We had a very pleasant stay. Food was nice, staff were lovely and the room and dining areas were clean, decor does need updating but was in good repair. Lovely bit of greenery around the hotel and a nice bit to sit outside while eating. It is on the slightly pricier side for dinner but worth it.

We stopped by to use the pool and it was absolutely filthy!!! The floors are covered in dirt and used band aids. Rubbish bins have no proper lids so used wet nappies are lying in the open. Toilets are stinking. Facilities really need a good clean and upgrading.

What a quaint oldie worldly hotel massive bedrooms but only a small telly LOL The staff will really receptive and helpful in every way lovely swimming pool that was never overcrowded My only complaints would be the signage as it took us nearly half an hour on arrival in the evening to work out which was the door to the reception as there was no signage at all. But other than that will definitely be visiting again and looking forward to staying in the haunted room lol thanks for a great stay!

Extremely outdated swimming facilities are filthy and looks like they don't get cleaned very often .front staff are polite but unfortunately they don't sell coffee after 10.30/11until much later in day which is strange practice.

This hotel could do with updating its dated in all areas and must be very difficult for staff to stay on top of making it look reasonable. Walls are made of cardboard and i had to check if there was actual glass in the window and not clingfilm as you can hear other residents and every sing vehicle that drives past. Staff are all friendly and very helpful. It's would be really annoying the restaurant not opening until 18.30 if the food was even half decent. Trust me skip breakfast, go out for dinner else where and don't waste your money! Best western probably not allowing chefs to buy in better ingredients.

Just spent a night here. My room was clean and very spacious, Hunters Chicken in the evening was on point, and it was nice to see salmon and scrambled eggs on breakfast menu. Will come back here next year for work for sure.

I recently visited a swimming pool that left me feeling really frustrated. Even though I was the right age to swim, I was turned away by a staff member about it. It was really disappointing. The pool itself looked great, and I had planned tohave fun. However, the way I was treated by the staff member really ruined the experience. He came off as a prick, lacking any understanding or empathy for guests just wanting to enjoy the facilities. Overall, I can't recommend this pool based on my experience. It’s important for staff to be friendly and accommodating, especially when it comes to guests wanting to use the amenities. I hope they can improve their customer service in the future.

Good place to stay if you're visiting Cheddar gorge, Stourhead, Longleat, etc. Shaftesbury itself is a charming little town with some nice sights and walks. The positives about Best Western are the comfortable rooms and the swimming pool. The staff are a bit cold (except the guy who sometimes sat at the reception) though not rude. Curiously, the restaurant doesn't serve any vegetarian mains for lunch and dinner (we checked twice) and when my wife asked if they can make a vegetarian dish upon request, the receptionist plainly said no, without trying to sound reconciliatory or apologetic. Whilst there's nothing to apologise for designing the menu as purely non-vegetarian, I think in these changing times and trends, Best Western are miscalculating by restricting their menu. Or they simply want to keep a certain type of clientele out. I can't tell.

Average hotel. We didn't sleep well due to noise after midnight. Only positive point is the location close to the city center.

This place needs a lot of money spent on it decor is drab Visited for a Sunday lunch carvery and quality of food was cheap and poor, quantity of meat was good but tasteless I am in my early 60s and out of 8 table's apart from a youngish couple I was the youngest to me that says it all on the appeal of this place

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. stayed for 2 nights with no hot water in the room i had to boil a kettle so i could wash, when this was reported to hotel staff they were aware and said they were looking in to it but didn't care and were very unfriendly and not willing to change rooms. The swimming pool was closed and families were arriving to use it and going away with very upset children. The hotel is rundown and not particularly clean. would not recommend staying there.

A short stay at this 3 star hotel. A building heaped in history. It is valued as a venue for business or weddings Many things that unfortunately let this hotel down and I have no understanding why a fund is not set aside to put things right. Example still using out dated pound coins to use in a poor locker system that should have been Updated years ago. Changing rooms small and little privacy Restaraunt furniture outdated poor but good service. Evening menu poor and put together by someone from the 1980's Very helpful reception staff as a positive. I had a pint of cider very cold and service ok but the bar was sticky and was not cleaned properly The room was dated but ok with an en-suite Overall 6/10

A lovely hotel however the rooms could do with renovation as the floor in my room wasn't level. Staff very friendly and the food was delicious

Went for a swim so can’t comment on rooms. We were nothing but polite and were met with a seriously miserable receptionist. Maybe she was having a bad day, maybe she didn’t want us there. We were made to feel the latter of the two. Grumpy receptionists aside, was not very impressed with the cleanliness of the swimming pool. We will now be moving our custom to rivers meet in Gillingham as our money clearly wasn’t wanted here

We could not have chosen anywhere better to hold a large family gathering to celebrate an important birthday. The rooms were excellent, the food splendid and all the staff so friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and already several members of the family who came, are asking for a repeat get-together next year at the same venue.

The bar and restaurant look a little dated, bedrooms have all you need and were clean and tidy. After a little booking error the manager and receptionist resolved the issue perfectly. All staff were pleasant and super helpful and our eveing meal was excellent, I highly recommend the pork belly bites. Pool was clean safe but the Sauna was not in service. A comfrotable and pleasant overnight stay with my wife and kids.

The Chase is a local hotel for me, they do a great Sunday carvery, I’ve been to a few functions there and the food and service is always excellent. It’s not a stuffy hotel, there is always a good atmosphere, it would be improved though if only they did a real ale in the bar. For guests that stay it is a great location, easy to get to on the A30 and Shaftesbury is a charming town, the home of Gold Hill.

Decided to try this as it’s under new ownership and within walking distance. I booked ahead for Sunday lunch at 1pm thinking it may be busy but the main bar was was completely empty. The staff greeted us warmly and were offered drinks which we decided to have at the table in the the restaurant away from the loud music. Obviously the staff were playing what they wanted rather than something suitable for the clientele. The restaurant only had one other couple dining, it was completely empty apart from us. The waitresses were very young, sweet and polite. After a considerable wait we were served our food. What a disappointment! The lamb wellington consisted of 3 slices of lamb with a thin layer of pastry around the outside, my Mothers 3 slices of pork looked nice and I have 2 slices of overcooked roast beef. The vegetables looked ok but were barely warm and and roast potatoes were yesterday’s and had chewy skins. Very disappointing which we pointed out to the waitress when she asked how our meal was when she cleared the table. I could hear the same comments from the other couple when they were asked the same question. We decided that we’d go home for our pudding rather than chance a repeat reheat of yesterday’s. Such a shame, we weren’t offered any explanation, but one only had to look around to see why the place was empty. My husband who doesn’t cook could have produced a better meal. It cost us £56 in total. We shan’t be returning and I don’t suppose the other diners will either. I took the meat home and there were no complaints from the dogs!

On our journey home from an overnight-stay in Bournemouth we decided to take a minor roads route back home rather than the direct main road route. This took us through quite a few small towns and villages. Our plan was to find a Farm Shop Café or a village / small town-centre café where we could get lunch: ideally a snack and a hot drink. We were over an hour into our journey when we saw the signs for Marcia’s Farm Shop and turned into what was a heavily pot-holed carpark. We then walked into the signposted barn noting that there was plenty of tables and chairs arranged in neat rows but no-one was sat there. There was another door into ‘The Shack’; inside was actually a full bar; like you would find in a pub. There were a few locals propping-up the bar, chatting and drinking draught beer. This is not what we had expected and we assumed that the ‘Marcia’s Farm Shop’ and ‘The Shack’ were one in the same business. There didn’t appear to be any farm produce on sale: other than, we assumed, the food offered in the menu. It was almost exactly 1pm when we were approached and welcomed by a pleasant lady. We asked about food, and she advised us to select a table and choose from the menu of snacks that were available, and that she would return to take our order. We studied the menu having ordered some tea and my Partner chose a fishfinger baguette, whereas I chose a toasted ham and cheese sourdough sandwich. The plates took a good 20-25 minutes to arrive from ordering, but freshly prepared food does take time. So, we sipped tea and amused ourselves with the help of a large (probably over-fed and under-exercised) old Labrador who constantly wandered and sniffed around the bar and seated areas. The dog then settled at our table once our food order arrived. This was not a serious issue for us (others however may dislike being ‘hounded’ by slobbering dogs while they eat their food). Both plates featured a colourful and tasty fresh dressed salad which was really good. My sandwich was really firm and crunchy with a generous helping of thick-cut ham and plenty of well-melted cheese, and a small portion of red cabbage coleslaw to go with the salad. It was really good and enjoyed. My Partner’s baguette featured homemade cod loin fishfingers and tartare sauce (both inside the baguette). The fish was a bit moist and insubstantial; despite being made from the loin. Cod can be like this and it is why we prefer the meatier haddock. The baguette also accompanied by a few crisps, but they were a really strange flavour for accompanying fish (reminded us of Oxo beef - but very artificial). Our food was on the whole good, generously portioned and very much welcomed, and it was good value.
