Best chippy in Cleethorpes by far

Really good service as always and prompt service, only slight criticism is food could've been a little warmer.

Best fish and chips by far in my eyes, shame there's no eat in anymore.

Still on the lookout for a nicely cooked fresh piece of fish in the chippies in and around Grimsby . Tried here today - very nice smell coming from inside , ordered haddock and chips Like the other recent review has mentioned - nice chips , but the batter on the fish really let's it down My fish was mushy , over cooked , the batter was like consistency of a doughnut - too thick, very dry. The fish hadn't been turned on equal sides as bottom was rock hard .

We've just ordered 2 chicken and mushroom pies with regular chips. Shocked to hear the takeaway price of £18.50 but we'd both been working all day, got home and too tierd to cook so went with it. They only come from Market Place to our road near Jet Garage so not sure how they justify £4.50 delivery!! Arrived within half hour which was fine but the meal was awful. Pies were dry and overmicrowaved. Chips weren't even cooked and pale in colour so I'm afraid most of went in the bin. Wished I'd bothered to make beans on toast. Certainly would have been a lot tastier. Never again 😒 warning to you!!

Went today with family. We usually go to Papas but tried this for a change. What a lovely little fish and chip cafe. Clean and comfy seats, plenty of room, good was great and portions are huge. Staff were polite and food came fast. All very hot and fresh. We'll be back when we next visit the seaside. Thank you.

Chips nice (can’t really go wrong) but SO much batter on the haddock it was a tiny piece of haddock made to look massive due to the huge amount of batter it was surrounded in, disgusting and a let down

Love Ernie Becketts give you old school chippy vibes, food is lovely, generous portions and staff always smiling no matter how hectic it is.

Very poor service , rang up to order home delivery gave ALL details address and ALL card details told delivery 1 hour , put on hold for 5mins line goes dead . 2 hours later get sick off waiting so go to chip shop told no order came through but money taken from bank .

Went with our lass on the 6th of September while staying on haven. I had medium fish and chips and mushy peas and she had medium fish with curry sauce and we shared a homemade fish cake. Absolutely delicious food with great service aswell 😋

Hi, myself and a college both from Hinckley, Leicestershire, were collecting a vehicle from a dealer in Grimsby on the 22/7/ 2024, we decided we would have a chippy lunch if we could find one close by, we asked the receptionist for a recommendation, she said Becketts in Cleethorpes just down the road. Parking was a problem but we did find a spot, we both had Haddock and chips regulars portion £8.80, this was a good sized portion as the large looked huge, on tasting the food we both were delighted how good they were, cooked fresh while you wait ,I can honestly say they were without doubt the best I’ve ever had and my mate said the same, so much so on walking back to the car I called back into the shop to thanks the staff who were great and to tell them our thoughts on the food THE BEST IVE EVER HAD. next time I visit there again I will be back for more, many thanks for such great food when so many chippies are poor, the price £8.80 for great food is cheap

I went recently when on Holiday at Haven Cleethorpes. First time after a while. We had large haddock and chips, made to order. The service was fast and friendly and I can say it was a massive portion and the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. .

This place is the best in cleethorpes!!!! The fish is beautiful and made to order, the chips are crispy and fluffy inside, and the curry sauce is the best! Staff are fantastic as well! Price is amazing for what you get, massive portions! Definitely coming here again!

My partner and I visited Cleethorpes yesterday for the Armed forces day. I looked in a few chippies and then saw this one. I spoke to a customer inside and she told me this was the best chippy and she always came here. So I thought I would give it a go. My partner didn't want fish/ chips as had brought sandwiches. I Was not disappointed, I ordered haddock and chips. fish was massive, cooked to order. The meal was that big my partner had to help me eat it. Very tasty. For £9.70 it was good value, as our local chippy, haddock and chips are around £12 and fish not as big or cooked to order. I would highly recommend this chip shop. The staff were so friendly.

I love this shop the food is delicious however I am very disappointed to see a tin of Dr Pepper price was £1.70 as I think this is just extremely extortion later went to the shop an bought very same tin for 75p very disappointing as yes the food is lovely even for the price £8 small fish an chip but that much for a tin of pop is discusting I don’t see how you can justify that it’s very wrong we’re all up for supporting small business but the same in small shop 75p shame on you

Food is decent but £4.00 for a chip butty with a tiny portion of chips in a tiny box just isn’t good is it.

Our first visit today, we’re staying locally from South Wales and heard great things about this place, it didn’t disappoint, probably the best fish and chips I’ve had in over 15 years! Just wish we lived closer, Thanks so much.

Delivery is a joke. 70pence to process your order then £4 delivery charge even though we only live half a mile from restaurant. We are old so thought fish and chip delivery good idea. Forget it, will not be getting any orders from me or my family when they visit.

Enjoyed our takeaway lovely fish and chips was hot good portion and definitely go again.

Myself and my cousin travelled from Nottingham to see friends who live very local, so of course we had to visit a coastal chippy! Ernie Becketts was highly recommended by a friend but they also stated they are the more expensive one to visit. Price isn't important however when you are looking for high-quality food and at the end of it all, it's a treat. I was surprised that our order only came to £15.60 for a large Cod, chips, large battered sausage and chip "cob". Coming from a big city, this isn't expensive at all. A good quality large Cod and Chips from some of our chippies will cost you nearly £15 alone. Anyway, I have to say we were both blown away. The chips were delicious, perfectly cooked and tasty. The Cod was also incredible. Not very greasy, had a very flavourful batter and the fish itself didn't smell at all, it was incredibly fresh. The battered sausage was also not the cheap traditional flavourless sausage likened to Richmond, it was a proper Lincolnshire sausage that had seasoning. Again, fantastic batter, just like the Cod. Even the scraps were tasty...and FREE. The staff were really friendly too, and had a good laugh with us when my cousin asked for a "chip cob"... I'll be returning in the next few weeks and months throughout the year and will 100% keep returning to Ernie Becketts.

Bitterly dissapointed with the fish especially, the chips were good and the mushy peas, but the batter was undercooked leaving a residue on the fish , and the fish itself was very dark and tasteless, Id go as far as to say it was off. Four of us said the same thing, we have had much much better ...not recommended at all unfortunately.

Staff have no direction and have people skills problems .could i suggest you retrain them and get your shop in order , horrible experience.

not tried the food but we was down our street and the ernie beckett van was the wrong way and the driver of the van on the 18th feb 6pm was being very rude and told us to reverse onto the main road which would have been illegal. she also video taped myself as i went over to tell her how to move her car as we needed to get home.

Out of 4 jumbo haddock only 2 edible 2 smell of ammonia rotten fish smell gone in the bin its expensive not to be able to eat it chips ok & peas ok shocking wont bother with that one again

Initially called at Ocean bar but it was rammed so came here again hoping for improvement on last visit, but regret not good. Only 1 other customer in. Fish over cooked with crispy batter and yet dripping grease. Such a shame, used to be the number 1 , I won't go again , alot of good competition close by.

This was fish cake sausage and chips. I've also had fish from here and that is great too. The small sausages are proper Lincolnshire sausages and the best sausages you can get from a fish and chip shop. The chips and very nice as well and cooked just how I like them. They have big menu so do a lot more than other fish and chip shops. Highly recommend here.

Had a delivery very recently. had a large piece of fish which was beautiful and white and very tasty. .

Several years since I was last here, but the fish and chips were as good as always. And a very decent price considering the size of the portions. Takeaway only (March 2022), but the hope is the restaurant will be open again soon.

We normally purchase fish and chips from Becketts ; they make the batter crispy whilst the fish inside is soft and flaky. Service is good from the ladies. Sausages in batter are tasty too. Overall very happy and will continue buying from here.

Went to Cleethorpes yesterday for a couple of hours with my wife and we decided to have fish and chips as we usually do every time we go. We had never tried Becketts but it had been recommended to us and they were the best fish and chips we've had in many years so it's my new favourite chippy go to.

My favourite fish and chips in Cleethorpes. But since this COVID fiasco. Restaurant has been closed. And only doing card payment which I object to. Their loss is wetherspoons gain.

Always excellent quality - taste amazing especially taking out and eating by sea. Avoid big chains and stick to the places that have been there years- they know what’s best, tried and tested! Look forward to eating in again sometime xx
