This is not a good cafe. It used to be the bayleaf which was always bustling and friendly. Now under new ownership and now called Fayre Grill. The food is OK but the atmosphere is not good. Who I presume is the new owner watches over everything while hanging over a food counter usually texting which makes for very uncomfortable dining. Due to this I would not order any food from the chilled counter below. This is a cafe I will not be back in. On the positive note the girls who serve are pleasant. The owner needs to read up on customer service!

Morning coffee stop, choice of scones, fresh and delicious,generous size of coffee cups but coffee weak, .would have preferred smaller portion but more taste of the coffee.Service good but our party were only customers.

Awful experience, planned on having breakfast with my girlfriend, went in and sat down only to be ignored while at least 2 or 3 other couples were given menus and had their order taken. We sat for approx 5-10mins and ended up having to get up and walk out. I know it's just a café but it's not hard to acknowledge someone when they take a seat.Overall a complete let down and embarrassing experience.

We got 3 meals today (Sunday). The kids meal was fine, but the rest was only average. After a 30 min wait, I was served a sandwich and chips. They had no chicken and no coleslaw but I wasn't offered any alternative. My partner had chicken and chips and the chicken was burnt. We paid over 20 pounds for the meal. Extremely disappointed considering the place was deserted. To top it off, the lady started clearing the table while I was getting up and spilled mayo on my trousers. Very disappointed.

Bayleaf now known as Fayre Grill... Brilliant food scones so fresh and served warm. Best cappuccino I've had in a long time. The lemon drizzle cake is just so delicious. Rico the owner is very friendly. Will definitely be back.

We had not been here in quite a while however as soon as we walked in we were welcomed as old friends. Once we had updated in all our news we decided to go with staff suggestions on what we should have to eat. I have to say that we rarely do this but trust the staff here. We werre once again so impressed by the food, which was, as usual, fab.Highly recommend the Bayleaf whether you choose to eat in, or takeaway.

Happy breakfast , and staff are happy to exchange items on breakfast and help , really good with old people and children

This place is very much overpriced. Only one sausage and a few chips for kids portion at £4.25. Daylight robbery. Adult meals are small and over priced. Cups dirty with tea stains on them. Avoid

This place that is now called the Fayre Grill serves food that chippy food would trump. The service is mediocre and they got my order wrong when the place was pretty much empty, but they did quickly fix it. They are also really stingy with the condiments for some reason. At each table there is only sachet of red sauce, which is annoying for when you are eating a fry. This place is just badly outclassed by it's competitors, and I see no reason for why I would come back to it.

Perfect location, bright and airy, great start to the day with a tasty breakfast & lunch menu. Quality ingredients plus a very good coffee, all round unbeatable value in Ballymena. Friendly and enthusiastic new proprietor, Rico, will be sure to make you feel welcome.

Having returned after the name change I don't think I will be back. Staff were slow and spoke in single syllables with no please or thank you. The food was bland and tasteless. Thanks main meal came at the same time as the starter. A can of coke is £1.75 and no facility to pay by card

The new owners have really improved the look and feel of the place with a few minor changes. Portion size is far better, slightly more expensive but definately value for money.

Great little find. Very friendly and welcoming staff, in a clean and relaxing environment. Their menu is not overly complicated but you can be assured that your choice will be prepared to a very high quality. Great place for breakfast, lunch or an early dinner, all within easy walking distance to the shops. The toilets were spotless. A pat on the back to all the staff that keep this place in top notch condition. 😁

I have been coming to this restaurant for many years and have always enjoyed the food, finding the portion sizes good and the meal filling. On my penultimate visit I had a lovely discussion with the new owner, where he declared he was changing the name but the food and most of the prices would remain the same (with perhaps a few pence increase here and there only). Imagine my surprise then to discover that the 3 course meal (which was priced under £10 previously) is now up to £11.99. That is not a few pence increase!!! I was so disappointed at the manager's disregard of his price promise that I just left the restaurant and went to Desperate Dan's where I enjoyed a beautiful meal for under £5. A proper reply to this review would be much appreciated. Thanks

We called here as it is a favourite of my mother in law. I had a bowl of their thick vegetable broth with wheaten bread and good coffee. My wife had their excellent stew made with chunks of beef, not mince. Both dishes were served in a large bowl which curved in at the top, thus keeping these dishes warm until the last mouthful.

Been here a couple of times for lunch, I love their chicken strips and their chicken goujons. I have found the staff to be pleasant and helpful. I haven't been put off by any negative reviews and neither should else will definitely be back in the future

Been coming here for years and never had any issues, food has always been really tasty. Love this place and will be coming back a lot more often 👍

I called up for a salad sandwich which I must say was absolutely appalling, one small piece of lettuce and a few cubes of chicken and a slice of tomato, no onion mayo or coleslaw which I asked for, I also asked for a few chips, and to my horror I was charged 6.95 for the privilege, when I got back to work and looked at the box the sandwich was threw into the box and you could not eat it, I rang to complain and was greeted by a manager who did not want to know and was extremely offensive, I then just asked for a refund and went to a very good butchers shop who make extremely good sandwiches with the correct filling and not over priced, should have went there in the first place.

Waitress slammed teapot and cutlery onto our table and had really terrible attitude. other waitress just as unpleasant. Seriously need new staff or intensive training for existing waiting staff.

Bay leaf use to be very nice place to go for something to eat but now it's went down hill... costumer services is poor wouldn't hurt if waiters would crack a smile.... NOBELS CAFE all the way.... such a shame I use to love bay leaf 😕

Cheap and cheerful and meal served quickly by friendly staff!

Cada vez que salimos de vacaciones están a prueba en otro lugar siempre compara a este pequeño gran lugar. Justo en el centro de la ciudad justo al lado de las principales tiendas, así que es perfecto. Lo recomiendo totalmente a cualquiera que esté en Ballymena para desayunar

Cafetería muy decepcionante. Sin duda muchas mesas y no hay suficiente espacio entre ellos. La comida es insípida y ambiente cálido. El personal es agradable, pero constantemente en sus teléfonos móviles detrás del mostrador que no parece muy profesional. En cuanto al precio, prefiero pagar...

Had two breakfasts in here and the frys are always cooked really well and neatly presented. Not to bad a price for everything you get and the best part of all is the eggs are perfect!

This restaurant has been there for years and serves the most fantastic full Irish breakfast at a price which is very low. Staff are friendly and as well as the all day breakfast they have an extensive lunch menu - also very well priced for Ballymena pockets. A real insider tip if you want a great Irish breakfast at any time of the day.

Eaten here quite a few times. Usually have the large breakfast. Comes out well cooked though like a lot of places at dinnertime the breakfast items do seem to have been at least partly cooked earlier and then finished off or reheated to order. Often to have to sit at a table that hasn't been cleared and wait for it to be cleared before ordering. Price not as cheap as it used to be compared to oters. Tastes good though.

I've been here a few times. Food is good and it's excellent value for money. But the staff really need customer service training! They are very unfriendly and everything seems to be a bother. Even a simple smile would help!For this reason, I won't be back.

Really enjoyed the £6.95 special. The service ok. Sadly the place is really full a lot of the time. However the food is great.

Awful staff sour faced don't want to do the job there getting payed for everything was a bother to them feel sorry for the owner 8 people walked out while we where there cause the staff where so unhelpful and rude a smile costs nothing there food wasn't bad but everything was microwaved to inch of its life the owner could have a great business if they sorted there staff cause its clear to see they don't want to be there or work with the public

They do a great soda with ham and cheese if you fancy stodge but can't face a fry. Never have to queue for a table

Popped in here for a quick bite to eat and was greeted by a grumpy looking member of staff. When ordering, the staff member did not seem keen to answer questions about food and answered in a sharp tone. When the food came it was good value for money but we felt we could not relax as not only every dish in our three course meal (£6.95 = bargain) was rushed and courses were being brought immediately once we had finished but the waitress was watching us the whole time and listening to our conversation! Overall good food at a good price but staff brought the tone down.

Shocking food steak sandwich complete rip of and the price for what you get is robbery should have went to subway would have enjoyed it more and not left feeling hungry.

Been to the Bayleaf twice now. The first time I visited with my family for a quick bite before shopping! The staff were useful as they did not explain throughly what the dish contained and almost seemed annoyed because we asked?however the meal was good and at a very good price. Because of this my mother and I decided to give it another shot after a couple of weeks! However, this time was awful. There is dirty dishes on tables that should be cleared up by the staff instead of chatting at the counter. The 'waitress' was very rude and had no manners. As for the food, my dish was okey, however my mum's fish dish was not cooked properly as it was still raw in the middle? It sorta looked like Icelands frozen fish bites that had been popped into the deep fryer and hadn't even been cooked properly? When I told the waitresses one of them was quite polite and asked if I wanted it done again, as for the rest of them they started making fun and mocking me right infront of my eyes? One word, rude.

This place really needs a visit from environmental health! the food is rotten, the staff are VERY unhelpful and worse of all I could not enjoy my meal when people walked in and started bullying me and my mum over her weight! I think that is very shameful especially when staff members stood and laughed at what was happening which was a right disgrace! the food looked exactly like pigswill and the garlic fries tasted of more vinegar than garlic and their free drink wouldn't soak a camel's dry tongue! very disgusting 0/10

My greatest complaint was the waiting staff! Extremely unfriendly and gave dreadful service. Food arrived quick, but I received the wrong meal. When I got my correct meal it was cold and greasy. The fry had been obviously cook in a chip pan. Disappointed in all.

OMG.. hand washing is a no no in this restaurant ..from the chef eating at the counter then licking his fingers followed by him scratching his head then returning straight into the kitchen and back to his cooking duties.. then 2 waitresses helping each other to empty the bin (all in front of the customers) then coming back into the counter were 1 wiped the bin lid and then with the same cloth continued to wipe the counter benches.. Honestly this is Shocking i have never witnessed anything like it .. i will never ever be back....

Too many tables and chairs felt over crowded.Staff not very friendly or receptive.All day fry was excellent value and tasty.

My family and I have been here on a good number of occasions and we have found that all the staff have been very helpful and friendly. They have a good selection of food on their menu and also have a good selection of specials that they do throughout the day. Their food is freshly cooked and you don't have to sit long to get served and get your food. I have never had any problems with The Bayleaf Restaurant and I would definitely recommend it to anyone that I was talking to.

Went here with my daughter for a change, I ordered a simple lunch, my daughter ordered a doughnut, went to pay and her doughnut cost the same as my lunch,, food wasn't even nice, small portions, waitress not very pleasent

Called in to-day on way back from Coleraine. Staff ignored us at first and then one put men's down in front of us. When she came back to get our order she was totally disinterested in us. She was more interested in getting back to chatting. Food came and it looked like a child's portion. Eggs were ok but chips were hard and not too warm. On the other hand the pot of tea was lovely. Nice place but take care of your customers

This is a really good place to eat and drink. Staff are very helpful. Place is all was clear. Food is cooked and prepared to the very best would recommend it to anyone

Visited on a wet and windy day for a light lunch. We both had sandwiches. They were fresh and very tasty. Coffee and tea fine too. Tray bakes usual fare. Staff very friendly and chatty. Although it was a bit noisy due to a few kids, it was a grand stop for a tasty bite to eat. Noticed others having full lunch and deserts which looked tasty.

We called into Ballymena on our way to Belfast to catch a ferry. We are a family of 5. We have 3 hungry teenagers. We went for the 6.75 three course meal and the servings wre huge and the food was excellent. The staff wre helpful and they even speeded up our food as they knew we wre rushing for our ferry. The food was hot and wholesome. I would definitely recommend this for a family on a budget who like big portions. Obviously if you are after cordon bleu then this is not the place for you. Everything was clean as I am a fuss pot and the surroundings wre pleasant.

dont like this place at all...i always give it a 2nd or 3rd chance and eachtime im disappionted.not a very xciting menu,and food is always cold.also atleast half a mile down the street u can smell the fried food b4 u even come near the bayleaf doors.total turn off!wouldnt recommend it!

Ordered food to take out and the portion size was like a kids meal. Not only that, the price was ridiculous. Unfriendly staff didnt so much as smile or engage in any conversation. This was my first time in it and certainly will be my last.
