I ordered the Tandoori garlic chili chicken, which was delicious. Spicy though, be warned :p On the phone we mentioned we’d like a certain dish to be prepared vegan. Which in turn was executed well bij the restaurant. I’d recommend this place, definitely will be trying out more from their menu.

Great little restaurant. Excellent food, fast service and byo at no extra charge. The only downside was the phone ringing loudly and fairly constantly for takeaway orders.

Just had a takeaway meal from this restaurant. It was definitely a 10/10 meal. Very good food and friendly staff. My first but no way my last.

We ate here a couple of nights ago after it had been recommended by a local chap. 8.30 on a Tuesday night and the place was empty. Not put off by this we had a fantastic meal and I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant to anyone who loves Asian food. The young waiter was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. He explained the majority of their mid week business was takeaways, which I guess is par for the course. This would be a regular haunt if I lived locally.

Had a fantastic takeaway, the food tasted very good with lots of flavour. The staff were extremely polite and checked that everything was in the bag before handing it over. Definitely recommend.

So this is our local Indian, we have had several take aways and been here as a couple with no issues and can't fault the food. However go with more than 2 people and expect a ridiculous wait. from 6.05 to 7.45 we had poppadoms and the table next to us that were just a couple were waiting 45 mins and only had poppadoms. In the end I had no choice but to ask for the food to be in takeaway boxes. When recieved I went up to pay and my mum got told 'this is the 2nd time you have done this, we would rather give your table to someone else and the restaurant has been here longer than you and will be here a lot longer' we said 1.5 hours for poppadoms was ridiculous and the manager argued loudly across the restaurant that it was only an hour and didn't apologise at all. The couple next to us was horrified and said we should refuse to pay for the way we were spoken to, we didn't do this but we left feeling very angry and upset with how we were spoken to and wouldn't want to subject anyone to this service. Takeaway only unless you have 3 hours to spare.

We visited today for a family meal and arrived at 6:05, we then left at 7:50 after only having poppadoms which is an absolute joke. To then be insulted by a waiter saying its the 2nd time we have done this, well maybe if you got food out in time instead of prioritising take aways then it wouldn't happen! Food is great every time we have ate but service is shocking!

Awful awful awful….spent almost 1.5 hours waiting for food and we had no choice to get it as take out as had to go elsewhere. Then my wife was verbally abused by the staff in front of my children, not even an apology, just told us ‘we don’t care we will always be here’….we walked out in total shock…avoid at all costs, they were empty at 8pm on a Saturday night, you can see why!!! Please share as no one should feel they have the right to give verbal abuse!!!

Great menu, lots of choice, well prepared and well served food, my only criticism is that they don’t serve wine, you have to buy it from the local Tesco.

We visited the Restaurant on the 22/07/22. We were warmly greeted and seated at our table. When we were asked would we like starters we asked for 2 poppadoms. Having waited 20 minutes with the phone very loudly ringing 4 times and a flow of take away customers coming in and out. We were asked once more was it 2 poppadoms each in desperation we said yes. They reached in and brought them from a heated cabinet easy peasy so why the wait? We were asked for our main choice my husband ordered Chicken Koria I had Tandoori Chicken with Lemon Rice and Saag Aloo. Approximately 1 hour later we received the dishes. No salad was initially served with the Tandoori although as later offered. The Sagg Aloo was lovely but the Tandoori Chicken dry feedback was given. With no response. The Koria lacked flavour. But still the phone continued to ring. We are not from the area but like to support local business where we visit. The bill came as a shock we were charged £6.90 for 4 poppadoms which they said included chutneys and onion sambal. We did not receive mint dip with with tandoori chicken but this was brushed aside. Sadly not a good visit

Having previously not been enthusiastic about the food from Bengal Balti ,i have to admit l was wrong .The food l received was well cooked ,nicely presented and very tasty ! When l requested as little as possible salt they listened and my husband , who is particularly in -tolerant of salt ,was really happy . May l also comment on the lovely smiley faced young man who gave me my food - I have always been impressed by a welcoming smile for no extra cost , thank you . I now intend to visit and have a meal inside , as it looks so comfortable and friendly,

Visited for a takeaway one night this week and sadly was a really average meal. Mixed kebab starter was dry, ordered a butter chicken which was definitely just a korma and overall the flavouring was tasteless and lacked any seasoning throughout the meal. A real shame as this was the first evening of our holiday, reviews are somewhat half decent but coming from kent this Indian meal doesn’t have a touch on our local takeaways. If you like paying £25 for a meal you could cook yourself this then is the restaurant for you.

Despite being very busy at the time we went, the staff were still incredibly attentive, friendly, and helpful. The food was fantastic, and there was a good selection for Vegans and Vegetarians. The Vegetable Pathia was delicious and portion sizes great.

This is a lovely family run restaurant and takeaway. The food was delicious, one of the best Indians I have had. We sat in to eat and the staff were fantastic. They were very friendly and attentive. I would recommend this place.

Had a quick takeaway while staying in town, it was just a main course with a couple of sides to share, but taste was superb much better than my local where I live, service was prompt and on time, staff nice upon collection. We have to go back to Lydney again soon and will be returning.

Bengal balti is our go to place for curries when we decide to have a blow out. We tend to order a load of dishes once a quarter and have them delivered and then eat them over the course of the following weeks. As such we have tasted a full range of their dishes and they are all excellent and very tasty. Value isn’t bad either especially as they deliver free of charge on big orders. Their signature dishes such a akbari are very good. We have no criticism - the only thing that is less than perfect are the bhajis but that is only because they have head to travel to get to us. Not a fault of the restaurant more us in our lazy ways.

Freshly prepared tasty food, distinctive dishes and lovely staff. Always book a table as they are always busy, a sure good sign of a good restaurant....best Indian food in area.

Brilliant curry. The jalfrezi was simply the best I have ever tried (I’ve tried a few). Staff happy and helpful, Cobra was ice cold. All in all a very good experience and reasonably priced.

Stayed at Oatfield Farm cottages and this restaurant is 5 minutes away by car. We had a takeaway and it was delicious. Highly recommend. You can park in the local car park right behind it for 20p !

Good food with a nice choice on the menu. Very welcoming when entering the restaurant. Always used to like the onion bhajis but they do seem more like others now. Meal was nice and I asked for the curry to be spicier which they did.

Ranu and his staff provide the best curry in the south west. Yes I used to be a regular so the very warm welcome is not surprising. What is surprising is it tastes better than it used to.

We did enjoy our food. Seats were hard and a bit crunched up to sit comfirtably Staff helpfull and keen to care. Clean tables no tablecloth. Good for a quick meal for 6 of us to celebrate a birthday.

Situated midway up Hill Street, this curry house offers a huge choice at reasonable prices. It was well patronised when we called on spec in midweek. My only complaint, if that's the word, is that my main chicken dish was so amply endowed with red chillies that it kept me going in more senses than one for some time afterwards! We have yet to try the other nearby balti restaurant but would happily visit the Bengal Balti again.

Stayed at Whitemead, and we really wanted an Indian takeaway so we called Bengal Baltic who kindly delivered to our campsite and waited at reception for us to collect. Top marks all round lovely man who delivered and the food was hot and absolutely delicious thank you Bengal balti

We are new to the area and absolutely love Bengal Balti, it has never disappointed us we would definitely recommend.

The naans and bombay aloo were good and saved the day. The coke was flat, despite asking them to change. Most other curries, including palak paneer were far too sweet and creamy. The owner was friendly and Value for money. Not authentic indian if that's what you are looking for.

Visited here on spur of the moment when visiting family. When we first arrived we were welcomed, although we did feel a little rushed to order the food made up for it. Very tasty and good quality food. Will visit again.

Being vegetarian it's difficult for me and my partner to eat out anywhere, and curries are normally just as hard to do, with their obscure "vegetable curry" choices... but Bengal Balti is brilliant, with a great selection of specific vegetable curries (the baked aubergine & Bombay aloo being our favourites), we them also had a veggy dansak which went beautifully with the coconut & veggy rices we had with it.

We have had a couple of take aways from here. Really good curry and probably the best takeaway curry we have had in gloucestershire. Food always ready when have arrived to collect. Highly recommend.

We haven't had a meal inside the restaurant but the takeaway we had last weekend was absolutely faultless. I had a chicken pathia which was delicious. They make the tarka dall just as we like it - thicker rather than soup-like. It was so good we will definitely go for a sit down meal soon. I would definitely reccommend asking them to put an egg in your curry. When I've had this before it is normally a boiled egg but this time it was like a square poached egg - so good!

Visit regularly and never had a bad meal. Service good and polite. Been visiting for over 20 years, both eat in and take away.

Have had many nice take away in the past, though they can be hit or miss. Went for a sit down in June the food tasted awful and the reason can't test their while cooking because of Ramadan.

I was looking for a place where to celebrate my 20th birthday, and I was thinking why not in a indian restaurant, ( I love indian Food) and I was been before and was really nice, as well verry nice Staff and not to expensive.

El personal era muy agradable y el menú era muy variada. Me decidí a probar algo nuevo para mí (ME) pero un aventurero con el camarero me registré el calor que hacía y dijo que podían hacer por mí era leve como yo quería. Por lo tanto pedí el plato con cordero. Llegó Poppadoms y realmente disfrutamos de la mezcla de la bandeja chutney Cuando llegó la hora de plato principal, la mía estaba tan caliente que no pude terminar! Además, fue hecho con pollo, no de cordero, pero no el punto en que indiquen como no podía comer de todas formas! El naan de ajo era agradable, así como el limón arroz. También habíamos pedido masala de paneer, pero esto sólo había cuatro cubos pequeños de paneer y sabía de coco. . Como fue realmente la salsa korma.

Llevar los 12 de mayo. He tenido antes de llevar desde aquí y comido y siempre bien. Esta vez la comida era horrible. Quien pone en un dhansak crema de coco? Palak o sag? El pollo Tikka masala tenía tanta comida en color rojo para que sea comestible y el pollo balti estaba irreconocible. Además, el chef, evidentemente, no ha tenido sus vasos y parece haber equivocado de azúcar por sal. Bastante comida asquerosa.

Un restaurante muy limpio y ordenado, el servicio era muy bueno, y el precio era justo. No muy impresionado con la comida, pedimos Rogan Josh y una comida Korma, fue hecha y le faltaba sabor.

He usado este para llevar tres veces y las tres veces que no me dan una ensalada con cebolla bhaji mi. La comida está bien, pero muy sosa, comida india debe ser picante, incluso si no tienen agua caliente. Me voy a volver

I often visit here after work on a Friday with people from work. The food is always really nice but the very odd thing is that the food can vary each week as to which ingredients they use and also the colour of the food changes on a weekly basis. But the food is always very nice and the staff are lovely too.

The service is always good at bengal balti and the staff are very kind. They have a good selection of curries available, but not too many, which is good in my opinion. The lamb pathia is my personal favourite. Price is what you'd expect for a curry place. You can easily get a curry and rice for a tenner.

We have always had good food here, Good value and very tasty.If you are lucky you can park the car out front, or there is a Tesco over the road.

Can't recommend this restaurant enough, we love it, Ranu is so friendly, we visit at least once a fortnight, the curries and side orders are great, we take our own Alcohol which makes it so affordable.

The Bengal Balti is very consistent and reliable. The food is great from a wide selection choice. Recently refurbished it's a cut above other similar local sub continent food establishments. Very friendly staff who have amazing memories.

Been using the Bengal Balti for a long time, their food is very good and it comes from a very comprehensive be menu. The service has always been excellent and I highly recommend them. There is a large car park at the rear of Cavendish Buildings or a pull in off the High Street to the front. In addition to the restaurant, they also do a good take away!!

The staff were very friendly. The children decided to try some different dishes and loved them all. The food was really good and well priced. The service was not rushed We loved it. We will definitely visit again.

We had dinner on the recommendation of Mr. Singh from the Deangate Motel. The service was attentive and the curry was good. The menu was varied and there were some dishes on the menu that I had not seen before.

When I proffered my American Express card to pay the bill it was rudely and tersely refused. It spoiled the whole experience which, up to that point, had been enjoyable. A few manners go a long way. I won't be returning anytime soon.

I don't go for a curry back home. I go for a Ranu. By far my favourite curry anywhere in the world. Ranu is part of the experience I wish he had a Ramsgate branch !!!

Have eaten here several times and have always come away very impressed. The interior is clean and nicely decorated, the service is friendly and efficient, and the food is consistently of an excellent standard. In my experience, the best Indian restaurant in the Forest.

Visited bengal Balti for tea with a friend. Staff are friendly, big portion sizes and the food is lush ( i had the chicken tika masala) and that was spot on and so was the chips and rice!. I will be visiting again.

Never had a bad meal or Takeaway from here. The staff are always good, many a time I've walked in ordered my takeaway wandered off to get some beers and comeback. Never a problem for them.

Got a takeaway from here. Phoned order through and collected half an hour later. Large portions with lots of meat, could have been a bit warmer. Friendly staff.

Visited twice for Take out; The first time, we were impressed by the quality and tastiness of the food for a reasonable cost. However the second meal was not as tasty, the order had to be corrected as not containing the dishes ordered. This was done promptly but caused a delay in collection and some of the dishes were therefore cold when finally plated up at home. doubt whether we will go there again.

A cheap and cheerful indian, the food is good, the waiting staff are very accommodating and happy to help.

Totally reliable Indian (Bangladeshi) restaurant, with an enthusiastic welcome and attentive service. Tasty, generous helpings. Wine is expensive for what it is, but as you can bring your own, not a problem! Plenty of parking behind.

We are regular customers to the Bengal Balti, both for sit in meals and takeaways. Tonight we ordered a takeaway at 5.13pm, was told it would be approx 40mins which is standard and no problem, we then recieved a call at 6pm to say the delivery driver hadn't turned up so we should expect an additional 30mins wait. This time came and went so my partner proceeded to phone and ask firstly how long it would be and secondly if we could expect to receive a discount, the person on the phone hung up, so I then phoned to be told the manager would be doing the delivery and ask him about discount when he turned up. 15mins later the manager turned up, so my partner asked about the discount and the manager proceeded to stand in the street arguing with my partner that he wouldn't recieve a discount and the food wouldn't be cold as had been stored. Got the meal inside to find the curry's and rice cold, the naan bread burnt to cinders and missing the mint sauce. Awful service considering how much we have spent over the months let alone years!

We came here with our three year old son and we all had great food. There are some uncommon dishes on the menu as well as the usual ones. The restaurant is a fairly typical setup, clean and simple but they obviously take the ingredients sourcing and cooking seriously. Lovely meal!

Went with friends early on a Friday evening. Didn't think to book but they fitted us in without any problems. Tables were a bit close together but it is a tiny restaurant so that's to be expected. Food was plentiful and tasty and service was entertaining as the young son was serving (so cute). Service was unrushed and they left plenty of time in between courses so you could let each course go down. Don't normally eat out in Lydney but this was a pleasant surprise and would definitely return again in the future.

We used to live in Lydney so often frequented the Bengal Balti, but as we have now relocated to South Wales we are unable to go as often as we'd like. However, we still travel the 35 miles to partake in the lovely food and service you receive at the Bengal Balti and we went there on Saturday (15th Novvember 2014) and again were not disappointed. The food and service were excellent even though they were extremely busy with takeaway orders. The whole time we were in the restaurant (which was about 2 hours of relaxation), the takeaway orders didn't stop and there was always at least 2 people arriving for pre-ordered food, or orders going out as a delivery to the local area, yet the 'sit down' food and service were still excellent. Thank you again Bengal Balti - much appreciated and see you all soon!

This has to be by far the best Indian restaurant in the area . Excellent friendly service , wonderful food , a really great night out.

we ate here once again after returning back from our holiday an did not want to cook. Ranu always makes us very welcome as does the rest of his staff. we had no trouble getting a table as it was early, but would advise booking on a Friday or Saturday night. the food was piping hot and tasty. the portions are plentiful. in fact we took some home as we could not eat it all. a wonderful welcome home. 10/10 once again

My husband and I live locally but haven't eaten here, as we usually go further afield to try out restaurants. We are big foodies and Lydney is hardly the epicentre of fine dining We visited here last week after travelling back from London and being too lazy to cook we thought it would make a nice change to try eating somewhere that we didn't have to drive to (and hence have a drink)The staff were friendly and the menu selection extensive, so large in fact that it was quite a dilemma trying to decide what to order. Prices were very reasonable indeed including the drink! A pint of cider was under £3 !! Cheaper than most pubs. All courses were tasty, unfortunately we had had lunch whilst in London and were not as hungry as we would normally be , but the staff were great and put it in a doggy bag for us I would say this was a good Indian, TripAdvisor doesn't allow you to score that......it jumps from average to very good......hence my 3.5 score. We will probably return again next time we fancy a meal plus alcohol . For reference, they also accept Tastecard Mon to Thurs.

As regulars to The Bengal Balti, we have never been disappointed.Extensive menu, with fabulously tasty food.Brilliant for takeaways also.Highly recommended.

Me my family & friends often go here, wether it be celebrations or just a chilled evening out, no matter your out for Ranu will give you a fantastic evening with absolutely stunning food that always comes out hot & utterly perfect for the palette! Ranu and his team always give a warm welcome whether eating in or dining out.Been coming here for a good many years only ever had one complaint and it was rectified immediately.Booking is advisable as they do get busy,which is a good reflection on the food and service on offer.Well worth a visit.

This restaurant has seen many a birthday celebration from our family and will surely see a lot more! The food is stunning, much much better than any I've tried from other places locally and further afield. Ranu and his staff are friendly and helpful and often bring out a birthday cake and a flaming shot for which ever of us is celebrating. Cannot fault this restaurant at all!

Very average food, nothing really that stood out from the million other Indian restaurants. Quite bland and boaring really.Decor and atmosphere is very cheap an dated.Service could be better.And BE WARNED DID NOT HONOUR THE TASTECARD! on a Sunday night.

Have been a loyal customer to Bengal balti for many years! Meals with friends,family and large groups,whatever the occasion or however many people we have never been dissapointed. Great food great service and a lovely family.

Since my first review we have visited this restaurant again twice. After the first disappointing experience we have found it has, in our opion, somewhat improved. We have changed from a standard vindaloo to the Zalazala on the "chef's recommendations" menu. This is hot and somewhat like a vindaloo but has a better consistency and a fuller flavour.We take our own wine and have poppadums for a starter with chutneys. It always amazes me that they are called chutneys because wherever you go there is always some chopped onion and another non chutney item included.The biggest improvement on our last two visits has been the absence of the "little hitler" manager who is quite honestly very rude in the way he speaks to customers. With luck he has left for good!The service on all our visits has been a bit wanting and like a previous contributor says the take away service seems to take precedence over table customers.All min all it is an improvement and we will go again.

Food was great, really flavoursome and very well presented, you can take your own drinks, staff pleasant, but the service was dreadfull, we visited on a Saturday evening at 18:30, there were 4 other tables seated and the phone rang constantly and i mean constantly for take away orders, these seemed to take presedance over restaurant customers, it took ages for our order to be taken and food to arrive, we had to go to the bar twice to ask for water.....there were take away orders stacked all over the back of the bar and a que of people waiting to place orders....all together quite chaotic.....such a shame as food was good, not sure if i would visit again on a Saturday evening

Everything is good here - friendly and attentive service from good people, large portions of very good food, very reasonable prices and you can even bring your own wine!

We have been eating here for several years and still come back. We find the service excellent whether as a couple or in a large party. Our kids were well looked after when attending as a group of teenagers. Takeaway or eat in, the food is good. There is plenty of vegetarian choice and the vegetarian really rates the Balti Sag Aloo. The menu is regularly updated so there are new dishes to try alongside the traditional Indian and Balti meals. I particularly enjoy Sagoti Chicken Tikka and Kattamitta Lamb, which are not found on many menus, but the keema mator and methi bhunas are up with the best of them. Prices are good for the standard of food which has been consistent for years now. Booking is not always needed but the restaurant regularly fills.It is found on the main street of Lydney with parking in front and a large car park behind. We have tried other local Indian restaurants but come back to Bengal Balti. We have eaten Indian food in many places at home and overseas and rank this highly. It may not have the ambience and sophistication of some modern restaurants but is at the special end of the spectrum. We do not have far to travel to Bengal Balti but we would travel much further to eat here.

We bought a VIP card and had not used in 3 months since purchase so booked a table on a Friday night for a tester. Service was slow starter of Tandoori chicken very ordinary, main courses below average and always poor service. Won't waste money going there again. People in your reviews who rate this highly have very little knowledge of what a realy good curry should be like.

I eat here once a week (and I own a restaurant) Best food and service around. great ingredients and balanced flavours. Delivery service too! I suggest the Chicken Jalfrezi or mixed tandoori with tarka dal poured over the top. Consistent over the years, same team, same chef. Love it!

We haven't visited the restaurant in a while but they also offer a takeaway service. The food is brilliant whether you eat in or take away. The service is always fantastic and the prices are very good value for money. If there isn't something on the menu that you would like they will usually do it anyway. I once visited for my birthday with about 20 friends and they were able to deal with all of our needs as well as offer us special deals. I love the staff at this restaurant they are ace. Definitely would recommend this to anyone in the area or visiting the area.
