Although the initial impression of the hotel was positive, with its attractive wisteria-covered courtyard and elegant entrance lobby, my overall experience was unfortunately disappointing. The four-poster suite I stayed in was regrettably one of the most unclean rooms I have encountered. The linens had a stale odor, the wallpaper was peeling, the taps were loose, the windows were dirty and had cracked panes, and the smoke alarm in the hallway was missing. I understand that there was significant maintenance work being done during my stay; however, the drilling starting at 7:55 AM was an unwelcome surprise. Additionally, I did not dine in the restaurant as the front-of-house area appeared unclean, leading me to assume that the kitchen might be similar. Therefore, I cannot comment on the quality of the food. On a positive note, the staff members were all very friendly.

Located in the centre of the city. Our room was quite good but a lot of walking to get there. There is a small car park but they charge £20 per day! Should be included in the price

A great hotel in the centre of Salisbury. Fantastic old coaching house with a really cool central courtyard. Finding your room can sometimes be a maze but that's the nature of the old building

Lovely hotel in a great location. Beautiful courtyard and seating area. Our room was spacious and clean. Unfortunately it was on top of the car park so deliveries and laundry trollies were quite loud early in the morning but cannot be helped. Breakfast was delicious and staff were friendly and helpful.

Booked the Red Lion for our office christmas party, would'nt book here again sadly.....the food took far too long between courses, although the food was nice. There was only one person working on the bar which is madness when you have at least four other christmas parties in the same room. Rooms were nice. Staff were not very friendly.

Stayed here twice and not again. Service is very bad and it seems such an effort to get a drink from bar. Looking at the other reviews I'm not the only one saying the same. Shame as it's a lovely hotel in a good location. The breakfast is to a very low standard and not worth the money.

I don't know where to start. We had a terrible stay here. IN NO WAY IS THIS A FOUR STAR HOTEL. Room was TERRIBLE. Extremely outdated, and not clean. I understand that this is supposed to be in a historic building and other reviewers have referenced its charm. And it IS lovely from the outside. However, the fact is that most rooms are in extensions of the original inn, with poor 20th century construction. Ours had already been "remodeled" and it felt like a gross freshers dorm. Lighting was horrible, heating was weird. Couldn't get hot water for a shower, it only got lukewarm. Noise - our room was right across the street from a noisy bar. I see that others have commented on this as well and the hotel owners are keen to blame the bar owners. Ok, sure, but - they have done NOTHING to insulate these rooms from noise. The windows are clearly the cheapest ones they could get, and they're drafty, so you know sound goes right through them. Doors and walls are also thin. Service - depended entirely on the day and person. It was obvious from the moment we walked in that they were drastically understaffed. Some guy was using a gas-powered leaf blower at 8am in the courtyard, presumably to remove the THREE LEAVES that were around. Zero awareness of the racket he was making or that a broom would have worked. Breakfast - mediocre. Better options around. Location - pretty good. Accessibility - bad, upper floors inaccessible. Elevator didn't work and the stairs are steep. I will never stay at this hotel again.

Fantastic food and top-notch service! The chef was excellent, perfectly preparing requested Asian-style dishes with incredible attention to detail. Every meal was of outstanding quality, super tasty, and beautifully presented. Highly recommend for anyone who values exceptional food and service!

We visited the Red Lion today for the first time in around 5 years, whilst Christmas shopping in Salisbury. I would say that it is going to be at least another 5 years until we go back. We went in for a drink and lunch, only to be told that after ordering drinks, that no food was being served because of Christmas parties. There was not any signage to tell you this when entering the establishment, which left several others also being turned away. It is a bloody hotel, so why couldn’t you at least have a basic lunch menu on offered. Or at least, put up a sign on the main entrance to this fact. No wonder we were the only ones in the bar on a busy Friday. Come on, give some hospitality, you are a hotel!!!!!!!

The best city location in Salisbury, friendly welcoming staff and a really characterful quirky old building which makes for a proper medieval Salisbury experience. Maybe a little cleaning or maintinance needed, but you should expect it from and 800 year old building. If you are fussy and like a bland, generic hotel, book the premier inn down the road. If you want to stay in a unique place with character, book the Red Lion. Please never change your decor, Red lion. Thanks for the great stay.

Great hotel In the middle of Salisbury. Staff all friendly and polite. Room we had was clean and comfortable. Granted the hotel is old, so perhaps lower your expectations to a crisp cut environment. And embrace old world charm. Would definitely stay here again

Some of the lovely staff here are indispensable. Aaron on reception, Valentino, Rhys and Daniel all made the experience wonderful and provided great customer service. The atmosphere and the food were great too and it all came together very well in hosting such a special event for my friends.

Room was clean but dated took a long time to get hot water coming through the taps, ended in a cold shave and the rash to follow. The corridor to the room smelt of damp and sewage. The staff are lovely though and breakfast is to order. My scrambled egg was lovely. Can't fault the location. Would I book here again 🤔 probably not as I didn't sleep well as there was a jolting under the floor boards which rocked my bed in totally the wrong way.

I booked the best room at the hotel as me and my wife never get an evening away from the kids. Most of the staff were not great, we were glared at as we went in for breakfast. The breakfast was pretty poor, grey hash browns, everything barely warm and my wifes scrambled egg looked inedible so she left most of her breakfast. Not great considering we were charged £16.99 each. Honestly would never go back. I paid well over £200 for 1 night. Looking at previous reviews it would seem that management are not taking the same reoccurring complaints seriously.

On our 2nd night of my stay here. We are awake yet again in 00.43 due to the loud and pounding live music coming from across the road from a pub and live music venue called the RUDE GIANT. Booked a superior king room due for my partners birthday we where not expecting to be laying awake at this time of the morning. We were made away of this and certainly would not stay here again. Room was in need of made of modernising and not like the picture shows. Basic Breakfast we paid was mediocre and all the extras like eggs Benedict came at an extra charge. Only plus this hotel was 5 min walk from Catherdral, will look for alternatives for future visits.Rob and Nic

We had afternoon tea at the hotel and we really liked it. The atmosphere and furniture is Victorian and the garden is beautiful. The afternoon tea sandwiches are very varied and so are the sweets, much more than in some luxury hotels in London. The attention of the employees is attentive and super friendly. It is wonderful to have afternoon tea at the REd Lion hotel before visiting Stonehenge.

Had our third afternoon tea on Saturday 5 Oct 24, at The RedcLion in Salisbury.......brilliant! The sandwiches were very fresh and super tasty, the scones were still warm and delicious, the mini cake plate beat us!!! Awesome selection of mini cakes but to much (a first world problem!). We must mention Angel, who was the most perfect waitress and gave a great explanation of the history of The Red Lion. Thank you, awesome job. We will be back.

We had our wonderful wedding with you on 10.08.2024. Thank you for making us feel so relaxed in the day the staff were amazingly helpful and the organisation was fantastic. Everyone enjoyed the food on the day which was my important thing on the day. The evening buffet was also delicious so thank you to the chefs and all the staff that helped on the day. Our accommodation was perfect, we chose to stay two nights and a lot of our guests also stayed with you. The breakfast that was included was also really good which were able to eat outside the day after the wedding with our wedding guests who stayed with us. Thank you again and we will be back for sure. EDIT: The property has sent me a full refund for both rooms. __________ Look at my pictures, they speak for themselves. The pictures on the website DO NOT reflect the reality. This hotel needs to be closed for serious refurbishment work. Some rooms have been partially updated very poorly, and the rooms (most of them) that haven't are DIABOLICAL. My room was one of the "refurbished" ones, but the shower operation system was still at least 40 years old, as well as the tap and radiator. Simply unpleasant. The view from my room was a pigeons' poo-soiled back roof, and I heard pigeons cooing all night. The Wi-Fi was not working in the rooms. The worst part, however, was my parents' room. I complained to the reception immediately upon seeing their room. They said they were unable to change their room because the hotel was fully booked. However, rooms were still available to book online, and the breakfast room was almost empty in the morning. The bathroom of my parents' room clearly hadn't been changed since the 70s, and the room itself was filthy. Bedside lamps didn't even have light bulbs (I asked reception to replace those, but they never did). The TV was half hanging off the wall. The tiles in the shower were flaking off the wall. There was a wood plank holding the ceiling above the broken wardrobe, likely to hide water damage. The wallpaper was coming off the wall. The corridors and stairs are death traps; the floors aren't straight, and the carpet is a horrid, soiled germ trap. There isn't enough space here for me to describe how much of a DISGRACE this hotel is. Breakfast was pathetic too. I paid over £140 a night per room for this APPALLING place. Shame on you Best Western! AVOID AT ALL COST.

Ended up walking out of the restaurant as we were totally ignored after 20 minutes and the restaurant wasnt busy at all awful service. We then spoke to the hotel receptionist and staff really didn't seem to care less. Wifi barely works and you end up having to turn it off. Tv was 20 years old and didn't work Don't ever stay in room 17 or 18 because the slaming security door will continually wake you up!

The staff really seem to need better training. I asked a basic question, and the first person I approached didn’t know the answer and just told me to find someone else. I asked another staff member the same question, and again, they had no idea. No one was helpful. On top of that, the staff at the tills move extremely slow — even when it’s very busy. I’m not sure what kind of hiring or training practices are in place, but the store feels chaotic and poorly managed, especially during peak hours.

Solid food and drink and not too expensive given you're a captive market. Good chips and decent portions for the kids meals. Plenty of seating and service is really quick even though it was very busy. Also clean and tidy with good facilities and plenty of staff to keep tables turning over during busy periods. You can't fault Longleat for skimping on staff that's for sure.

Stayed here before an Al,heifers Trek. Service in "Restaurant " was abysmal. Main house took 15 mins to arrive. Dessert never arrived so I left after 20 minutes waiting. No urgency to serve ordered food. Two young waiting staff did their best but the lack of supervision was evident. Went to a near by M&S food store to get a Dessert. Poor service. Best to avoid the Restaurant.
