Battersea Pie Station in City of London, Westminster

I was really looking forward to coming here, but found the pies had little flavour, was expensive to add things to the dish such as veg or mash. My pie was not warm at all and was really disappointed, staff were not helpful and chairs and tables were not comtortable.

Stopped off here during a trip around Covent Garden with my wife looking for a good lunch spot without having to break the bank. Staff were very polite and friendly, and we got our pies - steak and ale, and butternut squash respectively - in almost no time at all. While both of these were delicious, our side order of mushy peas also went down a treat. But the best thing of all was that all-essential liquor sauce, which they offer by the jug. Lovely stuff!

It's worth a visit to Covent Garden just for one of these pies (and Floozie Cookie for dessert next door!). I indulged in a Steak and Stout pie with a friend. They're the perfect sharing size and positively savory. Crust provides a crispy, flakey shell around piping-hot fillings like fall-apart-on-the-fork beef and tender veggies. Everything bathes in buttery gravy that's so good you'll be scraping up the last bite. Takeout or dine-in, you can't go wrong. My only regret is not getting to try every single pie on their menu. I'll be a returning customer for sure during my next vacation to London!

I had the steak pie which was tasty but not much filling and the pie crust was rather thick. The sides were alright. Quite an affordable quick meal in a tourist area.

Searched for a good pie today and ran across this little gem in the lower market level. Seating was at a premium on Sunday, but we only needed to wait about 5 min to sit. There were 6-8 different pies to choose from, and service was fast once we ordered. Extremely tasty pies, as well as mashed potatoes. Highly recommended.

As they say, you cannot leave UK without having the traditional pies. So tried in this small cute place in beautiful CG market. We ordered steak and stout, chicken & mushroom, mince beef and onion – complemented with Latte. The gravy that came with it was flavourful. Decent.

First visit to the Pie Shop and had a traditional steak & stout pie with mash and liquor. We’d never had it before and it was delicious. Will definitely revisit next time we’re in London.

I used to work opposite on the Strand, and I was just settling into my new job when the virus hit. Before I knew that much about the virus, though, I had a nice meal here of a chicken pie and a couple sides. Very filling. I felt the green beans were over-cooked. Service was ok. Set up inside the cafe was a little strange, not the cleanest at the time. However, I'd revisit it for sure.

Delicious chicken and mushroom pie with plenty of chicken in it, a delicious gravy to go on and and a wonderful coleslaw. The roast potatoes were fantastic, with plenty of garlic flavour on them (and I love garlic, so bonus for me!) Definitely one to come back :)

A really superb little find. Thought as this was in Covent garden it would be pricey, but its not. Not much room to eat in, and pie and gravy was very tasty, even if it could be a little warmer. Would have liked more seating space, but a small shop so not sure what else they could do. Very good.

This was a planned stop in Covent Garden market. It's businesslike rather than pleasant but the pies were OK and good value. Neither the blaring rock music nor the bored servers did much to enhance the atmosphere. I had Chicken and Mushroom Pie and my son ate Mince Beef & Onion. Both were reasonably good but not more than that. They can do better - if they wish.

With so many choices in Covent Garden, this was my first visit to Battersea Pies Shop (lower level). The side order of roasted potatoes was quite good. The chicken & mushroom pie tasted a bit off. Nothing bad, but better options all around. No reason to go back.

Came here about 2 weeks ago with my friends and very enjoyed the stay! We were haunting for a pie and mash place but it’s very difficult to find one in central London, we were not disappointed when we came across Battersea Pie Station. It is probably one of the cheapest places to eat in Covent Garden and the quality of the food is fantastic. The service was super friendly and very quick, and what I mean by this is that our food arrived 3 seconds after we’ve ordered it. Will definitely visit again!

La estación de Battersea Pie (BPS) se encuentra en el área de la planta baja del mercado de Covent Garden en un bonito patio / cuadrilátero con asientos interiores y exteriores (aunque todo está cubierto por el mercado). fair price for this very popular part of central london, my partner had a meat pie and rated this 10/10 for quality however I had the veterinarian pastie and this was very poor so it reduced the assessment

Big portions and tasty pies, very quick service and good value for money - we paid just under £20 for pie and mash for two people. There was a vegetarian pie option but I don't think there was anything vegan.

Ordered Steak & Kidney pie with mash and gravy for two to eat in, which totalled £19. Service was polite and quick. The pie was really delicious. I guess the potato was powered but it still tasted good. The price is reasonable for the location. I'd certainly return in the future. The place has pictures of Battersea Power Station hung on the walls but I couldn't find one with a pig floating between the chimneys lol.

When in London fancied pie and mash but did not quite meet what I expected. Both pies we ordered where really good and can't fault at all however the mash was shocking... tasted more like Smash than mash. Would reccomend for the pies but I can't believe they manage to keep going with mash that bad.

Great alternative to the usual fast food chains. The restaurant serves tradiitonal British savoury pies and traditional British deserts. The place is conveniently located at the lower ground i Covent Garden, so if you are in the area and need a qucik bite, I highly recommend this place.

Discovered this really cute eatery while exploring the captivating Covent Garden. We decided to give it a try because British pies are like the ultimate comfort food. What I liked about this joint was it's no frills, no fuss menu. Sometimes it's just better when restaurants keep things plain and simple. They had regular pies and baby pies, plus sides. Sides included regular stuff like salads, mash, mushy peas, roasted potatoes and baked beans. I had the Windstone Pie, (steak & kidney) with a side of mash potatoes while my daughters had the Baby Chicken & Mushroom. Everything tasted awesome and very authentic. The mash was smooth, creamy, thick & 'starchy'; just how I like it The dark, flavorful gravy was 'on point', though a bit on the watery side. Made the pies taste even better. The only additional thing I would have wanted to see on the menu is a side of chips. I asked the waitress for a batch, but she said they only served 2 types of potatoes. A side of fries would have also paired very well with the pies, because nothing is as yummy as a chunky pile of thick chips with a generous drizzling of malted vinegar; eaten the quintessential British way! This is a great place for rich, hearty and delicious pies. I highly recommend it!

I won't lie, I have never liked any minced pie that wasn't my fathers but this place, oh my god it's so good! I ordered the minced beef and onion while my husband had the steak and ale. Both were so savory and succulent. I wish I had longer than a week in London as I would of gone there over and over.

There were a good selection of pies and we chose the Chicken & Mushroom with Mash. It was really tasty and the gravy on the mash yums. The pastry was flaky and melted in the mouth. The pie was still picking hot when served.

We managed to get a seat inside it was busy but nice to be able to enjoy the food. I had the small chicken pie and mash it was delicious. My partner has the steak and mash again very tasty. The gravy was very nice. A little expensive but worth every penny and it is in covent garden so overall a great experience. Would highly recommend a visit when in london.

A modern take on a traditional London cultural icon. On a cold miserable London day the combination of a mince beef and onion pie with creamy mash and a covering of liquor (parsley sauce) really hits the spot. It's all served pipping hot and the quality of the pastry is very high.

Very nice location as its on the basement floor of the Covent Garden Market! Food is delicious and the price is affordable, considering that you can either sit there or take away (and pay a bit less). I really suggest the beef and onions pie, very rich flavour and its perfectly combined with mash and gravy! Absolutely recommended :)

Vinimos por los buenos comentarios y no decepcionó. La tarta de carne y riñones espectacular. Probamos la vegetariana con queso de cabra y no sabemos bien que era lo otro pero muy recomendable.

Das kleine Lokal samt Außenbereich befindet sich im Untergeschoss der Covent Garden Markthallen. Kleine aber gute Auswahl an traditionellen Pie und Pasty Gerichten. Geschmacklich war alles bestens, auch das Personal war freundlich. Die Preise sind für einen Imbiss mit teilweise Selbstbedienung (selbst für Londoner Verhältnisse) jedoch sehr hoch, besonders da die Portionen doch eher überschaubar ausfallen. Alles in allem sicher empfehlenswert.

Had some pies with mash and a salad. The salad while simple was quite good. The pies were hot, seasoned well, and had a nice flaky crust.

Flavoursome meat & veg pasty however the pastry was hard which made it necessary to use the gravy. Disappointed they had runout of the cheese & onion which we ordered before they came to our table to advise they didn’t have any. Nice quiet location downstairs, friendly staff.

We thought this might be a tourist trap because of its location but we were pleasantly surprised, They have delicious food and the pies are to die for! We had the mince beef & onion & the veggie pie butternut & both were fantastic. The mash was delish! Reading other reviews I wasn't convinced until I tried and I have to admit that I do not understand where so many bad words about mash which is just fantastic. Fresh, seasoned and delicious. I just love this place. There was a line when we arrived, but it moved quickly. The line was longer when we left, a testament to the popularity of this restaurant. Everything here is fantastic, We'll definitely be back!

Visited the pie shop. The staff were friendly and efficient and the food was just excellent. That's not all though. Left a bag in the shop. Remembered next day (I live in Oxfordshire). Contacted them. They had kept it, so they parcelled it up and sent me the parcel free of charge. FREE of charge, a carrier bag worth of stuff. Now that is customer service. THAT is going the extra mile. That's well above and beyond. Decent people! Thanks to Damien the manager and his wonderful staff. We will be back, and so will our friends and we will spend some money. Thank you Battersea Pie Station - first class service, first class people. We will always remember your kindness and always visit the pie shop when in Covent Garden..

Me and my girlfriend stopped here for a bite to eat on the way to a London show. We weren’t disappointed. Very fair price for what you get. I had a steak and ale pie and a glass of red wine and my girlfriend had a cheese an onion pasty (I think!). Both came with gravy, which was a lovely addition. Decent gravy is always a treat and quite hard to come by. Very quick service, order at the counter and they’ll bring it to your table. Will definitely visit again.

Este pequeño local sirve tartas inglesas con acompañamiento y salsa. El precio es muy correcto ya que la ración es abundante y el plato completo te sale por unos 9pounds. Tienen una gran jarra de agua para que te sirvas. Probamos la de ternera y cerveza y la de calabaza y queso de cabra y las dos estaban muy ricas. Un lugar para repetir si andas por covent garden

I would have give this a minus 3. Not real pie and mash not liquor just tepid gravy and ridiculously overpriced at £20 for two with no drinks. Give this a miss.

Went back after a previous visit in August 2018. Will never go back again. It is no longer a proper pie and mash shop, and it is so overpriced. Came to over £19 for two for a pie a spoonful of mash (which was not real mash) and gravy not even liquor and nothing to drink with it. On the previous visit it was liquor now just tepid brown gravy. How they can call themselves a pie shop is a beyond us.

Il locale è piccolo e molto semplice con pochi coperti ma le pie sono davvero ottime e ben farcite inoltre ci sono vari gusti tra cui poter scegliere per provare a soddisfare tutti. Mi esposa y yo fuimos a comer tarta durante nuestro viaje al Reino Unido. Desafortunadamente Battersea, en Covent Garden, no hizo el corte para el pastel superior. Lo encontramos en una feria callejera en Edimburgo, Escocia. El juego de tarta de Londres no estuvo a la altura de nuestras expectativas.

Located in a fantastic food market, great to sample all types of food. The pies and mash were great, nice size and flavor. The price is a on the expensive side but the drinks are definitely expensive (~£6). The staff was really nice, we really had a nice experience.

We went to Battersea Pie with a couple of friends who were familiar with the place, and they didn’t steer us wrong. I had the mince pie with rocket on the side, and it was tasty and filling without being too much food. It’s a good place to go for an updated version of that British staple.

We popped in for a quick afternoon snack because it wasn't crowded (unexpectedly) and looked clean and cosy. Lots of pies, we stayed on the traditional side and ordered steak and kidney and steak and stout pies along with a couple of ales. All came with gravy and mash. Very tasty although could benefit from a little more seasoning.

This was my first time trying any kind of a meat pie. I went for the traditional steak and kidney, and it didn’t disappoint. Awesome food and some of the best prices in the area.

I liked the steak and kidney pie, my wife didn’t like her steak and ale one so much, mash nice and buttery but everything could have done with more seasoning. £6 for a small bottle of cider was a bit much as well.

I love a pie and this adorable pie shop in Covent Garden is filled with them. I enjoyed mine with mash and gravy (served in its own tiny jug - how sweet). I went during an afternoon on a weekday, so wasn't long to wait and I could sit down. However, there aren't many tables and I imagine it fills up quickly. Being a traditionalist, I opted for steak and ale, but there are other versions including veggie. Not expensive. I'll definitely go back.

I was a little reluctant to eat here as there was no halal offering and I would have to resort to a fish or veggie option. I found the butternut squash and goats cheese pie with mash and gravy. Let’s just day I did not miss out, it tasted so good and I didn’t even notice it was vegetarian. I would definitely eat here again. Premises were nice and clean and the added AC was a nice bonus on a very hot day. Try it you won’t be disappointed

The place might be small but the food is delicious. My wife and I tried it two different pies and both were delicious. The price was excellent as well. If you are in Covent Garden and hungry for an authentic British steak pie, Battersea Pie Station is your place.

I was craving pie and mash for quite some time now. A colleague of mine recommend me this place, and I have to say I was not disappointed, to say the least. Staff was very friendly and the pie absolutely delicious. I would definitely go there again!

Three members of staff were all hidden from view behind the counter as they were all sat on the floor staring at their mobile phones. Everyone needs to sit down from time to time. I know it is exhausting being on your feet all day working in a restaurant but this behaviour gives a really BAD impression to the customer. If you need a seat ask for one from the owner/manager. It took a few moments for any of the staff to notice there was anyone waiting to be served. The service was polite enough, and the food good enough and reasonable enough for me to return, but be warned! #badservicebritain

it was a cold day but the place was freezing. pie and mash with a source £15, it was a clean place, staff not unfriendly but not friendly either pie was nice but have had way better and only paid £3.50

Battersea Pie Station one might expect to find in Falcon Road SW11 or even in Circus West Village in the Power Station complex. Yet it’s actually in the basement of Covent Garden market in what resembles a sort of primitive ur-type of the food mall or even Boxpark. The serving station itself is in a small alcove with a few seats both at tables and at bar height inside with additional places outside. The pies come in two sizes: regular (without sides) or mini with a dab of mash (effectively a child’s portion or adult sampler). I was pleased to see steak and kidney on the menu as I am a great fan of offal and feel it is much neglected. The pie indeed contained some choice morsels of kidney as well as beef. The mash was silky smooth. It came with a boat full of enough gravy to swamp both. With a glass of wine some change (just) from £16.

On the lower level of the Covent Garden Market, I had a grate unexpected surprise. After trying pies in some other places (I had the dream of having a good Shepherd’s pie in London), by chance I saw this little place in a corner of the food area. I came back there several times. The pies were all delicious. The pumpkin with goat cheese was magnificent. I highly recommend as a great place to eat, at a good price, in Covent Garden market. You can eat in or out the shop. Or, if your hotel is nearby, take it home with you.

Spiego il titolo. A Londra non è facile trovare vero cibo inglese in quanto c'è l'apoteosi di tutti i cibi del mondo. Questo posto è veramente una sorpresa. Una volta fatti i conti con il fatto che ormai l'italiano va all'estero per provare il cibo estero e non alla ricerca del ristorante italiano, questo posto è da provare. Vere Pie Inglesi da gustare in tutto il loro sapore e la loro particolarità. Prezzi nella norma per Londra ma un pasto lo fai volentieri. Servizio al tavolo dopo l'ordinazione alla cassa. Pochi posti ma ben gestiti. Volete provare il vero cibo inglese? eccolo. provato!

Durante nuestro paseo por Covent Garden fuimos a comer a este restaurante donde venden pasteles de carne y otros platos diferentes. Nosotros pedimos 3 pies, con bebidas y de postre un brownie. Pagamos por la comida 40£.

Restaurante acogedor en el interior de Covent Gardem. Empanadas y pasteles ricos. La guarnición de patatas... deliciosa!! El precio normal, aunque la guarnición y la bebida se suben bastante.

El pastel de carne estaba bien. Precio excesivo para solo el pastel de carne. Y las camareras muy secas y poco simpaticas

I love meat pies and in particular steak and kidney. I looked forward to eating at this establishment but it was underwhelming. The pie I got had a great crust but lthe filling was a little disappointing. It was good but not great.
