Lovely decor, amazing concept, very welcoming volunteers/staff. Very inclusive. Lots of community activities. Support for people who are suffering difficulties, whether that be mentally, physically or financially. Also run a 'pay it forward' system. Dog friendly, easy wheelchair accessibility, with a carpark directly opposite. Also caters for various dietary requirements, if they haven't got what you need they go and get it. Wonderful addition to Ventnor.

Went here to a private wake for a local person. The food was excellent and the staff so very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Such a lovely little venue and beautifully spotless. I will be visiting again when I return in the summer.

Recommended by a friend to try daily soup, there were a few choices. The friendly staff offered that we could have a cup of each, spicey parsnip, and cauliflower with garlic. They were very tasty and included brown bread and butter. Great cause makes it even better.

We stopped here for lunch. The staff were friendly. The food was remarkably cheap-£4 for a sandwich and side salad. I didn’t realise until I spoke to another customer that this is a community café providing very reasonably priced food and. Is staffed by people with disabilities and/or learning difficulties. There was a brilliant choice of food. The sandwiches were made to order and were very tasty. There is the option to “pay forward” a meal so that the cafe can provide food for those who can’t afford it. The cafe was spotlessly clean. If I’m ever in Ventnor again I’d definitely have lunch here again

Really warm, welcoming cafe with friendly volunteer staff inspired by manager Kirsty providing a genuine home from home - maybe the first genuine, loving home atmosphere for some patrons. All are made very welcome. Food is simple homely fare, tasty, freshly made/baked soup, sandwiches, cakes, in a setting which feels like a French bistro. Those who cannot afford to pay can ask for a house special, no questions asked, no judgement made, no embarrassment experienced, their meal on the house. No council or government funding, Kirsty works hard to attract donations of ingredients to provide these free meals for those who need them, including kids' breakfast and lunches during school holidays and the Caffè has won awards from those in positions to judge the genuineness of this provision. Yet all done in such a humble, genuinely compassionate and inclusive manner and in a way that feels like a great little bistro to visit with friends for coffee or a lunch. An amazing asset to Ventnor. The vegetarian sausage roll I had was so delicious I bought more to take away!!

The better days cafe goes above and beyond for the community. The food is delicious and my 5 year old would 100% recommend the delicious milkshakes! They serve oat milk and other options too, which is fantastic for my toddler who is dairy intolerant. Kirsty and her team of wonderful volunteers are so passionate about helping people, and if anyone’s in trouble, Kirsty is there to either solve any problem she can or signpost you to someone that can if it’s not possible. 1000% recommend.

Better days cafe is a saving grace to a lot of people. People who need emotional support, benefit advice, signposting.. to name just a few! They are feeding children for free through the school holidays. There is a pay it forward system for people who can't afford to eat, ask for house special, no questions asked. The cafe not only helps the public but it helps all of its volunteers. Can not recommend it enough. Go give it a visit and see for yourself 😊

We stumbled across this amazing place whilst staying in Ventnor and going to the IOW festival. Lovely, helpful and supportive staff, who couldn't do more for us. Great atmosphere and food. Bounty milkshake was fab. It was evident that its an important community hub and meeting place for all to enjoy. Paying it forward for someone was an added bonus. Great to be able to do that and we'll definitely be back. X

Really enjoyed visiting this bohemian chic cafe yesterday. Ventnor excels for friendly and welcoming hospitality but even by Ventnor standards the warm welcome at this venue stood out. The cafe has a social purpose beyond profit, which is great to know, and the prices are definitely lower than those you would expect on a High Street. I noticed a discrete chalkboard inviting customers to ask for the 'house special' if they are low on funds and there is a donation box on the counter to collect donations to pay forwards a cup of coffee etc. An important initiative that would be good to see more widely on the Island. The eclectic fabulousness of the interior design means it feels more artist led than community project. I loved the 'chess lounge' but unfortunately didn't have time to beat my boyfriend at a game before we had to go watch the carnival. This is a fabulous venue and will be a must visit for me on future trips to Ventnor. Highly recommended.

LOVE this place! Wonderful people, very cool styling and of course the food and drink! Baked potato straight from oven, tuna mayo and local tomatoes and cucumber that had been dropped off that morning - was perfect. This is simply a great cafe, that also delivers social benefit. Well done Better Days Cafe and all that work here, very impressed.

If your looking for a extremely friendly Cafe in Ventnor with a unique style, happy atmosphere whilst wanting to help the local community, you will be pleased going here for your morning coffee. Staff all have such a unique personality and clearly love what they do. Its right opposite a car park and only a 4 min walk from the beach. They breakfast and soon a fresh salad bar also. It's always busy with fresh faces and always make a brilliant good latte.

I love it here! Such a lovely concept where people who have been unemployed for s long time or have mental health problems etc are recruited as staff. It has a lush homely cosy feel. I had a Broccoli and Stilton soup which was delicious and very reasonable at £3.50. There’s a function room in the bank for hire and a fire vintage fashion shop with an impressive ball gown collection.

Being a local I did not stay at the hotel but I thought I'd try the food as eating out in Newport is limited to say the least (unless you like pizza/pasta, there are at least 4 of these). I fancied traditional pub food which today is a scarce as all the pubs seem to be in the Gordon Ramsey mode, posh food, very little of it and expensive. The Wheatsheaf’s menu included real pub classics including Steak and Ale pie, Pork Belly, Steak and Chips, Lamb Shank to name a few. For starter’s I opted for the chilli prawns, a generous portion, cooked perfect and presented shell off which saves all that peeling and messy fingers! Starters are all priced at £5.00. I followed this with a perfectly cooked 8oz sirloin steak (med-rare) with lovely crispy chips and a blue cheese sauce accompanied by a nice crisp fresh salad, (which was not just a bowl of leaves like in most places). Although the chips were frozen they were crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, perfect, I almost mistook them for the latest fad (3 times cooked chips). The chef must have a trick up his sleeve. The steak was cooked perfect. A field mushroom would have been a nice touch. Here's the good bit, all main dishes are only £10, if you fancy steak you do pay a £4.00 supplement which is fair. Even though I was stuffed I could not resist the homemade Rhubarb Crumble with cream. I managed to eat ¾ of it. Again, all the desserts were priced at £5.00. All I can say is although this pub has had a bad reputation for food in the past this is certainly not the case now, it’s really worth giving it a try.
