Lovely, lovely evening. Service was attentive, but not fawning, and the menu offered a nice selection of entrees. My son and I both got fillets - perfectly cooked and seasoned, and my husband got the duck leg and said it was quite delicious. It’s a bit tucked away, so you feel like you discovered something special finding it.

Ate here two nights in a row as we stayed in the adjoining hotel. First night we had some boneless wings to start, then a ribs and chicken combo and a lamb kofta flatbread. Second night we had a bbq sharing platter with rib of beef, pork ribs, chicken, chips, bbq beans, corn,, mac & cheese all on a big tray. Good value food, served quickly. Plenty of well priced drinks too. Great service by all the bar staff who were all working hard to keep everyone happy.

Hi. I am contacting you regarding our recent visit. We booked two weeks prior. We arrived last Thursday evening. we were met by a lovely lady who took us into the main bar and told us she had some good news for us. We had been entered into your weekly draw for a free stay and we had won! Obviously we were delighted! For clarification we asked what our stay would cost. The lady took.us to our room and went away to check. She came back and told us our stay was free! Again obviously we were delighted. We went downstairs for a meal and checked as we had booked using a wowcher code could we redeem this value towards food or another stay perhaps? Again the lady checked with someone. We were then told in the public bar that they forgot we booked through wowcher and the free stay was no longer valid and didn't count! Obviously this was disappointing and not good customer service. I said this didn't feel good and surely we were still entitled to our free stay or at least a goodwill gesture. We stayed three days. A lady asked us on Saturday night for our wowcher. We gave her this recited what had happened. She took.our telephone number and said she would discuss with the owners. After breakfast on Sunday morning we paid Friday meal, checked out and repeated details to another lady, who also said she would report to owners and ask them to contact us. No one has to date and we are extremely disappointed with this.

Now maybe we are biased as we live near by...but...they get the right things right....the food is incredible...small menu but enough (which means they can concentrate on perfection)....simple ingredients and presentation (nothing fussy, very wholesome)...country pub chic (aged, comfortable decor like an old favourite sweater)....and importantly GREAT staff. Add it all up and the sum is greater than the parts....and thats why we love it.

Visited today for lunch with my partner and friends and I have to say I was left disappointed. The meal was delicious and the quality for the food was excellent although pretty expensive. It was the service that let us down. Four of us ordered meals from the main menu but only one small dish of vegetables arrived at the table. The waitress walked away so we called her back and asked if we could have another dish of vegetable - they were part of each meal bought. She looked at us as if we were asking for something very strange but she did go to the kitchen. After about 10 minutes and after we had eaten most of our meal and after the 4 of us had shared the small dish of vegetable another dish arrived. No apology or 'I'm sorry for your wait.' Nothing! Also we were not asked is we needed anything like vinegar or sauce etc....just lack of interest in customer satisfaction or needs. Now I wouldn't be bothered about the lack of service if I was eating in a franchise pub like a Harvester (Yuk!) but when the bill comes to £40+ for lunch then I expect a little bit of personal service and initiative by the waitress. Will we return....possibly...not sure.

Have eaten here before and enjoyed it but not for a few years so looking forward to trying it againThe bar area was warm and welcoming with a cosy bustling atmosphere however the main restaurant was quiet with only a couple of other tables occupied. We ordered a couple of pints of the local beer whilst we chose our meals but both these were obviously cloudy and tasted sour and had to be replaced. The young enthusiastic waitress had a bit of a problem remembering the ingredients of the days specials. These were written on a board in the bar perhaps they should have one in the restaurant as well.I opted for one of the starter specials the meat terrine with a local damson purree.A good combination and followed this with another special of guinea fowl with wild mushrooms and lentils.A good autumnal selection.Guinea fowl can be a bit dry but this was lovely and moist but lacked much flavour,My friends both had the duck legs which looked and apparently tasted delicious. We shared a bread and butter pudding with apricots which were chopped up dried ones which added nothing to the extremely buttery dish.To accompany we had glasses of chianti which I thought were a bit dear at £7 a glass. The whole bill came to £120 for the 3 of us.Not cheap but good quality food. The service whilst enthusiastic was slightly irritating as we were asked if everything was allright when we had not even started eating our meals and when we had finished and our plates were completely empty we were asked whether we had finished. These are minor quibbles and can be put right with training and experience.

Four of us visited yesterday in the evening, but as it was a Sunday there was only a Sunday menu available, fixed price for 2 courses at £19.50 or 3 courses at £23.50. As reported elsewhere the choice of starters and desserts looked appetising, however the main courses were limited and quite boring. Our main courses were 3 roast beef and 1 trio of sausages. Well the roast beef was good, but the sausages were ordinary and small for the price . The amount of vegetables for 4 was small and we had to ask for more - these were happily provided but arrived towards the end of the main course. Desserts were OK, but with the kids having ice cream, the price of the meal became expensive. For a family of four, two adults and two children there was no change from £100.So overall expensive for families with children on a Sunday - would much rather have had a choice from the a la carte menu - the cost would have been similar. Unlikely we will be returning.

Really nicely laid out pub restaurant - with purple parasols outside! Very classy! Good choice of food - not cheap, but very good quality.

We had a lovely meal for the 3 of us. Service was good and food was well presented with local produce. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Definitely a great place to go.

A return visit here for lunch after not having called for some time. The food was excellent - duck breast and lamb shank followed by damson fool and apricot bread and butter pudding. Staff were all very pleasant. What was the real let down was the very long wait with plates in front of us before anyone noticed we had finished our main course. Yes, the waiting staff were mainly young, and one very new, but there seemed to be no system of sharing tables or indeed roles between them. They were all very apologetic when we mentioned our concerns but will need to up their game if they are going to get repeat visits. There are lots of competitors nearby.

As a party of 11 family members had Christmas lunch here. We ordered from the menu in advance of the day and the service and food were excellent. It could only have been improved by the addition of tasteful background music to lessen the impact of a group of rather noisy diners on the next table.

This was a favourite haunt when we were students at the nearby University of Lancaster many years ago. We have returned occasionally over the years and just recently we were in the area again for the university's 50th anniversary celebrations. We spent a Sunday walking in Ingleton and wanted somewhere to eat in the evening. The Bay Horse did not disappoint. I had the traditional cheese pie and my wife had the hake. These were both accompanied by hot, fresh vegetables. For dessert, we both had the excellent pear pudding and washed it all down with a pint of Wainwright golden ale.The thing we like is that the inn has changed little over the year and still retains its original character and charm. The staff were also very helpful and friendly. As for location, it is right on the doorstep of the Trough of Bowland - what more could you want?

When visitng family in Lancaster we often thought of trying the Bay Horse Inn as the food is supposed to be good.Four of us went today for a light meal about 2.00pm. However as it was Sunday there was only a table d'hote menu available, fixed price for 2 courses at £19.50 or 3 courses at £23.50. The choice of starters and the sweets looked appetising, however the main courses were limited and quite boring. The starters were good, although the salmon was a very small portion. For our main courses we ordered 3 roast beef and 1 cheese and onion pie for our main courses. The beef was pink which we liked, but that and the vegetables, which were carrots and cabbage were only warm and not hot. We were given only a relatively small dish of vegetables for 4 people (the same amount as served for the table of 2 behind us), so we had to ask for more and a serving spoon. The salt grinder on the table didn't work, nor the one on the table next to us or the one the waitress brought. The espresso and petit four was very nice.A trip to the Ladies revealed an old toilet with an obvious flush problem, which couldn't cope with constant use.Overall we didn't feel our lunch was value for money and probably will not return.

Turned up late for an evening meal, great food friendly service. I had the fish pie which had a great mix of fish and seafood and my girlfriend had the cheese and onion pie which she said was great and as a vegetarian it was a great option. They also have an amazing selection gins which we sampled as well. Will definitely go back!

I had heard many mixed reviews of the Bay Horse and wanted to try it. We had a special occasion to celebrate so we booked last Saturday night. The food was faultless but the ambiance of the evening was awful. On arrival at 7.30 the bar area was full of diners and we felt as though we were intruding on their privacy by standing at the bar having a drink. We were then shown into a fairly bland dining room for our meal which as previously stated was very good. I am not too sure that non dog lovers would be be too happy to have dogs in the room as well as young children who although well behaved most of the time were getting noisy and tired by 9 pm. We requested to go into the bar/lounge to relax with our coffee etc but were not very welcome as the only spare table was being set for more diners. I suggested that the diners could take our recently vacated table in the dining room but was told that was not possible. I rather lost my cool and demanded that we were put on that table and we were, under sufferance. An hour later after coffee and drinks I paid the bill and was asked to add whatever I considered was appropriate for gratuities. When I didn't add anything my card was thrust back at me with a scowl. In summation the food is good but let down badly by customer care. We won't be going back!

We had a nice meal at The Bay Horse this week, and it was our first visit to the pub in about two years. The food is still of a very good quality, but we weren't wowed as we have been on previous visits. However, our puddings were excellent. We were celebrating a birthday and the staff marked the occasion when bringing out our puddings, which was a nice touch. However, we did feel that the pub lacked the atmosphere it has had in the past. An excellent pub, but not the best meal we have had there.

This was our favourite pub to dine and we every two months met our friends and had good food .Our recent visit was very disappointing , the atmosphere in the dining room was cold and almost dental surgery standard, the service was mistake after mistake, missing food not served together and waiting for more wine far too long, more bread not appearing, they were clearly under staffed..The food was average to say the least and definitely poor value for money, this was the opinion of all four of us, so they have lost regular business for good..

My wife and I went for a meal on saturday night, I have heard of the Bay horse many times over the years, however this was our visit. There are two areas for eating, the pub part and the dining room. The dining room wasn't very appealing so we chose the pub area which was cosy. I found the young staff to be very friendly and attentive.our starters were tasty, I had chicken liver pate with a homemade marmalade and rocket,I would have preferred a little more toast. My wife had Garstang blue cheese with pear roasted nuts and salad, She was very pleased. We both had the beef with chunky chips and have to say it was perfect but costly at £25 each. We finished with deserts which were very good.We had a bottle of pino grigio wine with our meal and the bill came to £96.00 which as I say was a little pricey. The restaurant was only half full and I think people expect to pay a bit less at a pub.All in all we had a great time and I would go again

Went for Saturday afternoon lunch, pleasant, small quaint pub, waitress was helpful and friendly, however the sandwiches for the price they are charging are not up to standard. My husband ordered a ham and mustard sandwich £6-£7 on white bread, for that price you wouldn't expect to get two slices of warburtons white! We did mention when paying the bill how disappointed we were with the quality of the bread used (subway seem to be able to get this right as do many other places!) to be told by the waiter that he would mention it to them!! Wish we had complained initially but had waited half an hour already.

Found this pub on a recent visit to Lancaster. It was busy for mid-week but we managed to get a table. I had the three hour cooked duck which was delicious and my partner had two starters which were also good. Only two staff for a nearly full pub but they handled it well. Would certainly visit again if in the area.

I booked Sunday lunch having always thoroughly enjoyed an excellent meal here. How disappointed I was this time! The staff set up a table for two when there was just me. The bread and butter platter arrived the same time as my main course of roast beef and the whole meal lacked flavour and the greens were hard. Having requested the menu for a dessert, I then waited half-an-hour before getting up from the table to place my order as no-one appeared to bother or be concerned. When the dessert arrived there was no shortbread to accompany the lemon posset. The staff lacked training, direction and commitment.

Appalled by the way I was spoken to after having to cancel a table due to a family member having a stroke on the morning of our booking and most of the family due to attend the meal having to rush to the hospital. Response of the pub was "pfffff I could have sold this table 10x over"! It's one thing to "think" this but another to actually say it out loud to your customer!! Absolutely disgusted that I felt the need to leave you a bad review. We've dined with you a few times previously but will not be returning after this!

We've been here a couple of times in the past and were very impressed, today stopped off on spec for lunch and decided to do a review. This pub is in a country lane a few minutes off the A6 between Lancaster and Garstang, and is a typical down-to-earth old Lancashire country pub -- indeed I remember it from 40 years ago when it was a "real" pub, just an ale house with no food in those days! The food is really very good and more than you might expect from the simple interior, with a varied menu with classy items unusual in a pub -- had the special, turbot with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes, cooked to perfection, friends' meals also excellent. The bar eating area is cosy and has a good buzz, and the service was quick and friendly, with a pleasant chatty Australian guy behind the bar, which serves several local and other northern ales -- had a pint of Black Sheep from Yorkshire, and then (not driving!) a glass of excellent Siglo Rioja (unusual as a by-the-glass wine in such a place, you would normally expect just a generic Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon) with the main. At the back where we've eaten before is a nice airy dining room with a lovely outlook over the fields to the hills. A perfect stop for lunch, and in the past a very warm and inviting place for dinner also. Highly recommended.

We went as a family and wow the food and service were amazing. I can recommend the rib of beef it’s to die for. Finished with the biscoff sundae and full to bursting. Amazing

We normally come here for breakfast as a family a few times a year. We come back because it’s a lovely atmosphere, lovely food and lovely coffee. My additional needs child is normally adamant that he needs to get an apple from here (given the name he expects there to be lots of apples to buy and eat!)🍏 His eyes lit up and he was so happily surprised when an apple came beautifully presented to him by a waitress on a plate of its own! I was really taken aback by the thoughtfulness of the staff here and how they made it a special thing for him, thank you so much.

Just visited this lovely looking pub for a bite to eat on our way through travelling home. We were greeted by the bar staff & ordered drinks. We took a seat & viewed the food menu. We both decided on the healthy option noodles with chicken which showed 600 calorie meal. We also ordered garlic ciabatta. The food arrived & very disappointed with what we saw. 2 bowls of greasy noodles sitting in an oily liquid! The ciabatta was cold & soggy. Such a shame as expected a great pub meal Needless to say we both left most of meal & left still hungry What a waste of money. We were asked if meal was okay to which we politely informed the waitress that it wasn’t great. Think the kitchen needs to up its game on food preparation.
