I went to the Spitalfields site. Found it quite hard to decide what to have, menu is a bit confusing. Settled on the salt beef one. Ingredients were fresh and good quality. For £7 the portion size would be enough for two as a snack. I enjoyed it, but something wasn’t quite right. Later it hit me... the horseradish didn’t go with the overall mix. I would visit again, possibly.

It’s a generous portion of a tasteful gluten free wrap based on cassava flour. If you are Brazilian you will recognize the size is bigger than popular ones in Brazil. It was my first time there and while there I saw many second time costumers bring in friends to try so the word of mouth is spreading fast. The service is excellent and very welcoming. They advertise to the costumers they make flatbreads with love.

Among all the amazing stalls in the market, this was possible the best choice that we could have made for lunch. I wish I had thought about taking pictures or creating a little video clip -- not only is their food divine but the assembly-line operation of creating the filled cassava root pancakes is perfected to a fine science. The cooks have your order down perfectly and you see it being created as you move along the line -- they also ask you about minor adaptations (more cheese?) I enjoyed the salt beef filling -- has a lot of potential for variation with the other ingredients that can be added. And it was delicious!!

Entertaining to watch being prepared and delicious to eat. Bejummy's preparation is part of the show. The casava root pancake is 100% vegan, dairy and gluten free, to which you add your choice of fillings. I'm a creature of habit, and personally find some of the combinations available on the menu too difficult to eat as the pancake struggles to hold in the generous volume of fillings. My personal favourite is chicken, fresh tomatoes, red onion, fresh red chillies & chilli sauce, which comes with cheese to help bind the edges of the pancake sealed. "Cheese is love, cheese is life" you'll hear them exclaim. The loyalty card means that 4 purchases will you get a free bag of bejummy packaged casa flour to try your hand at recreating this ar home - I gave it a go and it wasn't half bad. Your eighth purchase is free. Definitely one not to be missed!

We were just looking round Spitalfields for lunch when we were offered a sample from this food truck. But we don't like wraps, or at least we thought so till we sampled these. He then carefully showed us how he cooked them, it was like being in a cookery demonstration, with the added benefit that we got to eat the gorgeous product. It was entertaining and the food was really enjoyable. We were so impressed that we bought two bags of the cassava starch. Our wraps haven't been quite as good as his, but still enjoyable. As we were eating ours a couple of hundred metres away, a lady nearby was really impressed and went to get a wrap herself. She was equally pleased with hers, and enjoyed their showmanship too.

I’m too hungry to write well. But this is only the second time EVER that I have been to a restaurant that served our table NO FOOD. We arrived before 6pm and were shown to the basement - often not a good sign. We placed our order just after 6 and had to leave to get to the match by 7.20. There was no food by then. The poor waitress kept saying “five minutes” but was clearly getting nowhere. Of course it was down to really terrible management. And aggressive with it. Apparently we should have understood that it was a bit of a lottery whether any food would be served: the manager pointed proudly to two other tables where people had had to leave without getting any food at all. Clearly Gem was trying to profiteer off hungry fans and accepted every booking, even when the management must have known they were completely unable to serve everyone. I suppose it was a risk worth taking for the restaurant - just not for the customers. Gem by name but not by performance or attitude. Will buy some halloumi on the way home…
