Most Thursdays I travel to a different desi pub in and around the Black Country. It was the old Billas Bar that kicked off my passion for the excellent cooking that many desi pubs have to offer. About 2/3 years ago Billas bar changed their chef and the food went from 10/10 to 1/10 over night, it was at this point I discovered the amazing food at the desi yew tree down the road. I became quite a regular at the Yew Tree, probably visiting once a month or so, but about 4/5 months ago they also changed their chef and food has gone down hill massively. (In my opinion). Tonight I noticed that the Billas Bar kitchen was under new management, I wondered in and low and behold, it was the old chef from the Yew Tree. The food was amazing, couldn’t fault it. Don’t expect huge conversation from the chef, he lets his food do the talking. So happy to have discovered this, authentic punjabi cuisine at its best. Highly recommend the keema curry but all food was first class. If you enjoy your desi pubs, I urge you to make your way to Billas Bar.

Went a while back, excellent food. Returned yesterday, the food is now average at best. Not sure if the chef has changed but the menu had, all the meat in the mixed grill was on the bone, with no kebab either. There's probably a reason the food area was empty? The bar is good though, good choice of beer and good atmosphere

Went there after finding a NET review saying it was Wolvo's best kept secret in Asian BBQ food The Chef looked after us and nothing was a chore for him, must start with a MEGA mixed grill enough for 4 adults, the ladies had the Large and that was enough for them. Followed by Curry Nan Chips and rices all cooked fresh and was divine 8 adults in total £88 bill not including drinks Highly recommend, its the Old Ship and Rainbow

Billa's Bar must be Wolverhampton's best kept secret when it comes to Indian cooking. Hidden in the back of a large, Dudley Road pub, it offers food of outstanding quality. It's all fresh, incredibly tasty and unbelievably good value for money. It has no pretences to posh décor. In fact, it is very basic, but it is just excellent, honest Indian cooking at a bargain price. For example, a small Indian mixed grill (it was actually huge) made up of chicken tikka, shish kebabs, chicken wings and lamb chops with chilli and mint yogurt dips plus 3 substantial main course dishes plus 2 fresh nan. The whole lot - £26! Unbelievable! This has to be not only the best Indian food in the town but also the best value for money. Just try it.

The food here is lovely service is always with a smile and ever seems too much trouble for them. Never have I had a bad meal always tasty and just how we like it and for a fussy adult in the party they must be doing something right as they never complain It nice to see that the staff have a bit of banter with the customers gives me that homely feeling

I used to use this takeaway after the Bantock Balti closed and it was just about OK but no great shakes. Went in tonight and ordered a Tikka MAIN and some pappadums. Came to nearly a tenner. Got home and opened lid and there were 8 TINY pieces of chichen. Phoned to say they had given me a starter, but they said no the amount was correct!! Told them I'll NEVER be back again. Wasn't even tasty and pops were not fresh. Absolute RIP OFF. You have been warned!!
