Went for breakfast. Has an extensive breakfast menu, staff were lovely and accommodating. Had the Halloumi, Eggs and Tomatoes on Sourdough bread and my girlfriend had the plant plate. A lot of vegan/vegetarian options which is sometimes rare in restaurants, especially with breakfast. Affordable price, and a 20% discount for students is always appealing. Would highly recommend, the food was stunning and a welcoming atmosphere. Ready to go back!!

Positives are nice location and nice sitting outside in good weather, also friendly staff. Negatives in my case were the poor quality of the breakfast, especially for the price. Why they choose to serve streaky bacon is beyond me especially as it often arrives overdone and chewy. I declined beans and mushrooms from their breakfast menu and was offered extra toast instead but refused extra bacon as an alternative (and for some extra bacon I was charged an extra £2.25 for a couple of rashers which turned out to be hardly edible). The fried eggs were also overdone leaving me with only one enjoyable item - the sourdough toasted bread which was very nice. So, for tea, toast, egg and very poor streaky bacon I paid over £18. Not good.

Visited for a family brunch and enjoyed the whole experience - a nice welcome, good table (if a little on the small side for 4 of us), great service and excellent food - highly recommend the garden plate and the servings were generous.

Great atmosphere, tables nicely spaced so you can’t hear other tables conversations, the rooms are lovely, and outside is nice in the summer. The food is always great and definitely the top end of chain food! The menu is different and interesting and the duck tacos, the meatballs and the mini hot doughnuts were all amazing. They could brush up on their service and but still really good value for money!

We've been here a few times and always have a lovely dining experience. Food is always on point and the service is lovely. The past two visits in particular have been absolutely exceptional though all thanks to Daisy. She is warm, attentive, personable and everything you would want your waitress to be and more. It's like being served by a friend (but still somehow in a professional way). Her memory skills are grear as she remembered us from a previous visit which always makes you feel special and she also remembered the side I had last time. Baring in mind our visit prior to this was in the height of summer and this visit was the Friday before new year's so even with a sizeable chunk of time, she still remembered. Thanks Daisy for your wonderful service, you've really upped Bill's experience for us, so much so that I had to ask another server for your name (as my memory isn't great) just so I could rave about you!

Chain restaurant. Staff were friendly enough. Food was nice but nothing special and woefully over-priced. Chicken Shwarma was overcooked, dry and bland. Salad had no dressing. Had to ask for Caesar dressing on a Caesar salad. Prawn cocktail had three small prawns with the rest padded out with salmon mousse and avocado for £7.95. Mini desserts were nice. 12.5 % service charge added “for your convenience.” Okay if you don’t mind having to remind staff that you need forks for the main course, or you sit looking at your drinks order sitting on the bar for five minutes as the server asks if you need anything else? Well, yes actually. I think that’s our order sitting on the bar. Overall, nothing to complain about. Just nothing special. If you enjoy just tearing up a couple of £50 notes for salads and a couple of small beers, this is the place for you!

Best eggs benedict ever, love it here its amazing. Came for my birthday and I always sit outside and they were lovely about it. I was afraid they’d forget about us since we were the only crazy people who were sitting outside in December but the service was lovely and the food came quick.

Just popped in for some lunch whilst doing a bit of Christmas shopping . Very slow to get served at the table and then unfortunately the food arrived very cold , A little disappointing .

We went to Bills Colchester for lunch. We ordered a sharing plate as it’s our choice of size of meal and ordered a side of fries and 2 glasses of wine. Halfway through the meal a member of staff asked if we wanted anymore drinks as we could only order alcohol with the meal - at that time we did not want another glass of wine. Before we finished our meal - there was still food on our plates and the sharing plate - we asked for another glass of wine each and we were told we were not allowed to unless we ordered more food - which we didn’t need more food we had plenty- the staff member said it was Covid rules - so what would have happened if we had ordered a bottle of wine each - would she have taken the bottles away if we didn’t order more food. I attempted to discuss the issue in an appropriate away and was told I didn’t need to be rude — I’m not a rude person and I was not rude on this occasion. We paid and left. This is my second poor experience at Bills - the other one was in Braintree and it took 90 minutes to get food - so never again

Came for daughters 17th birthday. Whilst food was good, I asked for fries instead of rice with my meal and I was told I couldn’t swap but could have them if I paid an extra £4.75. Also, refused to let us have a jug of water so had to buy bottles at £3.75 each. Plus didn’t notice the 12.5% service charge that had been added to our bill. Made for a very expensive meal out!!

Bill's restaurant very friendly staff adhere to cov19 track and trace and taking your temperature. The staff showed us to a table brilliant choice of menu and drinks.Great food pan fried chicken with mushrooms lots of flavours well presented. The staff were always attentive. The dessert great choice Bill's flower pot lots of different flavours well presented. Would return again soon

It's so good to start your day with a wonderful breakfast when you discover a new city on your list. We had a reservation because these days my experience is that a bit complicated to find a table as a walk-in guest. From the point of our arrival we had a really good time here. We had also a window table which is always an extra but the restaurant is really bright with lovely decor great ambience friendly staff. We picked three different breakfast choice which were so filling and delicious and the bonus was the golden latte. Service was excellent in every way I really liked personally the little wooden spike with allergy sign on it. Many thanks for Charlotte for the great, attentive service. It's highly recommended place to dine.

A lunch time meal at Bills. I don’t usually write reviews but this restaurant is pricey.. portions very small. A main burger with two more rashes of bacon was £15 pounds and certainly not worth the price re size and standard of food. Our waitress was very good at slamming glasses down on the table.. And after being told that our daughter could not have a cocktail drink on her birthday as she didn’t have ID forget the fact that she is with her family!! The last massive issue is to have the bill pay by card and then realise that a twelve and half percent gratuity has been added to the bill with out being able to delete this. Resulting that we will never use this chain again Please read this and stay clear !!

The GF and I ate here after she had her hair cut in Colchester. Bill's is a favourite of ours because its always excellent value and delicious. Staff are always friendly. Our favourite is the buttermilk chicken burger which was excellent and so tender. Building was lovely and staff managed the temperature checks politely and professionally

Went here recently to take advantage of the eat out to help out scheme. We'd booked in advance but the table wasn't ready, so we had to wait outside in the street for this to become free. The waitress was very apologetic and offered us first drinks 'on the house', which was a nice gesture. Once seated, the service was slow but in all fairness I suspect they had underestimated the sheer demand the eat out scheme had generated. Again, the girls serving were very apologetic and were lovely to us so, although it was a long time between courses, it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Food choices pretty good, although the 'mojo' chicken skewers were very dry, so maybe they had waited as long as we had for them to arrive! Gooseberry, apple and elderflower crumble was lovely, so all in all quite a nice evening out, if perhaps later finishing than we'd have liked.

Having just walked out of a previous restaurant we were lucky to get a table here on a Friday night with no booking. Ambiance was great. Really chilled. Food was gorgeous. Tristan was our waiter who was great. Attentive but not hassling. Really lovely guy. Rest of staff friendly too. Thank you Bills. We will definitely be back.

I came in with my family for lunch and the food was divine. Excellent menu and the service was fantastic. Very attentive staff who took care of us throughout our meal. Very friendly and professional and the atmosphere was welcoming.

With five family members mainly vegetarian, I visited Bill's in Colchester Hight Street for dinner on Monday evening. The food choice was excellent for carnivores and vegetarians and the quality of food and service could not be faulted. I would recommend Bill's to anyone.

I really, really want to love going to Bill’s - this place has so much potential, but another below average experience. Loud and chaotic; not the relaxing moment I was hoping for. They were also not able to process my 0% lager as part of the current government scheme. Hasty to leave, I opted for take away donuts for dessert!

We decided to treat ourselves to a first meal out in town since lockdown and ended up wishing we hadn’t. It took a few minutes to get a table but understandable as they were doing temperature checks. It was then a long time before anyone came to take our order. We asked for some bread to come asap as our 3 yr old was getting hungry (orWas 20 mins since we turned up by this point) but this was ignored and just brought with the rest of the starters. They were nice but then the wait for our main meals was a long time given there were so few people in the restaurant. The mains were mediocre. It was a disappointing meal that we had been looking forward to and better service would have made a big difference. I know there is a new normal that we all need to get used to but if this is the new eating out I fear restaurants will just close, we certainly wouldn’t bother again anytime soon.

Great breakfast location. I have never been here for lunch so will have to try lunch after lockdown, but have been many times for breakfast. Pancakes are perfect and staff are polite and friendly

There was a party of six plus people for a birthday get together. All but one order had to be returned, replaced or complained about. The other was too embarrassed to do so. One dish was replaced multiple times and made us late for our next venue having to wait for another to be cooked. One of us totally went without and hungry.

What started out as a pleasant experience, Nice welcome friendly and helpful staff sadly deteriorated when the food arrived.I ordered Burger and Chips my wife fish When my burger arrived I was disappointed to find the chips were barely warm I called the waitress who took them away. leaving me to eat my Burger whilst I waited.The burger was frankly very disappointing. Small, unnecessarily held together by a stick, lacking in flavour, the tiniest dollop of relish, two lettuce leaves , two tiny pieces of onion and two tiny thinnest ever cut slices of pickle. Of course by the time my hot chips returned it was gone completely ruining my eating experience. This very much was the worse burger I have had and was certainly not cheap. Sadly I will not be visiting this restaurant again.

Went to bills for valentines because it’s one of our favourite places being as we had our first date there! Unfortunately we probably won’t be returning. Firstly we had our drinks where we found thick black grime on the outside of a glass but as my partner is polite decided to look past this. We then had our starters come out and as I was eating the breaded halloumi my partner saw a spider on a piece I was about to eat!!! We told our waitress who was incredibly rude explaining it’s an old building and must have fallen directly on the food and that she finds plenty of spiders in her own house and it’s just a way of life! We felt very embarrassed and kept quiet and carried on with the meal in a hurry to get out. After time to look over this we are really upset with how this was taken and feel the need to review our experience. Such a shame and I hope the business can improve their service as the food is delicious.

We were due to go away for a long time coming romantic break, but due to flooding at the holiday cottage it got cancelled and we had to stay home. Trying to make the best of it we decided to explore our local town centre for breakfasts. My husband chose Bill’s as we have never been before. We were seated and offered drinks. I had a coffee and to my husbands surprise I didn’t add any milk as the coffee was such good quality I just had it black. Then we ordered breakfast. I had the eggs Benedict and asked to change out the ham for bacon, no problem. Hubby had the Bill’s brunch and the quality of ingredients had him declare it was the best breakfast he had in a while (which is a statement indeed), plus they didn’t skimp on the butter for his toast! The food quality was one thing but the staff were the highlight, friendly relatable and couldn’t do enough. My husband who doesn’t normally engage with other people when we are out and about even joined in the chat! They knew that we had missed out on our holiday and went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our visit with them. We can’t wait to go back, so I am not sure we will be discovering many more gems in our local town, as why go elsewhere when Bill’s had everything we wanted!

Myself and my family Had a fabulous afternoon here yesterday for my birthday. The staff were incredibly helpful and attentive. I can’t fault them or the food. The service was incredible with a personal touch, they even put a candle in my dessert and sang happy birthday to me. They also gave me a gift as we were leaving. Definitely value for money and I can’t wait to go back.

My husband and I visited Bills for my birthday (23.12) it was lovely and warm inside with a good atmosphere. We were seen to quickly and seated. The young man was very attentive and served us quickly. I asked what something was on the menu and the Manager came to explain. Our food was brought out quickly and was really lovely. We had a dessert, I had lemon meringue which had lemon sorbet inside and was in a glass it was delicious. My husband had chocolate brownie and he said it was one if the best he had tasted. It was a lovely meal with lovely staff and atmosphere. Will definitely try a Bill’s restaurant again in my home town if Norwich and good it will be just as lovely.

I had gluten free halloumi burger, it's tasty but it's about as expensive as a burger on the main menu and they get chips! My partner had the festive burger which was quite nice, with a side of mac and cheese which he said was really good as well. We also had a kids meal - the starter of veg crudités and humous were brought out, but they were already dipped and if you don't like the humous (which she didn't!) then it was a bit of waste. Drinks are always a little pricey as well. It's quite a safe place to eat with gluten free options, and it's nice but always costs more than I think it should. Manager took our order due to the allergen, and I got a nice cocktail stick in my meal saying allergen haha

The prices are not really flowing with what you get to eat, the food isn't terrible by any means but it is nothing special.

I was in Colchester shopping with a friend. After a while of shopping we both felt somewhat hungry and decided to head for Bills for lunch, I had eaten a breakfast there before and which I really enjoyed and so was keen to try their lunches/meals. Me and my friend were greeted by a friendly waitress on arrival who seated us on a table in the window. We both ordered the buttermilk chicken burgers which we both thoroughly enjoyed and recommend. I will be back maybe for another breakfast or for lunch!

The buttermilk pancakes were delicious. Friendly and efficient service with no waiting despite it being busy mid-morning. Also very pleasant decor in old building.

We had a delicious meal here. The choice was excellent and we were very grateful for the help given to four members of the family with special dietary needs. Very good, caring service.

Popped in here for a spot of lunch recently. Good choice of food, well priced set price menu and nice ambiance. Food is nice and well prepared. Reasonably priced and would have earned an extra star if not for the annoyance of getting an 'optional' 10% service charge added automatically to the bill, meaning it is difficult to ask for that to be removed. Would prefer to add something for the service myself than feel obliged to pay for it. Having said that, the service was good!

Saturday lunch came with my Family, atmosphere was ok, portion sizes a bit small, but "Soooo slow" both for the initial course and each of the courses took a long time to arrive.

Had a lovely breakfast at Bill's, was going in for pancakes and bacon but ended up with the garden breakfast...it was lovely and really filling. Staff are always friendly and helpful and have smiles on their faces... Nothing is too much...will be back!!

On Tuesday we went for dinner. The staff were really attentive and started us off with a free birthday bottle of prosecco! The food was really lovely my husband had the sea bass and I had the thai curry, both were delicious.We were lucky enough to bump into the chef Stan who had cooked both meals so we could praise him. Got a candle in my pud with Happy Birthday sung to me as well as a gift. Would like to thank Kayleigh and Saffron for a lovely evening, we will be back!!! Sue and Mick x

Worth a visit, for a nice evening meal, lovely interior and perfect date atmosphere. Seas bass was perfect, my chicken skewers a bit burnt tasting and genuinly an average meal.. pick a burger or fish next time

lovely to relax after a busy work and pre theatre. The food was delicious and wholesome. I had a salad bowl which was a vegan dish and I added chicken on skewer which was tasty and satisfying. Would recommend the restaurant definitely. Lovely atmosphere.

We popped in to Bill’s for a quick lunch whilst in town (we haven’t been back here in at least a year) and the staff couldn’t have been nicer or more attentive. They seated us immediately when we came in and the atmosphere was just really welcoming and chill. We were comfortable and as lunch out is a rare treat between our work patterns, this was a nice meal. Food was great - full of flavour, great presentation and tasted amazing. I ordered dishes I’d never normally order to be more adventurous and both the Rosemary Pea Hummus Sourdough and Fish Pie were melt in the mouth fantastic. This came with a recommended portion of steamed Asparagus and Spinach and my other half loved the Chicken Dumplings and Steak she ordered. Kayleigh our server was very polite, friendly and professional and couldn’t have done more to make sure we were okay. 10/10 all around.

Very nice birthday celebration with friends here. Food was very good, especially fish pie. Everyone was happy with their choices.Nice cocktails and fantastic staff, attentive but not pushy.So friendly and gave us a little wrapped up package of sweets as birthday gift. It’s a touch pricey for drinks but nice surroundings, and worth it for a celebration.

Food was decent surroundings original and amusing but what really marks this place out was the keenness of the staff especially Sophja who made us feel at home and looked after us well.

Recently a booked a stag party at bills Colchester for lunch, the lovely receptionist was very polite and allowed us to be on the top floor party room so we didn’t disturb the other customers.

My daughter and I came across this establishment while out shopping in Colchester for the day. Had the choice to sit outside or inside. We received a lovely warm welcome by the waitress and shown our to our table inside the restaurant which had lovely exposed beams and had a lot of history. As the day was quite warm, I decided to have a Watermelon Cooler which was so delicious and my daughter had a pink lemonade. For lunch I had Eggs Benedict and my daughter had chips (she's not very adventurous but we're working on that!). The restaurant had a lovely vibe and atmosphere and the prices were very reasonable. We loved it so much that we're bringing my husband for a meal there during the summer holidays. Highly recommended.

My partner and I decided to try a different restaurant in town, and we stumbled upon Bills! Great food, a lovely candlelit dinner and atmosphere. Our waitress Kayleigh made us feel very welcome and addressed any needs that cropped up. She was fantastic tonight, so thank you again! Highly recommend Bill’s, and especially it’s Halloumi Burger Main!

Amazing experience from start to finish and could not rate highly enough. Sofya our waitress made the night memorable putting together the finishing touches on every stage of the meal and I cannot thank her enough. Gorgeous atmosphere and a very welcoming and warm staff team. Thank you Sofya for such an incredible evening and we will certainly be back for more!

I couldn't imagine a better place for this special evening, our waitress (Sofya) was waiting for us on the door, she made us feel very welcome. The dishes were excellent and the desserts were delicious😀

My husband and I had a nice meal. There was a range of different ages, which made a great atmosphere, there was even a little boy about 2 who relished in the attention everyone was giving him. The service was superb.

Went to Bill’s Saturday just gone with 3 friends. Cocktails were amazing, as was the waiting staff. Barbara was our waitress for the evening and was very very friendly and polite making jokes with us too. On arrival we were asked straight away about any allergies or intolerances. Food was amazing too. Everything fresh and tasty. Best Green Thai curry I’ve had. Shared a chocolate praline sphere for desert too which was incredible. Highly recommend Bill’s to anyone and everyone. All in all a great night!

1st time visit. Before seating was asked if I had any allergies. Food good, desserts on the pricey side. Service very good, pleasant attentive staff. Wide range of customewrs from young couple who just looked at each other to group of 6 middle aged guys. Not sure what their target market is. Downside was the imposition of a service charge. It was probably on the menu, but I didn't notice it, and I could have refused but that would have churlish.

Very disappointed with our last few visits to the Bills chain. The last time being Colchester High Street.

This cafe is full of character, the building is very old & the features are display. It is very busy & we had to book & return later for a table. The staff are lovely, very helpful & happy smiling people. A good breakfast menu, the food was excellent , all fresh produce, haven't seen an orange yoke egg in ages. A1 for the cup of coffee. very tasty.will definitely go back when in the area.

This modern bistro style eatery has an interesting all day menu that should be able to satisfy most palates. Our different chicken dishes were full of flavour and filling. Service is fast and smiley.

Tasty food, reasonably priced and friendly, smiley and attentive servers. I sat outside this morning with my friend and particularly enjoyed the English breakfast served and the freshly ground coffee. I will be returning!

We came in for breakfast today and was amazed by how good the food was! We were welcomed straight away and our waitress (Rebecca) was so attentive and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants good food, friendly staff and great atmosphere! 10/10.

I like the food here and a great smoothie. The setting in Colchester is perfect for sitting outside and enjoying a latte.

12 of us had an evening meal and chose various options from the menu. All were good as was the service. A few vegetarian and vegan options. Brownie dessert was nice. It was a bit hard to hear across a large table due to the music. Nice decor as you’d expect with this chain.

I and my colleague had a fantastic breakfast at Bill's in Colchester! :D We decided to try a few things we'd never tried before, so I went with the Bill's Breakfast whilst my colleague had the Eggs Benedict. They were both brilliant and the service was top notch! I'd highly recommend them!

We came in here on a very cold March night, on a Monday when any places are not open. We were welcomed like old friends even though we had never eaten there before, and made extremely welcome. Although we are not vegan, our friends are, so we ate keeping their views in mind. It was so very good, it was almost enough to make us turn vegan immediately. Haloumi burger for me, black bean chilli, there was a Bill's Wellington involved, some fabulous desserts and two bottles of good wine. Next time we are in the UK we will be back.

Thought I would try this restaurant for breakfast. Looked ok on the web although not cheap but hoped it would be worth it. WRONG. Very much liked the ambiance of the place and I must admit the staff were very efficient and polite. We both had a cooked breakfast starting with breakfast tea. The tea had no flavour what so ever, we asked for a second tea bag which was supplied without question but made little difference to the tea what so ever. The tea pot would also benefit from a proper clean on the outside, just hope it was clean within. The meal well, tinned mushrooms not impressed crispy bacon well many prefer this and a quality Cumberland sausage was the best bit. But what really got us was the giant cobwebs above our table in the corner (we were sat by the window near the till at the front. It was thick and black and 2 hands wide. I took a picture but decided not to post it. I understand why some will eat here but we won't be returning there is so many better places in Colchester.

Food was absoloutly fine but I feel the service could be a bit better and it would make this place great

Came here for lunch this Tuesday, the staff were very friendly and warming. They recommended the Thai green curry to myself and my friend had the chicken and wow a fabulous meal, good price with a glass of wine.

Have visited before for both breakfast and supper, but whilst the service remains good the food is nothing special and seems to me to be poor value for money

Visited for the first time recently with friends , Service was excellent, unlike my food which was really not nice and which tasted like a supermarket ready meal. Not impressed at all and would probably not go back

Breakfast is really good and tasty,little more expensive then average places but worth a try ...coffee is great

Came here for breakfast with a friend. Friends breakfast arrived first, mine got accidentally delivered to the wrong table and was left with someone else for 5 mins. That someone else advised the waitress and she delivered the food to be. I asked her if the food had been touched by that person, she said she wasn't sure. So I said I wanted a new one. So off they went to cook me a new breakfast whilst my friend sat and ate his. After he finishes his breakfast, mine arrived. A very over priced eggs and avocado smash. What a disappointing experience. The staff all seem to be standing around chatting and laughing all the time, very unprofessional. Probably the worst place in Colchester.
