s overpriced. However the scenery is great and it’s nice to watch the wind surfers.

Great location and atmosphere. Love it here but there are a few downsides.... Put off by the disposal plates, cutlery and drinkware. The cutlery is unusable. They are compostable but proper cutlery and plates are even more sustainable. Flimsy plastic beer glasses are horrible... they could provide hard plastic reusable ones for outside. Prices have crept right up

Perfect little spot for a bite to eat. Me and the family have come here two days on the trot and haven't been disappointed. Both service and food were on point.

Great spot for a drink (particularly if young kids want a swim). Food a bit expensive and the crab tacos were a bit of a let down - crab lovely but weird dry small tacos that seemed stale.

Hubby had a burger I had the crab tacos ,the young girl serving was very polite and thanked us for our customer. Didn't get her name sorry.

Beautiful view but sadly won't be returning, we had food and drinks Food was ok cider cold but the cocktail was over priced at nearly £10 in a small plastic cup half full and mainly ice plus told we couldn't use there toilet told to go across the road 20min walk there and back

Over priced measley portion served luke warm kn a bamboo fish and chip tray with wooden knives and forks, paying for the scenery and not the food, shame.

Just popped in for chips, coffee and cake, and it was very pleasant. Nice relaxed atmosphere and staff, with a great view out over the beech.

We try and come here to eat every time we visit Weymouth. Usually walk or cycle as parking can be difficult in high season, but there is a car park and another within a shirt walk Food and service are always great. If you are visiting, please bear in mind this is a very popular venue, it is a relaxed bar/restaurant serving good food (with it's basis on street food) and at times can be busy and as a result service and waiting times can vary. We had the crab tacos from the main menu and pardon peppers (with seaweed) and three red prawns from the specials. Flavours were excellent with all and I mopped up all the sauce from the prawns. Can't fault the venue, friendly helpful staff or the food. Private pebble beach area facing north towards the Dorset coast; great to sit and have another beer after a meal Will be back again.

Outside bar for food and drinks was open but no toilet facilities my 11year old grandson was told to cross a very busy duel carriageway and walk down to the visitors center unacceptable considering they quick enough to take our money for food and drinks

This is an amazing little place. There is an outdoor seating area with its own bar, a large marquee to the side of the main restaurant with an array of wooden seating and large picnic tables and a small indoor seating area. I have read many reviews complaining about poor service, and I did not see this at all. The staff were attentive and helpful. It is quite a relaxed environment, so if you are one of these entitled people who think the world revolves around them maybe not the place for you. Drinks were nice, food was amazing. Monkfish tacos had a variety of wrap types, burger was stunning. I had squid rings but my kids liked them so much I hardly had any. Pardon peppers special was extra nice. My favorite part was paying when you order so we could just leave when we were ready. I’d give this place more than 5* if it was possible.

We came in for dinner on our holiday as we had seen the restaurant on a TV programme. The venue is quirky and fun in a great location. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. 3 of us had tacos and were disappointed with them. The taco shells tasted like cardboard and they all fell apart so we couldn't pick them up to roll them. There wasn't much flavour on any of them, I was very disappointed. I'm glad we ordered a side of chips to help bulk up the meal. My husband had a pizza which he said was good. It was a shame as we're looking forward to coming and maybe we just chose wrong.

Just eaten at Billy Winters, staff polite enough. Sat outside with a misty view which was cool. Ordered the fish and chips and a flaming pig pizza, neither were great tbh! Hardly any topping on the pizza, certainly not worth £18 and the fish and chips were tasty but very small portion for £14. Won't rush back sadly 😣

Totally love this place. So brilliant as on the beach. Surfer type vibe with all welcome. Food excellent, choice excellent love this place. Highly recommend, a must visit always when we are in Weymouth multiple times xxx

Really great atmosphere here, a chilled out vibe and loves the styling of the restaurant. Service was amazing, quick and the waitress was attentive. Only downside was the food itself was just ok, everyone got what they ordered to the specified liking but the squid rings could probably have done with being cooked a little bit more and the pizza was quite floury.but generally a good experience eating out here.

Food can a bit pricey- choose wisely ro get good value-but you pay for a lively atmosphere, a beautiful view and great staff.

Unfortunately we didn't have the chance to order anything today as the staff were too busy socialising, rather then doing their jobs. Arrived at 1:15 and was seated at 111, we asked where to order and was told it was table service only. Unfortunately we left after 45mins as no one served us. Poor service, I wouldn't recommend.

Visited here on a wonderful sunny day whilst on holiday in the area and had a great afternoon. We had cocktails, beers and amazing food! Highly recommend the Mackerel Caesar salad and the corn ribs - which were to die for! And what a view......cannot wait to return when we are in the area again! A*

Nice and simple food in a great atmosphere. Sadly, the service was appalling. Poor communication between the waiting staff; the manager or whoever was in charge that day (male chubby chap on the 29th/6/2024) had very cocky and condescending attitude, giving us non-sense excuses about the QR menu. Very rude!

It's a nice place with a good view and friendly staff also good with free parking! I got a cocktail and the pulled meat tacos. It was good but I was still hungry after eating so not as filling as I had hoped. Also the 3 types of soft taco shells weren't completely my taste.

Didn't have food only called in for a drink during a walk from little sea caravan park to portland. But wish we had more time to come back. Will definitely call in if in the area again. Such a relaxing feel to the place overlooking sea and food looked good.

Turned up at lunchtime and were advised it was a 10-15 minute wait and we were seated within that time. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The menu has a good variety of dishes and our group of 4 had a variety from both the main menu and from the specials, all of which were great. There was a bit of a wait for food, which was to be expected as it was busy, but the food was hot and clearly freshly cooked, so absolutely worth the wait. Drinks came quickly. Minor modifications were accommodated for with a smile, good allergen information was available and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for a lovely meal! And the view is great!

I visited Billy Winters in May '24 on my kayak after paddling across Portland Harbour. A walker who was walking the coastal path turned up at the same time for a cuppa and a cake. The girl acted like we were a massive inconvenience for her when ordering-this was about 2.30pm. When we asked about if they had any cakes, brownies etc, she sighed and robotically reeled off a list of the cakes, but said they were in the fridge or freezer so couldn't show me until I bought one. I don't know about you, but I'd like to see a cake before agreeing to purchase a slice as is the norm in cafes. I decided on a cup of tea, the small paper cup was only half full. It was proper weak and I was charged £3 for this! I know I'm a tight northerner but this is crazy for a run down shack! After finishing, myself and the walker asked where the toilets were in the cafe, we were told they didn't have any (Surely this breaks rules for a cafe/restaurant) and was told to walk way down the road to the public toilets. Being a solo Kayaker I didn't really want to leave my kayak unattended, out of view on the shore and trek down to find some public toilets so declined. We then looked for bins to dispose of our paper cups, the sides to shack had been shut this time and there was nowhere to dispose of cups-again like with the toilets surely waste disposal has to be provided by cafes and restaurants by law! An absolute dump and a rip off too with rude staff who don't want your custom

Great place by the bay. Just had drinks but a nice tropical "vibe" despite the outside weather being damp and overcast at the time of our visit.

Had the most brilliant afternoon at Billy Winters, to celebrate my 60th birthday. Georgia and her team couldn't do enough to ensure our large party of family and friends were well looked after, nothing was too much trouble. Location is perfect, food outstanding and the relaxed atmosphere just added to the special occasion.

Great beach shack! Good quality produce, nice and quick service and reasonable prices. Gluten free fish and chips!

Very relaxed and causal atmosphere. Piped music only added to atmosphere. Parking free if drinking/eating in roped off area in car park. Interesting specials board. Oysters now on menu from own oyster farm. No reservations so first come first served. Covered outside area most Mediterranean with lights. Check opening times as appears to shut early in evenings. Fantastic views over harbour.

After being turned away from another restaurant for being too late we stumbled across Billy Winters and we were so glad we did. We had a fab meal (crab tacos, squid and fishermans bap) but more than anything the service was over and above. It was a sunny day and there was a steady stream of new customers for the entire time we were there, despite it being the end of the day, however the staff were friendly and although short-staffed were constantly smiling and checking everyone had what they needed. One lady in particular was amazing, I forgot to ask her name but I think she was the manager, but the whole team were great. We want to come back already, but sadly live out of the area. Thanks for a great lunch guys :)

Superb place to enjoy the sea/view and enjoy the sun.

Portion sizes were small and we were all hungry after our meals. Also drinks order came out totally random and wrong. For desert we were sold a ‘Blondie’ which was actually bread pudding or something. Looks like an American crab shack kinda place but just lacks the filling food and efficient service of such.

Staff were amazing, very friendly. We all had a great night. Thank you

This is the place to chill out and relax after a hard morning of sight seeing . We sat in the sort of covered lean to which kept the crisp sea breeze at bay . The service was excellent and quick. The young lady taking our order was cheery and a font of knowledge about the area. With some cool layed back music wafting through the family-friendly atmosphere complimenting the delicious homemade apple slice and coffee. The dish of mussels on the specials menu looked and smelt devine. All with a fantastic view of the sea.

Really enjoy this place, food drink and great ambience, lovely.

At first it was a 5* experience with attentive staff and good service until as a few more guests arrived and they were seated some staff went on a deserved break and after that the service was pretty poor. We waited almost half an hour and for anyone to come and ask if we we’d like anything else such as drinks or a dessert but nothing! Made even more frustrating as they keep saying relax it’s all table service… Other tables around us also got fed up and became frustrated. Food was pretty decent to be fair, fish and chips were slightly poor I was told but burger and our other food was decent. Overall we left rather disappointed which was such a shame as we’d been recommended this venue.

Served me disgusting gone off "fresh" muscles ate 5 and realised they smelled so bad now got dodgy stomach and instead of offering refund they offer replacement like I really want to eat that after the disgusting first lot they gave me, gave the replacement to the table next to us and left. Only good thing is location.

I would have emailed this review but the contact form on the website isn’t working: I ate there on 31st March. Paid £19.73 (upfront as is the rule). Then randomly got a refund on 8th April. And it’s come out again this morning as a “delayed charge”. Not sure what’s going on here but can you sort it out as it’s annoying having money bouncing in and out of my account weeks after the fact. While I’m here I may as well post the rest of my review that I couldn’t be bothered with originally. We’d sat for lunch and paid £100 across our table, then noticed the parking sign as we were leaving. Told the waitress we were just going to go for a short 10 minute walk so asked if we could please have a retrospective parking token as we’d just eaten. “No” was the answer. Plus the crab tacos were like 90% mayonnaise and just not very nice. Mackerel bap and the bacon scallop roll were tasty, in the interest of balance. Please sort your banking out. If a refund comes through again I’ll be instructing my bank to block you EDIT: It’s now happened to my wife as well with a different bank. But with no refund, so she’s just been charged twice
