Love the vibe and feel of Betty and George. Charmingly laid back, welcoming for people and dogs too. A local and friendly place with healthy salads and lots more sugary treats and things that are scrumptious. Lovely selection of soups and sandwiches. I'd love to have a weekly "special" take-away sandwich so there's a wee change now and again for that take-away experience!

Stumbled across this little cafe on a walk across Edinburgh on Friday. Lovely atmosphere and the food was delicious. We both had a croissant with bacon, avocado and chilli jam. My iced mocha was amazing!! Really nice atmosphere, cute decor and the staff were lovely!! Definitely worth a visit!!

I have been here a few times since it opened a couple of years ago and have never had a bad experience. Staff are always exceptionally friendly and the food is brilliant. One of the best breakfasts I’ve had in Edinburgh and her home baking is sublime. The pear and salted caramel blonde is worth visiting for alone!

Voor ons bezoek aan de botanische tuin van Edinburgh hier een pot thee en een scone met boter en jam genomen. Scone was fors van omvang en heerlijk, aanrader.

Lovely, friendly café with a great atmosphere. There’s a wide selection of savoury and sweet options; my smashed avocado on sourdough was delicious and a perfect hangover cure! I will go back.

Went yesterday with my 6 month old grandaughter in her pram . Place not exceptionally busy but thought initially they thought not enough room for pram. However we got sorted. Good selection of scones (better than most in Edinburgh ) ,good coffee and increasingly friendly service . Would return. Much better than Botanic Garden options.

The perfect breakfast spot in Edinburgh! The atmosphere is cozy with mixed seating- cushioned benches, wooden chairs, round and rectangular tables. Large windows sound making for a bright a cheerful space. Breakfast for four included: croissant with bacon and fried eggs, potato scone (potato flatbread), pancakes and bacon w/maple syrup, date & walnut scone with butter and cream, chocolate-caramel brownie tray bake, and sourdough smashed avocado toast with salmon. Baked goods were fresh — so many choices. Absolutely scrumptious all around!! Drinks ranged from hot chocolate to coffee. Service was helpful and welcoming. What a delight for a Sunday breakfast! Will return regularly!

The food was tasty & the cafe is a nice wee cozy spot! The staff however didn’t crack a smile the whole time we were there. One staff member was particularly miserable & didn’t seem interested in interacting with either customers or staff, everyone seemed to be bothering her as she snapped & was very abrupt. We didn’t get any greetings or goodbyes & were nervous to ask her for anything. Her mood seemed to be affecting everyone making other staff pretty miserable too. Maybe just having an off day - besides the staff it was nice!

Our first meal out on an epic 2-week stay, our first time to Scotland. Welcoming, friendly, funny server, delicious introduction to traditional Scottish fare, entirely unhurried. We made a point to look for more out-of-the way places for authentic experiences; Betty & George was a perfect spot for a start, enjoyable from start to finish. Thanks so much!

From the moment we walked in we realised that this is a gem in Edinburgh Sunday breakfasts. There were a lot of regulars enjoying restful breakfasts when we visited. Our party of four was only kept waiting very briefly while a table was prepared and we proceeded to order. Betty took our order and was clearly keeping multiple plates spinning with great humour and efficiency. She mentioned a longer than usual delay due to the number of orders at that time. I have to say we didn’t notice any delay whatsoever. Coffee was truly at a high standard- cream was good on espresso and flat white creamy and intense. The food was just 10/10 superb- I had full Scottish breakfast- sausages epic, eggs poached perfectly and mushrooms beyond the norm- everything our party had was excellent. Mention of the toast- not your ordinary toast - a wonderful textured crunchy special loaf- and I don’t usually take toast! One of our must do visits next time in Edinburgh- the chat we had with Betty when leaving revealed a kindness and passion that is evidenced in the love put into the food and standard of service. Thanks so much- you really made our Sunday morning special!

My partner and I have been here before for a lovely big breakfast, so we decided to try lunch. So glad we did. We both had a cheese toastie , I had mine with mustard o on it, partner had his with cheese.....bread sourdough...delicious! I also have the broccoli with blue cheese, once again delicious, just the right amount of seasoning, and incredibly creamy. We both had hot chocolate which was in a very big mug. I usually struggle with this but it was so nice I drank it all. Staff were very polite, welcoming and smiley. Waiting time for food was acceptable, nice and clean all round. And it is dog friendly which is a bonus in my book and I've not even got a dog :)

Stopped for coffee and a scone. I am quite fussy about scones and can safely say the cherry scone was simply divine. I asked if they were homemade and was told that the lady comes in at 05.30 to bake them. Ten out of ten, absolutely delicious. My husband had a cheese scone, pesto and butter, again he said it wad really tasty. Our coffees were good too. Staff and surroundings very nice. What a little gem of a cafe.
