We've tried a few Chinese takeways in Exeter and they've all been 'OK' but no better than that, until we tried Oriental express. This place was the most recent, and as of then, is the ONLY place we'll go as everything was excellent, apart from the food which was AMAZING. You definitely won't get a better Chinese meal than what you get here.

About £2 extra for cheese on chips, not sure what was paid for here? Had to add cheese ourselves! Rest of the food was decent

Food was shocking!! Dry chicken balls overcooked batter,beef curry came without rice,onions were burnt mixed with raw onions,beef over cooked.chips cooked twice tasted dry,prawn rice also dry overcooked and was tasteless!! They've hacked up the prices and the service was poor,he didn't even speak to say thankyou! Hard earned money wasted on very poor food!!

I cannot believe the price hike, I appreciate the current energy situation, but I ordered off a menu leaflet only a few months old (which had previously been raised) and couldn't believe the price difference, then we got home to find the chicken was tough, theses pure greed, so compared to the the local Wans they will be getting our business in future, they have made a mistake and will pay for it. It's unfortunate as we always had good food from here at reasonable prices.

As one of the best Chinese Takeaways in Exeter, whom we've been using for many years, they are our goto. However, tonight I tried to order a delivery to my office to be told can't do it as too far away.. 1.4miles away... Bowhay Lane to 150 yards from Sainsburys Alpington..?? Couldn't collect as stuck at work.. Best food, but not impressed on lack of distance they deliver. Shame, used another 3.2 miles away no problem.

The best Chinese takeaway I've had in years! A bit expensive but I think that all the takeaways have had to hike their prices up. Piping hot food which was very tasty indeed and delivered way before the time advised. Looking forward to my next order, I forgot to mention that if you spend over a certain amount then you qualify for free delivery - a rare thing these days!

My friend and I have been poorly from eating here. Say no more.

This was my favorite Chinese food go-to in Exeter! Can't overemphasize how good the food was, I ordered 3-4 times a week! And that cute Chinese voice behind the phone was always a delight to hear

Favourite take away in Exeter, kung pao and special fried rice is an absolute winner. Only flaw is that they don't take card payment

I enjoyed the egg fried rice and crispy chilli beef. Ordered on Deliveroo and the food came on time. The person delivering was polite and all the items were there. I'd happily order again.

Used to love this chinese but theyve changed the recipe on the crispy beef with chillies and now its vile . I have also had chicken balls that were half raw from them . Dont think i will be ordering from there again, really gone down hill .

The best Chinese takeaway in Exeter without question. Superfast delivery and fantastic choice of menu. Prices are very reasonable and they also take telephone orders so you can skip the online delivery costs. The food is fabulous and they always add plenty of meat when you order any meat dish. Their service is just fantastic and they always add a free item with each order. Fully recommended and 100% the best Chinese takeaway in Exeter without a doubt. We will never use another takeaway ever again after using this one. The food and service is just fantastic and their prices are very economical and reasonable. Thank you so much Oriental Express for a wonderful brilliant unbeatable fantastic service. I always have the Special Curry and Chips. It is packed with meat and so very very tasty. My partner has a variety of things and she is always very happy and satisfied too.

Servicio absolutamente impactante. Siempre espere más de lo prometido y siempre faltan cosas. Siempre parece decir que el cliente está equivocado y nunca se responsabiliza cuando se equivoca. Esta noche, espere 90 minutos por la comida que debía ser de 45 minutos, solo para que la orden se estropee y envíe arroz frito con huevo pero no curry. Llame para decir que falta el curry para que me digan que no lo pedí y que yo fui el equivocado. Sé que pedí el curry, pero aparentemente no lo agregaron al pedido, ni siquiera estoy seguro de si me lo cobraron porque no tengo recibo. Dijeron que podrían enviarme mi curry para ir con arroz si lo pagaba de nuevo, pero serían 45 minutos y tendría que pagar los gastos de envío (a pesar de que se equivocaron). No volver a ordenarlos nunca más, recomendaría permanecer alejado.

Awful tonight, so sad as we have used this Chinese for over 15 years, tonight really under the usual standard, the curry sauce could only be described as thick pink and tasteless, ruined the whole meal! Sadly not sure I will use them again.. Such a shame

Our local Chinese take away consistently gives great results when we order by phone and then collect. They do a local delivery service but have not used this facility. They have recently stopped taking card payments and don’t tell you this when you order so when you arrive with only a card, they direct you to the shop next door to get “cash back” the shop charge for this privilege and when I had a bit of a Moan at the staff at the Beijing she pretty much said tough luck and did nothing about it. Poor service, great food!

Been using these guys for three years and the food tastes great, is always hot and what you get is consistent every single time. Would not order from anywhere else :)

So.... firstly they stopped on just eat because they were being ripped of by them. They had to have a min £20 order just to survive. £2 delivery charge and 50p 'processing' charge by just eat went to je not the takeaway. We order direct from them every week mow with no delivery charge and no 50p cant make money from card charge by je. The food is bloody lovely. Suport local food by ordering direct not just eat......

We had a lovely meal from here on Friday night. It was really busy so I was really glad that I pre ordered the meal before I arrived. Really good taste. Excellent price too. I have been coming here for years and will continue to do so. As a note for Feb 2019 they are on holiday so they will be closed. Keep up the good work guys!!!

My regular ‘go to’ local Chinese takeaway and have never been disappointed. Always on time whenever I collect, foods hot and order spot on. Favourite dish has to be beef with chilli and garlic sauce, absolutely lovely!

It was on our way and I really wanted to eat so we poped in and the first though in my head was "it is quiet here for a Friday evening". Well we were happy and ordered some seaweed, chicken and prawns. When we got homw and opened the food containers I understood why the place were so quiet :( the chick and prawns were badly overcooked and it didn't smell like normal Chinese takeaway :( I was starving so I stil tried the food, that wad a big mistake, all of it ended up in the bin. AVOID!

Duck rice, £6 hard small pieces of duck, rip off with egg rice below. Sweet sour chicken was tiny bits of leg meat, never again.... poor show

The reviews are so bad for this Chinese I hate the food from this place it's disgusting and all the food smells and tastes really strange and that's why they got banned from just eat because the reviews were so bad they stopped advertising the restaurant. Vile 😷😷

The food was delivered 30 minutes late and there was no apology or appreciation for our patience. The food arrived barely warm. The egg fried rice was plain, no flavour.

Placed a large order for 6 people. Unfortunately, one portion of food was missing which meant that 1 person was unable to eat with us. Had to contact the restaurant to organise the delivery of this item; the lady spoken to was sorry but did not act in the most professional manner (shouting at the cooks while I could still hear), tried to offer compensation next time round but this was not what we wanted in this situation, finally said that they would arrange delivery for it. When questioned how long roughly this would take, she could not give me an answer. Eventually the item arrived about 30 mins later but I question whether it would have done so had I not pushed for a time for when it would arrive. Beijing Oriental Express is my go to restaurant for nearly 3 years now. The standard of food has massively dropped (greasy). I say with great shame that it may be time to look elsewhere.

Never arrived delivery driver apparently disappeared husband collected food after 2 hr 45 given a £19 credit after all the hassle which they refused to honour by our next order food usually good disappointed :(

The food was horrifically greasy, one of the greasiest meals I’ve ever eaten, would not order again, made me feel like I was just eating oil - the delivery was really early and unexpected, was predicted to be delivered at 19:05 and came just after 18:15which I suppose could be good, the portions were good sized

Our regular Chinese was shut as it was a Monday evening so we rang here on our way back from Suffolk and ordered a Chinese style chicken curry. Not a single hint of curry and completely tasteless and I couldn’t even eat it. I wished we’d had a Kentucky. Don’t waste your hard earned cash!

Chinese chicken curry disgusting lesson learnt.

Ordered a meal for Tea, Arrived within 30 minutes...Piping Hot, All cooked perfectly, NOT greasy, BUT Crispy Chicken Pieces in Batter, Giant Prawns in the Black Beans and Peppers, Fantastic Special Fried Rice with Chicken and Chinese Sliced Pork on top....Along with beautifully cooked Beansprouts with Noodles...Could NOT fault the quality of the Food at all.....Only thing we could complain(LOL0, about was, Did NOT get any Prawn Crackers with our order?? But it did NOT take away the enjoyment of the meal......Had the rest for breakfast the next morning, Was still lovely to eat. Do NOT be put off by some of the posts on Trip Advisor, OUR meal was perfectly cooked and tasty.

Crispy beef v tasty sauce. Nice sweet n sour. Rice had big chunks of meat in random! Duck greasy messy to have but tasty.

Quite nice, not the best Chinese I’ve ever had. It was a bit heavy/greasy, but still quite nice! Probably wouldn’t get the mixed hors d’oeuvres again as personally I didn’t think they were worth the money, would have been better to choose a smaller side or another main dish for the price.

The food itself was lovely but we were left waiting 45 minutes later than we were meant to. This is quite off putting for future purchases from this company. Overall waiting time was: 1 hr 45 minutes.

Really disappointing ! The food is not great, rice dish over cooked, and one of our meals didnt turn up... we obviously called back, and they denied any knowledge of the order.. DISGUSTING... the person taking orders clearly didnt know what she was doing. never ordering from there again

Firstly the food is so overpriced it's ridiculous and also so greasy and i live literally 60 seconds up the road and I had to pay a £2.50 delivery charge what a joke!

The food was good as always (worth every penny) maybe a little colder than usual, but nothing a microwave can’t fix, but the delivery time wasn’t as good, waited the original hour and a half that I was quoted, and after it was 10 minutes late, rang the restaurant and they said it was on its way, nearly half an hour later it arrived, the driver was lovely and I love this takeaway, the only thing they could improve on is the delivery times!!

We ordered the Chicken with ginger and spring onions, Chicken Chow Mein and Chicken Satay all was very nice except a bit too salty for our taste. Will definitely order from here again. Thumbs up from us

Thoroughly enjoyed everything. Spring rolls crispy and not greasy. Egg fried rice cooked perfectly and again not greasy. If i was being really picky the crispy beef was not very crispy inplaces.

Cannot fault the food which makes it even more disappointing. Ordering at 7.30pm for asap we were advised in the app it would be ready for 8.35, after paying and placing the order it changed to 9.05. I called at 9.15 chasing the order to be told it was on its way. 10 minutes later, 2 hours after initially ordering it turned up...next door, the takeaway put number 6 on the delivery.

Very long delivery/waiting time. The restaurant added in a couple of bags of prawn crackers as compensation but this was still a disappointing experience on the whole. We will not be ordering from Beijing Oriental Express again.

Being honest curry is real bad. the chicken is slimey and curry has no flavour apart from a weird smokey flavouring which is really off putting. Also have walked past the back door around the back of the building and have seen rice left in a sink. Gotta be honest but I've been really ill from this Chinese.

I live two minutes up the road from this Chinese and I've been using them for years the food is amazing the best Chinese in Exeter for sure! It's a bit pricey but it's worth every penny!

Very disappointing. My husband found meat in his vegetarian food, my chicken skewers tasted fatty and even the prawn crackers tasted weird. I didn't think you could get prawn crackers wrong. Fast delivery and very sweet delivery guy though.

Burnt tasting soggy noodles, soggy grease soaked batter and the satay sauce I'm sure was bistro gravy with nuts in. Poor effort guys

We placed an order which was due to arrive at 8:10. We then received an email to say they added an extra 25 minutes to the order. At 9:10 we received a call saying the food would be another 40 minutes. I asked for a refund but they asked for patience. They said the food was cooked, but was still going to be another 40 minutes. I'd had enough by this point and just cancelled the order and was not offered a refund

Food was due at 19.35....didn't arrive until 40 mins later. Called the restaurant during this time to ask where the food was and was put on hold for 10 minutes. Had to call back as they had clearly forgotten I was on the phone. At this point there was some shuffling around and they say our food was now on its way. It was hot thankfully and was tasty enough but won't be ordering from here again.... too much hassle.
