Beefeater Saffron Walden in Uttlesford

Used this eatery when staying at the Premier Inn Saffron Walton a couple of years ago and there were no complaints then but things have changed. When we went to get our table at 7.30pm we were told that we weren’t being rushed but we need to get our orders in before 7.40pm or we wouldn’t be able to eat anything as the kitchen closes at 8.00pm. Once seated we were then presented with both the menu and a list, equally as long, of items that weren’t available on the menu. By this time we only had 8 minutes on the clock to decide whilst cross-checking the menu! The food itself was pretty average. After the meal we went to have one more drink in the bar. Once sat down with our drinks we were quickly told it was last orders, soon after that, around 5 minutes, all guests had to leave the bar. The England game was switched off half way through, maybe not a bad thing, and the door was practically slammed behind us as we were turfed into the lobby with the remainder of our drinks. I realise this is not the staff’s fault, they are only enforcing the rules but it all felt very rushed and stressful. Other guests were clearly annoyed by this. On the whole I think the opening hours could be handled better and something needs to be done about the lack of options, whatever the reasons, it was embarrassing.

Make regular visits to Saffron Walden Beefeater as a group of 6 ladies who like to lunch, never have I been disappointed with the food before, but there was several items not available on main menu and no Sundeas in the desserts ! The food was not up to its usual standards, I had the Burger Stack which I don’t have the brioche bun, there was a cheese slice just thrown on top of burgers and no crispy onions which were replaced with raw onions, the burgers had been overcooked and were very dry, mine and all other meals were not very well presented on the plates either, but cannot fault the service given by the staff and we were looked after, we will be returning again in September so fingers crossed things will be better

We came to celebrate my friends birthday,half the menu and drinks were un available. Which was very dissapointing. We had steak which was cooked to our liking and very tasty. If I’d have known I would have booked somewhere else! Not many desserts available either!!!

Didn't realise you had to book, says to do so to avoid disappointment, so assumed this would be the case if restaurant was full. Rock up for spur of moment lunch, told wasn't taking walk ins, restaurant had one table of 5 or so and one couple. 5 or 6 chefs twiddling their thumbs, and potential customers turned away??? No wonder the company is in trouble. Feel sorry for the staff. Won't try again, we definitely don't book for lunch.

Not PREMIER INN but BEEFEATER (part of same group), ran out of two beers Friday, closed bar early Friday (before 9:30pm) without calling last orders & again Saturday (about 9pm), closed & locked bar area, leaving guests only Premier Inn reception area to sit in, despite notice on tills stating time of closing as 10pm. Also they were unable to provide us (hotel guests) with breakfast on Sunday morning.

Although quiet Sunday evening service, pleasant welcome and host! Requested to move to a booth as have a bad back and simple smile, let's just check we don't have any large tables booked! Menu straightforward, good pricing and steaks we're tasty and rested. Beatrice is a delight, upselling and recommending. A perfect service for a good brand. I have worked in the Michelin world and I would be proud of the young team you have serving, everyone smiling and enjoying what they do. We will be back!

We enjoyed a lovely lunch. Our waiter, Tom, was friendly and attentive. Our soup, grills and dessert were well-presented and delicious. This restaurant welcomes singles, couples and larger gatherings in its welcoming, spacious venue. An excellent choice at whatever time of day.

Tom and Sorita, the servers, always greet me with a smile, remembering my preferences and making sure I'm well taken care of. Kelly, the manager, runs the place with a blend of strict professionalism and a warm, welcoming heart, ensuring that every visit is seamless. But what truly sets Beef Eater apart is the quality and freshness of the food. Despite the breakfast being buffet style, the chef always offers to cook fresh items upon request. This gesture not only showcases the kitchen's commitment to freshness and quality but also adds a personal touch to the dining experience, with each dish prepared to order, ensuring that every bite is as flavourful and satisfying as possible. The kitchen staff, led by Colin and Rav, deserves every bit of praise for their culinary skills and their ability to consistently deliver top-notch meals. In conclusion, Beef Eater is more than just a restaurant to me; it's a second office, a dining haven, and a place where everyone knows your name. Whether you're here to work or to enjoy a meal, you can expect nothing but the best in terms of service, atmosphere, and culinary delights. We had a one night stay over Christmas visiting family , decided last minute to have breakfast and we were not disappointed. Greeted by welcoming friendly staff , breakfast was replenished regularly meaning hot well cooked full English with all the added extras . Will definitely return

Come for breakfast asked the Bald Headed chef for allergy advice as I have a gluten allergy he was very clued up & knew what he was talking about, he also made great poached eggs. Waiter Tom was very attentive very chatty & friendly also helped with using the coffee machine as I’m terrible with technology at the age of 67. Overall I really enjoyed my stay in the attached Premier Inn & enjoyed my Buffet Breakfast with freshly made poached eggs. Look forward to coming back with Family in the summer.

Staying at the adjoining Premier Inn, it was logical to eat here, especially in view of the “meal deal” offered by Premier. I booked my table for 6.00 p.m. on a Friday evening. There was a party of very loud school girls. Ok - that happens. However, I asked for the salmon - not available; the chicken - not available. I settled for fish and chips. Service was quick enough but the meal was below disappointing, extremely greasy with soggy chips. I had asked for the grilled veg as an extra but, again, not available. Asked about dietary requirements, mine is dairy free. I was told I could have coffee after my meal instead of a cold drink. However, they couldn’t do this as the milk is already in the machine. Peppermint tea? Not available! Breakfast. Very little dairy free I won’t be returning

Food was nice (ribs) Our table waiter was very good, helpful and friendly but there was no co2 for the tap lemonade/coke etc so had to buy expensive bottles instead. Table was booked for 8pm, didn't have to wait long, had starter and mains, came to order puddings at 9.10pm but was told the kitchen was closed! There was no communication regarding this and we all left disappointed. Why would a restaurant that's located in a hotel close its kitchen on a Friday night at 9pm and not allow people already seated to have desert? Not good.

Had a lovely meal this evening , recommend the biscoff ice cream sundae - we were served by Lewis who was great , very attentive and efficient .
