Have not been here for a while. At worst it has always been fine. Ordered food from the bar. The gammon steak when it arrived could at best be described as lukewarm - clearly left standing too long. Took it back to be bar and the lady was very apologetic took it away to get it replaced and offered without prompting to give us a free drink or dessert. A nice gesture and much appreciated. Unfortunately when the piping hot meal was delivered it turned out that the gammon was well a truly char grilled (and not pleasantly so). I couldn't be bothered going for a third round as my partner by this time had finished their meal - so I ate it. Left the most offensively burnt bit of gammon so they could see how bad it was. Mentioned to the lady behind the bar who again was very apologetic and went to get the manager. He came over apologised said he'd speak to the chef and then walked away. They effed up my meal twice and that was the sum total of his response - the lady behind the bar at least offered us a drink or dessert on the first instance. Now I don't know if the chef is crap, having a bad day, or got miffed that someone sent food back but the second gammon was simply unacceptable. The shame of it is the first one seemed to be cooked fine it was just the whole plate was just about lukewarm (well the gammon and chips, the peas were just plain cold). Given the underwhelming response of the manager we didn't bother with the dessert or drink and left. Under normal circumstances I wouldn't mention this but as we found it sort of damningly amusing: my partner had the flatbread chicken sandwich. It was fine but as she was cutting it up to eat it came apart. She noticed that all the lettuce was all just stalk: four precisely, clean, cut stalks removing all the leafy part. Someone had gone to the trouble of cutting lettuce up and serving only the stalk! The main dining area seemed to be closed (I assume for a deep clean) as when we went to the bar area we were advised that most of the chairs were wet as they had just had a much needed deep clean. I get it, this has to be done, but why would you close off one area and then render the only other remaining area near unusable! The lady behind the bar was brilliant from start to finish. Shame the rest of it was substandard.

My recent visit to Beefeater Granary, Peterborough was a major disappointment, raising serious questions about whether the brand can continue to survive without urgent changes. We had planned a special family meal, but instead, we were left with an experience that felt completely subpar. While the waitress provided excellent service, the food was unacceptable. The roast dinners were cold and burnt, more resembling a low-effort fast-food meal than a proper restaurant dish. The portion sizes and presentation were equally underwhelming, failing to justify the price or the reputation Beefeater once had. To make matters worse, the toilets were dirty, reflecting the neglected state of the entire restaurant, which is in desperate need of refurbishment. The atmosphere felt tired, uninspired, and far below the standard expected of an established chain. For a restaurant meant to bring people together over a good meal, this visit failed in almost every way. If Beefeater wants to remain relevant, it must reflect on its future—improvements to cleanliness, portion sizes , and overall quality are not optional; they are essential. Based on this experience, returning would be difficult to justify. Note, if you are hungry…. Don’t have one of their premium burgers as it reminded me of a fast food happy meal! 5/11/24 6pm just walked in with my friend for a table for two the restaurant was empty but the lady with brown hair and glasses seem to feel that she was fully booked. She looked at her screen for three minutes clearly not wanting to give us a table! When you’re out of a job in a few months because the place is closed it’s your fault…. never again will I give you another chance !!!! Management you need staff that are happy to want the custom. Previous visit review. Not impressed this time around. Didn't cook steak as requested. My side salad was the core and end of the lettuce which should have been thrown away. Hardly any hullomi in the starter and the other half said his chicken tasted watery.

Very disappointing experience at The Granary (Beefeater). Arrived at 11:30am to enquire about a table for 8 for lunch. The breakfast manager told us to come back at 12pm without giving a clear reason why he couldn’t help then. When asked, he said he needed to speak to his manager but just stood there until prompted again. When he returned, he told us we could eat in the bar, but his attitude throughout was rude, unhelpful, and dismissive—some of the worst customer service I’ve experienced at a Beefeater or Premier Inn. Another family nearby also seemed shocked by his attitude and service. I asked to speak to the duty manager and was told he was "busy." I had to ask four times before he finally came out. Even then, the breakfast manager kept interrupting while I was explaining the issue. No apology was offered at any point. Normally I have great service at Beefeater, but this visit left a very poor impression.

I really think that Beefeater need to look at themselves and their menu and portion sizes, as they charge top prices and deliver food that is not even on Wetherspoon wave length. At least Wetherspoon give you good food with a drink at good prices!!! Beefeater think they are above spoons and they really are not, in fact below. I went to beefeater Peterborough with my family and ordered fish and chips £17 a portion and when it turned up to our table I had to ask the Manager if we had been given kids portion sizes. My wife counted 8 chips I counted 10 the fish was tiny.. when I questioned this with the manger he said that’s the right portion size .. but I will get you some extra to compensate. This is not the first time Iv been to Beefeater and been very disappointed and it will be the last time I go to another Beefeater again.

Well after a year of closing for refurb I didn't actually know what they have done? Ordered Smothered chicken. Absolutely awful. The lettuce was brown on the stem so old and the chicken was thin and tasteless. Bacon the same. I've not had such a bad meal as I had last night. Won't be going back. Yuk.

The only thing that wasn't clear as a first time visit was the parking, we drove in & followed the road round & parked outside the premier inn, we weren't sure as we thought it should have its own car park, so we checked with reception & she told us we should park in the golf centre car park next door, barriers in & out, apparently you validate your parking in the beefeater, but she let us stay where we were. Would definitely visit again.

Standard stuff, but they generally do it well. Steaks, ribs, mixed grill all very good. The burgers are disappointing. If you can get a discount voucher, you can even call it good value for money. Service is always spot on, food out quickly and hot.

- Terrible service. Had to actively chase down staff to be served and remind them about food we ordered. - Food was poor. It seems they cant cook a steak to your desired request. 7 chips on a portion is pathetic too. - No members of staff at the entrance to seat us, for like 12 minutes. I went into the kitchen and had to ask a chef. - Bat staff are awol, found them joking and chatting together inside the staff section. Many people were waiting at the bar and it wasnt even busy. - Manager refused to honor a meal deal that was pre paid and that was honored the night before. You do not deserve jobs if you simply have terrible work ethic. CEO of beefeater needs to watch this establishment like a hawk and micro manage the hell outta these people. I implore everyone here to not tip and remove all service charges.

Not eaten here for quite a while but as in the area gave it a try. Will not be rushing back again. Had chicken melt with salad and fries. The bacon on chicken was just a piece of streaky fat. Think they counted the chips on the plate and threw the salad on. My friend had fish and chips, skin on fish (unusual) and again counted the chips, wrong peas given. The food must have been standing for some time as was only just warm. Did not send it back as did not want it in the microwave again! Think it will be long time before going back.

Went with Friends for breakfast.. ordered no problem.. 34 mins later food arrived.. 😋 there was 5 people in restaurant so ??? Excuse?? Then the food ! What a disappointment. the black pudding was like an ice hockey puk.the poached eggs were rock hard yolks .bacon was undercooked. Tomatoes were scorched and dry.and the Sausages were like torpedoes. Over cooked. A total let down.sorry we all agreed we will never go again for breakfast.

Popped in for breakfast which was pretty disappointing. Several slices of bacon cooked together as they had come out of the packet so they weren’t cooked on the joining pieces, beans were cold and the mushrooms were so old they were cold and wrinkly, sausages were not great either, shame. Staff were lovely though. Toilets need a good clean - cleaners seem to forget the back of the seat and the toilet itself - pretty gross

Normally always went to Beefeater Peterborough. We always had great food there. I chose the cheapest veggie burger as money is tight and the price increases are significant. Not just there. I had a Halloumi burger, which was delivered in abun which must have been there for days. Everything was dry. Still paid £16 or £17. My son was quite happy with his platter. The service is always good there. I never had an issue. Not rushing back

We booked here as I love the bbq ribs, which I have maybe twice a year and I always enjoy them but this time they were very dry and not at all nice, the other two people with me had the salmon which was extremely dry and not very nice, the parsnip s that came with their meal were cooked to a crisp and also uneditable and we asked for them to be replaced, our waitress was lovely, very polite and helpful. Looking at the other reviews a lot of people are saying the same about the food and I agree with what they are saying, this place needs to change the chef

We regret to say that our recent experience at this restaurant was thoroughly disappointing from start to finish. Upon arrival for our breakfast reservation, we were greeted by a staff member who seemed utterly uninterested in his role, displaying a clear lack of enthusiasm or professionalism. This set the tone for the entire meal. The menu was limited due to multiple unavailable items, and the continental breakfast buffet was completely depleted with no replenishment. There were also dirty utensils on the table that we had to request be cleaned. Unfortunately, the quality of the breakfast itself was abysmal—unappetizing to the point that we wouldn’t have fed it to our pets. When we expressed our dissatisfaction to the manager, his response was both unprofessional and unhelpful. Dressed sloppily as though he had just rolled out of bed, he displayed a complete lack of customer service skills. Instead of addressing our concerns, he became defensive, rude, and even shouted sarcastically as though unable to handle constructive feedback. He ultimately decided to not charge us for the full bill, which was a small mercy, though it hardly made up for the dreadful experience. The rest of the staff, notably the two waitresses, were pleasant and seemed to be the only ones trying to salvage some semblance of service. However, the majority of the team, including the manager, were indifferent at best. Given the poor quality of both the food and service, wewould strongly advise against dining here. We certainly won’t be returning, even if offered an incentive.

This was a strange experience, watching service which was disorganised and chaotic, while ours was better. We entered the door, there were two members of staff there, asked for a table and were shown to one near the serving hatch. The first thing we were told was that a lot of menu items weren't available. We were given a list of those unavailable. The menu had a mix of festive and standard items and I chose a chicken and rib combo, which turned out to be unavailable as well. I was recommended the festive chicken and ribs with cranberry sauce. We also ordered a mixed grill. The food arrived and mine was a fairly modest plate, they certainly weren't generous with portion sizes. It was good however, the ribs were very tender. The mixed grill was better. Service for us was mixed, attentive when they remembered, with some gaps, a second drink took a long time to arrive. One drink was spilled by the member of staff as he laid it down, he simply walked away and I had to dry it with a paper napkin. The big problem was new arrivals. The serving hatch where staff congregated was not within sight of where people waited to be seated. Two couples arrived, queued for a while, then left as they weren't served or offered a table. At one point I pointed out to a member of staff there was someone waiting, after he had been standing there for at least 5 minutes. Rarely have I been so frustrated at other people's service, rather than my own. Most of the staff were young and were lacking in support or direction. After we had been there about 40 minutes another slightly older woman arrived and she was better, organising people, giving them tasks and doing a lot of work herself. They really needed someone allocated to new arrivals and a regular presence at the arrival point in the restaurant.

Myself and my partner visited on the 30th of November where were served by Chloe, she was very attentive and not overbearing! She clearly had a tough day talking to her whist paying, I would like to say she was excellent and a credit to this business! Having working in restaurants as management for 16 years and a small time in this business she was one of the best! I know how expectant the public can be and for minimum wage no one should be made to cry at work in what is a demanding industry, Chloe you were excellent and I hope you get this review is read out to you! Oh and my partner just had just recovered from a massive operation and this was her first real night out and was made to feel very welcome, well done young lady

After making a booking for dinner on Saturday 30th November at 7:30pm via phone call, through the automated system, I wanted to speak to a person to enquire about a voucher I received. Once I got through, I asked if I was able to use the voucher for a *Free 8oz Rump Steak when you buy any main meal from the main restaurant menu as it was subject to availability. I abruptly was told that the voucher was only valid for lunchtime and was not able to use during dinner. And before I was able to even question further to explain that it was valid after 11:30am and that kids and the luchtime menu was excluded, the staff member was extremely quick to end the call. Now I understand that I contacted them during the evening rush hour service so their attention was drawn elsewhere. However, after trying to call back several times, the first 2 times the phone was picked up and not answered as I am sure they have caller ID and wanted to just pick up the call to prevent it from ringing any further. Then the third time, I rang via a different number and I assume the same staff member picked up, was then told that we have rung during the rush hour and to ring back an hour later to enquire. This is absolutely disgusting and disrespectful behaviour from staff members, from someone who works in the catering business. No matter how rushed and how busy the restaurant may be, you always try to attend to customers whether it be in person or via phone call as you have now lost a future customer. What if an elderly person or someone who has a disability would prefer to speak to someone on the phone in regards to a booking was treated this way, it just goes to show that the care for people in general is not a priority.

Have been visiting the Granary for years,and have been for breakfast several times..Today as we all know prices have gone up everywhere,today all our party ordered a portion of mushrooms..All of us got 2 button mushrooms each! Scrambled egg was half of what we normally got,and the same with baked beans..So if we visit in the future,may have to order 3 or 4 portions of mushrooms at least then that would be a decent size portion of mushrooms!! Naughty...

Had Sunday lunch here and like the granary restaurant areas over 2 floors but rear areas were closed. Dr8nks took ages to arrive then second up we were advised no chicken so the roast dinner was out for me so I had the pie which was nothing to write home about, my wife had steak which was not great either. Fortunately we had the 30% off deal for Beefeater celebration of 50 years so made the disappointment somewhat bearable, food filled a stomach hole and we have eaten better there before some year or so ago. Based on this visit it is now more like a fast food prep place not an enjoyable properly prepared food restaurant. Can do much better unless this is now their dining style and food / menu quality, Beefeater you have gone down in 50 years was always good before...

Tables were empty but because they had a large party she refused us entry as no booking!! We checked on line and still plenty of available slots but we decided to go to Harvester. Very poor all round. Staff dont seem happy so very little engagement or info that car park cost can be refunded !! Only found out when I saw another diner putting card in. Waited ages for starters then again for mains. Both had steaks that were dry and grisly. Avoid

I don't want to say too much as the service in the mornings during breakfast is usually on point though this time this evening me and the kids were waiting for service at the bar area for quote some time and no one was there so I went with them to the restaurant and waited for service at the post at the front. No service came for a while again. So I went up the stairs and found a waitress, I mentioned how we were waiting and eventually came upstairs, figured things may have changed. I asked if there was a table for three available and I was looking towards one close by. The tone from the waitress put me off, she was condescending and then asked if we had a reservation (half empty restaurant). Also, me asking if there was space to eat here would suggest we don't have a reservation. Anyway, her tone and abruptness put me off. We only popped in on the way when passing from our walk. It saved me £60 on an over priced chicken and kids puddings.

Visited Saturday afternoon for a cold drink and scone. Wanted to sit outside as it was such a nice afternoon. The only free table was literally stacked with dirty plates,glasses,cups,cans. I went inside and although the entire place was empty EVERY table was also stacked with dirty crockery!! Half eaten meals,flies everywhere. One of the tables outside became vacant so I ordered my coke and scone and asked that the table be cleared.. A very reluctant lad came out and cleared the debris,didn’t bother to wipe the spilt salt,ketchup and general mess up. Another customer was loading dirty plates from her table onto another but still nobody bothered to clear up. My scone came out like molten rock,it had clearly been zapped too long in the microwave. When it had cooled down enough to hold I tried to cut the scone,it was rock hard. By this time the staff were out enjoying the chaos that was happening in the grounds of the cathedral and clearly weren’t interested in customers. Definitely won’t be returning,the whole place was dirty.

Not the greatest at all, too many large vehicles weaving in and out of you whilst shopping and not sounding horn was so close to the pallet that it was carrying hitting me. Also seen lots of meat In the halal section that appeared to have bad freezer burn. Flies everywhere , fruit and veg unpriced. The bitcher section had joints of meat with labels torn so couldn't see use by date or price. The scales at the check out were filthy. The staff just laugh at you when you ask them a question...

I have read previous reviews of this cafe so can only hope this was just a bad day. After looking around the lovely cathedral this seemed the ideal place for refreshments. My partner joined the queue for food only to be told when he eventually got to be served he was in the wrong queue as we only wanted soup. There were no signs to tell us this. We then sat for at least 25 minutes for it to be brought to us. When it finally arrived after we had asked twice where it was, it was barely warm. Im not sure what had happened on the next table but before the food even arrived they asked for a refund. After tasting the almost cold soup we did the same and promply left, leaving our uneaten food on the table. The only explanation they offered was that there had been a rush on. There was certainly no rush when we left and Im not sure why that would be the reason for serving cold food. It is such a shame as it is letting the cathedral down which I have to say was very impressive. My advice would be to avoid this cafe at all costs
