Baxters Fish Shop in South Holland

Baxters is just the best. My clients always said "go to baxters" and their wish was granted.. excellent fish and chips time and time again.

Well this place I have heard about for ages from the family came to visit and final got my chance well it was really fresh hot and really tasty. The staff are nice and it was busy the cue but worth the wait

We only came to Sutton Bridge to collect an ebay purchase, thought we'd skip breakfast and treat ourselves to fish and chips for lunch. Baxters was open at 11.30am on this windy, cool, April Thursday. We wondered why there was a small queue and a number of customers already strolling away from the place with their bags of chips in hand. After a very short time in the shop we understood why. Beautiful chunky thick pieces of juicy cod in a golden batter and really great chips too. All freshly cooked and ready to go. It made our day! We're coming back soon. Not as good as before pandemic, new fryer and staff not very friendly. Fish was nice but a lot of bones (haddock) batter was soggy. Won’t rush back

Called in yesterday ( 14th August) on he way to to a walk along the Nene. Small queue as there is one in one out rule at the moment. Had cod and medium chips. Beutifully cooked steaming hot. Sat on a bench near the old Bridge Hotel ad hey were brilliant eaten in the fresh air. Will go again.

My Son and I travel to Sutton Bridge every week to Clay Shoot at the local Gun club,on our way back home to Nottinghamshire we always call at Baxters for our FABULOUS FISH AND CHIPS,contrary to some of the reviews posted we have NEVER had a bad meal going back over some 20 years or so.All I can say is FIRST CLASS SERVICE WITH QUALITY TO MATCH,WELL DONE BAXTERS.We will be back soon.

First since lockdown not up to usual standard chips tasteless,sausage poor,fish ok, very disappointed,needs to improve drastically ☹️

We always stop at this fish and chip shop in our monthly journey from Nottingham to Snettisham and it's by far the best we've found in the journey. We always order Rock, which is cooked to perfection and a large portion. The staff are always friendly and helpful and remember us from one visit to the next. Never been disappointed and wouldn't go anywhere else.

I’ve visited this chippy man and boy. I live in Sheffield and my parents had a static caravan in Norfolk so we called here every Friday night on our way down during the season. Now most of my family have moved there so we visit when we can and we call for fish and chips either going down or on the way home depending on the time and we called yesterday afternoon. We were all looking forward to it and called in only to be disappointed to a point of we wondered if the shop had been taken over by someone else. The chips weren’t cooked the same, they were white and dry and the fish that is usually thick and meaty was pretty standard at best. I hope this was a one off because this was (is) the best chippy by far So disappointed!!

Called in late on Friday evening for food and drink not disappointed as the sausage and chips was of excellent quality

Had an excellent wing of skate and a rock eel with chips. There are not many fish and chips shops that sell these now so it was a particular pleasure to find such a good fish.

A proper fish and chip shop, good portions of chips, large pieces of white, fresh fish and all value for money.; We shall go again without doubt.

A very large helping of fresh fish and nicely cooked chips. Staff very friendly too. I ordered two servings but they were so large next time I will order one, because the servings are very large. Great value for my money

It has been a while since picking up Fish & Chips from here but we had good memories. This time the Fish was absolutely lovely and flaky but the chips were very poor. Better luck next time perhaps.

This is a proper fish & chip shop, with fresh fish and everything done in-house. No doughy bit between the batter and the fish, scraps available, great chips. It makes you nostalgic for a time you probably don't remember!

Seriously I can't understand the positive reviews. Really one of the worst fish and chip shops I have been to. Awful greasy chips that taste of cheap overused cooking oil. Truly horrible.

They use the same fat to cook in as when I was a kid, seeing as I am highly allergic to vegetable oils, having cod and chips cooked in Beef lard if fantastic

we use this place every week, best fish and chips for miles around and great staff. a great assortment to choose from the menu if you aren't keen on fish There is one problem too many chips as if that's a problem.👍

Don't expect anything other than the basic staple food from a rural takeaway and you won't be disappointed. Good food, good portions and pleasant staff. Love both Baxters shops but aim to buy the middle shop in the future 🤑

Clasificamos muy Baxter como norma, y están dispuestos a viajar 8 millas a servirse pescado y patatas fritas, porque son mucho mejores que nuestra propia de las tiendas locales. Esta noche nos había celebrado fuera de pescado y patatas fritas durante el fin de semana en la ciudad de Norfolk ya que sabíamos que podíamos confiar en tarifa mejor de Baxter. Oh cielos! El pescado y las patatas fritas hubiera mantenido durante demasiado tiempo, y estaban secos y duro. Realmente debería haber les pidieron que fry frescas para mí, y lo haremos en el futuro.

Vivir en Southend on sea donde parece imposible conseguir buen pescado y patatas fritas. Fuimos a baxters hace diez años buscando casas y me encantó el ambiente amable de su personal. Eel rock ordenados y patatas fritas para mi esposa y yo, y fuimos y nos sentamos junto al río para comer. Nunca había probado tales fichas hermoso en mi vida y la anguila rock fue a la perfección. Pasamos unos cuantos días de vacaciones para cubrir así que decidí probar este nuevo. Lo habéis adivinado, de nuevo, sólo que esta vez absolutamente perfecto cod. No puedo quejarme de este sitio o servicio y lo recomendaría a cualquiera. Genial.

We stopped here several years ago when looking for properties in the area and were blown away with the service and the food went back yesterday for a trip down memory lane and we were not disappointed this as far as we are concerned is one of the best fish and chip shops in the country Harry Ramsden eat your heart out

we have had fish and chips from baxters on a regular basis and they are consistently good and cooked to a very high standardthe batter on the fish is just perfect we look forward to our next visit

Since eating Baxters Fish and Chips nothing else even comes close. You MUST try these, they are traditional Fish and Chips just like they used to be!

Great fish and chips - best in Sutton Bridge. Service is fast and the shop seems very popular in the area. They will cook to order when you arrive so always freah.

We get our fish and chips here every Friday. Get there early because there will be a queue. Friendly staff and Scrummy food!

Called in for a quick bite to eat. Two members of staff were more interested in anything but the three customers in their shop. Had fish cake and chips and I think the fish cake must have been left over from the previous day, full of fat and very chewy... Chips were OK, but nothing to write home about... Customer service very poor, food bad. Would I go back? Sadly not.... Courtesy towards customers costs nothing...

Its a cheap and cheerful chippy, i wouldnt rave about it like some people on here, chips are a bit greasy and there always seems to be fat burning when i go in there, those things aside its a cheap snack but an average one

Love Baxters. Best fish and chips for miles, and they are open most of the day also, and they are always busy!

They've two shops, this one on the picture which is near the Riverside Bar and the bridge itself, and there is another one with a limited menu away from the bridge and just before you would get to Railway Stores which is the store on the T junction at the village end of Railway Lane North.Both are good shops but as 85% (at last count) of fish and chip shops, they cook in lard so even chips aren't vegetarian but sadly it's a countrywide thing. Very few cook in anything else and if they use rapeseed oil, we grow lots in this country. Lobby the bosses of these shops to use rapeseed oil and cook chips and veggie burgers away from fish, sausages.I will mention that these Baxters shops are old time shops and sell processed peas not mushy peas. Occasionally you get mushy grey peas at what is known as the top shop near the bridge but I don't know if it's change of staff or by mistake. Having been in the trade myself 25+ years ago but in a town so we sold everything but our peas would soak with steeping tablets all night then rinse, have a couple of colour tablets and we would leave the shop at half past midnight and the peas would simmer all night long until we went back or while living in the flat above, went down in the morning.

I'm now 50, in the days when I was a kid going on holiday to Great Yarmouth we'd always call in. The place is exactly as I remember it. Friendly staff, good quality and great tasting fish and chips. As good now as it was then. Great food and great value

this has to be the best chippy around. always tastes great and very cheap, never had a bad experience the staff are friendly and the food is delicious big portions and beautiful food.. especially when serving new potatoes chips

Baxter's fish and chip shop is known to be one of the best in the area. The food is never really greasy and you get good portions for your money. Be aware that on a summers evening u may have to queue as loads of people pick up chips on the way down to the river as there's a picnic area opposite the docks and a larger picnic area down near the peter scott lighthouse. I know of people who have deliberately turned off the a17 because they have heard about the chips and they re not locals. You can always have a bit of a laugh and joke with the ladies who serve u on there especially Leigh and Chris.

Got Fish and Chips here one night when i was in the area with work when everywhere else was closed. I grew up in a seaside town so i appreciate good chip shop Fish and Chips and the ones from here were really good. The portions were big and was a really good price. I would highly recommend.

Well, what can I say? I came here on my way through to Wisbech, and I wish it hadn't been such a fleeting visit. I dropped in for lunch, a nice piece of Cod, Chips and a Shandy. The food here is not likely to disappoint you, unless you have no tastebuds whatsoever! This is Fish and Chips as I remember it from childhood; hand cut chips from fresh potatoes; hand battered fish, and it's heaven. Fish and Chips has become such a sterile "frozen chips, fish out of a bag" experience, that it's so nice to find a shop like this in such a small place, but with food that blows me away. I hope it will do the same for you.

Fantastic traditional takeaway fish & chip shop. I would go as far to say they are the best fish'n'chips I found in Lincolnshire. Always cheery service in a very clean takeaway. A must visit when looking for takeaway food in the Sutton bridge area. Highly recommended

The greatest fish and chips I have ever had. I have frequented this chip shop for over 20 years and the standards have never dropped.

Nice happy young fryer if a little shy in the shop near the chemist, he cooked my chips to perfection. One complaint and it doesn't matter who is working, TINNED PROCESSED PEAS. Their shop near the bridge doesn't do tinned peas but proper ones. The one thing puts me off are the bullet peas.

the best tasting fish & chips in the country! they never taste as good from anywhere else. did think about testing the other chippy in the village but it didn't smell very nice from outside! to anyone visiting the area be sure to call in for tasty food and very friendly service!

I always get Fish & Chips from Baxters when I am in the UK to see family. The portions are just right, and the fish is fresh. There are always people buying their Fish & Chip in Baxters, another positive sign
