Beach House in Maldon

Booked for lunch, only to find didn’t have the food on menu. Only had sandwiches or jacket potatoes. Web site needs amending.

We visited today, as a family group and had phoned ahead to reserve a table. Whilst drinks were served promptly, food took over 45 minutes to be brought to the table (and only after 2 reminders). The food was reasonable (though a cheese and caramelised onion baguette was made with goats cheese which should have been specified on menu). We had to request an itemised bill and were charged for kids ice-cream which should have been included as partner of their meal. This overcharge was refunded when we pointed it out. Not really acceptable serving times with hungry youngsters. Please accept this as constructive criticism.

Walked from Heybridge for breakfast. Food arrived at 5 to 12. That was an hour and twenty minutes after ordering.The food was cold tasteless and unfortunately very poorly presented. The staff did their best but obviously the kitchen couldn't cope. We sat it out and endured a terrible breakfast. Fortunately we had booked the Cosy Club in Chelmsford for the evening and that was fantastic. Next time I go to the beach house I will stick to coffee.

Terrible service. Walked in for a cup of tea and a piece of cake, and was told (by the young girl behind the counter), that they were closing in half an hour. I replied that it wouldn’t be a problem, but within a couple of seconds, a second young lady appeared from the kitchen, and said that they’d actually stopped serving drinks at 2.30. By my watch (which is correct), it was 2.32. I didn’t complain, but just asked if they could serve us 2 pieces of cake. I was told that we could have some to take away. Don’t put yourself out !!! I declined the offer, but did ask if I could use their toilet, which I was told, was fine. On entering the gents toilet, I was greeted by a sink full of vomit, that had obviously been thrown up by a previous customer. Perhaps Id inadvertently dodged a bullet, and hopefully the 2 work shy, layabouts behind the counter, had the job of cleaning up the mess, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. It was only the 2nd of January, but even so, was it really too much effort to make a couple of cups of tea, in a cafe with just a handful of customers?

My Mum (91) loves going to the Beach House. All the staff are so helpful and always smiling. The food has been outstanding every time we have been there and the eating areas are always very clean . Well worth a visit

I’ve tried eating here twice, both times have been a disaster, hopeless staff that haven’t got a clue , and are confused about there are menu. Was told that cream tea needs to be ordered 24hrs in advance but it makes no mention of this on the menu. Tried to order a breakfast but refused to make it. Again no mention of timings on the menu. Staff leave you sitting at a dirty table and despite asking for a menu twice they just ignored us. Nice location let down by dire service from staff who simply couldn’t care less. Gave up and left without eating for the 2nd time. Won’t bother to try again.

We were visiting friends and the Beach House is really nice for a few drinks and a beautiful view, friendly staff and good entertainment.

Absolutely amazing food,staff are really friendly and accomadating. 1 con is they need umbrellas outside its too hot to sit outside in the sun in front of the glass screen.wouldnt stop me going but its a shame we couldn't sit outside for our meal.

Maybe clean your cleaning cloths once a month whether they need it or not! Proper grim tables

Nice place to stop after a long walk

Excellent little cafe with good views, staff are all cheerful and helpful.

Needs to become dog friendly inside. In the winter months dog walkers are the main potential clientele but who wants to sit outside with the wind and rain swirling around freezing cold!

Only a short drive from home but you feel like you're on holiday with the wonderful view of the river and boats. On a sunny day, nowhere better.

Attended the Beach House on Saturday, was served the most amazing fish and chips ever ! Hats off to the chef. Well done 👏

Often pop in for a coffee and cake .. great place and service.. But sitting having a coffee yesterday 9th February after a river walk and some guy starts smoking an E cigarette and puffing clouds of smoke everywhere....inconsiderate or what...but no staff asked him to smoke outside where others do .or leave or put it out ...sorry but not impressed. Is this legal !!

Hi Everyone I really like this place the view over the estuary is fantastic. However when we arrived the kitchen had no cook and as I understand it has trouble keeping its kitchen staff. The beer was good and the staff friendly and helpful but no food past salt and vinegar crisps.

Small pleasant cafe with outdoor verandah and superb view. Friendly staff but small basic menu lunch choice. Great position.

Took my Mum there today for the first time for some lunch. The staff, the food and the view were all absolutely excellent. I can't recommend the place highly enough!!

We had a fabulous cream tea for 28 ladies and gentlemen today for an 80th. Sara and her whole team did us proud . ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS. Please go and try this fantastic restaurant. Food was spectacular and 28 people are hard to please ,They were all in awe with the delicious food and all agreed presentation and service was spectacular . 💯💯💯

Second time we have eaten here. Both times exceptional service and food is freshly cooked , plentiful and really tasty. Can’t fault it. Thank you from Mavis and family.

Popped in for lunch and a hot drink whilst on a walk. Very good food with generous portions. Home made soup was yummy. Ambience good.

Stopped off for a bit of brunch (at least we had hoped to) whilst walking from Heybridge Basin to Osea. It was a Sunday around 11.20hrs and the sign outside said food served Sunday’s 9am-3pm. Went in to get a menu as we were sitting outside and when went back I. To order I was told that the kitchen has now closed until 12.00hrs to turn around from breakfast to lunch service. We decided to wait the 30 mins and placed our order. Did receive the sandwiches about 5 mins to 12 (were given free mince pies to tide us over the waiting time) but the two glasses of tap water we ordered along with the hot drinks and food never turned up and the fries had also been forgotten but quickly rectified. The food was good and the terrace outside has great views and as it’s slightly elevated and has glass screening feels separated from the Defense wall walk. Please correct your signage outside re food times. Would give them another go though.

Only stopped for coffee but was really impressed with the staff & decor. They seem to have some good food on offer, so will come back for lunch. Great views over the water. We walked from Heybridge Basin. A great 5 mile walk, mostly flat, along the coastal path to Goldhanger. The Beach House is about 2 miles out from Heybridge Basin, so you can break the walk if required. Beware that, unless you want to walk back from Goldhanger as we did, the buses from Goldhanger to Heybridge Basin are infrequent & taxis aren’t always available. It’s an awesome 10 miles round trip walk.
