Went today with my Mum to have breakfast/lunch before we did our shopping. We arrived just after 11am. Mum wanted a breakfast, I fancied one of the 'light bites' which are mainly panini's (which I like) I went to the counter to ask if the 'light bites' were being served at this time. Yes indeed they were, they are served all day. Excellent. So I ordered the tuna, cheese and spring onion panini but the lady said they weren't serving paninis as they had no panini rolls. No problem, so I asked if I could order from the 'lunch menu'. The lady then suddenly announced that no food would be served for 30 minutes as the chef had just left the kitchen to have his lunch! Really? I half thought she was joking but she then kind of ran off into the back. Went to get Mum who'd found us a nice table to tell her lunch was off as the chef was having his 😀 Did our shopping, was interesting to find packs of panini rolls in the bread section 🙄.

Just had a breakfast a d the egg looks like it as cooked on the floor. The bacon was too tuff to cut and the toast was cold with the butter just out of the fridge.

Never eaten in a Tesco before, but on a dead Sunday morning in Batley, it was the only option. I was pleasantly surprised. I added an extra fried egg to the smaller breakfast, and both eggs came up done just right (ie., no slime, no hard bits). (That's a bit of an acid test, which most breakfasts fail, including some I cook myself!) Came with 2 rashers, hash browns, baked beans, a very nice mushroom, a sausage, and two pieces of (unfashionable, but hoorah!) fried bread. Apart from the sausage being a bit spamlike, the rest of the produce was good quality, as you'd hope from a giant food retailer with an army of choosy buyers. On top of this, the coffee was good as well, so I had two, and in big cups. Now, none of this would matter if you had bad staff and chefs (which is where the best intentions can fall down); but here the opposite was the case. In addition to the breakfast being well cooked, the till and waiting staff were on the ball. Luke, the manager, on the till, was efficient and friendly; while the very young lady bringing the food was alert to needs of each table. Good work.

We love the cafe here. Nice breakfasts average service although those who do serve us are friendly it’s just sometimes short staffed.

Ordered 2 portions of fries. Was busy but came with swift service, until I noticed I got the bottom end of the fries chain....shoggy,wet and some burnt. Avoid at all costs.

I visited today and ordered toast and marmalade and a pot of tea. I waited 15 minutes for the toast despite only one other table having an order pending. When the burnt toast arrived with jam not marmalade I was not pleased but didn't have much time so ate what wasn't burnt

I visited today and ordered tea and toast and marmalade. I waited 15 minutes despite only two more tables with orders pending. My burnt toast arrived with jam not marmalade so as I was in a rush I ate what I could of the toast. Tea arrived as I was about to ask for a refund for it as it came 15 minutes after the toast!. I had a similar experience last week but decided to give them a second chance. Sadly it was just as bad as last week.

Rather than going home and making a breakfast from fresh, I thought I would treat my daughter with a breakfast from Tesco Extra Cafe, Batley. She ordered her 2 sausage, hash brown mushroom, fried egg & a pot of tea. I then ordered mine, starting with the fried bread. I stopped the server immediately, and asked him why he picked up the two frid breads with his bare hands. This was his excuse, 'I've just started here recently, and they don't provide us with gloves.' Now a billion pound enterprise like Tesco skimping on the small matters, I can believe. As it isn't the first time that we have asked the person slicing cold meats to put on gloves, and many times (especially the older staff) you were given a terrible look. He offered to change the bread, and told me to take a seat whilst we waited for the eggs and he would bring it over to the table. No way Hoosay, after the fried bread, I decided that I wanted to see what else he was doing as he didn't have any gloves to speak of. Anyway, the breakfast was typical run-of-the-mill, with nothing to surprise our palettes. The beans had obviously been sat in the bain marie for a long times, as they were next thing to going into a soup. The fried bread was as hard as hell, and on trying to cut a piece, it sped off the plate and onto the floor. The sausages were not of any great quality, I would say the meat content was around 30 to 50%. And the hask browns were extremely dried out, and the fried eggs overdone. Bacon was the only thing which was done properly. The cappucino was cool, and tasted like cheap coffe was used to make it. It was the push button machine he used. The tea was also not of any great standard, very watery even after squeezing the bag against the wall of the teapot. For the two of us it cost £9.19, which I must admit was far too much for the poor quality of the ingredients used.
